He has been enjoying summers at Gate Hill day camp for three years in a row. Where do I start? The facilities are neat and modern. The staff is very personable, enthusiastic and cheerful and overall the Camp is run very smoothly and professionally. On a day to day basis the Camp runs like a well oiled machine providing the children with a wide variety of activities and different themes for each day. They add some nice personal touches by providing daily summaries of what the kids did each day and text message updates to let you know if the buses are running behind due to traffic. As parents, we couldn't be happier that our son is growing as a person, learning different sports and games and making great friends in a safe and beautiful environment .

I have recently been informed that my child will NOT be wearing a cap and gown at the graduation ceremony on Friday June 14, 2013, but the Full-Time Kindergarten children will be wearing a cap and gown! This brings me great disappointment, sadness, and quite honestly anger. This is simply UNACCEPTABLE! I am curious to know who decided that the part time Kindergarten classes were not to be given a cap and gown? They are all one graduating class, whether they are Part Time or Full Time. They are all practicing their "graduation" songs. They all sit in the same classroom and have the same teacher! It is just awful that ALL the students worked hard all year and most parents have worked hard with their children all year and now their accomplishments are going completely unnoticed! They will be at the graduation ceremony segregated!!!!! I, as a parent, feel my child deserves to wear a cap and gown and feel like he is one with his class. As parents, we deserve to see our child graduate or move up as a CLASS - what message is that going to send to the CHILDREN that only some kids were given a cap and gown to wear?? I would like to know how the person who made this decision would feel if this was his/her child and they were not "part of the class" because they only attended part time and how his/her child would feel as being different because they weren't given a cap and gown on their monumental occasion! I can almost be certain he/she, too, would be disappointed and angered by this situation. Maybe everyone should take a minute to think about it - really think about it if this was their child's year in Kindergarten and they were being overlooked! We were INVITED to the ceremony and signed up to bring stuff to the ceremony, but my child will not wear a cap and gown? Invitations were extended to grandparents and extended family, but to do what exactly? Video and take pictures of a graduating class with half the class in regular clothes and the other half in caps and gowns? How SILLY will that look! People are taking the day off of work or leaving early to make this event for what reason exactly? I'm sure they are expecting something MUCH more than what they are going to be getting. I have a feeling there is going to be many many disappointed and angry parents that will not be expecting something this ridiculous. I know I am not the only parent who feels this way since many other parents who were informed of this situation have also expressed concern to me. Obviously action needs to be taken. The only way to make this right is to order caps and gowns for the ENTIRE graduating class and have them over-nighted for Friday's ceremony. Hopefully we can get something done for our children who deserve something so much more than they are getting and us as parents want. I sincerely hope that this situation is rectified quickly. This "technicality" is something that will not be ignored by me.

Deerkill is by far the best day camp in the Rockland County area. My kids could not get enough of them. My kids are also huge fans of animals and the fact that Deerkill has a pony, and a couple of friendly alpacas is a great plus. The trails are free to enter but they do request for volunteer donation for non members. Different tiers of annul membership available to purchase at main office that comes with some wonderful perks, such as free access to trails and special events. The main office also has some of the exhibition items like insect box and turtle box. Outside the office there's also bird and butterfly cages. We went to the center for our daughter to participate in butterfly feeding event. Upon arrival we found out we had to buy the tickets for one of the two scheduled events. Luckily there were slots available to the second event on the day. The ticket was reasonably cheap, only $8. It also came with an additional bird's exhibition that took place right in front of office deck. All the stuff members were very friendly, informative and interactive. We spent wonderful couple of hours here on beautiful warm summer day.

We live in NYC and it's so wonderful to get them out of the city into fresh mountain air - the facilities are impressive and well-kept, they offer every activity and sport that you can imagine. I appreciate that they have very knowledgeable instructors and my kids were introduced to new activities that they aren't normally exposed to through school or extra-curricular activities. They get to swim twice a day (they got over their fear of water which was a huge achievement!) My older one likes art and he loved how he got to choose to do art for extra periods. Similarly, my other son prefers sports and he got to focus on his sport of choice. They've been around for 60 years and I love the family-owned spirit of the camp. I've heard from other parents that they feel their kids at other camps "get lost" and are just a number. I have to say that is the opposite at Deer Mountain - they build a community of campers where the staff and leadership genuinely KNOW the kids, which in turn help my boys feel safe and comfortable in their own skin. My son learned how to fence and play chess, my oldest tween daughter made amazing friends which she sees a few times throughout the year, and my youngest daughter goes to sleep telling me how excited she is to go to sleep so she can wake up and go back to camp in the morning. The lunch, which is provided for by the camp, is something all three of my kids look forward to. They read the lunch menu on Sunday night so they can see what tasty dishes will be coming up. As crazy as this sounds, food is VERY important to my kids. The counselors have been fun and kind to my kids and the directors go out of their way to interact with the kids daily. This is a well thought out organization with a tremendous amount of tradition and pride. I'm so happy we found it!

Lots of them are there only for a paycheck and are just waiting for the day to end, not caring what happens during it and being disengaged from the campers. This has resulted in many campers being completely out of control. Settoga's priority is putting on a show for parents and seeming competent when dealing with them, but everything the parents don't see is a complete mess. There is terrible communication between employees and many of the counselors prioritize their interpersonal drama with one another over doing their job well.
