Whistle stop omelette with crispy hash browns and homemade sour dough bread - YUM!
Kaitlin K.

Sunset is my go to for breakfast in upper county. Service is great and there's plenty of comfy booth seating in the restaurant. They also have a little bar in the back, you can watch the game and play some pull tabs, winning!! My favorite is the whistle stop omelette, always on point. They're pretty quick too, even when they're busy. You can also buy their homemade bread to take home - sour dough is the best!! I absolutely love the sunset and will continue to frequent for our weekend breakfast dates :)!!

When we planned a travel to the Eastern side if Washington, we wanted a place beyond Snoqualmie Pass for our breakfast pit stop. Even though there were multiple options we considered, we thought stopping at Cle Elum will give us enough gap before we stop for lunch later in the day. One of the top choices we had was Sunset Cafe. It's located in the main street with a lot of parking spots on the roadside. We walked into a typical diner place with some great ambiance and interiors. They do have multiple dining areas and we got ourselves a booth. The interior decorations speaks a lot about the local and Washington history. They do offer omelettes, classic break fast options + Sunset specials. Their offerings are family recipes passed down through generations. We started with coffee. Ordered Got Blues from the specials, Greek scramble a stack of pancakes. There were a very few customers at the time - so I decided to walk around and explore. They do sell pies, brownies, cinnamon rolls. And they are popular as well. I have seen many walking into get those. They do have a bar and lounge as well. The food arrived relatively quick. It was a scrumptious breakfast for us. Kids had a great time enjoying the sweet treats as well. Got Blues was on point - delicious! The best among our pick! Service was top! The staffs were very friendly. We were helped by Nancy that day. She loves to talk about their food and the pies. Lovely personality! We did pick up pies on our way out as well. The food was great; service was amazing. It was a perfect stop for us and great start for our road trip! They are on instagram - sunsetcafe_loosewolf Highly recommended!

Mint crème pie - excellent

Nice casual spot with surprisingly good options for burgers (meat is blend of top round, chuck roll, prime rib and prime sirloin from local butcher) and big selection of housemade pies. We had a burger with stuffed jalapeños in it, and a mint crème pie, both were delicious.

16 oz prime rib dinner comes with 2 sides

I am quite jealous of people in Cle -Elum for having Sunset cafe in their town! Our server Suzanne was so great. Super friendly and cares to connect with her customers. The food was so amazingly delish!! Hands down the best food , the best service for the best price! Tonight, my hub's 16oz prime rib that came with 2 sides (chose caeser salad and baked potato) were all huge and expertly done. The prime rib was quality aged meat super tender. You can choose between 8 or 16 ounce. Saw a lot of customers ordering the same. Hubby was a fan. Loved my salmon dinner with rice pilaf and grilled veg. Way better than upscale places down south by far! The mixed veggie side was recommended by Suzanne and I loved it so much they know how to grill veggies to perfection. They don't treat side dishes as an afterthought here. The huge slab of salmon had that crispy skin underneath I really enjoyed it. I had the teriyaki Shanghai sauce on the side. Tasted good. I would definitely order this again. Super healthy and delicious! The complementary fluffy rolls with garlic butter drizzle was a nice touch! I had mine without the butter it was still yummy! Everything was so fresh and good! The side minestrone soup was scrumptious and loaded with goodies. Everything tasted scratch made. Ooh they have non alcoholic beer too. Pies and baked goods looked amazing. Coconut cream pie was fantastic! Looking forward to having breakfast here tomorrow! This place is solid! You can tell they aim to please!

a sandwich and salad

Stopped by this spot for lunch on our way to the Gorge Ampitheater! The staff were super friendly and courteous as we were seated. I ordered the cheese & bacon burger with a side of caesar salad and it was honestly such a good burger. The meat was so juicy and buns were so soft and it definitely hit the spot. If I were to make one comment, it would be to have less dressing on the salad. It was drenched in dressing and was very salty.

Avocado toast

Quality local spot! Wide variety of brunch choices. Especially enjoyed the avocado toast and the apple pie was absolutely to die for!

Good vibes with this place! A very traditional American diner with so many pies and desserts to try! Great breakfast spot that's open pretty early and plenty of larger tables for bigger parties. Service is relatively quick and super kind and friendly.

Ask the Community - Sunset Cafe & Loose Wolf Saloon

Hi, do you guys still do punch cards? Like buy 6 meals, get $8 off? Do you also still offer senior discount (12%) off?

They do offer senior & military discount - 12%

I ordered a chicken Caesar salad which was very good but the $15.66 for five pieces a little chicken and some lettuce and Caesar salad was ridiculous?

The best answer I can give is you ordered two separate items, a Caesar salad and a side of chicken. Although these items go together we don't have them together on the menu as one item at the Sunset. We wish we could, and we try to give good deals…

The hostess who sat us was so sweet and our server did a great job walking us through how they handle allergies. The even have a dedicated fryer for gluten free items! We got to the restaurant between breakfast and lunch. I absolutely recommend everything! My kiddo got a burger and fries that he loved, I got the corned beef hash skillet, my mother-in-law got the fish and chips. The fish and chips were amazing! Huge portions of fish dipped in a light, airy batter. The rest of our party got burgers and highly recommended the truffle fries. We didn't partake in any of their drinks but they had a great menu of options, we will absolutely be back.

Honestly, if your establishment holds 10 or 100 people, the staff and kitchen should be able to manage that number. We saw one table actually leave after waiting longer than us without their food because they had somewhere else to be. Not great. Once the food finally arrived we were so hungry that I'm certain anything would have tasted good. We didn't complain or ask but they did remove one soda from the tab. It's a cute place with a decent menu but I'm on the fence about bothering to give them another try.

Wow, what an incredible dinner! I got a chance to meet both owners, Kim (wife) and Chef Alex…read more(husband). My boyfriend and I started off with the Clams! The broth was perfectly seasoned, clams were cooked just right and it had an elegant touch of pork belly, saffron and smoked sausage. Genuinely one of the best orders of clams I've ever tasted. We also ordered the Halibut with a curried coconut sauce and the fried rice cake. The halibut was cooked perfectly, the rice cake was AMAZING!! Perfectly fried and paired so well with the intense and rich flavor of the coconut curry broth. The halibut was seriously the star of the show, you can tell it is fresh by the quality of the meat. My boyfriend was very surprised at how the risotto was prepared. He added steak to his risotto which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The texture and taste was spot on. Our server, Sharae was very pleasant and reccomended alot of amazing drinks to us as well. She took excellent care of us with having the balance Of professional yet fun/ outgoing personality. She was just the sweetest. We finished our meal with a mouthwatering LEMON tiramisu. Out of this world, Melts in your mouth!! Perfect absence of lemon, cream and the cake was rich and both delicate at the same time. 10/10 best restaurant in town. Will be back for breakfast. The owner Kim was so awesome, very fun to converse with. Her and Sharae made our experience very memorable. Thank you for taking great care of us!!

The server that got us was very friendly and nice. We ordered cocktails; a sparkling rose' for me and a jalapeño mojito for my husband. The jalapeño mojito was delicious. Just a tiny amount of heat and the jalapeño came through. I ordered a Caesar salad to start. Was topped with anchovies and was good and crisp. My husband ordered the halibut with green curry. It was cooked to perfection and very tasty. I got the pappardelle ragu because I was told it was fresh in-house made pasta. The sauce was good, but the noodles definitely didn't taste fresh or have in-house made texture. I wouldn't order it again. I was having fomo so we ordered the ribeye medallion crusted with potatoes and I wish we wouldn't have. It was the most bland dish I have had recently. I don't think the ribeye or the potatoes were seasoned. I get that it came on a sweet onion jam, but that was just sweet. There was no salt or pepper coming through at all on the meat or potatoes. I wish we would have sent it back. I am just not that person. Luckily with enough fresh ground pepper and salt at the table, it made edible. We told our server, she didn't seem to care. We decided we couldn't end on a bad note with the ribeye medallion, so we got the lemon tiramisu. I have never heard of lemon tiramisu. It was so good. I highly recommend. I saw the chop tomahawk come out of the kitchen multiple times and it looked amazing. Ambiance is great. There is an open kitchen so that can be loud. Be aware there are high top tables when you make reservations. Would definitely go back.

From the stunning views over the valley below, to the tasty cocktails, to the wonderful eats it was a great way to chillax on a lovely Saturday evening. Having had a not-great experience with wine (at a different venue) earlier in the day, we opted for cocktails here. My extra dirty martini with cheese-stuffed olives was phenomenal, and my friend enjoyed her old fashioned. We shared a roasted beet and burrata salad as an appy, then moved on to our main courses - I got the prime tenderloin and she got the cider glazed pork. We washed it all down with a couple of chocolate espresso martinis for dessert. My tenderloin was cooked to perfection, and accompanied by some sweet little roasted carrots and a lovely heap of mashed potatoes. My friend reported that her pork was more like a stew, and she really enjoyed it. What really put our experience here over the top was the absolutely amazing service we received, especially from our waiter, Trevor. He was friendly, funny, and helped us navigate the menu when we couldn't decide what to get. He also told us a little about the geological history of the area, which is built over an old coal mine. This place wasn't cheap, but for a fun night out of splurging, it was perfect!

They have a cool selection of books, and a lot of gift type things like tea, stuffed animals, bookmarks, art supplies, etc. I noticed the dinner menu and decided a cheeseburger sounded good. I ordered the Basecamp cheeseburger with bacon and a side salad. You can apparently order food upstairs and then sit upstairs or downstairs (or outside, I think). They have table service as well, after 4pm. Service was very friendly and patient. I decided to eat downstairs, and there was a cozy bar and large seating area. My burger soon arrived and it was delicious! A great toasted bun and a wonderfully substantial and beefy patty. The cheese was rich and gooey. Great, yummy combination of flavors. The salad was good too, with a nice ranch dressing on the side. A cool place that made me feel welcome and served up a great burger.
