My husband and I attended the movie on 6/7/24 early showing. We were not given the senior discount! When we were in the theater, we were put off by the waiter. There were only 7 other people in the whole theater! When we finally got to order, she was stand-off ish. We got our popcorn and soda and started enjoying the movie. When it came time to get service to come back, they took over 30 minutes to come to see what we needed! My real shock was when I got the bill. They automatically add 18% gratuity to the bill plus they tax the amount! They raised prices like crazy! The popcorn price has raised, but the soda was raised to $6.00!!! That's ridiculous for a fountain soda!! I used to enjoy taking my grandkids to the movie, but now I don't know if I will ever go back to Flix!!! read more

They raised their prices after the pandemic, along with everyone else, when there were supply chain issues. Even after those resolved, they kept their prices high and then just recently in the last few months, they shrank the sizes of all of their portions by about a third. Yesterday I ate a handful of fries for $11 and the hummus plate had half the amount of pita and about 10 sticks of vegetables. My little cup of queso that used to be 6 ounces was now 2 ounces. The servers have been trained to say that it's because the new dishes "look smaller" but are the same amount, which is not true. The staff are great, though. read more

Great place to see a movie and eat. I would suggest for a date! I loved the local beer- I told the amazing Aaron K. to surprise me and he brought me the one of the lighter ones. Yum. The other staff was very polite and the theatre was impeccablely clean. The chicken quesadilla was great. It was a little tricky to find. I have been to the mall but my GPS was confused. I suggest just parking at the mall and remembering where you parked. I went with a group- I would suggest for an activity or corporate events as well. read more

My wife and I decided to try Flix-Brewhouse on our weekly date night. We had a really great time, and will definitely go again. It's was fairly priced, the food was much better than I expected, and it was very fun. We saw a 4:00pm show on Saturday. We were seated at about 3:35 and ordered our food at about 3:55. The food came out quickly (about 10 minutes). Ordering more food during the movie is convenient and surprisingly didn't cause much of a distraction. Plan on arriving at least 30 minutes before your showtime. I recommend that you buy your tickets in advance. The bar area outside of the theater was very comfortable and had plenty of wait staff / bartenders. There is a large selection of local and other micro-brews. Don't be afraid to ask for a sample or two - the bartenders are happy to provide them (for FREE). When your row is ready for seating, they put it up on the monitors. Place your order as soon as you can when you are seated, the wait staff seem to get busier closer to the movie's start time. We ordered the humus - it was actually awesome, and the fajita tacos (okay) and a veggie burger (actually quite good). The french fries that came with the burger were really good - I was pleasantly surprised. You don't get stuck watching endless movie trailers before the movie starts... The theater was playing a variety of Liam Niesen themed shorts (Sat Night Live skits, Family Guy, etc). It was worth coming early. I found the staff to be friendly and competent. You push a button in front of your seat that notifies them when you need something. The table in front of you retracts in and out which is convenient, and very comfortable. The menu is printed with white letters on black (which helps to read in the darker light). Pros / "The Good" - Food was a pleasant surprise - many great choices - The beer selection is great. Talk to the bartenders, they really knew their stuff. - Comfortable seats, the noise level was fine during the movie - Fun atmosphere, especially in a group situation - Fair price. We saw a matinee movie, ate an appetizer two beers, entrees and shared a dessert for $52 (food) and $15 (matinee tickets x 2). Cons / "The Bad" - It can get crowded at night, and then the service might suffer during busy times - Most of the menu is "bar food", even if it is cooked well and tastes yummy Tips / Lessons learned: - I recommend going to a late-afternoon show if you are flexible. It was much less crowded than the evening shows. - Don't sit in a row that has its back to the main aisle. You will be sitting in a (comfortable) office chair, but it has wheels and looked annoying. - The bathroom facilities are way too small for the theater. Pre-purchased seats for Secret Life if Pets 2. We arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of the movie. The wait staff was quick with gathering our order and did a great job of getting us settled before the movie began. Food came out quickly and was perfect temperature. Food is good considering it is reheated to be served quickly. Always a great experience. Fun for the kids and allows to get dinner and a movie all at the same time. We caught a movie with our grown son at 11:30 on a Sunday. We like to arrive for the preshow. They show great shorts before the movie starts. We ordered food and settled back. We got a couple beers to drink for the boys and I had a soda. Their craft beers are great and they have a good variety. My husband had two of the IPA varieties and my son had a stout. All were good. We ordered mozzarella sticks. They were basic, and out of the box. Nothing special or original. I had the carne asada street tacos. They came wrapped in foil and included chips and guacamole. Well, a couple teaspoons of guacamole. They were ok, but it was strange that the meat was diced up rather than in strips. It got lost in the other toppings. My son ordered the Cuban sandwich. He asked for no pickles, but they were included. The movie was about to start, so he picked them off rather than sending it back. The food was warm, but not hot. We often see the servers walking with open plates in the halls. I wish they covered the food to keep it warmer. During the movie, we ordered two popcorns and another soda. They came quickly. Service was very good. The food is a little pricey for the quality. It was $66 for the three of us. The beer and standard concessions are the best bargains. I would give the service four stars. It was prompt and friendly. They food was ok. If it were just a restaurant I don't think I'd be in a hurry to go back. When it comes to movies, we love Flix. We get our tickets online, pick our seats, and show up in enough time to order drinks and get settled. We always get great seats, never have to wait in line, and it's probably the type of movies we watch, but there are not as many children screaming in the crowd. Seats are comfy, tables roll out for ease, and it's very easy to navigate around the theatre if you have to get out of your seat because there's a little walking space behind all the seats for the wait staff to walk around safely. The food and staff could be better. The wait to get waters alone is usually 20 minutes, though they'll bring what you pay for relatively quick. The wait staff never knows which seats they've talked to. There aren't many options at all for those with food allergies, despite the gluten-free pizza crust that is a whopping $4 added charge. This much is to be expected for bar-food at a movie theatre, but this is a relatively easy fix that most restaurants seem to handle just fine. Overall, it's a great place to catch a flick and have some pretty good adult beverages. Always recommended for a movie date night or with friends. read more

You know you all do it at home so why not do it in public. Hardly any of us just sit down in the dining room and just eat our dinner, we're most likely bringing our food into the family room and putting on a movie for the night with a few beers. Merle Hay was pretty much on their way out but I feel with the help of Flix they're still holding on and with this addition a few years back, this has been such a great place for dinner and a movie. I love the fact that I don't have to get up to get something from the concession anymore, I can just easily write something down and press a button and the server will add it to your tab. It's such a great experience so you don't have to miss any part of the movie. Now if they could only figure out how to set up a restroom situation without leaving your seat (Just kidding... maybe. I have seen a couple movies at Flix, and I have to say that I really enjoy coming here. Of course I love movies, so I always enjoy going to the theater. But Flix having beers and real food along with all the traditional cinema snacks and treats is so awesome. I actually have never eaten any of the meals here, but the menu is expansive. I want to try the flatbread pizza. I have had popcorn here which is very classic, and I have tried a few different beers. I like that you find your seat in the theater and are served which eliminates the need to leave your seat and miss any of the movie. We have discovered that the service isn't always perfect, but it is still nice to be able to watch the whole movie without leaving. Well this was the first time me & my friend went. We heard mixed reviews. The movie was great. Saw the Conjuring 2 last night at 8pm. We had never been there. No one told us to press a button to order or even where are menus were. We sat & sat. The movie hadn't started so my friend went to ask why no one had checked on us. They then informed us to press the button. So he did. Took about 2 minutes & they took our order. About 15 minutes later a Sprite was delivered. But not our pitcher of beer. My friend pressed the button & asked, we were told it comes from the bar so it takes longer. About 15 minutes later our beer came & it was very good. Still no pizza. 20 minutes later, still no pizza. My friend pressed the button. 5 minutes later a guy says he'll go check on it, he never comes back. 30 minutes later we are both starving & cranky. The family next to us had basically been having a good time talking the whole time (during the movie) while the people on the other side of us were texting majority of the movie. We start grumbling to each other about the pizza & the family next to us starts loudly complaining. I told them to be quiet & one got rude to me & I told them to be quiet again. They pressed their button & complained. Nothing happened, or we would have definitely been angry & asked for a full refund. We pressed the button again & 5 minutes later someone comes out saying there was a mix up with our ticket & they're working on it & it will be free. 20 minutes later the pizza arrives. It was very good, but for that size & price. I'm glad it was free. We barely got the pizza ate before the movie was over but at least we finally got it. In the future. Patrons should be asked if they are new & informed where the menus are & to press the button when ready to order. Also people working should kindly ask customers to stay off their phones & be quiet. At quiet moments in the movie I could barely hear the movie at all. For the price of tickets, drinks, and food (had that not been comped) it was not worth the wait or the trouble. Is it all hype or is it the real deal? It's the real deal! The completion of the world's first and only movie theater with a functioning microbrewery! Now, if you don't know what Flix Brewhouse is all about, let me give you a quick rundown of how things work. You can opt to not watch any movie and just sit at the bar or table and just drink and eat like a regular restaurant. If you want the whole movie experience, purchase your ticket at the front and head on in to the theater (It would be best to show up at least 20 minutes before your movie starts). When you purchase your ticket at the front, you also choose which seat you want in the theater. This was kinda difficult because you are just shown a seating chart with available seats and you aren't really sure what the view from the seat looks like, fortunately we got awesome seats (lucky). The seats are very comfortable and spacious, there is a slide-out table/counter in front of you for your food and drinks. (The quality of the seats and table is very good, you need to see pictures/go there yourself to see). There is a menu and beer list on each table. About 20 minutes prior to the start of the movie, servers enter the theater and introduce themselves and go seat to seat to take your order. They will explain how everything works if it's your first time or you're unsure. They take your order and bring your food out when it's done, simple. About 45 minutes before the end of the movie, they will bring out your check and place it on your table. They come by in a few minutes to pick up your checks to process them. A few minutes later they return with your credit card/change and that's it! Each seat has a call button that if you press, the servers will come into the theater and see what you need whether if it's more food or drinks. If you call them during the movie, they have a notepad at each table where you write down your order or what you need and they will take care of it for you. Overall, the whole process went very smooth and I didn't encounter any issues, it was fun watching a movie and eating brunch at the same time. We had the breakfast pizza and biscuits and gravy because it was weekend brunch, even though we could have ordered off the full menu, we wanted to try the brunch items. The pizza was very good, it says enough for 2, eh, I guess if you were just having a snack, but this was my lunch so one was just right for me. The biscuits and gravy could have been much better, it comes with eggs which were good, the sausage gravy (Extra 50 cents) was very good, the biscuits...very dry... Overall, I am excited to return and try their full menu items and come for dinner so I can try out their beers as well! read more

They have multiple food options if you are looking for just a snack, all the way through a full meal. I don't personally drink much alcohol but I have heard great things about their drink selection. I went to see Trainwreck at this location. It was me and my friends and one other person in the theater. My husband and I asked for a sample of a pear drink, it came several minutes later and wasn't the greatest so we ordered a margarita. That was the worst margarita I've ever had in my entire life, and I could not finish it. We also ordered a couple apps; the mozzarella sticks came out cold and they were expensive. Really nice theater and staff. It's a really awesome you can watch a movie and have a quality beer. Like most brewery's they have their standards and the seasonal beers. Flix does a great job with the beer on both notes. On this visit I have one of the seasonal drafts, a dark winter beer. I forgot the name, but worth dropping in even if you not going to watch a movie to try. It was absolutely wonderful. The theaters are kept really clean without having a sticky floor and very comfortable chairs. Plus you can select a movie and pay for your seat on line. I love the back row and can see what seats are available before we decided to go. I've watched many movies here and I always have the same complaint. Cold food. They do a great job of changing the menu out and offer many options to the refined palate of all movie goers. But on all of my visits the food almost always arrives lukewarm to cold. I've tried ordering at the beginning of the movie, after it has started, and in the middle all with the same result. Appetizers, meal or snack all on the chilly side. Will I stop coming? Went to Flix Brewhouse Des Moines for some prechristmas celebrating and the service, the food, movie quality...all amazing. They ask you arrive your movie 30 minutes early and the preshow they had for our movie was the coolest thing ever. We went to see the latest installment of The Hobbit, so the preshow was all this show clips from Robot Chicken, The Simpson, etc etc relating to the movie. I just thought it was super clever and entertaining. I had a Rosemary chicken and potato pizza, which was good and the husband had a pulled pork sandwich, also pretty darn tasty. As for brew I tried the Luna Rosa, one of their own brews and its basically a party of flavor in your mouth. If you get a chance to go, try one of their beers, you won't regret it! read more

We have visited Flix several times now and I have yet to be disappointed! The theaters are clean, the seats comfortable and, for the most part, the food and drinks are great. Their house IPA is pretty good, as is the Satellite Red Ale. After trying a few different things from the food menu I stumbled across the mediterranean pizza and now it's the ONLY thing I order. It's very good and definitely filling. I always get a takeout box and eat the rest for lunch the next day. Do NOT try the seasonal pine IPA. I thought it would taste like the pine IPA from my favorite brewery, but it bore no resemblance. It tasted like they soaked one of those pine car air fresheners in a bit of IPA for several days and called it a day. It was possibly one of the worst beers I've ever had, but I'll call it a fluke, as the beer is usually good! Service is always okay, not that you talk to your server a whole lot, as most of the communications is done in writing, button pushing and hand gestures. It can be a little bit slow, but since we're usually there for a couple hours it doesn't seem like a big deal. We've only had one bad experience, but it was quickly resolved by the front desk. After buying our tickets we headed to our seats only to find they were already occupied. We showed our tickets to the couple (younger couple with a few children) to see if it was a mistake, and the man got VERY upset. He said he was an employee and he had free tickets and he could sit wherever he damn well pleased. Not wanting to punch an a$$hole in front of his children, we just went out and traded our seats for new ones. The gentleman at the desk was very nice and apologetic. Maybe the guy was an a$$ at work too. In summary, good food and beer at a decent price. It's definitely better than $8 popcorn at other theaters, and I'd go just for the comfortable seating. read more

Upon ordering food on Friday, they ask us to give them our debit card in advance...So we did for 100 and the next day I was charged 111 for the bill plus tip then they prior auth the original 100...Now I paid my bill with tip of 111 and the original is already pending and not able for me to have access to my money.. so I spoke to a mgr and they are telling me that I have to wait until Monday for resolution bc their district mgr has to deal with it...telling me it should charge back but if not I can dispute with my back that would take weeks...After a majorly frustrating mistake on Flix part they tell me that I need to fix with my bank or at the very least wait 2 more days to get $100 back that has already been removed from my acct...then instead of taking responsibility they blame their processing center...so illegal that they are holding my money when my bill was already paid...do not buy food there!! read more

The staff was friendly but the service was okay, it could've been better. We did not see a movie but we ordered, a mediterranean pizza, hummus appetizer with pita bread and vegetables, a cheeseburger off the kids menu, 1 House salad no chicken with balsamic vinegar and a southwest chicken salad minus the chicken. We ordered three pints of beer from their varied list of microBrewed beers - the beers were very good. This would've been a perfect lunch except the child's cheeseburger order was missing so we had to wait for that and the house salad that came out was drenched in balsamic vinegar and was too tart to eat. The price for three adults and one child came to $76. I still recommend this place because the food was very tasty and had some quality to it - just be aware they may not get your order correct. read more

I'm a big fan of Flix. Their food won't knock your socks off but I've been here dozens of times and never had anything I didn't like. The BBQ chicken pizza is my go-to. Their french fries are also some of the best in town. Good beer selection and they'll let you sample beers at the bar in the lobby before your movie. A lot of people have mentioned this place being pricey, but it is wayyy cheaper than most other movie theatres in my opinion. A 32 oz soda (with free refills) is $3.75. Where else could you get that?? My favorite thing Flix does is show older, classic movies, usually for around $5! Sometimes they'll have a theme (think drinking a White Russian while watching Big Lebowski or having a Royale with cheese at Pulp Fiction). My only gripe with Flix is the service is often a little inconsistent. Several times I've been there, we've gotten our food and 15 minutes later we got our drinks. read more

This theater is new, fun, comfortable, clean, has a full menu and bar! you can purchase your tickets online before the show to guarantee the seat you want and availability. I would definitely do this on a stereotypically busy night Friday, Saturday ect. I have been to the theater twice with two different friends. Once on a Sunday evening and once for a Monday matinee. It was great because we got right into the theater and got to choose great seats. I have been unimpressed with the customer service from the hostess booking our seats. She just seemed to not like her job and be slightly annoyed with us and was making small talk with coworkers. She was also complaining about how slow it was. Im giving flix a 3* just because it seems like they need to do little extra training for host staff. The serving and bar staff is great. I have a few friends who work at flix and they seem to really love there job. This movie brewery has great beer and all I've had was the chicken strips and French fries which were good but it didn't come with the gravy on the side like the menu stated it would. I was fine with just dipping my fries in the ketchup it came with. Just an FYI, I did have to ask for salt and pepper and I imagine because of the lack of space around the tray tables. The basket was good but nothing to right home about. My friend got the fish burrito and stated it was dry so she wouldn't get that again. Another reason this place is getting a 3* is for food. I will continue to try new things here since I wasn't so impressed with my first go at the food and I'll update my review the next time I eat here. I got a pitcher of beer and shared it with my friend it was very tasty. I believe we got the Luna rosa wit. The time before that I had the red ale and Scottish ale both very good! The seats were very comfortable and the tray tables came out for comfortable eating but there is a bit of absence of light at the table so be careful while you eat. My friend made a comment about how there wasn't any coaster or bar napkins for our drinks so there was moisture all over the table. This place is sweet. It's like a classier, upgraded version of Billy Joe's Pitcher Show (long time locals should know where I'm talking about) the ticketing system is self serve and intuitive, you can pick where you want to sit. The actual seating process seems a bit unorganized as they use an intercom system to tell you which movie and which rows are seating, but we were seated promptly nonetheless. I had the meat lovers pizza and it was pretty darn good, a solid 8/10, better than anything I've had at papa johns for sure. They have a huge selection of beer, I didn't try any though. Service was prompt and friendly. The button system worked great. Zero complaints. The seats are leather and roomy and the armrests go up so you can cuddle with your significant other. The sound system is top notch 10/10. The screen has great resolution and clarity. Overall, I give Flix an enthusiastic 5 stars (which I hardly ever give) we will be back. read more

We rented a theater for a birthday matinee movie event and it was a great success. Very good staff, very good food, and a very good projection/sound system. We were allowed to use a provided microphone for the event which helped with the flow of activities. Our guests were of ages ranging from 27 to 91. Everyone raved about the event and how much fun they had. The theater accommodated people with mobility issues very well.
