The service was really good. Hostess, waitress & waiters that we encountered were all very friendly. The outdoor patio was also really pretty. Food- I had no idea that Smoque Shack was no longer part of BTP so we were a little disappointed tbh. We ordered the beef ribs and chose the jalapeno cornbread for the side as well as the Broccoli & Bacon Mac N Cheese. The butter that came with the cornbread was the star of the show. The Mac was nicely al-dente but too peppery. Unfortunately, it was just a difference in food preference for us but we would come back for the vibes. read more

It's been a few years since my original 3* review. A lot has changed, including BTP, so here's an update. BTP seems to constantly change and adapt. New space? Try things and keep adjusting. Pandemic? No problem, outdoor seating. Rain? Add a cover. Serverless ordering for safety? Create a system so people can order from their phone from their seats, making best use of busy server resources. Love it. The space is industrial and comfortable. There's spaces for groups, couples/singles, for standing, for sitting, for getting out of or enjoying the weather. They also have music and other special events. Food is reliably delicious with a right sized menu. Had the spicy fried chicken sandwich. A bit spicier than I anticipated, it was perfectly cooked and delicious. Beer is reliably delicious and there's always something interesting, even risky, on the beer menu. The Mexican Chocolate Cake beer this week was that. Definately got the Mexican, less so the chocolate or cake...but delicious! Service is excellent with a responsible person roaming and checking in on tables to make sure all is good. Amazing and appreciated. BTP has grown into a great Ottawa business. Beyond the Pale has doubled down as both a joint that sells beer to go and as a pub. I'm particularly more enthusiastic about the tavern experience. As one of the storefronts in the City Centre mall, its location is favourable. Drivers will find ample parking, and transit-oriented commuters will find it a short walk away from Bayview station. Really popular with work groups, it seems. From what I understand, Beyond the Pale only had the capacity to sell beer until recently, when they gained the ability to also serve customers. So now they have a ton of space reserved for seating, including a large outdoor patio for the warmer days. The patio is well-lit and offers a great atmosphere for carousing. The mosquitoes and spiders that greet you outside are also a feature. If you decide to dine outside, you will have to make an order by scanning the QR code on your table and browse the menu on your phone. Making your transaction and tipping are also done online. My biggest objection to this is how you will have to tip with the strong likelihood of not having encountered your server yet. What's the point of tipping if you haven't even been provided service, y'know? (Though if you consider the bugs to be staff, then I apologize for the mixup.) I guess this is just a quirk of transitioning to online ordering, which is a whole other topic. As is expected of a brewery, there's a broad selection of drinks to choose from, including non-alcoholic beverages for drivers and the temperate. There are also some appetizers and dishes you can expect from a traditional pub, though I have yet to try any out. I think the prices are reasonable for today's inflated economy, though I have a preference to see it cheaper. You can also get beer for takeout; just go the counter indoors. Very good. Recommended to beer enjoyers. I'll end up coming here regularly since that's where our running group meets up. read more

They do not have license to serve alcohol here, this is only a store. You can sample some of the beers before you buy them in cans or growlers, but you can find them at various pubs across Ottawa. Good selection, decent prices. Highly recommend it. read more

Went for a lunch with my coworkers for a farewell party. Seating wasn't an issue for 10. Ordering is a bit quirky with scanning a barcode and paying in advance but that way you leave whenever you want. Their beer selection is pretty wide with the grapefruit zest one probably being my favorite. Everything on the food menu also looks amazing. Excellent Brewery situated in a industrial storefront area. They have a bottle shop or you can come in and buy cold beer and go. Or you can go next door Into The Tasting Room and sit down and linger for a while. They also have a nice outdoor patio with umbrellas and a few outdoor games. We had our three Pekingese with us and they were allowed inside the brewery where they probably got a lot of attention. Amazing! This place has charm, has great Beer, I say again, has great beer and ultimately has nice people striving to provide a good quality product! We were there on a military beer tour and we were given the best treatment imaginable. The tour was informative and included a wide variety of their best beers. The tour also included lunch from a food truck that serves at the brewery. We tried the pulled pork and pulled chicken. They were good, great bun! Just wish it came with fries instead of chips. We also bought a couple off the tour beers, amazing! If you like beer and real people trying to make it work, this is a must check out place! read more

I finally managed to pay them a visit a couple of weeks ago and was not disappointed. We went on a Friday afternoon and the place was crazy busy. The service was quick though, so we didn't have to wait very long. We picked up Pink Fuzz, Rye Guy and a collaboration beer called "Half in the Barrel". All were delicious and disappeared fairly quickly from my fridge. The days they're open are limited, because they need time to make the beer. (duh!) First heard about Beyond the Pale when we got some Pink Fuzz (its grapefruit-infused beer -- yummmm) on recommendation from Wellington Gastropub (yay for supporting locals!). It was delicious, so my husband and I walked into their little shop to pick some up for the weekend. Beyond the Pale isn't a bar, but they do have a tasting bar you can sit at and the staff can let you sample beers. From there, you buy a growler ($12-13) or a (I think) liter ($10) in reusable bottles for a refundable deposit fee ($2-3) plus the beer price. They generally have about four brews on tap of varying types, and each beer uses local ingredients. Simple, and it works Where it doesn't work it when it gets busy. The friendly, knowledgeable staff has a tendency to get snippy when there are more than five people in there, and the stock runs out SO quickly. I've never gone in there, even very early on a Saturday, and not have had beers sold out, despite just opening the night before. They're still new, so I hope Beyond the Pale can work out some of the supply kinks because it's a great, simple concept and the beer is really good. One staff member even had me drinking some dark oatmeal stout, which is usually not my bag, and I really really liked it. I plan on drinking Pink Fuzz all summer long. Plus, the growlers are a good idea to bring to a gathering, and every time we have, everyone has loved it. I hope more places start carrying Beyond the Pale, and so far it seems to really have spread across Wellington West at the Gastropub, Hintonburg Public House, Absinthe, and a handful of other places. I also believe they plan to start offering smaller bottles in a four pack. I love seeing a local microbrew beer scene emerge here, and I'm cheering for this place to succeed. read more

I stopped off here as part of a microbrew tour during my visit in Ottawa. Excellent product. The imperial super guy was a major highlight. Nice hoppy taste to it and a crisp finish. Also at the 9.1% alcohol content it really packed a punch. Very impressed. We tasted a good chunk of the beers here. There were some I gravitated towards more than others. But the imperial super guy is a winner! Good service. Seems pretty busy inside as many were stopping by to fill up growlers. Deservedly so, they are doing well it seems. Recommend you stop by here to try the imperial super guy if you are a craft beer fan who loves IPAs. read more

I'm really glad that more and more bars have started to stock BTP. Their beer is spectacular, in particular I salivate thinking about the Darkness, but I don't find the location or operating hours very convenient (I live in the East). The price is fair and honestly this is the best of the local microbreweries that I have found so far. I am looking forward to both increased production on their part and also the day that Ontario removes its draconian liquor laws so that gems like BTP can flourish. read more

I'm generally not much of a beer person but accompanied a friend to try something new. I was pleasantly surprised by how many options they had and how different they all tasted from each other. They have a range of different beers and I found a few that I genuinely enjoyed. The staff were also lovely and attentive. Great time at Beyond the Pale! We brought our 5 month old puppy to the brewery, and had a great time. We ordered the jerk chicken nachos, which were amazing! we also tried some of the bourbon chocolate popcorn, which was equally amazing. I've been meaning to write a review on here for a while now. Beyond the Pale is awesome! In my opinion, BTP has the best craft beer in Ottawa. They have a wonderful selection to chose from. Not only is the beer great but they also come up with very inventive names such as Pink Fuzz, Hop on your Face (lol)... Because this place is so awesome, they tend to run out of beer, which is fine by me. I'd rather they run out of beer then have week long old beer sitting on the shelf. Beyond the pale is a new local brewery. You can drop by to get any of their 4 types of beer in growlers, bombers , and 32 ounce bottles, all of which are extremely tasty. If you aren't sure what kind to get, don't despair, there are plenty of samples available. The guys who are there are genuine beer guys and are enthusiastic about their craft and are happy to talk beer with people. Its great that the micro brew scene is growing in Ottawa and these guys are a great example. read more

Another gem in the Hintonburg area. This place has fantastic tasting craft beer, with free samples to help you make up your mind. I always pop by here when visiting from Toronto and bring a few growlers home. The prices are very fair considering the freshness, quality and variety of flavours offered. The service is friendly and the community seems to love it. We need more places like this in Toronto! read more
