I grew up going with my mom to Flowerland, but she always called it Fruit Basket, which is what it used to be named (among other things over the years). The website has some great history of the business as well as some fun historic photos. Nate and I stopped in recently to check out their planters and hanging baskets and were happily surprised to see that the hanging baskets were on sale. We paid about $50 for two, which is what we paid for one (larger) basket at another local greenhouse recently. The store is full of everything you could ever need for gardening and landscaping. They have so many plants and flowers! I wish they had some better signage / information as we had to ask which items would be best for shade vs sun etc. I have seen other greenhouses that indicate which plants are native and other information that's helpful. We were only there for a short visit so I didn't explore too much. They have a lot of patio furniture here as well, and looked like some sales going on. When we're in the market for new outdoor furniture, this will be my first stop. There is a handy checkout outside near the garden center. I went to the store on Alpine and I was treated so rudely by one of their staff. I was in their outdoor garden area and swapping pansies from a six pack tray that was on clearance. Some of them were very floppy and it was just 2 plants. One of their employees approached me & said, "We don't do that around here! It would be like u going to buy a loaf of bread, opening it up and picking out the pieces u want!" Really? Are u kidding me? I was going to buy a bunch of fall plants and pumpkins, but I was so offended by that comment that I just walked out of the store without buying anything. They just lost a customer and I will never stop in there again!! read more

I went for advice on a tree of mine that has a fungus per the employee at Flowerland. She was very knowledgeable and recommended Bioadvanced Disease Control for Roses Flowers and Shrubs - concentrate. It was $32.99. I almost bought it. I decided to check Home Depot. The exact product is $12.59. Needless to say, I bought it from Home Depot. It's amazing they stay in business. read more

Good selection, decent prices. Horrible service staff. In the short time we were there we asked simple questions to 2 different staff members. Both replied with snarky answers and then proceeded to ignore us. We also witnessed a customer being yelled at from across the store. Not sure what that was about but it seemed the customer was simply asking for assistance. We will never go back. I'd rather drive further and possibly pay more than be treated like an inconvenience. I received a garden gazing ball for Mother's Day. By early July the gazing ball somehow lost its beautiful turquoise color. My husband recycled its box and despite this I took the ball back in August. The check out employee was shocked to see the ball and its pale almost see thru color. The apparent "manager" said...."Our return policy is one month. If you bought that last year, there's no way you can return that now." The check out lane gal defended me and reported I got it as a gift in May. It looked a year+ old. The manager then went on to say they knew about the color loss and still sold this product. In fact she bragged about how they put them on discount when the colors started to fade at 75% off! She was pleased with this ability to take advantage of their buyers. So disappointing with no offer of exchange or refund or anything. Not even an apology, much to the dismay of the check out employee...she was embarrassed. I have spent 20 years enjoying my buying experiences at Flowerland. I will find other locations to shop where I am appreciated as a buyer. read more

I went in to find a little fence for my mom's yard and I found the fences and they had different prices some were on the item and some were on the shelf I wanted to make sure of which price was correct so I went to the desk the lady was helping someone so I was waiting in line another employee walked by and the lady said to him help this gentleman next in line so I walked to the fences and asked what is the correct price because I wanted to buy 5 of them he proceeded to say to me you can't read I was shocked and said what did you say he said again you can't read yes I can read and said wow and just walked away because I was getting ready to knock the you know what out of KAREN but then I would wrong so I went and talked to a manager she said she would talk to him but I don't think she was really interested in what I said but I could be wrong there is no place for this at all read more

I had such a great time with my mom at flowerland. We were helped by a man named Dave. He was very nice and informative. Flowerland has a great selection of Christmas trees alive and fake, for tge holiday season. There were so many on display. I posted some photos that were decorated and some undecorated. Tgey have lights, ornaments, snowglobes and reindeers. The night we were there, they were having some sort of a Christmas party. The aisles were spacious. Items were easy to find, and a warm welcome of coffee when you first come in. One of my favorite things on display besides the trees were the chimes. They were so many, so beautiful with the music they made. They also have an outside area and a back room area with my plants and cacti. I would make an effort to stop in and look! read more

High prices, but an impressively expansive selection and friendly staff. If you can't find the what you need at the big box stores, you can probably find it here. I do like the fact that if you have a brown thumb and kill your tree or shrub, they will credit you 50% of your purchase toward your next purchase as long as you bring in your dead plant. Not a terrible deal. I would say that for standard purchases, check your local big store like Lowe's or Meijer where you will find the stuff at 30-50% of the Flowerland cost. For the less commonly found items, Flowerland is a great option. read more

I could honestly say I could stay in this store ALL day! They have everything that you would need when it comes to gardening or eben indoor plants. They also have trees, bushes outdoor flowers, patio furniture, pots, soil, starter seeds and starter plants...and anything you would want to get someone as a gift! Im so impressed by their selection each year! My only issue is the seasonal staff could use better training. They have a hard time answering some questions if its one above one thats basic. Very disappointed to find that this year most of their annual plants don't have care tags or even name identification. No way of knowing light requirement, height, color or care information. The best advice an employee could give me was "Google it". Looking at purchasing 20-30 plants and don't have time to Google every one. read more

I took my son to get a holiday Christmas tree on December the 1st 2019. We went to Home Depot on 257 54th St SW, Wyoming, MI 49548. The experience was horrible. Listen it snowed the day before - I get it. But what a terrible experience to bring a kid into when the trees are covered in snow, no one is working, and the holiday spirit is just lost. So I go Flowerland and the what the opposite. Friendly staff, store covered in holiday joy, people smiling, and they take care of the trees as they are in a covered area. I bought my tree and we are taking mom back later today to buy additional holiday items. Thanks again Flowerland - you saved Christmas and made a client for life! read more

This place has been around forever and is a really fun stop to get all your garden and outdoor needs. They have a lot of interior decor inside that changes seasonally and is a wonderful stop during the holidays for special items. Keep your eyes peeled for the resident cat... my two year old loves to find him and say hello! read more

I went to Flowerland this week because it's close to my house and I needed mulch and some grass seed. I grabbed a sanitized cart and did my shopping with a mask on. During my trip I noticed multiple employees with blue Flowerland shirts on without a mask. Isn't this a requirement for all businesses now? I was disheartened, but grateful that most employees were indeed wearing masks. I picked up a little stick to purchase the mulch then drive through the loading area and have someone load it into my car. When I pulled into the loading area I was ignored for probably 2+ minutes by 2 employees who were chatting right by where I stopped and rolled down my window to give them my loading slip. When they finally acknowledged me, I asked where I should park to have mulch loaded and one of the employees responded with, "or you could just load it yourself." Isn't this the exact purpose of this area? There were at least 4 employees standing around here, obviously with the sole purpose of loading the heavy stuff into cars, so why the attitude? Anyway, I just wanted to give a heads up so people know what they are getting into. read more

Their area for houseplants was somewhat small, but they had a great selection and even had a plant I've been looking for for quite some time at a super reasonable price. They have an awesome assortment of pots and unlike some nurseries, most of them were very reasonably priced. Highly recommend. read more

I came here to see about a Christmas tree and I gotta say they had some of the nicest, freshest trees I've seen. I picked out a great tree and couldn't be happier. On Sept 3, I went to the Kentwood store to return a Buttonbush shrub, purchased on June 2, 2020. The shrub had lost all of its leaves and was obviously beyond recovery. The cashier called over a person who I assume was a manager to get approval for the return. The manager immediately took out a pocket knife and scraped a bit of bark off the main stem. When it showed a bit of green, she stated that the shrub "wasn't really dead". She then asked me about the type of soil I had planted it in, the amount of sunlight it got, and how much water I gave it. It seemed that her goal was to blame me for the condition of the plant. When I answered each of her questions with a response that didn't indicate poor gardening practices, she reluctantly approved the return. To my surprise, the return policy is to get 50% back on an in-store credit. (Shame on me for not reading the fine print.) The owner, Rick Vuyst, needs to realize that being Dutch (which I am) should not be how you treat your customers. I was a Flowerland customer for over 40 years, but no more. read more
