We have been coming to Hommosassa for a couple years now for Memorial Day weekend and decided to try this place for the first time. Unfortunately tried to order food and drinks at 8:00 and the bartender was so slow and we stood in line for 15 minutes and when we went to order she said no longer serving food when the person in front of us just did. Go see the monkeys. Seriously-nothing like sitting by the water with a mixed drink, sunshine, monkeys on an island, country music and mixed drinks. I love hitting Atlas Obscura sites and Monkey Island was on my list. The Cuban pizza was delicious! The mustard drizzle-can't be beat. My fiance and I were in the area buying a boat and the salesman recommended this place for lunch. It was only a 10 minute drive across the river and had great waterfront views so we tried it. We ate on the second story and it was a really enjoyable experience. Lindsay was our bartender and she was extremely friendly and gave us great recommendations. The bathrooms were clean and had really unique, cute decor like iron wash pan sinks. Every seat there is a good seat because you're right on the water and get to watch the monkeys goofing off on Monkey Island. We each tried two drinks. I had a Blood orange beer from Shipyard and the Homosassa springs lemonade. Both were delicious, but the lemonade stole the show. It had a slice of fresh lemon garnish and coarse sugar on the rim that was stuck with honey. YUMMY! My fiance had a cream ale on tap and the Chazz swamp gimlet. The gimlet was light and refreshing. I don't remember which bear he had, but it was smooth and rich. We had the blue crab dip and a tomato/mozzarella pizza with gator sausage. The crab dip came with pita chips, was a great temperature and had good flavor, but a bit too much salt. The pizza was fresh and flavorful. The addition of the gator sausage really gave it an extra kick. We will definitely be back. Rating from a F to an A+++ I give it an A+. The overly salty dip and the limited menu options are the only reason for deductions. read more

Stopped in for a drink. It's just a place to have a quick drink or two. If you stay longer it will not enhance your experience. Good drinks with limited food menu. A lot of snowbirds and transplants so if they bother you and they do me sometimes - fast paced attitudes with chips on their shoulders, then you may not want to come here, but you will miss out on some fine drinks and nice people. read more

Wife and I are locals in Homosassa and we frequent the Monkey Bar. Never had a problem and all the staff are friendly. Last night at about 4pm on 2/23/2022 we ordered at the bar which is how its done there and carry our drinks back to the table. Ordered drinks handed the lady the cash and said keep the change. She had the change and said 'Are you sure you dont want the change because if its not helping you its not helping us' in other word you didnt leave enough. How much tip do you leave when you have to wait in line and carry you own drink? I asked her to repeat herself to make sure I heard it right she ignored me, when I asked her name 3 times she finally said 'Sandra' not sure she gave me the right name. This is my personal go to spot when in the Homossasa area - for at least 10 years! I love the view and the food has always been consistently good. The current menu is pizzas and I ordered the Cuban pizza and the Chicken Pesto pizza - both were delicious! The signature cocktails are always amazing - I had a Blood Orange (margarita) excellent as always! This place is all about views, the monkey island attraction, sunsets and watching the boats go by - top that off with good food and it's the perfect stop on a local adventure! read more

The food was amazing but I really think on weekend s they could use a few more floor runners... The bartenders are doing a lot of jobs for one person. However just look at this!!! Cute little bar overlooking the water and Monkey Island. Limited menu of fire-roasted pizzas and a few appetizers. Seems like the only place for miles that is open on a Sunday night, so it was crowded. Quite a wait for the pizza, but have a few drinks in the meantime and enjoy the view. Food was okay - pizza and garlic knots. But the atmosphere was super. watching the ships roll in and watch them roll away again in the middle of a thunderstorm was crazy to watch. We stopped in for dinner last night. It was really neat to see the monkey's hanging out on their own little island. We shared 3 pizzas-pepperoni, chicken pesto & the Cuban. They were all pretty good with a nice crispy thin crust. The Cuban pizza was my favorite! The flavor from the pulled pork & pickles was delicious! We just ordered sodas but they were a big waste because they had so much ice in them that melted and covered the top of the soda. You could get refills but it didn't help much we just threw them out. I realize it's a bar & most people aren't getting sodas but we were there with our kiddos. We sat at the back with a great view of the water & the monkeys. It was definitely a fun dinner and our kids loved the view & the informal atmosphere. read more

I'm so excited that they've opened up Florida Cracker Kitchen now! No more driving to Brooksville to enjoy the BEST breakfast and lunch in Citrus County! I always go for their made-from-scratch corned beef hash which is the BEST you can find anywhere. I've also had the shrimp and grits, the crab cakes for lunch and more...and ALL the food is delicious. Our waitress Sarah was a delight also with fast, friendly service. I have NOT tried the Monkey Bar yet because I've already got a favorite pizza place in town...but Florida Cracker Kitchen for breakfast and lunch will be our go-to place. The prices are also so much more reasonable than other places in town. You can get breakfast here or sandwiches or salad and the seafood dishes are amazing. I've already spotted 4 menu items I want to try. DO try it and the food is JUST as good at this location as it is in Brooksville, I found. NO more traveling all the way. A+ read more

This site has had 4-5 different restaurants in the 20 plus years we have lived in Homosassa. Not a one was worth a second visit. We had eaten at the Brooksville Crackers...and liked it. So we sure were glad to hear of the Old Homosassa Crackers. Rainy day and just perfect to go out to lunch. We ate at new office location and not on the waterside deck. The menu sure fits old Florida eating... Catfish, Colored Greens, and much more. Wife had shrimp, and I had Catfish and Greens... Portions were large, and very well prepared and tasty. But what we liked most was the super staff that reflected.. Old Florida from start to finish. Everyone was a delight... And the food was very good. It is hard to find food that is fixed like Granny did as a kid... But Florida Cracker Kitchen does just that! We both give it 5 stars in the down home cooking outing. Glad we have a new and quality place in Town. read more

Arguably the worst pizza I have ever had. It was a thin tasteless crust, and a tasteless sauce. It was on par with a poor quality frozen pizza. Just awful. There is a very limited menu that included the above mentioned disaster, a few salads and some appetizers. On a positive note, it is a nice atmosphere on the river. read more

This place was a favorite of mine and for many of my friends for years until the Cracker Kitchen bought in in conjunction with the Lowman lawyers. Immediately prices skyrocketed and they actually charge for parking on weekends. They completely alienated the countless locals who daily frequented this place. Most of these former customers now go to the Shed or one of the other local watering holes where beers and drinks are still reasonably priced. Most folks I've spoken to assume that the new owners set their sites exclusively on the tourists who don't mind spending their money on overpriced drinks. A real shame as I really do miss going to this place. read more

Monkey Bar is one of our favorites. We go for the ambiance. Excellent service, good selection of craft beer, and a great view of the Homosassa. We just happen to eat while we're there. They have good pizza and salad. The Hot Blue Crab Dip is a favorite. read more

Went last night for the first time because we heard the pizza was good. When we got there there was entertainment upstairs . I can't do stairs due to a back injury and was informed they have an elevator but it was broken and hopefully repaired soon. I ended up trying the stairs which were very hard for me going up not too bad coming down but never again they should accommodate handicap people and also people with children in strollers. The pizza was ok but wouldn't order again. The view was great and hopefully they get the elevator repaired so we can give them another try. read more
