After going through an intensive online application and further communication with one of the people there, I agreed to come visit and was asked to bring my friend as he lives on my property and will be an influence in a new dog's life here. The nice lady I was talking with explained that although she will not be there on the Saturday I was to visit but assured me that the shelter manager would be happy to talk with me. It is over an hour away so I wanted to make the most of my visit. I also brought my two much older dogs with me in case there was an opportunity to let them meet each other. When we arrived we were met by two volunteers both pleasant young ladies and an occasional third young man. We met the puppy and even took her for a walk down the road. The place was empty of other visitors and the parking lot was empty. important. I get it that they care about their dogs and want to make sure that they find nice homes. but.. Apparently the shelter manager was too busy to speak with me even though she was the only one who could say anything that wasn't a part of their 'script' and it was she that I came to talk to and whom I had made the appointment to meet. They would not allow my dogs to meet the puppy and insisted that the next step 'had' to be an in home visit. Again... just repeating their script as they had no authority to do anything other than repeat the script. So we left with assurances that they would be in contact with me to arrange said visit. That was over 3 weeks ago and still not a word from any of them, not a call or even an email. I am an older gentleman who owns my own home with 3 acres of land alongside of a river with an additional 35 acres of land next to me for walks and I have owned dogs my entire life. I have no idea what their issue is but this is a pretty crappy way of dealing with someone who wants to provide a home for a dog from a shelter.

Before Covid Saturdays were open for visiting a number of cats being fostered in various homes that were brought in for potential adoption. Those these two had never met, they were adopted together, and for almost 16 years now have been bonded like littermates. Aside from Max needing meds for arthritis, and Pi needing twice a day meds for hyperthyroidism, both are are happy and thriving. My adoption experience was excellent. I have two young Siamese cats that have not had the option to be very social (they are scared of people other than me and my husband). Deanna took the time to come over twice to meet and interact with them before taking care of them while we were gone. These extra visits, at no charge, ensured that she and our boys were comfortable with each other enabling Deanna to care for them while we were gone. She did not want to accept the job without ensuring that our pets would be comfortable, happy and safe! While gone we received daily pictures and updates as to how the boys were doing. This helped us to not miss our "kids" so much. Deanna came daily and checked the house to make sure the boys were not getting into things that they shouldn't and that nothing was wrong in the house. It was a huge relief to have someone taking care of them and keeping an eye on the place. She also took the garbage out on garbage day and vacuumed up the litter around the boys' boxes! Deanna provides such an outstanding service; you can tell that she truly loves pets and her job. The value for having Deanna come to your home to care for your pets in their own environment is invaluable. Her fees are much better than boarding fees in the Oly/Lacey area and as I said your pet gets to stay in its own home! What could be better than that?!?! The only down side is that I think my boys miss her more than they missed me! :-) Honestly, if I could give her more than 5 stars I would.

She did an awesome job caring for them, and when I came home a day earlier than anticipated, their cage and the surrounding area were clean, and they had plenty of hay, pellets, and water even though she had not come by yet that day. Her rates are very reasonable, too! I highly recommend her no matter what kind of pet you need taken care of while you're away from home.

Was even understanding for when our trip was extended a couple of days due to car troubles on the way back. What keeps me from adding that last star (or rather, .5 of a star) is getting a call at an odd hour about an alleged flea on my cat's rear. This was news to me, as we have not encountered the little parasites in our house since 2014 when a neighbor of ours introduced fleas to our house. Our cat is strictly an indoor cat, never goes outside, and I have dealt with fleas on cats a handful of times in my life, and have never had an incident of a single flea found only on the pet. The bugs have always managed to bother me as well. I have not been bothered by fleas since the aforementioned 2014 incident that we treated, and eradicated. So getting a call to say a flea was found, but no evidence was offered at the time, or at eventual pickup, just left a slightly sour taste in my mouth for what was otherwise exemplary cat boarding. I would still recommend her services, would even use them again if I found myself having to take the family out of town again, but if I am to be called and told my cat had a flea (not even fleas, I was told one was found on his hindquarters) I would rather expect to see some sort of evidence, photographic documentation preferably.

I was worried about my cat bc she was really scared when I first dropped her off. To see a video of her purring and meowing outside of her condo was so comforting to watch while away. We also got back from our trip a day early and asked to pick our cat up after hours and Charlotte made it possible. She even refunded us for the last night without us asking. Such a sweetheart.

We recently had a terrible experience with the Kitty Klinic in Lacey…read more When my 11 year old cat was coughing about 7 weeks ago, I took him in to be checked and due to negligence and/or incompetence and/or errors, he was seriously misdiagnosed with asthma and was given prednisolone which most likely worsened his underlying condition. When I called them after 3 weeks because his cough wasn't improving, they said it could just take some time and recommended that I increase the prednisolone. We took him to another vet and by then he was already in critical condition with full blown congestive heart failure. We had to choose within a week between subjecting him to ongoing ER visits and daily multiple medications or euthanasia. We knew he would not do well in the ER, so we made the agonizing decision to euthanize him. If I had known then what I have since learned, I would have realized that the diagnosis was incorrect. How can a vet see a significant weight loss and an enlarged heart on an x-ray and make the diagnosis of Asthma?? A cough, weight loss and an enlarged heart are all common symptoms of CHF. They did not suggest an echocardiogram or any other tests or follow up care. We will never know what the outcome would have been if the correct diagnosis had been made initially, but it really couldn't have been worse. Because I couldn't be in the room with him, they couldn't ask me questions about his behavior, eating habits, or anything else that could have assisted with a diagnosis. Cats hide pain very well. How could they possibly get all the information they needed from the cat? In retrospect it seems unconscionable to me that they will not allow any communication with the owner while they are examining our pets. The only communication you can have with the vet is when she calls you. I have to assume that they are hiding something and do not want us to see what is going on behind their closed door. If you need care for your cats, take them somewhere else.

We really did notice a difference in how our cat acted when we got back (vs. other times we've left him for a long weekend). He was happy and didn't seem as standoffish for us having been gone. To me that means Matt and City Pet Care were indeed doing a great job when they'd stop in to check on the cat and our house. City Pet Care does pet sitting and dog walking -- we've never used them for dog walking, but I'd expect they'd be great for that as well...

We love our vet, but our cats were so much happier staying home and having Matt come in to feed and play with them. He was completely dependable and scheduling with him was a breeze. He even texted a few times (including pictures!) to assure us things were fine. Most importantly, when we got home, our cats were absolutely normal - not sick, not grumpy. It was just like we'd never been gone. We still missed them, and probably talked about them a bit too much while we were away - but I doubt they ever missed us, and we never worried about whether they were okay.
