After a cool 50 miles of normal Phoenix-to-Casa Grande traffic, I reached the only reason for driving out that far: cheap gas! But alas, upon my arrival, I didn't find a bustling station with the cheapest prices in the greater Phoenix area. Instead, I found a chain-link fence surrounding the entire property. You may wonder why so much energy is being put into this particular problem. Well, when gas in your local area is at a premium--between $4.15 and $4.69--a price of $2.99 a gallon yields a savings of $17.40 to $25.50 on a 15-gallon tank. Just look at the picture. Not one pump would accept a credit card -- no matter what kind. Wonder why? Well, bottom-feeders like Flying J have learned that if an attendant (inside) uses your credit card to authorize gas being pumped, they can charge $170 for "pre-authorization" charges and while the law specifies that these charges must be reversed, they can and do hold onto the funds as long as possible. We stopped here for gas on December 9 while driving to Tucson to have our car warranty service done, and as of March 22, they still had not refunded the "held" funds. Local station personnel claim that's the fault of their corporate offices -- just try to speak with someone at their corporate offices! We've left messages weekly since Dec 23, and the charges have yet to be refunded. Just imagine 100 customers a day paying these fees -- which are supposed to be refunded -- and keeping these funds for months! Do this nationwide... Thieves. Came in to shower and layover for the night and clerk 664 was very nice. I waited for a while for the shower number to come up but come to realize all showers needed to be clean and no numbers were called. Went back to the clerk and she just said she was the only one there and couldn't do anything about, but she just kept selling the numbers for showers to other customers. Don't stop at this garbage business. They will place a hold on your card for $150 for any gas you purchase. They say it is released the next day but it is not. Avoid if you can. read more

Worst gas station to possibly stop at along this corridor of the I 10. It is run down and quite ghetto and gross and none of the gas pumps outside accept credit card. You have to pre-pay inside. Not to mention there is no notice of the pumps not accepting cards or being broken. read more

Got a shower here, paid 18 bucks for it, a cold water shower is what I got, also no power outlets work, no fan etc. told the lady at the front desk, she couldn't care less. What a rip off. read more

Flying J (Pilot) are always great to stop at for fuel, breaks, snacks or souvenirs. They usually have one of the common eating places connected to them and they are generally good. From time to time some need a little TLC, but generally they're ok. If you have a rewards card you can get special offers, and 3¢ off of every gallon of gas at the pumps. It's not much, but every little bit helps. read more

Went in at 6am to get coffee and something to hit and quick to eat, not one of the coffee dispensers had coffee in them, there was only the 2 automatic coffee dispensers. No Dunkin' Donuts coffee like they have advertised nor one Dunkin donut to be found. Food... No pizza. No wrapped up pre-made breakfast sandwich was to be found. At 6am I was really shocked considering there was tons and tons of trucks at this location. Saw 4 workers there, one wiping down the case but my question is why is there no food? Crazy. Don't bother stopping here to get a quick hot meal. Now if you have time there is a 24 hr Dennys but not everyone has the luxury of taking an hour to eat. read more

Went in three times to get attendant to pump propane. "He will be right out" was the response each time. Last time I went in the response was "The manager says we are not pumping propane today." An hour my time and 20 wasted miles. Never Flying J again. read more

WORST Flying J EVER. I hate this place. If today is typical of how things are here, I won't ever return if I can help it. I went in to pay for fuel this morning, and there was ONE cashier lane open - the line was about 10-15 deep. After waiting forever and getting through the line, I went out and fueled, and then parked my rig so I could go inside to eat and shower. First, I wanted to pick up my fuel receipt so that I wouldn't forget before I left. There now were 2 cashiers, but each line was about 7-10 deep. I waited for a few minutes before giving up in disgust. I stopped to use the restroom on my way into Denny's, and out of the generous THREE stalls, one was Out of Order, leaving only two toilets for women in this whole "Travel Plaza." Both were in use, and there was another person ahead of me. I went to Denny's, and sat down. My co-driver joined me, we ordered, then I returned to the bathroom. Still a line. After eating at Denny's (which was fine - both the food and the service were good), and finally using the bathroom, I went back to get my fuel receipt. 2 cashiers, and there was one line about 15 deep waiting for whichever opened first. When I was next in line, I went over to the cashier I thought would be the next open, but she had a "Lane Closed" sign up. So I went back to the line, and when the 2nd cashier finished her customer, I approached, and SHE ALSO had a "lane closed" sign up! I stood there, and she ignored me while she did something else. Finally, I turned her sign around to face her, and pushed it toward her. She glared at me. I asked "Are you really closed?!" She sighed and said "I guess I can help you." I exclaimed "You're the only cashier!!" She motions toward the other, and said "She's open." I said "No, she has her 'lane closed' sign up too!" I got my receipt and left. I planned to shower here, but the idea of waiting in that line YET AGAIN for a shower, and then presumably waiting for a shower also, was just too much for me to take at this point. I'll shower at the next stop. Also? This place is ROASTING inside. I was soaked through by the time I left. This is Arizona. Have you not heard of Air Conditioning? I don't care if it's January. Hot is hot, no matter when it is. I'm not even a "time is money" trucker. I'm pretty relaxed and patient. But I know for most, wheels rolling is your priority. If that is the case, you will be nothing but angry and frustrated trying to use this Flying J. read more

First gas pump had non-working buttons. Moved to another pump and buttons were still not registering entries - got gas, but was a pain. Windshield washing fluid left scum on windows. I will avoid stopping here again. read more

It's a truck stop but one with a kitchen for food,not going to say great food because it's not but,if you need fuel and hungry and need a wizz break then it's all here...I will say there pizza is not bad if you buy the whole pie,the slices can get greasy as the sit in a warmer but,it fills the void all in one stop on a road trip..trust me here,a truck stop I know I use to drive OTR for years and years so I've seen my share from coast to coast,if I give one a crap review then it's really bad. read more
