Nice BYOB night out. They have a small stage with camera to magnify what the artist is doing as she talks the group through step-by-step instruction. If you're a strong artist this maybe too elementary for you, but if you're average or below in the painting department this is a good way to develop some skills. The time of the event is two hours, for me, time was too crunched and I felt rushed to keep up and finish. Some brushes are a bit damaged and don't make the markings you may intend so don't expect perfection. The day we went they ran out of some paint colors- this is disappointing and should not happen at a business specializing in painting. I recommend always having backup paint and a person circulating for paint color refills. Additionally, I'd recommend making this a 2.5 hour event, you need an extra 30 minutes post instructions for patrons to touch up/ finish their creations without feeling it's time to cleanup and get out. Although it's BYOB my lesson learned is to bring a cup with a lid as painting neighbors don't mind sending paint splashing off the canvas. I've been to a few different paint places and never have i seen such poor instruction, watery paint, bad seating and a makeshift screen that was so small you couldn't even see what you were supposed to draw. The instructor went at an extremely fast pace and was asked by several people to slow down, in between painting she was quiet, gave minimal instructions and turned the music on her phone to listen to while she painted, while we were all hoping for instructions, they give you three cheap paint brushes, and three colors of paint which you keep having to ask for refills on. This is by far the worst experience I've ever had painting. I was excited to get a paint your own canvas place in the desert, but I'd rather drive to purple easel in Ontario than ever go back here.! I am intensely disappointed by the AI images posted on their website as examples of "what we are going to paint!" I would like to ask HOW that is ethical. How is someone going to teach us how to paint something that no one painted in the first place? It's false marketing and should be illegal. Don't think I can't tell that those are AI either. It's blatantly obvious to anyone who has spent time around art. I am extremely sickened by this and confused... the art teachers are so lovely and talented, so why would the manager not pay them to create a painting to teach? It is highly suspicious and stinks of cutting corners. It makes me curious what the employees who have to "teach" those paintings feel. As an artist, I would feel as if I were slapped across the face. I rarely head up this way, but when I did I loved taking my friends to this place, even if I could tell the images we were painting were just taken from an online Google search or a public forum. Never again, though. AI is false advertising that steals from artists without their consent and harms the environment with how much water and power it takes to cool the servers that run the software. I just can't, in good faith, come back to this place after this. It feels like a permanent stain that says something about the owner. I can't support that type of business model. read more

I made two attempts to patron this establishment. Both times i was told there wasn't enough interest in the painting of that particular day so both days were canceled. The person I talked to both times was very nice and I had no issues, until I wrote a nice but informative review on Google only for it to be deleted. We couldn't make our original booking, but the staff was so kind to let us know that we could come in on another date. Rebooking was simple, we sent an email and received a quick response. Bring your own drinks and snacks, be careful paint may splatter. It's probably best to bring a closed container. There's aprons to put on over your clothes. Our instructor was attentive, asking everyone often if we needed any refill on supplies. It's a good size canvas. We enjoyed the music playing in the background. All I can say is WOWWWWW! I brought my son and his girlfriend to paint night 2/17/2020 and it was a blast! I don't remember the instructor's name, but she was super nice, helpful, and had a good sense of humor. It was a full class with various personalities in the room, and she was calm and smiled the whole time! I was so disappointed seeing some of these other comments. These types of painting classes are meant to have fun with family and friends, not to paint the Mona Lisa lol. Having said that, perhaps consider adding special 3-5 hour occasional "level 2 or level 3" classes for those artists with more experience and want a more detailed painting. I don't know the name of the man who answers the phone every time we call the business, but he has been the nicest, most accommodating person! We couldn't make the night we reserved for and he was able to credit for another night (last night). We had a bunch of questions too, and he always answered the phone and professionally answered all of our questions. I have been to tons of other paint places and all you get typically is a recorded message. My husband and I had a date night and painted our first paintings and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Kymm walked us through the painting step by step and James was very attentive when it came to refilling paint and water. I would've rated more stars, however I am saddened to see how Daniel, the owner, responded to the other reviews. An employer who is unwilling to mentor employees and then even throw shade like that will not earn my future business. I hope Daniel learns to investigate situations before responding, and train employees to be better instead of putting them on blast like that read more

This place is a great time. Been here a few times. Went to the class for aurora sky last night and was very surprised at how well my painting came out. The downfall of the evening was a group of loud, rude, and inconsiderate ladies. They were complaining that they couldn't hear or see, however they were talking loudly while the instructor was giving the next step. They were rude to the assistant who replenishes the supplies. They also came on Yelp and left negative reviews. I was sitting further back from them and could hear fine except for their loud chicken clucking. I suppose if you want the instructor holding your hand and painting for you, this isn't the place to go. I thought the instructor and assistant were very professional for how rudely they were being treated. I will continue coming and am glad to see the ladies from last night will not be back. read more

I did recommend flying colors before I got a lovely call a few hours before the class tonight stating that the paint will be cancelled. No where on their website does it state that they can cancel the paint nights if their are only a couple that have signed up. This is very bad business practice and is a huge disappointment. I will NOT be patronizing this establishment again. FYI adding a disclaimer would be professional and courteous. When I called back and asked if there was anything written on the site or in my confirmation stating they can cancel it, he did not know. Absolutely unprofessional and I have brought many people here. Will not be bringing anyone or telling anyone to go here. I attended the "aurora sky" painting class on Saturday July 29 7pm. I will not be returning nor will I recommend this place to anyone (that I like). It was difficult to see what the instructor was doing and couldn't hear her most of the time. Seriously, invest in a microphone! Me and my friends were sitting toward the back of the room and it was like three instructor was teaching the people closest to her, and when we said we couldn't see or hear what was going on, she was rude and basically told us to come up and take a picture and to not get frustrated. Very unprofessional. Not "step by step" instruction as the website advertises. The brushes were terrible; the water ended up with a lot of paint in it and the assistant (James) was rude and made it difficult to even change out our water or get more paint. He got mad if we went to get more paint. Apparently we were expected to wait while he begrudgingly did it for us, one by one. There were about 20 people in the room with one instructor and one assistant. I felt like I was a child- can't get my own paint? At one point James said he "couldn't hear" us asking for more paint because we didn't call for him by name. Both the instructor and James were not friendly mor helpful. I would honestly recommend just having your own paint night at home and trying to paint a picture from google- it would be less frustrating than going to this establishment. My cheap brushes from Walmart work better than theirs and at home I could change out my water and get more paint as needed without getting yelled at. Definitely not worth the $25! read more

This was my 2nd time painting here and will be my last. Tonight's painting "Aurora Sky" was not like the one on the website. When I asked for a particular color (so I could make mine more like the website photo) I was told "We don't have that color" so I just got it myself. I was chastised for doing that by James the "helper". They provide an empty pitcher for used water at the table and clean water to refill your jar. That's all well and good but the brushes turn the clean water dirty right away and you can't get a clean brush. I prefer to dump my own water in the sink and rinse my brushes but again, James chastised me for doing that. I explained to him why I do it that way and he said "We don't do it that way here". I promptly told him that's how I do it and why. He again repeated himself so I told him it would be the last time I come there. As far as the instruction goes, it was definitely lacking. My group was sitting towards the back and the instructor was concentrating more on the patrons at the front. I was VERY DISSATISFIED with Flying Colors in Apple Valley and will not be returning. I will continue to go down the hill to Purple Easel. I can give them a 100% positive review. Flying Colors gets 10 thumbs Daniel, I sent you a message via the website but have yet to hear from you. Us girls from work got together and decided to go as a girls day out , this was my 4th time . 1st time for rest of them but they caught on fast !! You can bring wine and snacks we had a great time.
