This place is lovely. Took the kids for a 3 hour horseback riding experience, where the last hour is a trail ride. There was a group of 11, with 3 employees. My kids loved it. Everyone learns and helps get the horses ready before riding. Everyone is really nice. The horses are well-matched to the riders and generally behave well. The pricing is a *fantastic* value. But there are 2 catches: 1) The reservation system appears to be by phone only. There is an email on the site but I'm not sure it works. So it's sort of like 30 years ago. They are very nice, but you will probably have to leave a voicemail and be patient. 2) I'm skeptical that there are ever weekend openings. They seem to host group events on most weekends. So if you just want to take your family it's probably a weekday thing. So if you don't mind a little phone tag and taking a 2-hr drive out to Cle Elum, you are going to have a great morning horsing around! read more

I went to flying horseshoe yearly from 2006-2010 for my birthdays and if we were passing by and I could talk my mom into it. They always made us feel welcome and would find horses suitable for all level of riders skill levels even when I came back years in 2018 when I was a lot more experienced and was put on a horse I had a BLAST with as well. Unlike some other barns that do not put their horses first you won't see any unhealthy or unloved horses here and the staff is amazing. I'm unsure if Penny still works there but I always looked forward to seeing her when I was younger and the crew she hired was always super knowledgeable and attentive on trail rides. I hope to be back to visit soon as we have moved back into the state. Our family went here on Labor Day to horseback ride. They were able to accommodate all 12 of us. What we thought was going to be horseback riding was much more and an amazing experience! We were shown how to take care of our horse prior to and after the ride. We brushed and saddled our own horse and the ride was so fun! Our wranglers were so helpful and knowledgeable. The owners there to answer questions and help as needed. We definitely will be back as everyone enjoyed it so much. read more

My 7 year old daughter and I had great ride this past weekend. The ranch team were all wonderful in providing great instruction for my daughter and made sure she and all of the rest in our group were completely comfortable/educated before setting off onto the trail. Wonderful place. Semi camping, rusted cabins that bring you back to childhood. CLEAN bathrooms/showers (don't have to pay to use) w/excellent hot water. Relax by the pool, let the kids run free in the fields, visit the horses. Build a fire, play cards/board games, read a book on the deck. Great way to spend the weekend on a tight budget! REALLY love this place. Penny (the owner) is fantastic & great with kids. Great place for a group of adults to go too. Plenty of hiking, close to town. Get away and soak up the sun. read more

This place was a bit hard to find from a web presence but I'm glad I finally did. They don't take online reservations so that was a bit of a burden but once you get them on the phone, they are great to work with. Fantastic place to bring the family on an extended weekend. Easy to camp here in their cabins or tents, roast marshmallows, and BBQ it up. Just minutes from town. This place reminds me of something out of a story book. Beautiful red barn, green grass, flowers, a garden, picnic tables, tree swings, fire pits, and plenty of shady trees. Beyond the main house are the stables and they've got dozens of horses for trail riding or a huge arena for taking lessons. The owners are super friendly and can easily accommodate groups of various sizes. We brought our 2-yr old here with her friend and they absolutely adored this place. Did I mention they have a pool? Kids loved the pool, I loved chilling in the shade drinking a cooler of IPAs and BBQn bratwurst and steaks. There is an amazing butcher in the center of town (2 miles away) called Owens meats and I must have bought half the store. Long story short, you don't have to pack supplies before heading out to the Flying Horseshoe Rancg. Cabins were great. Nice, cozy, and had a fridge for my beer. :). We arranged a horse ride for the little ones and they were laughing and grinning ear to ear the whole time. I also stopped by the bakery in the morning to grab some munchies and coffees which worked out nicely. We'll definitely be coming back as it was an awesome experience. read more

Penny is awesome and very sweet. The ranch hands were also great. So this review isn't so much for the service as it is for the accommodations (tee pees, cookhouses, grounds). So we stayed up on the hill in the tee pee area. Allow me to clear up some things you might have questions about if you're considering the tee pee or canvas shelter or log cabin on the hill. First of all, I wouldn't take a nice car up there. Sure, you can get up the switchbacks on the dirt road, but it's rough and actually pretty rutted at the top in places. A Prius would bottom out in a few places for sure. I'd recommend a Subaru Outback or above. Second, once you're up on the hill, there's not a whole lot to do aside from hike around or ride bikes on the dirt paths. You'll find yourself "hanging around the fort" down by the ranch most of the day and just sleeping up on the hill. The issue is that it's fairly primitive (no bathrooms - just Honey Buckets) and you cannot have fires (which sucks if you're camping). Oh, and the price is steep for this type of rustic experience. I mean, you're essentially dispersed camping on someone's property in a tee pee with cots. For free you could do this nearby on the Teanaway River. We paid $220 for two nights in a tee pee including lodging and sales tax. Ouch. That's resort territory. I suppose if you split it between 4 adults $25ish/night isn't too bad, but for a family it all comes out of one account. I don't think it's a great value. The ranch itself is a bit run down. Don't expect a newer Marriott and you'll be ok. Think kids camp all the way. In other words, old decor, old wooden stuff, old signs, spider webs, etc. That's all part of a camp experience right? Yep. We were ok with it. But it certainly isn't "nice" so set your expectations low. As a tee pee guest you'll have access to the pool (again, old and run down but nice when it's hot) and the cookhouses, which include use of fridges, stoves, pots and pans, etc. You're kind of "in the caretaker's backyard" when you're in the cookhouses and picnic table eating areas, so keep that in mind. They never made us feel unwelcome, but we kind of felt like we were imposing or something when we had family meals. I guess I just cannot get over the price. $220 for use of a tee pee two nights. We also used the pool for a couple hours each day and the cookhouses for all of our meals. I don't know, that just seems expensive to me for what you get. For the record 3 stars isn't "bad" and my kids (5 and 7) loved it here. But it was a ton of work for mom and dad and we had to pay a hefty price for what we got. That said, roll the dice if you want to, especially if you have or love horses. This is a horselovers paradise. They really cater to those types of folks. We kind of ran out of things to do around the ranch as non-horse folks so we drove to nearby locations. I hope this review helps you make your decision. read more

Our club has come to flying horseshoe every year for the past 10 years. With full baths, full kitchens and cabins that range from rustic to cozy-comfy, this is glam-ping at its best. Trail rides on good horses, swimming in the pool or just napping under the giant weeping willow tree - there is plenty to do. Penny and her son do a remarkable job keeping everything clean and working - it's an impressive operation. One year, we got to eaves drop on a country wedding on the front lawn - that was beautiful and made for a very special day for the bride and groom. Give it a try! read more

Just went there this weekend to watch the meteor shower and to ride a horse for the first time. I was definitely impressed by the property and the family and staff that run the ranch. From the teepees that we slept in, to the horse riding, everything was amazing. The horse riding safety and instruction portion was well put together and delivered. Last, aside from being professional, and friendly, I admired how much they really take care of their horses. They actually love their horses and know everything about every single horse there. I used to come here through the YMCA summer camps to go horseback riding! I was a little tiny human then but I was fascinated with the horses, and the camp guides were super helpful, especially with those who were timid to get on a horse. I remember us hanging out in the big red barn to stay cool as we were here in the summer. I actually learned how to saddle my own horse as appose to just seeing a horse ready to ride. This is the only place that anyone looking for a great weekend with the family should consider. The place is perfect! Great open space, clean cabins with everything you need onsite to have a great time. The staff are professional and helpful, and their commitment to their horses and their guests are second to none. It was great watching the owner (Penny) give a pep talk to my daughter about riding horses, and overcoming obstacles (my daughter was a little scared at first). This ranch is the real deal, with real people who actually care about their guests having a good time and having fun as well. Flying Horseshoe Ranch is amazing!!!!! Our family went here today for an adventure on our last day of a camping trip. This was honestly the highlight of our trip. From the moment we got there, we felt at home. Justin and Penny greeted us and talked to our group, teaching us about saddling our horses, guiding them, brushing them and a lot more. At first, even though I was totally excited, I started getting a little nervous. However, once I got my saddle and met Daisy, my horse, I was really looking forward to the ride and felt comfortable and relaxed. Justin did a fabulous job instructing us and adding humor into the day as well. He has the best, driest sense of humor I've ever come across. He held everyone's attention, including the young kids, not an easy thing to do. Justin and Penny were very thorough and we had a great ride! They paired everyone with a good horse. After it was over, I was sad to leave. But, I've already talked to my husband about coming back and staying for a week. Do yourself and your family a favor, come here and enjoy these horses, the land and the wonderful people who run the Flying Horseshoe Ranch. You won't be sorry!!! I cannot wait to come back. Spent two nights here with a bunch of friends dueing a weekend at the end of May. Was greeted by Justin, one of the owners who was very helpful and friendly and a couple of very friendly, older dogs, the kids enjoyed playing with. Penny was pleasant, but not very friendly per se. The ranch is exactly that, an old horse ranch, very rustic and old, but well kept, manicured and clean. We stayed in the sleeper cabins on the main property. They have a light, windows, one electrical outlet and "doors". No heat, so beware of that when packing bedding, got kinda cold at night. They were bunk cabins, slept 8 and had a thin mat, good for kids, not so much for adults, so keep that in mind too; I didn't sleep well at all, but the kids were fine. We had use of the "little cook house", it had two fridges, a stove, microwave, tables and even utensils and pots and pans to use. There were some board games and books to read. Outside the cook houses was a fire pit and benches, which we used both nights to stay warm and of course roast marshmallows. Fire wood was provided, however, we ran out during the night, but our guys went and found more, no biggie. Justin did restock the next day. Overall, it was a decent "glamping" experience, mostly because of the people I went with and because the place is very kid friendly and the kids had a ball running around, playing tag, doing cartwheels, making smores, swimming, biking and horse rides which was only $35 for an hour ride and included everything you needed. Which was a great deal. My ONLY complaint is that my daughter's wranglers didn't tighten and secure her horse's saddle, as a result, the saddle loosened and spun her off while they were riding on the trail, luckily, she wasn't badly injured, got back on, and finished the ride "like a boss" however, quite a bit sore. Penny, the owner, actually had a audacity to blame my daughter! saying she thinks she startled the horse and slid off, really Penny? I found this out from my daughter after we left unfortunately, but I do plan on contacting Ms. Penny and letting her know that was NOT the case. I don't plan on returning as a result, very insulting! ***update*** I spoke to Penny, she clarified that she didn't feel in any way, my daughter falling off the horse was my daughter's fault. Whew.... I appreciate her taking the time to discuss this with me. read more

This place is wonderful. My boyfriend and I took our group of three kids here - ages 9, 6 and 3. All of them had a wonderful time. The 3 & 6 year old girls loved the horses and were treated so special by the wranglers. The 9 yr old boy did a longer ride - went ok but his tush was sore. Better pants may have helped? My butt was sore too, but it was cool so I didn't mind. The entire place is kept extremely clean with all the necessities for cooking in the cook house. The pool was a huge hit as well. We stayed in the cozy cabins - two cabins side by side. The kids loved the freedom of bouncing between the two of them. I brought a baby monitor which worked perfectly between the cabins of the kids wanted to be independent away from us. They did and it worked wonderfully. The owner Penny could not have been nicer and truly added to the experience. read more

I went to summer camp here for seven years or so when I was a kid, and it is one of the best memories of my life. The other kids were pretty rotten to me sometimes, but the location, the horses, and the wranglers were awesome (and Penny is in fact fantastic). It's kind of crazy seeing the girls bunkhouse turned into a dining hall, I remember fondly sleeping on the top bunk under those rafters. I hope they still have the archery range around! The river walks were so much fun. The acreage is absolutely beautiful! I remember that cabin up on the hill being built in the last years I was there :) It can get pretty hot in the summer, but the pool and the river are great ways to cool down. I know nostalgia is affecting my review somewhat, but every year driving through those gates was the greatest thing ever. It's kind of crazy seeing the crafts cabin turned into a sleeping cabin! If I ever make it back up to washington, I hope to be able to spend a weekend there. read more
