We arrived 1/2 hour late, and they were able to hold our equipment and it made no difference in our reservation... 4 hours began at the time that we stepped out of their office. They have a restroom for the public in the next building over, which was kept clean and stocked. A gentleman helped us into our kayaks and sent us off. The river is beautiful, though because it's quite wide, you need to share it with yachts and boats of various sizes. This creates some waves, and they can be a pain in the ass. In general, people on the water are cool with each other, but there are some (maybe it's a Long Island thing) who feel so superior in their big beautiful boats and treat you like a pipsqueak in their way. As I was all the way to the right side of the river, while returning to the dock, a boat came up behind me. I turned around, looked at the guy driving, and he made a hand motion to say "move over to the left." I thought I was blocking his way into his dock, but he passed me by and kept going straight! Like WTF? That has nothing to do with L.I. Canoe Kayak Rentals, I'm just commenting on the experience in general. To add to the experience, there are some really nice spots with exposed sand (when it's not high tide) that you can hang out along and explore nature. There's a bird sanctuary as well... which wasn't really that impressive, but that may have just been my timing. When we returned to the dock, we pulled in our kayaks and there was no one present to help us out. A couple of ladies pulled their kayaks in, and one needed help getting out, so we provided that help ourselves. I wasn't so impressed about that aspect of this business, though I realize it's probably a lot to ask for them to have someone standing on the dock all day to receive people who are returning. It wasn't a cheap trip, but I'd likely return. I will probably check out some other places first though.

They were very accommodating! We had a great time on the water! Nice scenic views! I would…read moredefinitely recommend them!

And yeah, that marsh grass just sucked up all the excess water like magic. What marsh grass? Well, the marsh grass that's under all that water. Three million dollars' worth of rocks and marsh grass. Unbelievable. Next time they want to blow three million, they should just give it to me. The flooding situation still won't be fixed, and they'll still be out three million, but at least I'll put it to good use.

The website provided all the information we needed to be prepared for our adventure. Upon arrival, Joe and Connor got us fitted with our safety vests and our kayaks and then gave us lessons on how to use the paddle, get in/out of the kayak and provided general navigation and waterway guidance; from there we were off and loving life! We kayaked in Cold Spring Harbor just behind the lab and had an awesome time. It was so relaxing and quiet as we glided across the water. Joe led us in the front and Connor picked up the rear so we always felt safe and in good hands. Since this was our first time, we opted for a 1hour lesson/tour and Joe told us that most of his customers, at the end of the tour, say they wanted more time. We all felt the same way and can't wait to go back. If you're thinking about kayaking... go for it and definitely do it with JK Kayak & SUP. You won't be disappointed. Thanks Joe and Connor for such a fun afternoon!!!

The website is super informative and gives so many helpful details to plan your adventure whether you are going on the SUP or kayaks but what's more impressive is when you arrive, you are greeted by a super friendly staff and the owner David, is super knowledgeable about what's appropriate for your experience level and then guides you on how to get the most enjoyment out of the time on the water. The equipment was all either brand new or kept in like new condition which is definitely a huge bonus since I have rented boards at other places that were not kept in condition like these. There is a convenient and super clean locker room and bathroom available to get changed in and then lock up your valuables just steps away from the dock where you launch. You can tell that a lot of thought has been put into making every detail of your entire experience fluid and flawless. Since this was my son's first time, the staff helped tether his board to mine which made him and I much more comfortable. After we launched we had an incredible couple of hours enjoying the beautiful weather and such a special day together. I can't thank you enough David and your wonderful staff for making this a very special memory for my son and I! My son already asked when we will go again. After seeing another guest on the 'Step SUP today, I think it would be super fun to try that out and read that Sea Kayak offers motorized SUP as well... I mean, c'mon how cool is that!! I think it goes without saying but I will anyway... I highly recommend Sea Kayak Connecticut, I know we will definitely be back for more!!
