By far the best Breakfast place I've been to in the Keys. Everyone was so friendly from the moment you walked in the door. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. I was expecting some freezer burned hockey puck but instead I had the second best chicken fried steak I ever had next to one I had in Austin Texas and it only came in second because of the size- not the flavor. The steak was tender and flavorful, the sausage gravy was a Texas style white gravy. Everything was top notch. If I was to suggest any improvement it would be ceramic mugs for the coffee. Parking is a bit of a challenge as this is a small restaurant. The decor and general vibe is like a house converted to a restaurant which gave it a "homey" feel. They have a large counter top as well so if you want a quick bite it is the perfect place to sit! The service is slow and forgetful, but the sandwich made it worth it! We are from Southern NJ and vacation in Marathon between Christmas and New Years. For about a decade we have always made sure we visit Florida Keys Cafe at least once during our stay. In fact, in our group, we refer to it as "the sausage gravy place." The food is terrific! The service is always friendly and fast and the wait staff are always attentive to our needs. I appreciate that the food comes out hot and tasty. There is a wide variety of choices on the menu, including some specialized breakfast combinations that will leave the hungriest patron full and satisfied. When you walk in and take your seat, you feel very at-home in the laid-back environment. The place is small, but not cramped. There are tables, booths, and seats available at the counter. It's nice to sit and enjoy a meal amidst the hustle and bustle of other patrons who are eating and talking and enjoying life. I am glad for the friendly banter I engage in with the servers. They are not so serious that they can't enjoy a laugh now and again. In conclusion: yes, I recommend eating at Florida Keys Cafe. The variety of food can please even the pickiest of eaters. The food comes out cooked to order, hot, and delicious. The wait staff are friendly and the service is prompt. Went here for a quick brunch before heading out to Miami airport. We reached here around 11:25 am and the place was relatively busy. Caution! The floors were very slippery and Havaianas didn't have much grip. I then noticed that most of their staff members were sliding in and out of the kitchen area - literally! They didn't have any beer, but did have $5.50 mimosas and $7 Bloody Mary's. We ordered both, and both were just ok. The Bloody Mary didn't have much of a kick to it. For food we ordered Shrimp and Grits and Fish and Grits ($14), Western Omelette ($13), and their Breakfast Burrito ($13) - without eggs and meat in it. The Burrito that I had was quite dry although did have plenty of cheese. Food overall was ok, very home style, and service was excellent. While not cash only, if you pay by card, there is a 3% service charge to it. read more

Ok, any of the Keys can be expensive especially the further south you roam. We stayed in Marathon and this little diner just south of 7 mile bridge is really nice for breakfast and lunch for $12 pp. The place is clean and cooks up really good breakfast and lunch. Totally unbelievable manager (claims to be the sister of the owner). We came in as a group of 8. Sat down right away, no wait, and not very busy. Our waitress, Lisa, was super sweet. All was going well until our food came out. Other waitresses took our food as it came out of the kitchen, so our ticket was all messed up. Food came out all wrong, missing items, cold, and we just came to the point of settling for what we got. Lisa scrambled to fix it and constantly apologized. She even took care of our bill even though it wasn't her fault. No apology from the manager. I tried to talk to her and she said told us some personal information about her. First of all, she should NEVER share information about her employees. Second, she should have helped!!!! Lisa even asked for help with another table while she was trying to fix our tickets, and the manager gave her a nasty look and walked in the kitchen to do it. Second time I got eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, a waffle, fruit, milk, and coffee. Not so greasy on this one but the food did come out less than hot. They gave me a new order and all was well.
