Rooster Rice
Bernie S.

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant, but the service was superb. Our server was exceptionally understanding and accommodating throughout the entire experience. My husband ordered a mocktail that he ended up not liking, she kindly changed the drink for him. When our food arrived, I found my "Rooster Rice" overly salty -- to the point that it was difficult to eat. Once again, our server checked in to see how everything was, and when I was honest about the dish, she immediately offered to have it remade. Aside from the saltiness, I also felt the pineapple pieces could have been larger. The flavors overall were decent, though not particularly memorable. On the other hand, the "Chicken Teriyaki Bowl" my husband ordered was excellent. I really enjoyed the flavor and texture of it. The yin yang rice was also wonderful -- so good that I'm considering incorporating it into our weekly dinner rotation. The atmosphere was laid-back yet still felt intimate, which made for a pleasant dining experience. Overall, while the food had some highs and lows, the staff was simply phenomenal and truly made the visit worthwhile.

Early dinner weekday 3 people Artsy decor We sat at bar Both sake drinks were to sweet for our tastes No bad just fyi they're sweet (cherry pineapple & lychee sake drinks) Sweet & attentive servers Knowledgeable about gluten free items Ordered: Pork bao buns - he said they were tasty, large portion of pork belly in each (3) Karaage chicken rice bowl (gluten free / dairy free) - very yummy with black & white rice (rice flour coating on chicken) Lobster & shrimp fried rice for 2 in pineapple shell (gluten free / dairy free) Large shrimp & large chunks of lobster Ends up being 15$ per person - a great deal! Only issue was a couple chunks of rice were not stir fried completely so I have to mix it in to separate Tip: any noodle dish can have a rice noodle replacement for allergies

Great food. Try the wings. Tender, crispy and good Korean flavor. This new place is getting a lot of attention.

We spent a week in Key West and tried many restaurants, and this was one of my favorites. It's…read morelocated just off Duval Street and could easily be overlooked. Food: There were six of us, and we ordered a mix of different items. Everything was very good, super fresh, and each dish looked like it was prepared with care. Of everything we tried, the Pork Belly and Grouper Cheeks buns were outstanding. Each featured slightly different pickled vegetables and sauces, which made them especially memorable. The Tempura Shrimp was delicate, with just the right amount of light, crisp coating. The accompanying squid salad was crunchy and fresh. The three ramen dishes were good overall, although one person felt the broth wasn't as rich or complex as expected. Service: When we arrived, we weren't entirely sure about the process. The lone server, who I believe was also the owner, explained that we could take the large table and then brought menus and water. He had a serious, efficient demeanor and stayed focused on his work, with minimal small talk. As the restaurant filled up, it was impressive to watch him manage all the tables on his own. Most of the cooking took place in the back kitchen, but some finishing touches were done behind the counter, adding to the experience. Atmosphere: The space is small and well organized, with front windows that bring in plenty of natural light. It has a unique character without feeling overdesigned, creating a relaxed and comfortable environment. There are tables for groups of various sizes, as well as counter seating for individuals. Definitely a place we would return to and recommend to friends.

Enjoyed everything, potstickers are very crispy and thick, wonton soup still very tasty. Pork bao were nice, slightly sweet pork with cucumber and cilantro. The fried rice also very good with a very nice flavor, again we over ordered but we still pretty much took it all down. Service is great, staff super nice. And if I ever come back to Key West I know where I'll make a few stops. It's very nice to have the variety in this area. Definitely recommend.

Instead of being accommodating, the owner clearly showed frustration on his face. That reaction alone was surprising. Later, when we decided to order more food, he came to our table with a tablet and told us that next time he would not allow us to add more orders. Seriously? I was there with kids, and they were hungry. Because of that, I chose not to walk out and go to another restaurant, even though I wanted to. The food itself was burned, and combined with the poor attitude, it made the experience even worse. I didn't travel all the way to Key West to be treated like this. I would strongly recommend choosing another restaurant.

He was always available but not hovering. Water was plentiful and didn't have to ask for it. We were there around 6:30 on. Wednesday. We wanted a quieter spot and the hostess was great about finding us one. And it was a bit noisy. There was a large group of "fratboy" types making way too much noise at the bar. So we appreciated the hostess getting us a table far from them. I do have one small critique about the lighting. We were in a row of tables that had NOT ONE OVERHEAD LIGHT. AND the lights that were overhead about 10 feet on either side of the table were on very dim. We had to use our phone lights to read the menu. But I will return and refer others.
