I was amazed that they had the whole thing down, cut up and removed, in about three hours. I was expecting an all day job. Everything was left in good order. The condition of the tree was that it was partially rotted so I worried some part would fall on my roof (as happened a few months ago) but they have amazing equipment that can handle, I would expect, just about any situation. First of all the customer service is terrible!! The workers did a good job taking the trees down but didn't have the right equipment for the job. Didn't have a chainsaw long enough to cut all the way thru the trunk or a machine strong enough to get the trunks up to the road. They drug it thru my yard causing a lot of damage and also damaged the neighbors yard. They also left some of the trunks right in the road until they came back the next day. Then they wouldn't grind the stumps because some of the stump had metal fencing grown in it. I asked them to grind all of the stump except for the metal or to cut the metal out first then grind the stump. They refused to do it and refused to try to come up with a logical solution without ruining their stump grinder. They underestimated the job and just wanted to get onto the next job!! Their tree work was fine I guess, but they used my neighbor's driveway for access and left it a total mess with caked-on mud from their vehicles that looked like damage. When I asked them to return to clean it up they refused and then ignored me except to tell me I was wrong to expect them to leave the neighbor's driveway in the same condition they found it. I had to clean it up myself which took several rounds of hosing, sweeping and scraping. That should not have been my responsibility. Because they were pretty busy with scheduled workload - my project was just to trim crimson king maple tree - there was about a 6 week wait. David and his crew arrived @ 7:50am, was well organized, did a fine job, did not damage any lawn, and cleaned up work area when completed- in less than two hours. Two Large Trees Removed By Crane We had two huge Popular (Cottonwood) trees in our back yard that were 3-1/2 feet in diameter at the base and about 80 feet high. They were also only about 3 feet from the foundation and beginning to stress it. If that was not bad enough there was no access to the back yard for equipment because we have a brook that runs behind the house. So we needed a company with a crane to remove the trees. Enter Flower City Tree... Steve, Andy, and their crew arrived at about 8am and the amazing tree removal began. Steve operated the Crane and his son, Andy, was put up into the first tree to secure the slings that will haul the 3000-5000 lb. sections of the tree over my house. He then cuts the top section of the tree. The crane operated by his dad, Steve, swings the tree section over my house and down to the rest of the crew on the ground. They maneuver it and cut it into smaller pieces that get sent into the mulch machine and the chips are blown into a truck. This was impressive to watch. These guys really know what they are doing. Everyone had headphones with a microphone to keep in contact with each other. After about 6 hours they were done. Aside from some residual sawdust, you would never know that they were even there. I'm very happy with their price and their work, so much so that I want to say something about their crane operation. Flower City Tree owns their crane. The operator, Steve, runs it several days a week and really knows how to run it. His son is in the tree and has to rig the tree with slings and ropes so it can be lifted over my house. When the tree is cut - there is no second chance. If the sling is not right then the tree will fall. Nobody wants a 1 ton piece of tree falling 40 feet through their house. Now, most crane operators pick up heavy steel beams on the ground and hoist it up. If it is not rigged right they can set it right back down and adjust the way it is in the sling. Tree cutters do not have that luxury. They have to get it right - the first time - and every time. If not there would be major consequences. And, Flower City Tree got it right every single time! My wife and I, and several neighbors, enjoyed watching this very professional team work their magic and Steve said something to me that explained it all. He said, "That's my son up in that tree and the workers are my friends. We can't afford even one small mistake. We are very careful." That about sums it up. If you need a company that has great prices, with caring, professional owners and employees that do a great job then look no further. Flower City Tree recklessly damaged our huge Maple. They lied, yelled, breached the contract & left a mess for us to have to deal with. The job was to install 2 cables in the top 1/3 of the canopy (per ANSI specs), doing weight reduction pruning & installing a brace rod through the trunk, to stabilize a crack. The crew arrived & did some small branch pruning. One guy went up & installed the cables, one at the right height, one way too low. They had a small battery operated drill to go through a HUGE tree. I could hear the guy complaining about not having the right tools. Later, Andy arrived & saw the drilling for the brace wasn't done, so he spent several HOURS, bull-headedly, trying to force the inadequate tool to work. Therefore, he never did the major pruning or fixed the height of the cable. Andy told all but one person to leave our job. Andy stubbornly tried to get the small drill to work, despite his workers not being able to, all morning. He had one guy left to try to help him get his drill bit, which was now stuck, out of the tree. At 4pm I went outside. Andy told me he was done with this job. He said he was losing money because of it. He told me he was missing other estimates & he spent money on a drill bit that, now, he had to cut in half to get out of my tree! He yelled at me, as if the problem was my tree! He marched around complaining & then looked at me & said he wasn't spending any more money on this job. He wasn't paying a crew to come back to finish or buying more equipment to finish the job! None of this came with any type of apology that he had screwed the job up. He told me he was done and that whatever he had done up to this point was free. He stormed off leaving his worker & myself standing under the tree with our jaws dropped. The poor guy clearly felt bad. He said he would come & fix it on his own time. Then Andy pulled up in his car, & told the worker to tell me he was going to buy the tool to finish the brace & install it at some later date. He made no mention of fixing the cable or finishing the pruning.The worker said "Well, at least the cables are there to protect it somewhat, for now". I emailed saying I didn't want Andy back on my job & that I would work with the father, Steve (co-owner) instead. Andy denied any of this occurred & the office called me back accusing me of intentionally upsetting Andy. Steve & I agreed I would hire & pay a company to do the brace & deduct the charges from FCTs invoice. I told him that since FCT had gotten the other work, the other company would charge me more to come for just one thing & he said he got that. The other co came the next day & emailed the price on Sat. They also said the pruning cuts FCT did were done wrong, some were flush & some were too long & these cuts would make it hard for the tree to heal making it prone to disease, insects etc. (this is because the workers were doing preliminary cuts, removing small branches from larger ones that they expected Andy would be removing during the weight reduction pruning, but Andy never finished.) He also said the cables were done wrong. He said the static cable should have been much higher in the tree, even above the dynamic one. Essentially, they were upside down. He gave that feedback all unsolicited. I agreed to the new proposal to do the brace on Mon, 1 business day after Steve & I agreed. But on Tuesday the Flower City Tree THIEVES snuck onto my property, they never came to the door, they SNUCK, like thieves, & removed the cables from my tree! They left my majestic Maple with big holes all the way through it & with messy pruning cuts that have jagged edges, many branches they cut, still dangling in the canopy overhead. Then, since this happened in late March, the sap began running. The sap was literally gushing right into the cracked crotch of the tree, worsening & weakening it further. They MANGLED my beautiful tree & left a big problem for me to try to fix & then they took the time to come back & steal the cables, the ONLY THING that offered any compensation for the MESS Andy created. I'm sure the reason was two-fold. 1. Andy is a childish, mean person. 2. He didn't want anyone else to see how poorly they were installed. Even though we were going to be getting less done & still paying the same amount between the two companies, I agreed to do it so the tree would have something holding it together. But FCT wasn't willing to have the charge for the brace taken off their invoice. Even though they created the problem & even though, Steve & I agreed to it in writing via text. They left the tree in far worse condition than before they ever touched it. Andy blamed, of all things, the tree for Andy not knowing how to do the work. They wasted out time, damaged our tree and showed they do not care about the tree or the customer. Based on this & Andy's complete disregard for the health of the tree I strongly discourage anyone from using FCT. read more

I called Flower City Tree to take a look at our large green tree in front of our house (with a picture included so they could see where it was located). At first FCT was responsive and said, "Our certified arborist will come out give an estimate as to whether treated or removal is best and e-mail over the estimate with pictures for verification." Sounded great! Nine days later, they sent someone out to our house and I received a short one sentence email stating that our trees were "ornamental", they could not help us and then referred us to a different landscaping company. Not what I expected as their website states the following, "Flower City Tree guarantees that our customers come first and can count on getting precise, professional and courteous services tailored to their needs. Our ISA Certified Arborist will happily provide free estimates to business or homeowners in the Greater Rochester, New York area." My back yard in Greece had 11 trees with Emerald Ash Borer requiring removal. Several large trees hung over a power pole with a high voltage primary wire. Those trees also were a danger to the house. I interviewed 11 tree services including three that would only treat ash trees for borer. (I plan to treat 3 other trees and hope they survive.) 2 companies could not handle the job. 3 companies were 25-30% higher $ than the others. Of the 3 "finalists" with similar prices, one decided later on to withdraw for insufficient equipment. That left Flower City Tree and a well known local firm. I chose Flower CityTree based on the quality of the owner's plan to do the job, his full complement of specialized equipment, and his attention to detail in how the job would be executed and my home and lawn protected. Flower City Tree did the job extremely well, in a safe manner, using extensive lawn and home protections, and cleaned up the yard very well. They exceeded my expectations. The crew is professional, pleasant, responsive to questions and requests, and the kind of folks you feel comfortable having at your home. They had 13 pieces of equipment at my property and sent the crane back once they decided it was not needed. Two 83' lifts and efficient log removal equipment were key to this job. The office staff is efficient and responsive. Please note that there is a very damning review of this firm in a recent Yelp review. Do yourself a favor and ignore that review. That homeowner was never charged a penny although a very expensive and specialized cabling system was installed properly to try and save a severely compromised tree. But the homeowner was unwilling to recognize that. After many trips to the property Flower City Tree retrieved their property and never charged for the extensive services rendered.
