Amazing job, fellas! We had a very large tree between our house and our neighbor's, in a very precarious spot. After the last several windstorms, the tree started splitting down the trunk, leaning towards our house, so we called Birchcrest - not only were they able to come in a timely fashion, but the gentlemen that came were wonderful and so kind, were able to safely remove the tree with no damage, and even went so far as to clean up the driveway and our deck!!! We cannot say thank you enough - you all worked so hard and words simply can't express how much we appreciate you and the work you did - you saved our house from extensive damage if that tree were to come down in the next storm. Birchcrest was here Tuesday 10/14 to clear lines for Spectrum/RGE and left huge divots in my yard from their boom truck. I took pictures of the divots so I have them time stamped. Worst is they subcontract and when the other company came over they installed my deck. Around noon today (1/23/2026), a Birchcrest Tree & Landscape vehicle (INDIANA PLATE: 3871602) blew a stop sign as it was turning left onto Bonesteel off Rosecroft Drive, and the driver of this dump truck clearly never looked to the left for oncoming traffic, and almost struck me in my vehicle with my family inside. The best part, and the reason I will leave reviews just about all over, was the decrepit old white guy driving made a smug face and callously waved at us while driving a massive dump truck negligently especially with icy/snowy roads. Writing this review on behalf of my 80 year old parents who live in N.Greece, NY. They contacted Birchcrest in Aug 2022 to trim some trees in their yard. Mark M. came out, he was very nice, gave them an estimate and had them sign a contract with a deposit of one-third of the amount ($700). My parents were not in a hurry for the work to get done but asked that it be done before winter, and waited patiently to hear from Birchcrest to schedule the work. By October my parents had not heard from Birchcrest so my dad called a couple times and did not get a call back. November 2nd he was able to talk to a person, but still unable to get the work scheduled. November 28 he called again and threatened to take them to small claims court. Still no date was set. My dad filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (there are 3 other complaints on file for Birchcrest) sent a letter to the County Executive, and filed in small claims court in Gates. Last week my parents received a check in the mail from Birchcrest for their $700 deposit. The check arrived in the mail with no note or letter, just the check signed by the owner of the company. Fortunately, there are many choices in our area for getting trees trimmed, etc. This company will never be on my list for these reasons: poor customer service, poor communication, and an open-ended contract that did not state exactly when the work would be completed. The owner of the business has not responded to any of the other Yelp reviews (good or bad) in the past 3 years, which is also a bad sign. I do not recommend Birchcrest. read more

(I live in Pittsford, not San Francisco!!) Birchcrest trimmed a silver maple on our rear neighbor's property under an RGE contract. It was amazing to watch the guys climb that tree and skillfully drop large limbs that needed to be removed for proper power line clearances. Many of the branches came down onto our property. I was happy that they relocated my compost drums and several garbage cans that held mulch and topsoil, so they were not directly under the area where they dropped branches. What I was severely unhappy about was that the crew left before returning the things they moved and did not clean up the branches they dropped, or left across my lawn. I called them [right after I realized they had left] and nicely told them I expected them to return to move things back to where they were because they were too heavy for me to do it myself, but told them there was no urgency. Three weeks later, nobody has shown up. I picked up the branches and took them to the road last week because I knew the town was going to pick up lawn debris for a final time for the year. I am not a crabby old guy who is complaining about a trail of twigs that were left behind. I had multiple branches that I picked up that were taller than my 6 feet height. I estimate that the wood that was left behind was 45-50 pounds. I have hired several tree people over the years, and nobody has ever left such a mess after they left. In fact, I have complimented them for leaving my property in better shape than it was before they did their work. I cannot say the same for Birchcrest. I will NEVER consider hiring Birchcrest to do any work for me. I suggest that you do the same. Caveat emptor! read more

Very unprofessional and rude staff. I called today because two of their workers came to my house and removed a tree in my back yard by request of the town. They left huge branches and limbs everywhere and never cleaned up their mess. A have a toddler who can't even go back there and play now because it's a hazard. The limbs are too many and too big for me to move. The woman I spoke to on the phone was extremely rude and basically told me that it's my problem now and that I need to clean it up. It would've been a lot different if she would've just apologized and asked me if I could do it myself. I'm appalled at the way she spoke to me. Do yourself a favor and please go somewhere else for your landscaping needs. UPDATE They decided to call us back and basically blackmail us, saying if I take my review down they will come and clean up our yard. When I called to share my experience with them they were incredibly rude. They also cut down large limbs that weren't near the utility line. It's shocking they can get away with this shoddy service. Birchcrest was contracted by RG&E to trim back some trees behind my house in Jan of 2024. They completely destroyed 2 beautiful black oak trees. Left 30ft hulks with no branches standing there. Ran a CAT through my back yard. I have foot deep tracks running through my yard. There's a rope holding the power line still tied to my fence. They completely destroyed the landscape. We just had Birchcrest do some major tree work - this is at least the third time they have taken down some big trees and done some trimming. Many of these trees were close to the house and thus why we wanted to use a reputable firm to do this work. We had no issues. And the bonus was watching these professionals climb and take down 75' trees - quite the entertainment! In addition Birchcrest has been working to rehabilitate our lawn after another lawn care firm killed it. Everyone is very professional and gives balanced advice - it doesn't feel like they are trying to sell you services you don't need. They even have told me things I could easily do myself. They felled an approximately 50 foot tree in one piece and took out my chain link fence over 6 weeks ago. I've called several times, my son has called and I even stopped a crew working nearby. How do I give zero stars. They showed up to trim trees for RG&E. Decided to not check if my dog was in the backyard. Having a fence extender should clue them in that there could be one. When my wife saw this, she brought it up to them. They blew her off. Nice. They butchered the trees in a way that I can definitely tell they weren't happy about being there and left the branches. Quite a load too. My wife asked them if they were going to clean it up, they said yes, then left. She called the office. Was told they would take care of it but didn't know when. She asked for a little closer timetable than "sometime" and was asked by the rep "what is the damn hurry?". I'm maybe because it's supposed to be cleaned up. Nice attitudes. A very large Oak limb came down into our yard, that brought down the electric wires, creating a small fire at the base of the tree. I had just fallen back to sleep after the fire department left. When a knock on my door around 4:30-5:00 am, from a Birchcrest employee, requesting me to move my vehicle so they could get their lift/bucket vehicle back to access the tree. I am still in shock that they would have the gallf to wake a person up at that hour I was still dopey, not fully awake, so I moved my vehicle into the street. it was still pitch black out! Two individuals with saws and only helmet headlamps trimming a limb, what is wrong with them? They trimmed the end of the limb, and it was massive, 3.5 - 4 foot diameter! Needless to say these pieces were felled with no regard for location, and did I mention they did not remove them from the yard. So now they have been felled and laying in the yard, who is supposed to remove this stuff? I feel that they should have removed this debris after it was felled. Plus there are many smaller branches around the yard from this operation. The employees left large divots in my lawn from the lift/ bucket vehicle. If this company is under contract with RG&E for this type of emergency work, then RG&E needs to start vetting their contractors better and begin seeking a better provider. I will not be utilizing Birchcrest for the removal of the limb, which needs to be lifted off the neighbors garage roof, and set on the ground for further sawing and removal. My advice is to find a different "Tree Removal/Landscaping" outfit for any Arborist work you need done. read more

We have used Birchcrest for years now. We have used them every single year for various landscape and gardening needs. We never had a problem with them until this past year. We put down a deposit in October for 2022 for a large regrading and sodding project. We purposely paid for and booked with them in October so we could be one of the first on the list the beginning of May. We were promised we should be one of the first done. Well after May came and it was almost June, we began calling constantly to get scheduled. We were given almost every excuse in the book why we were being pushed down the list despite paying in October of the year prior. After calling multiple times a day for weeks, they finally agreed to "squeeze us in" at the end of June. The project included repairing a back corner of the yard that had been constantly flooding for years with rain or snow melting. The guys came out for the project and FAILED TO DO ANYTHING WITH THE BACK CORNER. As soon as the workers left, I left the sales person know that the back corner area wasn't touched at all even though it was in the contract. She insisted to me that she checked herself and all of the contract was completed. I knew this was incorrect so I waited for an itemized bill to be sent before paying anymore money. Sure enough, we were still being charge $450 for the back corner that was never touched. I called again to let them know I was being billed for project that was never completed. The sales person finally came out and looked and realized I was correct that the back corner was never touched. Instead of admitting fault and admitting they had simply forgotten or there had been a miscommunication and they would do it now, she continued to lie and said "oh this is cause we decided after the grading it wouldn't be needed and the flooding shouldn't happen now. You should be all set without it so I'll have them remove that off your bill." Well first snow melting and rainfall and it is flooding WORSE than before they ever touched our backyard. When calling them today, I'm told "nothing they can do about it and if I'm not happy with their service I can just not use them anymore." I have asked to speak to a manager multiple times and my sales person refuses to allow me to and refuses to leave the manager a message, saying the manager won't help either. I have literally given this company over 10,000 thousand dollars over the years and this is how they treat their customers. Sad to see what used to be a good company be so terrible now. read more

Company ruined 2 maple trees in my yard. Cut off branches growing towards my house and all the low branches that afford me privacy from 441 traffic. They also left their mess in my Mulch rings. They obviously knocked my mailbox off and remounted it backwards so I have to stand on 441 to get my mail. Lastly, when they came in the spring they cut the top off a tree and left it in my yard, but left the rest of the tree stuck in the power lines. I called the company and they said someone would come out that day. At the end of the day i had to call them for excuses about no one able to answer the phone because their supervisor was running the chipper all day. 2 days later they called me at 7:30am on my day off to tell me they are in the right and to call RGE. I called in from Boston, for my senior parents. My dad has always been a DIY guy, especially with tree and landscaping work. But I didn't want him attempting this. A large branch had recently fell, and the rest of a large tree was making noises. I made several calls, receiving voicemails. No call backs. After a recommendation from a friend, I called Birchcrest. They were out to inspect next day because of my worries. They were booked out three weeks, but the owner fit this job into his schedule as an emergency because of the situation! A day later, my mom called in tears about how happy she was! They were on site taking it down. Despite requesting a heads-up when they would be coming through (so that I could bring my dog inside), there was no forewarning. The workers climbed through a wire fence in my backyard, damaging the fence with little respect for my property. I went outside and asked about this; they did their best to fix it upon asking but seemed reluctant to admit the damage. Unnecessarily Destructive & Dangerous! Subcontracted them through RGE for a what was to be a mere tree limb removal hanging over 5 live power lines. RGE declared it to be an emergency limb removal and that the power to be "killed" to the entire street during the operation. They came through the property of a neighbor whom we had not yet met They hopped the fence to get to my tree limb and knocked down the ENTIRE TREE leaving the ENTIRE tree felled and laying in a path. Huge trunks, some sections over 14 feet long and over 12" in diameter. In the course of 20 minutes they destroyed a woodland garden that's taken over 9 years to cultivate. This garden of mine was a labor of love consisting of rare plants that cannot be purchased easily and only obtained by swap rare plants with other plant nerds. This company representative explained away the damage as "I bet they didn't know plants were there" which is hard to believe from a landscape company. They felled this tree WITH ALL THE WIRES LIVE and the power ON! They left a tree in full leaf sitting in my path and snuck on the properties unannounced from another street even though NO Trespassing signs are posted. They left the gates unsecured and open risking the escape of the neighbors' small dog. They didn't knock or call or let these side street neighbors know what was happening, asked permission or made aware of the intrusion until debris was left and gates opened. In the past 2days, they have neither addressed any of these issues nor cut/removed debris or acknowledged that the killed garden plants were ground into the ground They were incredibly unprofessional. I will state my experience with Birchcrest every time I'm asked my opinion as This is also the 2nd time they've done this. The last time RGE sent them out for downed live wires from fallen vine covered trees, they chopped the trees / vines down and left the piles in the busy road In front of my and 2 other houses. This time an insurance claim has been filed agains them by two households who didn't even know eachother until Birchcrest ravaged over 9 years of care in 20 minutes, risked fire, trashed two yards, left an entire tree (not manageably cut) of debris that is still crushing even more plants because it's been just laying there unattended since Their destructive visit. I Loathe the attitude I received When I called them. Without hearing my story or seeing pictures the lady who wasn't there explained that they probab didn't know my garden was there and that they didn't have to do anything properly -- I had to use the analogy that if they broke a window and they didn't know it was broken, it doesn't mean they didn't break the window. Birchcrest butchered one of our maples. It was a beautiful symmetrical tree until they "trimmed" it. We have another tree service here now to try to even it up but it will never be a pretty as it once was. I should have read these reviews first. Obviously, most of their business comes from RG&E and their focus is removing limbs that may interfere with power lines. They clearly don't care about the tree's appearance when they are done - you can see that if you drive around Brighton. They go way overboard in cutting away limbs. This tree was not interfering with power lines, we hired Birchcrest ourselves. I didn't complain - the damage was done and I didn't want them to come back. They were doing routine tree trimming for RG&E. They continued to drop tree limbs on my cable tv service wire even after it came down so it was less than five feet from the ground. When I went out to talk to the foreman it was like he could care less. The guy had a straw in his mouth and never took it out when he talked to me. Later he came to the door told me someone would fix it the next day. The next day a telephone repairman was there but no one from Spectrum. I don't think he knew the difference between cable tv and telephone lines. I called Spectrum and they fixed it. I retired from RG&E and when I worked with tree crews they didn't do stuff like that. Just hired Birchcrest to replace the mulch in our front beds in the yard with #2 crushed stone and they did a fabulous job. They also installed a nice stone that we chose to use for the edging and it looks very sharp. Their price was good too and they showed up when they said they would. I've upgraded my review to two stars. Birchcrest did get the job done. The guy who wrote up the quote was on time and professional. He said it would be about 4 weeks - which I can understand with the summer rush. Turned out to be 6 1/2 weeks with a few phone calls. Be sure the written quote says everything you want done. What the estimator says does not make its way to the work orders. Be available to help the crew "interpret" the work order. I can't tell what is going on in the Birchcrest office. Planning and follow through are not their strengths. Maybe it's in the office. Maybe it's the crews. I can't tell. A week after the tree was cut down, they didn't seem to know there was still a pile of wood in my yard. Took a bit of cajoling to get them out to cut the tree. Then more than a week and more cajoling to get them out to cart (literally) the pieces away. Once you can get the crew onsite, they do a good job. My advice, know what you want and don't accept anything less. E.g. I refused to let them use a bobcat to haul out the wood. Why would they think that was a good idea for residential property? In the end, they sent one guy with a cart. I feel sorry for him but he hustled. They couldn't have spared two guys? All in all, I got my money's worth (haven't seen the final invoice) but a frustrating and disappointing experience with a company I would expect to have this down to a science. read more

While it took 3 weeks to have Brad come to estimate a lawn landscaping fix for areas needing topsoil and seeding, he came at exact appointment time, looked over the situation & wrote up estimate on the spot before he left. He said it might be 2-3 weeks before it could be completed. We thought the estimate was fair, completed the contract & returned it for scheduling. Six days later, they called and said three workmen would be here tomorrow morning @ 8:30. Sure enough, at 8:30, two trucks with topsoil pulled up, they went right to work spreading topsoil (rolled by wheelbarrow) in the front and back yard, seeded & fertilized all the areas of concern, and then some! They also seeded area effected by the wheelbarrows tracks, and cleaned areas in the driveway where the dirt was transferred to the wheelbarrows. I realize I have to water the lawn regularity for successful project, but I am very pleased with Birchcrest's work so far. Brad also provided an estimate for lawn fertilizer service next season (at my request) which I am considering. I recommend folks considering similar projects to give them a call. read more

Birchcrest has been my tree service company since 2016. They have provided emerald ash borer treatments, tree removal and new tree plantings in the past. I've found the employees to be hard working and knowledgeable. They take pride in a job well done. read more

Prior to today's incident 11/18/19 Birchcrest has been on my property multiple times to "trim back" trees along power lines. Every time I've had to call and complain because they always do a half ass job. Leaving excessive amounts of sticks and debris in the lawn. They once tried putting a truck in my backyard without my approval and left big ruts that I had to have filled back in when Birchcrest denied the damage. Today 11/18/19 they were on my property without any prior notification from the tree company or RGE. The tree they were removing was not even on my property. They again left a pile of sticks all over my backyard. I called the office multiple times for them to get off my property or it will not end pretty. They still went ahead and did the work and left a mess. Because they did not want a "confrontation in the field" The Manager on the phone, basically made blame to RGE and that the communication error is my fault. Horrible customer service and no urgency to resolve the issue. RGE has been notified that this company is no longer allowed on my property. Morale of the story Birchcrest has the RGE contract and the horrible service they do for the contract. I would never allow them on my property to do tree work and would advise you to find another company. read more

I ordered two face cords of fire wood from Birchcrest Tree & Landscape through Craigslist. The ad stated that the firewood had been "Seasoned at least 7 months". I measured the moisture content of the Red Oak to be above 72%. Freshly cut Oak is approximately 80%. Firewood that is safe to burn is at most 25% and 15-20% is better. One phone call went unanswered. The second time I called they offered to take the wood back. I measured moisture content using the procedure specified by ASTM and U.S. Forest Products Lab. Wet wood is unsafe to burn due to creosote deposition in chimneys. read more

Destroyed some antennas on my property despite the antennas being pointed out to them, leaving debris all over , Then for an encore later that block a road with one of their trucks with no way to get around it or any way to signal the clown who was wearing earmuffs and running a chainsaw that I was blocked in. Birchcrest was hired by RGE to do some trimming in the woods adjacent to my property. They needed to access my lawn to get to them. It was a disaster, their machinery destroyed my lawn not to mention the mess they left. I called them and spoke to a pleasant lady there and she assured me that they would be back to clean and fix my lawn. They came back alright, to do more damage. We didn't even request there services but they had to cut some branches down near power lines in our back yard. Assuming RG&E had them do it. Got home from work today and they destroyed our back yard. Tore fencing down and didn't replace it, cut things down that were nowhere near power lines and were part of our garden, destroyed and broke a rock garden we had and just piled all the stuff up and left everything in the back yard everywhere. Beyond pissed off at the company and they should be ashamed of themselves. I'd honestly like to go over to all of there homes when they are at work at destroy there things. read more
