My instructor is Andy Luk and he is the worst instructor ever. He is irascible, temperamental and unprofessional. He will constantly nitpick and complain about every mistake you do when you drive. He rarely gives any constructive criticism and compare you as a student with his other successful students to belittle you. Whenever you do a mistake, he will constantly yell that you are going to fail in the road test. He even told me today that I should drop the driving lessons since he felt that I did not reach to his expectative. For everybody that wants to learn how to drive, DO NOT PICK ANDY LUK as your instructor, he will be a pain in the ass and make you stress like crazy. read more

I found Flushing Auto Driving school to be a very straightforward business and suited my needs. This was my second driving school and I passed because they gave me the driving practice I needed. The teachers were extremely patient and gave directions like the inspector would. Every lesson was like a mock test. If I forgot to signal or forgot to check the blind spot, the instructor will remind me. I found the instruction to be a good supplement to the instruction at my first driving school. Their prices are very decent and the instructors are patient. My advice is to bring your focus and attention... be prepared to ask questions about the road test or about driving in general. Most of the instructors speak mandarin but my teachers (jason and aaron) spoke enough English to do driving instruction. The office took care of the paperwork and registration for me. For scheduling appointments, it helps to have your student number on hand for efficiency. All in all, I got my license and am more than pleased with this experience! read more

Took about five classes here but didnt learn anything AT ALL. I went to another school and I learned parking, 3 point-turn, and provided me with really good feedback in only 5 classes and even passed the road test 1 month after. I was dissapointed that I wasted my money here. I wasn't given feedback and they just told me to drive without any instructions. The 5 classes, I just drove around, according to them "you need practice on your turns" but no other feedback. It was a waste of money. I REALLY DO NOT RECOMMEND! read more

I was first introduced to Flushing Auto Driving School from a friend's recommendation, and now I send all my friends there! Within five days of lessons I graduated from being a New Yorker who had scant knowledge on driving to a proud owner of a NY driver's license. Woohoo! The driving lessons here are one on one; you're paired with a teacher and you actually get in the car and learn how to drive from experience rather than simply sitting in a classroom and hypothesizing about how to drive. While the experience of learning how to drive can be nerve-wracking for some, my teacher was extremely patient and actually made the process of learning really fun. It was like learning how to drive from a friend! Another plus was that you not only learn how to drive, but are familiarized with how the road test is scored. Once you're aware of the common mistakes made in road tests you're in good shape. The paperwork is quick and painless and they help schedule your DMV test date for you, which was super convenient for me. read more

My triumph from driving test At the first beginning, I was deeply refused the take the driving test, as I have the great phobia for the motor vehicle and mechanic stuff. Even though being a new immigrant from HK, I know I must take driving seriously as the necessary skill set in New York, I can't build up my confidence in driving still. In my first two year, I tried numerous driving class in Brooklyn, but the coach can't calm me down and give me suitable suggestion about how to improve my driving skill. Worst thing is that the coach never notice the location of driving test and keep changing the driving coaches without my permission. At first, I supposed that they brought me to Staten Island, then they brought me to Brooklyn test site. What a outrageous move! So I quitted the driving class. As time gone by, I thought I would never pass the driving test in my life time. At that time, I didn't know what I should do. Since most of my friend passed their driving test in Staten Island easily, I didn't want to do that like them. I want to prove myself that I ain't a feeble and weak man, especially for my mother, since she always want me to pass the test. She felt so disappointed to see me failing the test again and again and my young cousin passed a long time ago in upstate. (Yup, like typical Asian mother, we need to honor our family and they keep comparing us with other relatives) Until one moment, in 2019 July... In the Facebook groupchat, a Hong Kong groupmate recommend me to take Union Auto-driving class. As their coaches are wonderful and best, and the best thing is that they provide the driving lesson in Bayside area. (I moved to Bayside one year before) So I met Andy. He is very kindhearted and patient coach. He would mark down the characteristic of every student in his notebook. So he can give the corresponding and tailor-made advice to help me. For alleviating my horror, he would bring me to the high ways to deal with cars and busy traffic. For improving my turning, he would bring me to triangle-shape road to practice. For dealing with pedestrian, he would bring me to Flushing. So step by step, bit by bit, he builds up my confidence and skills in driving. Even though I keep forgetting the skills, he gave his best instruction to correct. While I was nervous, he will have everyday talk to calm me down. A great thing is both of us come from Hong Kong, so I can always have nice conversation with him, sharing his life experience in 1980s Hong Kong, giving suggestion about how to adapt to the immigrant life here. What a wonderful experience to me! Not only he is my driving coach, also is my life coach somehow. While in test site, I usually drive like a piece of shit, he tried his best to cheer me up and comfort me, like giving me some candy, medication to alleviate my dizziness, artificial tears to alleviate the pain of my eyes. He is so great! While I failed the test, he would say my driving skill is not bad, all I need to do is just to boost my own confidence and conquer the sense of horror. So yesterday, I made it. When I stop for the car in the front, I thought I probably failed again, and joked to the coach that I need to contact Gloria (A very nice front desk staff in the Union driving school, she schedule the best schedule of test time for me. She did a great help in recommending me to watch the clips of driving safety and It proves that it helps a lots in understanding the driving rule, like 3 seconds-distance between two cars) And the moment the judge gave me the congratulation, I was amazed and ecstatic about the success. I can't help kissing Andy and give him a big hug (Though he stayed away, haha!) I kept slapping my face and felt it as a moment of "Dream come true" I deeply recommend the Union Auto Driving School!!! read more

My whole family passed our road tests and got our driving licenses from this school so I am proud to say it is definitely worth the money! I purchased the 14 class package (each class is 45 min long so you actually get 7 lessons because each lesson is 90 minutes long) however 7 lessons were more than enough. My instructor was incredibly flexible with the times he can teach me so I was able to complete all my courses within time for my driving test! Also, he drew me pictures because I am a visual learner.. so that was really useful in my learning process. Plus I passed on my first try :) Woot Woot! Great school! Everyone should go!! read more

He is very informative, trustworthy, knowledgeable and experienced. He was not only furnished me with a lot of great safety tips that were extremely helpful making me become a better and safer driver. My instructor was Andy Luk and during our classes, he was very rude towards me. I appreciate how he came early to pick me up and payed attention to my driving. Some critiques I have about the lessons were 80% of the time, he just told me to turn right, left, make a U-turn and drove on very narrow roads most of the time ( we rarely drove on main roads where there's many cars). However, some of the 'suggestions' he said weren't even suggestions at all, they were just belittling me and nitpicking. I understood that I wasn't the best driver since I was still learning but I believe there's a difference between honesty/direct and just belittling somebody. I made mistakes in driving but he kept belittling me and even outbursting on me. Examples are 'Oh you're gonna fail tomorrow if you do that, you're definitely not going to pass, you've been driving for 3 months and you're still this bad?' Some of his 'suggestions' weren't even suggestions at all, it just became nitpicking. For instance, once I turned the handle from park to drive a little quickly and I supposed it startled him and he outburst on me 'Oh if you do that you're gonna startle the examiner and you're going to fail.' Furthermore, he also made unnecessary comments that were so uncalled for such as ' I can tell you don't do sports because your steering of the wheel is poor' and 'Oh I had a girl who took even fewer lessons than you and still passed but I'm not surprised because girls learn faster than boys.' When I forgot to turn the signal on or I parallel parked incorrectly he would just start yelling and saying "you're going to fail, why can't you get this right'. I thought driving was supposed to be fun for a teenager and an exciting experience but he was just so rude and not understanding whatsoever. I do not recommend this place, especially if you get him. Find yourself an instructor who is competent and direct not rude, belittle, and give people anxiety because you won't learn with someone like that. That experience just discouraged me from driving and it took some time to get back on the wheel after getting my license. Driving with him gave me so much anxiety. read more

Both my instructors were very friendly and kind, but I feel like I didn't learn anything from them. By the end of the third day I did not want to drive anymore. Instructor didn't teach at all and all he really did do was tell me to turn left, turn right, and text. Bro, that ain't how you teach. At some point he decides I'm driving too far to the left side of a two way road and tells me to drive closer to the right... okay let's do that. In less than five minutes I get into a beautiful accident, note the sarcasm, and break his mirror. Oops. Shoulda looked while I drove, yeah? Like heads up guys, I look like I know what I'm doing, but I learned it from playing bumper cars... so what does that say about my driving? At this point I'm terrified of driving. Like come on I broke the dude's car. My dad stepped in and taught me at home. I more or less used their cars as more practice after my dad's lessons. In the end I passed, but why am I updating such an old review? Cause to this day, a whole year later, I'm still terrified as sh*t when I have to drive closer to other cars or objects. I came here by reading reviews on Yelp, this place is called Union Auto Driving School as well, or at least what it says on their business card. Anyways, I went in there, and they share the office with an airlines company, accountant, and other stuff. But I sat down, lady gave me a wide variety of classes and options, although their classes are months and 2 months in advanced because they are super booked (you might get lucky). I took 8 classes, 2 tests, 5 hour class for 180 dollars. The price itself is really cheap I had Peter, very Asian stereotypical Asian guy, and he was very strict and hardheaded, but he was a good teacher. Within 8 classes, I passed the test on my first try and got 5 points on the test. He will teach you all you need to know about the road test and how to succeed. He emphasizes less on theory and idea and more on practice. So he'll just drive you to a place and from there, you drive based on his instruction and drive him back. Since this school is located on the second floor, you must climb up a narrow set of stairs to reach the place. When you reach the landing, the school will be in the office on the first door to the right. This school shares the office with a music teaching business, so don't be put off by that. As for the school itself, I found the rates reasonable and the person who schedules all of the driving sessions to be very friendly. The teacher I got, however, was the person whose service I really appreciated. He was very communicative and helpful when it came to helping me improve my driving skills. He had a lot of helpful tips and strategies for driving. I found him to be genuinely interested in helping me pass my test, which I did of course, and it was a great experience to have a teacher who is actually proud of the passing rate for his students. Had an instructor under the surname Gao. Poor teacher who gives his students anxiety. He always yelled, but that's probably because he was scared shitless sitting next to me as I'm driving. I would not recommend him as he is bad in explaining concepts. For example, when I am approaching a red light, he says "slowwllyy." As a new and inexperenced driver, I interpret that as loosen pressure on gas pedal. I did not know it meant to step on the brake. He has broken English, don't come here unless you know Mandarin. He also takes bathroom breaks. The 90 minute lesson is really actually a 60 minute lesson or less. They take time driving you there and driving you back. On the day of my road test, he totally disregarded my lesson as I BARELY practiced driving. He took MY LESSON TIME to pick up another boy to go to the road test. I paid for 14 lessons (really 7) but did not receive the TIME that I paid for. Overall, I do not recommend this place. I have signed up for a new driving school instead. read more
