Hands down one of the best diners we've ever been to! The French toast was the best I've ever had--perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Their pie selection is incredible, with so many options it was hard to choose just one. The service was fantastic, friendly, and attentive throughout our meal. Quaint and just what you'd expect in a small town. Not fancy but the food was really good, the service pleasant and timely. Lots of people having lunch but didn't take long for us to get our food. I ordered calamari which was so good. Crispy and well seasons with a side of coleslaw and a nice dipping sauce. Hubs had a club sandwich which he said was really good and it came with fries that were cooked perfectly. Only down side was the pie. It tasted good but should have been heated before we got it. Sunset is my go to for breakfast in upper county. Service is great and there's plenty of comfy booth seating in the restaurant. They also have a little bar in the back, you can watch the game and play some pull tabs, winning!! My favorite is the whistle stop omelette, always on point. They're pretty quick too, even when they're busy. You can also buy their homemade bread to take home - sour dough is the best!! When we planned a travel to the Eastern side if Washington, we wanted a place beyond Snoqualmie Pass for our breakfast pit stop. Even though there were multiple options we considered, we thought stopping at Cle Elum will give us enough gap before we stop for lunch later in the day. One of the top choices we had was Sunset Cafe. It's located in the main street with a lot of parking spots on the roadside. We walked into a typical diner place with some great ambiance and interiors. They do have multiple dining areas and we got ourselves a booth. The interior decorations speaks a lot about the local and Washington history. They do offer omelettes, classic break fast options + Sunset specials. Their offerings are family recipes passed down through generations. We started with coffee. Ordered Got Blues from the specials, Greek scramble a stack of pancakes. There were a very few customers at the time - so I decided to walk around and explore. They do sell pies, brownies, cinnamon rolls. And they are popular as well. I have seen many walking into get those. They do have a bar and lounge as well. The food arrived relatively quick. It was a scrumptious breakfast for us. Kids had a great time enjoying the sweet treats as well. Got Blues was on point - delicious! The best among our pick! Service was top! The staffs were very friendly. We were helped by Nancy that day. She loves to talk about their food and the pies. Lovely personality! We did pick up pies on our way out as well. The food was great; service was amazing. I never leave reviews but this place is a hidden gem, their food is fantastic and they're affordable, I ate at many of the other restaurants and cafes in suncadia and around cle elum but this place is excellent. Nice casual spot with surprisingly good options for burgers (meat is blend of top round, chuck roll, prime rib and prime sirloin from local butcher) and big selection of housemade pies. We had a burger with stuffed jalapeños in it, and a mint crème pie, both were delicious. read more

I am quite jealous of people in Cle -Elum for having Sunset cafe in their town! Our server Suzanne was so great. Super friendly and cares to connect with her customers. The food was so amazingly delish!! Hands down the best food , the best service for the best price! Tonight, my hub's 16oz prime rib that came with 2 sides (chose caeser salad and baked potato) were all huge and expertly done. The prime rib was quality aged meat super tender. You can choose between 8 or 16 ounce. Saw a lot of customers ordering the same. Hubby was a fan. Loved my salmon dinner with rice pilaf and grilled veg. Way better than upscale places down south by far! The mixed veggie side was recommended by Suzanne and I loved it so much they know how to grill veggies to perfection. They don't treat side dishes as an afterthought here. The huge slab of salmon had that crispy skin underneath I really enjoyed it. I had the teriyaki Shanghai sauce on the side. Tasted good. I would definitely order this again. Super healthy and delicious! The complementary fluffy rolls with garlic butter drizzle was a nice touch! I had mine without the butter it was still yummy! Everything was so fresh and good! The side minestrone soup was scrumptious and loaded with goodies. Everything tasted scratch made. Ooh they have non alcoholic beer too. This is a really solid diner spot. I come here for breakfast and it's just so good. Nothing super upscale about it but the bread is homemade and the cinnamon roll is to die for. I'd recommend anything that comes with bread. Stopped by this spot for lunch on our way to the Gorge Ampitheater! The staff were super friendly and courteous as we were seated. I ordered the cheese & bacon burger with a side of caesar salad and it was honestly such a good burger. The meat was so juicy and buns were so soft and it definitely hit the spot. When looking for a place to grab lunch, the Sunset Cafe is right on the main thoroughfare through Cle Elum. The inside looks like a typical diner with pies and cookies near the front entrance. The seating has multiple areas for dining and it looks like there is a bar area in the back. The menu has a good selection of meals and the highlight is that the meats come from Owens meats and sausage comes from Glondos which are both just blocks away. The waitstaff is very friendly and they all have great personalities and love to talk about the menu items. I was not expecting such a great find but, I was extremely happy that this place was right on the main street and should not be missed. read more

An amazing Diner tucked away in a small town. Everything about this place from the ambiance, the service, and the food gives you a warm feeling. The ambiance is cosy, and the service is nothing but superb! Your needs are always met and taken with a smile. The food was absolutely delicious! Home-style restaurant that was perfect during our drive through Cle Elum! With plenty of seating, people were already starting to trickle in early on a Monday morning. We were in a rush for a to-go order, and the staff were super nice and accommodating, even having our hash brown put on the pan before our order was done. Got the breakfast platter with sausage with a choice of English muffin with blackberry jam, and a side of hash browns. Everything was cooked perfectly and the muffin was a delicious buttery goodness! My girlfriend and I stopped into Sunset for breakfast while waiting for Owen's Meat to open. Free street parking can be found. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Sunset offers family dining in the front area and a lounge (Loose Wolf Saloon) in the back area. Fresh baked goods such as pies, cookies and bread tantalize one upon entrance. I purchased two Snickerdoodle cookies for $2.25 each. I also purchased a loaf of wheat bread for $4.75. Sunset does not have the capability to slice their bread so consumer must slice at home. Hand Pies were unavailable during our visit. Sunset has partnered with both local meat shops, Owen's and Glondo's for their menu items. Thumbs up for supporting local. We had a couple Bloody Mary's for $7.50 each. For breakfast I ordered the Huevos Rancheros for $15.95: seasoned ground beef and beans served over a corn tortilla and topped with two eggs, ranchero sauce, cheese, green onions and sour cream. I chose hash-browns as my side. The hash-browns were served crispy as I requested. My breakfast was savory and filling. Staff was friendly and efficient. On my next visit I plan to sit in the lounge and hope to take home a Hand Pie. read more

Great little dive bar. Burgers and fries were tasty. Great IPAs on tap. The cafe is closed on Tuesdays so only the bar is open which you have to enter in the back. Limited menu 6 items or so. Sunset Cafe has a parking lot next to it as well as street parking nearby. The front counter displays a lot of pie and bread, all of which look amazing. Service here was fast, and they were able to accommodate our group of 14(!!!) extremely quickly around 11 am on Sunday. The food reminded me of classic diner fare. I don't know if you'd call this 'comfort food' or 'home-style cooking' or whatever, but if you're in the mood for fresh delicious food served efficiently, Sunset Cafe is a great bet. We read about a prime rib poutine they had but didn't see it on the menu. It is apparently on the bar menu, but they could make it for you here anyway. PERFECT. Huge & delicious. I will never fault an establishment for large portions! Then we had a wedge salad and a side salad. They have the wedge salad down perfectly: bacon, bleu cheese dressing - on the side! - nice! Then on the the mains - Beef stew and Prime rib. The beef stew had super homemade vibes. Meaty meat, potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, peas etc. YUM. We also had the prime rib - again with the fixins on the side, so you can easily banish the horseradish to where it belongs. Check out the photo for the significant size of this meat slab! WOW. Here's my problem: there were too many other dishes I wanted to try. The light-my-fire burger which has two cream-cheese-filled jalapenos on the burger! While staying in the area, I went to Sunset because of the rave reviews about their made in house chicken fried steak. I'm a sucker for a good CFS. When my dinner came, the CFS was huge on the plate. The coating/breading was good. However, the steak inside of it was 1/8ths of an inch thick. No kidding. The breading was twice as thick as the meat. And the temperature of the food was luke warm. The grilled vegetables were great. It was free pie night, and the Apple pie was really good. There were three really cute waitresses, too. read more

This stop we split an Elk Hunter's special... in-house corned beef topped with eggs cooked as requested, and hollandaise sauce. The plentiful corned beef was flavorful, and combined with the sauce and over-medium eggs, a great find. We will definitely do this again. The service was good, and the price reasonable if you split this hefty meal. For you corned beef lovers, stop here and enjoy.
