Came here for dinner recently and enjoyed myself. Service was solid throughout my meal. The beer selection was pretty darn good, with a lot of Belgian options (yay). I grabbed the Big Dipper roast beef sandwich for my entree and it was prepared quickly and was very tasty! Everything was priced reasonably well. Not sure what else to add, but if you're into drinking beer and eating decent bar food, I think Flying Saucer will hit the mark. read more

Stopped in on a Wednesday night as a 6 about 6 pm without a reservation. The bar, most table and booths were filled with patrons so we found an empty one and sat ourselves. Plates adorn the ceiling and walls with past customers drinking achievements. Our server came by right away to drop menus and start a drink order. The beer menu is vast so that took a minute to make a choice. Drinks all around then onto entrees of Hot Mama Pizzas, Carne Asada Fries, Saucer Burgers and a Big Dipper. We loved the amazing and GIANT beer and tap list at this location. They have hundreds of beers from around North Carolina as well as other parts of the United States. I loved the Trophy Play Ball Pilsner, which was a limited release in the "Bring MLB to Raleigh" movement. They run great beer deals all the time and if we lived in town we would for sure be part of their UFO Club to track what beers we have tried!! An upscale brew house at medium scale prices. A nice open room to try their dozens of beers (hopefully not all at once). And even with food! My friend got the Loaded Rocket-Tots. Jalapeños in the potato, fried with cheddar Jack and topped with goat cheese, some bacon and onions. He assigned 5 stars to the food (and got a second one, it was so good), I assign 5 stars to the beer selection. Only minus: A little foamy on our pours. The flying saucer is one of the most unique venues I have come across in Raleigh yet. Much like the "Lone Gunmen", their vibe isn't flashy or mainstream but rather a speak easy style environment. One that is altogether unique, softly lit and equipped with cozy spaces to sit and have an intimate conversation. No need to belly up to the bar, this is a full service establishment that serves a great drink. Apparently they are well known for their pursuit of the great craft beer, fortunately for me they also produce a wonderful Old Fashioned. Had a server named "Matt" the bill came back as "Matthew C." He is probably the most unbearable person I've ever met. He is beyond condescending in the most obvious way. Never been to a place where a server thinks good service is being a snobby hipster that tries to make you feel dumb. Atmosphere was really cool and there was a bartender who let me try a sour and he was a super cool and helpful guy. After leaving here I had bumped into a couple other locals who knew exactly who I was talking about. Someone needs to intervene, I would bet my money when you do he will scoff and attempt to make some type of smart comment. read more

Wow! Who knew this was such a hidden gem in Raleigh?? The interior is decorated really cool, but the outside patio was also a great vibe to be on. Our server was kind and quick, and the food itself was really tasty. We tried the pretzels, chicken fingers (named differently) a dessert, and beers. The soft pretzels and honey mustard were definitely our favorites, but like I said we liked it all. The beer selection was really great, we specifically enjoyed our two sours. I have been here so many times (usually for drinks) but this time it was just for food. You seat yourself when you arrive and our waiter arrived quickly and brought us waters. The menu is fairly small but there was a little extra secret menu that isn't online. I ended up ordering the rice bowl off the secret menu. Husband ordered the chicken parm sandwich with fries. The place was over the top noisy with all the Christmas parties. Glad it wasn't a first date because we could hardly hear each other. My food was good if a little bland. Husband liked his. Basic bar food. Most importantly our server was attentive and efficient and we were in a hurry to make a seven o'clock show so we really appreciated that. This place is great for beer. Tuesday night at the Flying Saucer is trivia night and they get a good crowd. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Our server greeted us quickly and gave us the menus for both food and beer. They have over 100 different kinds. The saucers all over the walls and ceiling tell you that many many beers have been sampled. I got the chicken philly which came with fries (they were cold when they arrived). My wife got the Reuben and a side salad. The Reuben was loaded with lean corn beef, sauerkraut and served warm. This restaurant is located downtown Raleigh so parking can be tough depending on the time that you visit. There is street parking and paid lots nearby. We found street parking but had to walk a few blocks. We came on a Saturday evening and were able to be seated right away. There is indoor and outdoor patio seating available. The restaurant is uniquely decorated with saucers on the walls. If you try a certain numbers of their drinks you can get your name on a saucer after paying an $18 fee. Our server was very helpful in helping us choose ciders and beers. They had a special for certain ciders for $4 so I got a tropical punch cider. It was really tasty. We got a large pretzel for our appetizer with sides of nacho cheese and chive cream cheese. The nacho cheese was really good. The cream cheese was different but didn't have a distinct taste that I expected. The pretzel was served hot and was buttery. It was really good. I definitely would get it again. The pizza was also good. We got an order of Isa wings from the special menu. The wings were served with carrots, celery, and salad dressing. The wings were a little too salty but weren't lacking other seasoning. I would return to sample more of the menu items. read more

What a funky little dive. We loved it! The beer selection is vast. Tap, Can, Bottle, you pick. The food was rather tasty too. We had the Chicken and Brats. Super good. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating for whatever the season. The decor and ambiance is just wickedly cool. Service was Top Shelf. So... I thought this was just a Memphis pub but as it turns out they have several locations. I was here during St. Patrick's day and I wasn't disappointed. First of all, they know how to serve a good pint. +1 for the great Guinness pour. The pretzels are outstanding and worth a try. The service was excellent too! Also, the signature saucers are spread across the ceiling --just like I'm used to. Parking is not great on the street, but the pay lot right next door is fine. Overall a solid place! read more

Despite this last experience being two stars, I will be back. This place is a fun hit or miss. I was there this past Wednesday on the patio with a friend. It was raining but comfortable and peaceful. We decided not to drink and ordered the buffalo pizza and I got the garden salad. The pizza was so salty it kind of burned your mouth. I kept taking bites wanting to believe it was the buffalo sauce, but a creamy salad dressing will neutralize that kind of spice and that didn't work. I really loved the garden salad. It was topped with a thick layer of pretty tasteless white cheese but once you got past that, delicious. The biggest issues are the sodium content of the pizza and the service. I got the distinct impression our server did not like us. I fought my way through the salty pizza with one glass of water that didn't get refilled. The indifference I felt from the server was uncomfortable. Maybe they were also taking care of the entire dining room, but I would be surprised judging by the speed they moved. I would never sit in that person's section again or order the buffalo chicken pizza but like I said, it's just hit or miss. read more

What an awesome experience I had my first time at Flying Saucer! I was visiting my sister in Raleigh and she insisted we go here. We were not disappointed!! Our server, Cat, was beyond phenomenal. She was sweet, charming, attentive, and wonderful with the kids! We ordered wings, pizza, salads, and a German platter and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals (kids included! Wahoo!). They have a super cool program where you sign up and when you get to 200 beers, you get your name on a saucer and get to put it on their wall or ceiling. Went out for St Patty's Day and had a blast! The drinks were good and my pizza was amazing! I have the taco pizza that's was a little spicy and my friends out loaded fries which were top notch! Service was decent, checked on us a couple times but wasn't overbearing. Ambiance was a little loud but to be expected because of the holiday. I hadn't been here in years. I recall enjoying the food previously. I dropped in for a bite before heading home. The pub was clean and spacious with many places to sit. There is a lounge area with a couch and outdoor patio area. This is a unique place and ideal for beer lovers as they offer over 300 beers. I could see this being a beer lovers dream. Gabs was our server. Gabs was nice, professional and helpful. I ordered the Kick Ass Chicken sandwich with a salad as my side. The food was delicious. Everything was flavorful. These were one of the best side salads which had olives and mushrooms in it as well as the usual greens, cheese, and tomatoes. I loved this combination. read more

I haven't been to the Flying Saucer since, well, pre-pandemic. Two weeks ago we stopped in after attending two college open houses. Yes two, Wake Tech & NC State! So, a late lunch and some refreshments were in order. This place is really cool and eclectic. It's an establishment you would normally see in a places like New York, Philly and Boston. The saucers on the walls and ceiling give the interior a nice character. The bar is also long and "old school" and gives you that old bar feel. Which is something you normally don't see here. Now on to the food and beer. The beer list is extensive with many craft selections from in state and out. They offer wine with a nice selection on the menu. I went with the Bob's Octoberfest. Kiddo went with the root beer. Side note, if I do a follow up review a couple of years from now and he's with me, I'm sure his beverage selection may be something else. But I digress. The food here is of the comfort / tavern variety. But, it's very very good. We had the chips with queso and salsa. Kiddo went with the Chicken Caesar Wrap. I had the French Dip (roast beef & Gouda). I haven't had a "dip" in awhile and I enjoyed it. Flying Saucer is definitely a bookmarked spot for me in downtown Raleigh. Just be aware that parking can be tough at times particularly on weekends. When we went, Galaxy Con was going on at the convention center a few blocks away so the area was busy as well as the other establishments. The people watching was epic to say the least. read more

I was there with my GF in August, so to get out of the heat for a bit and enjoy a cold one or two was great. Wow, not only do they have an amazing selection of beer, but they have the most knowledgable bartenders and servers who it comes to beer. Honestly, I've not four too many places with the knowledge these folks had. I was blown away! The atmosphere is laid back with some disc golf stuff, which I thought was super cool. The only downside was the giant BIDEN banner with their BIDEN coozie promotion ... and this was after Harris took over, so they had a picture of her mug on there with Harris cookies coming soon. When walking in on a Monday 10/27/25 it was obvious the place has fallen apart. The bartender looked annoyed. Our waiter was completely disengaged and the system was down for my "BeerKnurd" card. 0h yes, You must try the Warsteiner Dunkel German Lager. This brown lager is crisp and clean with a touch of roasted malt in the nose. It has great balance with a slight hop bitterness, but the malty sweetness rounds out the flavor nicely. This beer has a clean finish. Ask for Ian for excellent service. Das ist ein Gericht aus Brat- oder anderer Brühwurst, die ganz oder geschnitten! Try the German meal with two German "Berliner" style bratwurst sausages one white and one brown, German sauerkraut, German warm potato salad, a German style pickle spear, delicious German crusty bread, German mustard, German horseradish, and of course, a delicious Warsteiner Dunkel German Beer. I used to think Heaven was a set of pearly gates, reserved for an absolute few; tonight I learned that Heaven's here on Earth amongst the people we meet and the times we have with them; friend or stranger alike. 10PM on Labor Day and Bro and I wanted grub and some beer.
