So. My dad received care here, that I was less than thrilled about. Now, my mom is receiving sub par care here also. She was in patient for 20 hours prior to getting any nourishment. And no, it's not because she had any procedures pending. I called to speak to her care team, which they failed to speak to me or call me back and admitted to throwing my number away. I have her medical power of attorney, which they have on file. She had been in patient for seven days, and had yet to have any bathing services and had not had dental cleaning (ie brushing of teeth) in over four days. If this was a provider that was in home or a family member, this would be considered neglect and criminal. So not let your loved ones get "care" at this facility or at affiliated doctors. . read more

place is absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. Waiting in a hospital for over 10 hours and still not being seen, makes no sense. Then I reported to the staff that there was blood all over the tissue holder in the women's bathroom, and nothing was done about it. Nobody cleaned in the lobby through the entire time we was here, and yet there's trash all over the floor and the chairs not wiped down at all. Germs spread, yet this is the most unclean er I've ever been in. It's not like the staff is trained on preventing germs and infections from spreading. I've worked in several hospitals and health care facilities, and this is by far the absolute worst I've been to. Do better or tear this place down and start over with some new staff that actually cares about the facility and most importantly the patients, instead of treating them disrespectfully because they feel over worked or annoyed with patients, you know the ones who keeps the doors opened, all because they are sick or in pain and has been sitting here for hours in a nasty dirty waiting room. Don't ever go there if your baby has an emergency. The fact that Dothan does not have a children's hospital or any kind of pediatric surgeons should make anyone with children leave this place immediately. Within 1 hour of my grandson arriving, they knew he had a bowel obstruction and needed emergency surgery. They said he would have to be evacuated by helicopter to either Birmingham or Mobile. Tissue death happens within 6 hours apparently and the helicopter did not arrive until 7 hours later and still took another 2 hours to get him on the flight. The next day we were planning his memorial service. Delay of care from the first hour. The ER department at Flowers had no idea what to do with a 3 week old and the pain and suffering is unbearable! Stay far away from this horrible hospital and the med evac company they used! read more

I would of given five star but one of the nurses just did not deserve that (Jim). My father at age 96 suffered a terrible fall. The nurses and Dr. Located at 4th floor north were outstanding. My father passed away July 8-25 after approx 7 days. Nurse Molly is without question the best. She is caring and empathetic, she always smiles. Nurse Delta was also outstanding. Nurse Molly and the Dr that attended to my father were instrumental on helping my father get the very best treatment and helped guide myself and my family thru the worst of times. Dr Khalil was assigned to my husband when he went to Flowers with a heart attack. He had an emergency so they said it would be the next day before my husband had his heart cath. I gave the nurses my number three times and they assured me they would call when he went to surgery and the doctor would call after surgery. My husband told me to go home and come back in the morning before his heart cath, so I did. My husband apparently took a turn for the worse and had to be taken down for a heart Cath and a stent. No one notified me. My husband called to say he was out of surgery, and everything was fine. I was livid. I thought it couldn't get any worse, but I was wrong. He is obviously, not a fan of women. If you ask him questions, he speaks to you like you are ignorant and have no right to ask about your husband's health. He does not follow through with anything. His nurse said she was calling my husband's medications into the VA pharmacy in Montgomery, three weeks later and we're still waiting. Brilinta side effects clearly say they cause tiredness. When my husband ask would it always make him tired, he said "it doesn't make you tired: you're tired because you had a heart attack." I was so disrespected that I got up and left the room. As I was walking out, I said that is the worse doctor I have ever seen, and I hope he dies. Not my finest moment but I was done with the blatant disrespect. He told my husband I was banned because I threatened to kill everyone there. I told my husband exactly what I said, and he said the doctor banned me because I threatened to kill him. I said good because I wouldn't go back to that office and be treated so disrespectful. The office staff is incompetent and couldn't even get us signed in until 30 minutes after our appointment because the guy didn't know what he was doing and just put the paperwork in a stack of lab work. He was just "helping" while the receptionist went to the restroom. The first thing she did was complain about Dr. Khalil not signing paperwork and wondering why they were backed up. She was sick and snotting everywhere. There was a sign that said if you're sick please wear a mask, but she didn't. The only redeeming factor was the nurse. Although hospital emergency rooms lure people in with promise of relief, they are actually torture chambers where victims are made to sit for countless hours in miserable condition. The staff members are so desensitized to an endless stream of people in physical and mental distress that it is unreasonable for to expect anything more than long long senseless hours of more pain with an underlying current of simmering frustration until they are once again able to escape. After suffering indignities and long hours of suffering my loved one was left hanging for an extra hour and a half AFTER his discharge papers were ready, and he was forgotten and left unattended and miserable with pain meds wearing off. My daughter was taken to the emergency room on Wednesday around lunch with Kidney stones in both kidneys. The emergency room staff were horrible. Worst care I have ever witnessed. After hours of waiting there she finally received pain medication after I stopped someone in the hall. The staff was too busy eating boiled peanuts and popcorn. We were there in the ER for 10 hours. A male nurse came by to give her more pain medication. He did not speak or acknowledge my daughter. He was frustrated and made the comment that he would never leave this place tonight. We were told as soon as a room was available we will get you ready for surgery. Waited another 2 hours and an orderly with a wheel chair came in and said are you ready to roll? We were placed in a small room 434 and not surgery. (No communication whatsoever). Long story short seems there was no treatment plan whatsoever. We were there for 2 more days before she had surgery. The culture and care Is just not there in the hospital . Nothing to eat for almost 2 days, Finally went back for surgery around 11am on Friday. While back there someone noticed her admission band was incorrect and replaced with an updated one. We were visited by ER staff due to the complaints 2 days later. Was promised a visit from the director but that never happened. I would advise to avoid this hospital at all cost. I will be seeing the director of this hospital and voice all my concerns because I would never want anyone to receive the same treatment!!!! read more

My 98-year-old grandmother had a bad fall, and the ambulance brought her to Flowers. After going to the ER, they moved her to the 5th floor for the remainder of her stay. She was there for 13 days. During her time on the 5th floor, my grandmother was attended to by 2 different doctors (both who seemed nice and knowledgeable) and many different nurses, techs, OT/PT professionals. While there were a handful of people who were great to work with (namely Michelle [sp?]), the number of bad experiences that we had overrode that. My grandmother's IV would go off, and we would ask the nurses to check it out, and we wouldn't get anyone to do so for over an hour each time. My grandmother wasn't moved regularly to prevent bedsores. We told them she had a BM in bed, and they took hours to come, so she was sitting in a dirty diaper. They dismissed my mother when she said that one of my grandmother's arms looked wrong (turns out she had a BLOOD CLOT, but no big deal apparently). There were several rude nurses who looked at you like you were inconveniencing them anytime you asked them for help. I saw firsthand the terrible looks that nurse Belinda would give my mother whenever she asked a question. They never brushed her teeth (my mother did it for her). I think she was bathed MAYBE 2 times in 13 days. I worry for anyone who doesn't have family staying by their side to help, because they are probably left in horrid conditions without anyone holding them accountable. The doctor said that my grandmother needed to go to a nursing home facility due to her pelvic fractures and dementia, so we needed a case worker to help. Fatima told my family she would give them an update by the end of the day on a Friday, and that never happened. She just left without a word. Apparently it was too much to run by and tell us that it's taking longer and she'd give us an update the next week. Instead, my mother had to spend most every day waiting at the hospital in hopes that the case worker would make an appearance. She would ask the nurses to find her, but she was always busy or had already left. We ended up calling the nursing homes ourselves, and that was how we got initial updates. Ultimately we were unable to find a bed for my grandmother, so chose a combination of hospice and sitters so that we could bring my grandmother back to her home instead of in a nursing home an hour away. They ended up discharging her and setting her up with an ambulance to pick her up at 8PM. Can you imagine being a 98-year-old woman with severe dementia that gets worse at night being transported from a hospital at that time of day? To make matters worse, the original plan was to give her morphine for the transfer so that she would not experience the excruciating pain of being moved from place to place. Instead, the nurse came in and gave her 1 narco pill! My mother was extremely concerned because that was not the plan that had been discussed, so clearly there were some crossed wires with the orders. My mother pushed back on this, and the nurse just said, "that's not what the orders say," and walked out of the room. Didn't try to contact the doctor, didn't try to inquire further, nothing. My mother then went out to the nurses station to ask for help. As my mom is near tears with concern about her elderly mother, the nurse stood up, went to talk to a couple of other staff, and then just walked past my mother and into another patient's room. She was absolutely dumbfounded and devastated that someone who is supposed to care for patients would do something like this. She loudly said, "Do you not have any compassion?" And she continued to ignore my mother. Thankfully, another nurse on staff saw my mother in TEARS and asked what was going on, and my mother explained the situation. He was able to help, and thankfully my grandmother was able to get the medication she needed for a peaceful transfer. The whole situation could have been avoided had the first nurse even tried to escalate the situation--but apparently it wasn't worth her time. read more

I came in on an ambulance from Enterprise VA clinic. Perhaps the 3 doctors from the VA got it wrong. Humm. Blood pressure 210 over 111. The yahoo Er.doctor Released me, 4hours later. Obvious the day tour nurse was surprised. I was given 4 different medications to stabilize my blood pressure. Protocol in any hospital in the United states of America, keep the patient over night for observation. The story is not all negative. I met a few wonderful people at this location.. Nurse Nicky thank you. You actually showed compassion. More to this story. Ie. Documents missing. Needless to say, I will have to be COMPLETELY flatline B4 entering that hospital. read more

I was admitted to Flowers on 8/29/2025 with symptoms of SEPSIS or something similar to it. After dozens of blood tests and other proceedures, this hospital determined that I DID NOT have Sepsis but they could not identify what I actually did have. While in bed for 8 days, I was practically on my own because no one seemed to bother with me unless I called for help. One doctor, among several, came into my room and asked me how I felt. I told him I did not feel any better then when I was admitted. He said he was putting me on a liquid diet for a few days. It was over 36 hours before I got my first liquid meal. When he put me back on regular food, it was a day and a half before any food was delivered to my room. After all the test, medications and everything else they could think of, I was still sick and could barely move on my own. If it hadn't been for my wife, I would not even have had a tooth brush or bath. The majority of the staff just didn't seem to care one way or another and a few were even rude and made me feel like I was an interruption of their time. I am 87 years old and retired military so I have Medicare and Tricare for life. They billed my Tricare for over $115,000 and when I was discharged on 9/6/2025, (eight days later) I didn't feel any better than when I went in and they could not tell me what was wrong with me. If you or anyone you know that has to go to the hospital, it would be wise to look elsewhere because the treatment at Flowers is terrible to say the least. In my honest opinion, I believe the only thing their good at is billing. read more

I have been coming to Flowers for many many years. I have a chronic condition that is extremely painful. I have driven hours just to go be admitted there, because they have always taken good care of me. That has changed. I have been to the ER three times this week with excruciating pain. They barely gave me any pain meds. And even when they did, they took me off dilaudid (the pain killer I have received for my chronic pain at every hospital I've ever been, which is a lot), and then put me on hydrocodone 10. Even the times they did give me dilaudid, it wasn't 100% effective. That's how much pain I was in. The last time there, they gave me one shot of dilaudid. Two hours later gave me an nsaid shot. Then a pill. One reason they give dilaudid is because my condition requires NPO. Nothing by mouth. I'm also allergic to morphine. Went and saw my gastro today. From the same scans and bloodwork, my gastro doc said I was having my regular attack, plus I had another condition attacking at the same moment. I felt ignored and abandoned. The last room didn't even have a call button. Yet, no one would come check on me without us going to desk and asking. And even then, didn't always get a response. One nurse was extremely rude to wife, who is a nurse herself. I will never voluntarily go to Flowers Hospital ever again. read more

From March 27 to March 30,2024 We had a very eye opening experience into this facility and the lack of communication, experience and capabilities! From the ER all the way to the fourth floor there was a huge lack of communication, knowledge and capability. We arrived to our room and no one knew who we were and why we were there! No one let them know we were coming! That is a huge disconnect and I actually felt really bad for Nurse Shaun, they did her a disservice and made her job harder by forcing her to fly blind! When you have 2 shifts for over 3 days and not one person on that floor can take a manual blood pressure reading you know you're in trouble! If you must go there make sure you have someone with you at all times to advocate for you! Ask questions! Question everything!!! From lab work, X-rays, medication, ask to see the Doctor's orders! Make sure your doctor has sent orders!!! Ours did not until almost 10 hours after my mother was admitted so the nurses could not give her the heart and thyroid medication she needed and she missed a dose. Make them come in and clean, bathe and change sheets and gowns! We had to do everything for our mother and thank God we brought our own blood pressure machine because the one they had didn't work most of the time! We don't go to the hospital to have drinks served and that is pretty much the extent of care my mother was given! I will say Mary in the ER was wonderful in helping us to get to our floor after 6 hours in the ER. Also Denise the nurse practitioner was amazing she came in and was not happy because none of her orders were followed and she walked the nurses down and had them weigh my mother in front of her and put the catch pan in the bedside toilet to measure output! Those orders were in by day 1 and were only followed when she took them by the hand and made them do it! The rest of the staff were friendly and polite but that doesn't equate care! I also want to say her night shift nurse Shaun was so kind and made my mother feel very comfortable and like a friend of the family! Shaun tried to get her weight and the equipment failed. We didn't have to go to the nurses station at night for anything because Shaun came in often and checked on my mother whereas during the day we might not see anyone for a couple of hours so many trips were made and we prayed it wouldn't be the secretary at the desk because she acted like she couldn't be bothered to even acknowledge our presence in front of her! There was a lot of equipment in that hospital that was defective. Also the thermostat in our room didn't work and the room was like the arctic! My Mom had to have 8 yes 8 blankets and could barely move her feet from the weight! During our stay we heard raised voices outside our door and it was the family of the patient beside us who was a fall risk and on oxygen and the family was demanding to know why he was up walking around in his room alone with no oxygen and none of the staff knew when there is an alarm on the bed that alerts you when the weight is removed from the bed! I'm sure this is not an isolated case and happens regularly because none of the staff was phased by anything that was brought to their attention. I would not recommend this facility to anyone! read more

Visited the ER with a laceration and it took over 3 hours just to be seen by the physician and almost another hour before an X-ray was performed after being ordered! There is a man named Dr. Marsella that was extremely rude and uncompassionate to my husband. Granted this man may have a medical degree but he lacks any kind of decent bedside manner. My husband was in need of help and this man berated him instead and refused to help him. (And another Dr.there at Flowers spoke with Dr. Marsella about my husband and referred him to Dr. Marsella). My husband was deeply offended, hurt, and angry after this visit. This man with all this medical knowledge in his head but no heart. What an extreme disappointment we had that day. Here is a heads up for anyone who is handicapped, wheelchair bound, and in chronic pain, our best advice to you: save your money, time, and dignity and find another doctor. I went in in the AM for swollen prostate, urinating and digestive issue with extreme dizziness. nurse was rude and short. missed my vein for hydration bag. swelled up and disconnected with no attempt to replace. no food or dehydration all day. was there all day with only 1 test and sent home with a weak 10 day antibioti just to suffer at home again. no I did not have insurance, but I have a great job, drive a nice truck, and had 3g on me to cover the bill. they did not know this and I was poorly taken care of. now back where I was before I went, with a substantial bill to boot. I am back at the point that I need medical attention and it's been a rough 12 hours since leaving ER. the worst trip to any hospital I've ever had. read more

I had an ER doc be super misogynistic and a creep to me today. He wouldn't stop commenting on my long nails. i was there for an dog bite infection on my hand. He asked me why my nails were so long and i said "I don't know I just like them that way" and he just went ".....that's interesting." And then when i was away from my dad, who was with me, he kept asking me if my 'husband made me keep them long'. I'm 18. Then he asked if my 'dad preferred them long'. That's so unbelievably creepy and I don't know what he was implying. I was so uncomfortable. Then he suggested I get a manicure because "I might like it." This same doctor also addressed my dad instead of me, the patient. He also told us that dog bites "don't really get infected", which is absolutely false. I'm never going back here again. read more

I went in to check my hip for a possible fracture from a fall. The MINUTE I mentioned I have an NSAID allergy the treatment turned a jaded corner. I was placed in a room and given no pain care, despite informing them pain level was at a 7 or 8. When taken for xrays, the technician raced down the halls oblivious to my obvious discomfort in walking behind her, with a hip injury. The xray table is hard, metal and I was asked to climb onto it. During one of 6 Xrays I was told to put my hand beside me and I gripped the table as I was in pain from the positioning. When she moved the table I was lying on she pinched my fingertips between the metal bed and something metal beneath. It felt like I slammed my fingertips in a car door. I'm sure I woke the morgue yelping. We finished the xrays with me sobbing and then I was FINALLY offered a wheelchair to return to the room. After she told the nurse what happened I was then given a small dose of pain meds and an xray was done of my fingertips, which are still numb and swollen. The PA on duty was cold and dismissive the entire time and merely told me my scans were clear. I was not told the diagnosis of a level 2 hip sprain and back injury, they were on my discharge papers. I was not given aftercare instructions, aside from the discharge paperwork and the entire staff aside from the lady checking me in acted like they could NOTcare less and treated me like a drug seeking junkie. Your hospital gives sub-par care and next time I will make the 2 hour drive elsewhere. I will also be getting an outside opinion on my fingers because I do not believe they arent injured. read more

I've had to bring my wife to the Flowers Outpatient Center several times and every time she's scheduled for a procedure it's hours before she's even seen. Today for example she had a show time of 10:00 am, I receive a phone call at 13:47 that she is just now being taken back for her procedure. It's the same damn story every time 4 or more hours of waiting and sitting around while this poorly managed hospital tries to figure out how to care for their patients in a timely manner. Pray to god you're not dying and need to come to this hospital, you surly will not survive. As a US service member I've been to and seen many hospitals across the nation in my 20 years of PCS moves... Charged for money I didn't owe out of pocket and gave Insurance information and still being billed and Flowers Hospital want return my money to me! I contacted Flowers Hospital's billing office at 335-793-5000 ext: 1168 and spoke with Becky on 9/12/2019 at 10:17a.m. and again on 9/25/2019 at 9:40a.m. On 10/08/2019 I spoke with Ashley at 9:20a.m. and 10/23/2019 at 1:47p.m, on 11/5/2019 at 2:14p.m, on 11/19/2019 at 3:01 p.m, and on 12/04/2019, and on 12/6/2019 And unfortunately speaking with Ill-mannered Ashley again at 2:40p.m. I also spoke with Ms. Linda who was very respectful on 12/6/2019 at 2:50.pm. And also the rude Becky on the same day at 2:51p.m. Ashley claimed I never gave her my insurance information to be billed when I had in fact given her the information. It was the reason for so many calls to billing, making sure they had my correct information but they continued to claim that they never received it; which is so untrue. They have information on both of my insurances for my billing purpose and to refund me back the $120.00 I paid once they contacted my Medicaid to pay the $150.00 co-pay as I was told by Medicaid and by Ashley in Flower's Hospital's billing office on 9/25/2019. They don't want to do their job by putting the claim through but want to take my money! The one hundred and twenty dollars for a different date and bill that they took and place with another date that my insurance is to cover, I was never to pay the $120.00 because my insurance covers it and now they refuse to refund me my money which is illegal. I want it back even if I have to go to court. I've tried talking to these people. I can't believe the nasty ill-mannered attitudes that they have while working at a hospital. I experienced their ill-mannered, and very bad behavior myself. It was a rude awakening for me. Flowers Hospital workers impertinent behavior towards me was very inappropriate and sadly unbecoming. Ashley, Becky and Cammie's, in the administrator's office, abruptness was offensively impolite. Ashley and Cammie were brusque with speaking to me. Cammie was being contumelious while I was trying to ask a question concerning my money. These people had no incentive towards being professional. They were hasty with their judgement and out of order with their bad manners. They did not conduct themselves with full professionalism. Their behavior was startling to me. It is dreadful to think that these are the people that work in a hospital, over people's lives and have all our personal information. My dad is sitting there, he is bleeding out. First he waited almost all day waiting in the waiting room. Even though he should've been rushed into to room. He finally got back into a room. But there taking hours for them to do a scope. It's also a very dirty hospital. If I could give zero stars I would. I went to the ER for severe flank / kidney pain, waited 8+ hours without seeing a provider ONCE. I was in excruciating pain, and no one came in to check on me, offer meds, water until a nurse came in with discharge paperwork's and removed my IV. The nurse said it was "most likely" a UTI but turned out to have a kidney infection. Most incompetent staff & hospital I have ever seen. read more

I arrived today at 8am to check in for L&D to get my shot before my c-section Thursday. After the young lady talked on her cell phone for 10 min she finally put me in the system and advised me to sit in the waiting room.
