Yassssss!!! We were in town for a few nights at the start of Scalloping season. We were asking for recommendations as to greets local places to eat. That's when we were introduced to The Freezer! Wednesday is steak night and that's all we needed to hear! There's a reason they call it the freezer. Upon arrival, it looks like exactly that. Very unassuming and you wouldn't give it a thought passing by except for the packed parking lot across the street. Walking up, we were greeted with a delicious smell and grilling smoke. You have to walk through what you see in see in a restaurant freezer, the long thick plastic door flaps. From there, you have entered the dining room. A room adorned in dollar bills all over the walls, and every other surface possible that isn't tables. We got there before 6, which was advantageous since the crowd started rolling up afterwards. You have to walk up to the bar, order your food, and then seat yourself. I ordered the steak dinner which included corn on the cob, potatoes, and sour cream. My husband ordered to 2-lbs of shrimp. Oooohhhh, everything was so flavorful! We thoroughly enjoyed it more than we even expected. If you love shrimp (and steak on Wednesdays), you must check out The Freezer!

Little hole in the wall that locals love

A little hole in the wall, that all the locals know. Cash only and a fairly limited menu, no fried food. It sits right on the water, has tables doen on the grass and near the river, but the day we were there it was too chilly. Prices are fine. We got 2 shrimp boxes 1.25 lb and 2.5lb of fresh gulf shrimp. They were steamed/boiled to perfection and had been deveined and beheaded. The shrimp were large and juicy, so well seasoned with old bay. I didnt realjze they weren't de-shelled on my first one. I got the hang of removing their little legs and jacket of a shell to get to the tasty morsels. It is a very no frills sort of place, with money all over the walls and ceiling. Its a vibe.

Took out the tritoon on the river and decided to get dinner. So nice to pull up to the dock and not drive. Place was busy and we got in line and ordered and even though busy we had our food within 15+ mins. They bring out your food and yell your name then once they locate you they bring to your table but in our case it was our boat. Very cool option. We ordered the salmon dip, 2 ribeyes, corn on the cob, crab legs and peel and eat shrimp. Steaks were cooked perfect and everything was hot and fresh and tasted great. Will return for sure..

I've been here multiple times and this place never disappoints! Today they had wings and waffle fries which I think they only do on the weekend. They were both solid.

The Freezer Tiki Bar in Homosassa is one of those places that truly lives up to the hype. Cold beer, strong drinks, and the freshest seafood you can ask for. The stone crab claws are outstanding, perfectly chilled and cracked, and the shrimp are just as good. Simple, no frills, and done right. The atmosphere is pure old Florida charm. Laid back, waterfront vibes. It feels like a place locals have loved forever, and for good reason. Service is friendly and efficient, even when it is busy, and everything moves surprisingly smoothly. If you are looking for a polished or fancy experience, this is not it. If you want great seafood, cold drinks, and a fun authentic Florida stop, The Freezer is a must visit. I will absolutely be back.

What a funky cool spot! A must-visit quirky restaurant if you're in the area! It's located next to a dock and has some awesome peel and eat shrimp and cold beer! Very, Very flavorful! I was left craving more of this shrimp a few days later. (Be aware the servings are huge!! It's very easy to share.)

Great gem in a great old Florida town. The best shrimp in the state. The best people. love coming here with my family. They do things their way and not your way so deal with it and enjoy the food and view

We went the other day and had the most amazing shrimp dinner!! It was probably the best shrimp I have ever had!!! We are from Alaska and if we over went back to Florida that would be our first stop!!!!

Came here with out of town family to have the special steak dinner on Wednesday evening. We arrived at 4:45PM and had to wait until 5PM to order our steak meal. So we ordered a half order of steamed shrimp to share with we four. It turned out to be a great appetizer. Cassandra, our waitress came by just aft5 and we ordered the 14 oz rib eye steak times two to split between two people each and it came wit potatoes and corn. The corn was not too good but everything else was great and cooked perfectly. The place was packed when we ate. The steaks took 36 minutes to arrive from ordering it was ok since we had our appetizers and beverages. It was all good

This is old Florida at its best. Service is fun and entertaining. The restaurant is an old freezer with a tiki bar area . You can sit inside or out. Cash only. Beer is cold and reasonable. We got the steamed shrimp that is amazing. I got the ribeye steak with potatoes and corn. The steak is cooked over a charcoal grill every Wednesday night. The cook is spot on medium rare. Don't forget the clam chowder.

This local tiki bar/restaurant is worth seeking out! It's a popular spot with locals and a friend shared this gem. First off bring cash bc it is cash only. OMG the freshest cheapest and most delicious peel and eat shrimp. We ordered 2.5 pounds and were in seafood heaven. Fresh off the boats and into our bellies!

    Steamed Shrimp (Full Platter)

The steamed shrimp was absolutely delicious! And, I enjoyed the clam chowder. Note, the shrimp has a rub on it. It's adds flavor, but it could be potentially spicy for some people. My sister and I split a full order of shrimp, and there were still some shrimp leftover. Each order comes with butter and cocktail sauce. I don't know what they put in their cocktail sauce, but it was DELICIOUS!! It was one of my favorite parts of the order. I also had the sangria. It was good, but it was nothing out of this world. The place has seating inside and outside. When we (a party of four) got there, it was packed. There was not many places to sit inside. You order at the counter, and then, they bring the food out to your table. We were a bit confused by the process at first because it looks like a wait service restaurant, but it is not. Since we couldn't find seats inside, we went outside, which was a nice setup. However, we kept getting bit by bugs, which ruined the experience but is not surprising for an outdoor space near water. Luckily, a spot ended up available inside, and we were able to eat in peace (no bugs). The staff was mixed. Some were alright, and then, a few were very helpful. There is free parking across the street. However, please note, the place is CASH ONLY. They have ATM on site, but it would've been nice for them to take card.

From Chicago to Seafood Heaven (Bring Cash!) Visiting friends in Inverness who would not shut up about this place. Seriously, they raved. Unfortunately, we couldn't make it together, so we took the 30-minute drive on our own--and wow, are we glad we did. This spot is the definition of a hole-in-the-wall dive bar meets waterfront gem. You know, the kind of place where the food is so good, they don't need fancy décor--just fresh seafood and a killer view. I had no clue what to order, so I did what any confused, hungry person would do: I asked the regulars in line. They did not disappoint! My friends had already hyped up the shrimp, and the locals backed them up, also recommending the salmon and clam chowder. Plot twist: They were out of salmon (tragic), so I pivoted to steamed clams. Best decision ever--absolutely delicious. But let's talk about the real MVP here: the shrimp. Do yourself a favor and go double butter, double cocktail sauce. I'm telling you, this was some of the best shrimp I've ever eaten in my life. The clam chowder? Also fantastic. Perfectly balanced, loaded with clams, and just the right amount of potato--none of that watery nonsense. Service is casual and fun--you order at the bar, they yell your name when it's ready, and you yell back like you're in a seafood-themed roll call. Now, VERY IMPORTANT: BRING CASH. No cards, no Venmo, no IOUs--just good old-fashioned paper money. When my total came to $29, I actually did a double take. The server saw my face and asked, "Too expensive?" I laughed and said, "Nope, too low!" If you love great seafood and don't mind a little drive, this place is absolutely worth it. Get in the car. Now. And don't forget the cash!

I have been eating the steamed shrimp for many years and it is my favorite meal hands down, nothing close. I assumed the shrimp came from right here in Homosassa. Are they?

    Yes they are wild caught.

It was super busy when we went our first time and it was not during happy hour on several occasions we have visited. We live close and visited here a bunch the first 2 years we moved to Ocala and have visited less and less since then. There have been several occasions we have stood at the bar waiting not only to be greeted but also waited very long times to receive our drinks. In their defense, many times the bartenders were busy attending to patrons or making drinks. However, there were several times some bartenders were just talking to friends or messing around. The drinks here are super detailed so they take some time and TLC. I will say, most times our drinks taste delicious and the presentations are magnificent! The decor is so cozy and the ambiance is consistent. Hubs and I absolutely love Tiki themed bars and fell in love with Hawaii after our visit years ago so this place is perfect for us. We also like this place because they are open later than most places in town. We recently visited for a nightcap and it was definitely different. I recently had referred someone here because she was looking for Hawaii themed food (they used to serve food) and she informed me they did not serve food. That sucks because we always meant to try it but never did. Looked good. When we recently visited, they did not have physical menus and were referred to QR code cards on the bar. Our bartender was attentive and helpful with choosing a drink during our recent visit. He actually went out of his way to make the orange peel twist in a perfect manner. I appreciated that! I was going to suggest to hubs we have another drink and then a roach crawled across the bar. I discreetly informed the bartender of the dead roach I killed when we closed out and he took it away. Usually this place is clean and tidy so I was surprised to witness the roach. They do have seating outside as well but we usually sit inside to listen to the themed music.
