A friend recommended that we go here for the steamed shrimp. It was definitely worth the drive. We shared a full serving of steaming hot shrimp. They are not peeled, which I discovered after the first bite, but very easy to peel. Very nice seasoned with a spicy rub. They are served with two container of butter and two with cocktail sauce. Eating is messy but they have paper towel rolls on all tables! The place is, let's say, interesting. It's an old freezer for the fishermen. The facade on the parking lot side is not inviting. It sits right on the water, has tables doen on the grass and near the river, but the day we were there it was too chilly. Prices are fine. We got 2 shrimp boxes 1.25 lb and 2.5lb of fresh gulf shrimp. They were steamed/boiled to perfection and had been deveined and beheaded. The shrimp were large and juicy, so well seasoned with old bay. I didnt realjze they weren't de-shelled on my first one. Took out the tritoon on the river and decided to get dinner. So nice to pull up to the dock and not drive. Place was busy and we got in line and ordered and even though busy we had our food within 15+ mins. They bring out your food and yell your name then once they locate you they bring to your table but in our case it was our boat. Very cool option. Yassssss!!! We were in town for a few nights at the start of Scalloping season. We were asking for recommendations as to greets local places to eat. That's when we were introduced to The Freezer! Wednesday is steak night and that's all we needed to hear! There's a reason they call it the freezer. Upon arrival, it looks like exactly that. Very unassuming and you wouldn't give it a thought passing by except for the packed parking lot across the street. Walking up, we were greeted with a delicious smell and grilling smoke. You have to walk through what you see in see in a restaurant freezer, the long thick plastic door flaps. From there, you have entered the dining room. A room adorned in dollar bills all over the walls, and every other surface possible that isn't tables. We got there before 6, which was advantageous since the crowd started rolling up afterwards. You have to walk up to the bar, order your food, and then seat yourself. I ordered the steak dinner which included corn on the cob, potatoes, and sour cream. My husband ordered to 2-lbs of shrimp. Came here with out of town family to have the special steak dinner on Wednesday evening. We arrived at 4:45PM and had to wait until 5PM to order our steak meal. So we ordered a half order of steamed shrimp to share with we four. It turned out to be a great appetizer. Cassandra, our waitress came by just aft5 and we ordered the 14 oz rib eye steak times two to split between two people each and it came wit potatoes and corn. The corn was not too good but everything else was great and cooked perfectly. The place was packed when we ate. I don't know what they put in their cocktail sauce, but it was DELICIOUS!! It was one of my favorite parts of the order. I also had the sangria. It was good, but it was nothing out of this world. The place has seating inside and outside. When we (a party of four) got there, it was packed. There was not many places to sit inside. You order at the counter, and then, they bring the food out to your table. We were a bit confused by the process at first because it looks like a wait service restaurant, but it is not. Since we couldn't find seats inside, we went outside, which was a nice setup. However, we kept getting bit by bugs, which ruined the experience but is not surprising for an outdoor space near water. Luckily, a spot ended up available inside, and we were able to eat in peace (no bugs). The staff was mixed. Some were alright, and then, a few were very helpful. My mom and I were out and about, exploring some of the coastal communities, and it was time for a bite to eat for lunch. We went around to a couple of the local seafood places in the area, but most of them were inundated with holiday crowds and silliness. It is well off the beaten path, doesn't exactly have the most inviting outwards appearance, and the ordering methods are a bit odd... just our kind of place! We walked in and found that a lot of the tables out by the water were open... everyone else wanted to be inside in the minimal air conditioning for some reason. It was so nice outside that it was an obvious choice for us. Mom ordered a beer, and I got a cider, and I ordered a full platter of the peel and eat shrimp. The beer went down really well, the cider was good, and when we received the shrimp we thought we had made a mistake with the sheer amount of shrimp... but it turned out to be a wonderful thing because we were able to take the left overs home... I'm telling you, this was some of the best shrimp I've ever eaten in my life. The clam chowder? Also fantastic. Wow! We first saw this place on a instagram review. Yelp backed up what they said. So we had to come! It's a hole in the wall dive bar restaurant. Which we love! They were out of smoked mullet dip, which I really wanted, but the smoked salmon dip was amazing too! It came with a healthy portion of dip and a full sleeve of saltine crackers. The real star of the show here it's the shrimp go ahead and order double butter, double cocktail . It was some of if not the best shrimp I've ever eaten in my life, even my buddy who doesn't really care for shrimp tore his tray up! I had a mixed experience. The shrimp was great, but the crabs were just okay. The smoked salmon dip was not the best, they could have used better crackers too. The presentation is very casual (to-go boxes), and the interior could use an update--starting with actual menus at the tables. The biggest issue, however, was the lack of accessible seating. We had to move a cushioned chair for my disabled grandmother, which led to a staff member harassing her and cursing in front of us and other guests. The place was packed so we had high hopes. But the food was a real disappointment. The shrimp were overcooked and the pretzel was one of the frozen ones and tasted like it had freezer burn. They poured butter all over the pretzel which made it that much less appealing. Drinks were way watered-down. The only thing that was good was the can of Coca Cola.
