I applied online and spoke with Alicia Trottier, who requested standard financial documents. As a retiree with no debt, excellent credit, and substantial marketable assets, I sought the HELOC solely as a tax strategy--to avoid triggering capital gains. My application was passed to underwriter Melissa Villanueva, whose questions made it clear she didn't understand how our finances work. Despite multiple attempts, she refused to speak with me. Opened account to build credit. Got one credit card with $1000 limit. In ten years was not offered any credit increase, the entire time hovering with a credit score in upper 700s. What they did give me was a bunch of solicitation junk mail. The Mastercard they gave me was janky and gave me big problems overseas. Additionally, the checking account has a minimum requirement and a fee if not met. I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF THE NEW REQUIREMENT. Also an employee lied to me on the phone. I have several credit cards and a score in 800s. I no longer need this janky account and so now am jumping through multiple hoops to get it canceled. read more

Unfortunately there is no way to speak to a human via a phone call. Each and every phone number, local or toll free doesn't have any prompts. Then when you press a button, each and every time, after the third attempted the auto machine hangs up. It was help if their online portal was better. All the automated voice service says is bragging about their new online portal... Well see, that's the problem! I am logged out, can't get back in and no one to help except go into branch which is 38 minutes away, 47 with traffic each and every time the portal doesn't want to work. Frustrating. I have been banking with FCCU for over 25 years through the St. Petersburg branch. I contacted member services to follow up on the status of my application. I was transferred several times to different branch locations. I was finally able to speak with a member service representative from a different branch location (New Port Richey). I am unsure how she ended up on the line however, Janet R. was amazing. She immediately, asked for my number to pass along for someone to reach out to me. To my surprise she called me back and stated that she would be happy to assist in any way that she could. After several emails and phone calls communicating back and forth the issue was resolved. I have spent 13 phone calls and 2 days regarding a decline on a recurring charge to my debit card. It is a monthly charge which I have verified with each phone call is an accurate debit. Each month the charge is declined and each month I spend 10-15 calls trying to get it corrected. I have called Card Services, Member Services, and Corporate. For the most part the people I speak to put me on hold and then transfer me so I have to start all over with a new representative or they just hang up on me. To date, this credit union has gone out of their way to harass me about charges I have already verified as valid. Today I got a letter saying they were putting a hold on my debit and credit card since I have not responded to their repeated efforts to contact me about these charges. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER !!!! They don't deserve even 1 star. read more

They admitted that they made a mistake with their billing, sent me back and forth between "customer service" on the credit cards and "member services" 6 times to finally tell me that I was stuck with a 10.00 late fee from a mistake that THEY admitted was theirs....twice....on 2 separate phone calls. 10.00 is nothing, but it is the principal of it. I pay my balances in full EVERY time I get a statement. I paid the $25.18 that was due 19 days early...and still got a late fee....after the prior statement showed a 0.00 balance. they said it was their error but could not reverse it. What? I told them, they will never hear from me again. They have lost a customer for life....because they "could not" reverse a late fee that their credit card customer service people admitted was their mistake. Quite surprised when you call, they ("corporate") is not able/willing to complete a transfer from one account to another (I am not on the receiving acct). Is this below them?? Initially they said cant do the transfer because I am not on the receiving account?? The customer service is truly lacking as well as the ONGOING issue with the Bradenton office ATM being down AT LEAST 4x/month. Could be more, but that's my experience. Additionally, they truly need more help in the Bradenton office. When I actually go into the branch, they literally have 2 tellers covering the front end and drive-up. Another issue is when I deposit a check (from their institution!?), they hold it!? I literally have to cash it, then deposit it for funds to be available immediately.. are they really trying that hard to earn money off our funds. read more

Originally started doing business with this credit union because of its convenient location. After several years - and a few unpleasant surprises and experiences - I realized the convenience alone does not make up for the lapses in customer services, inability to set up my accounts as needed and the attitude of not caring. I tried not once but twice to set up linked accounts in a specific manner only to find out that after the first unsuccessful attempt and then the second, which resulted in fees, that it still was not functioning the way I requested. That cost me time and money and needless frustration. The lobby can be filled with customers and that place only has one or two people on hand to handle transactions. This happens during the lunch break when people may be likely to cash checks etc. which does not seem to be a good way to help clients get in and out quickly. The waits to actually talk to someone about a specific problem can be lengthy. And the rates offered for various loans? Let's just say that never happened because the rates were not at all attractive. Lesson learned. No need to wait for the next mistake. Time to move on. read more

Very poor communication with their account holders and their website is virtually useless (whoever the webmaster is the site has significant flaws and faulty actions). I'm a new customer and seriously considering on closing my accounts and finding a new bank that actually works for their account holders. I was at the branch in Brandon, Florida and the tellers Kathy and Liz were the most helpful.

I have my car loan through them simply because they provided the best rate. Was it worth it? Nah. In my payment for Oct., I accidentally left off $5, putting $253 instead of $258 (it was on time and I have never been late on a payment). I receive a late notice with no additional charge and think, whoops! so I immediately write a check for my Nov. payment plus the $5 I owe. The next day I put it in the mail, only to then get another late notice with an additional late charge (why would I be getting these late notices one day apart?). I call the next day and everything works out. I explain the $5 is on my Nov. payment check and they drop the late charge. Great! I see they cash that check on Nov. 17 (normally it isn't due until the 29th, so it's early, which I think is great). They must not pay attention to early payments at FCCU because yesterday I receive not only the first late notice, but also the second, which included a late fee, in the mail on the same day for my Nov. payment. Ya know, the one that I paid EARLY. I will be calling them today to get this straightened out, but this is just ridiculous. I had another horribly long and awful experience with them when I first opened the account, but I won't get into that. I suggest if they have any issues, they actually call the person and not just send TWO notices on the same day so that person doesn't even have a chance to figure out the issue. I imagine they do this because they know people will just pay the late fee without questioning it, which is just horrible during this time when people are struggling. DO NOT USE THEM. read more

Had a car loan with this institution and called in to discuss some of the fees that were being charged. Spoke with several individuals who took my contact information down and said they would do some further research and call me back. I waited over a week and received no call. When I contacted them back, they said there was no record of any notes on the account from my prior call. The agent I was speaking with then transferred me over to a "Manager" by the name of Mike who was in the Collections Dpt. Mike did not want to hear my side of the story out and refused to come to ANY sort of an agreement or compromise, and was particularly rude (Not sure if he treats all customers this way or not). Within fifteen minutes of my phone conversation ending with Mike, I was in my local branch to pay off the remaining balance in full. I HIGHLY suggest doing business with another credit union that actually values their customers more than bank fees, and treats their customers professionally. read more

The customer service and or collections service at this credit union is horrific! I had an issue with my payments because of this COVID19 pandemic and my situation. I spoke to a collector by the name of Luis "they never tell you their last name" Luis kept talking over me only repeating I was past due and not letting me ask questions or speak- I then asked to speak to a Manager which he was silent for awhile I had to ask him if he was still there- he then transferred me to someone named Mike "again no last name" who was just as abusive and condescending as Luis- I had sent two payments that I had a hard time making at this time because of my husbands lack of work and my hours being cut but I for went buying food to bring this account up to date as I have always paid on time. I asked them if they could work with me and they said I first had to bring my account up to date- well... I made the two payments which I had to mail because they could not "originally" take a payment over the phone and if your past due they do not let you access the website to pay your bill. Then my husband received an email from his boss forwarding an email from Florida Central Collections, to call them- they never called us and how embarrassing to send to my husbands job, and because he is not working right now his boss gets his emails- no one ever tried to call us- they said we were still past due and I asked how could that be I sent two payments to bring my account up to date- well.. because I was seven dollars short on the payment they posted it to my savings account instead of applying it towards my credit account making me even more past due because no one called me to say hey the second payment we got was not enough.."what??" the first payment was the same amount and they applied it to my credit account, what are they doing? I sent my check with the bill if it was seven dollars short they should have applied what I send and called me or billed me for it instead they chose to report it to my credit and charge me a late fee!!! Who does that?? I started crying I could not believe that not only did they do that but they were so forceful and rude and would not let me speak and when I asked to speak and when I said this is really hard on us financially Mikes response was "we are all going through this you are not the only one" what kind of a Manager is this?? I then asked for his Directors name and he said he could only give me an email?? Her name is Julie that is all I got- after crying and having a bad anxiety attack I paid what was needed "over the phone with a check" the entire process was demeaning, rude and unhealthy for me and my husband who have been good customers until now for two years! I cannot believe that in times like these they are the only creditor that will not work with you due to unemployment due to this pandemic I was not asking for a handout just an arrangement so this would not affect my credit the response originally from Luis was simply "too late" I think this company is horrible and the employees that work for them are not a good representation either if you work directly with people affected by any financial or physical issue there should be some type of compassion but it is clear that compassion is not the first and foremost on this company's mind its all about the money and its very clear.
