Stopped by Whiskey Kitchen for drinks after eating nearby. When you arrive parking can be a little difficult in this area as you'll either need to parallel park or find parking in a nearby lot. Walking in to Whiskey Kitchen it feels easy going, stylish, and lively. The bartender was super knowledgeable about the different drinks and made the experience even more memorable, For drinks I ordered the Old Fashioned (Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon, Sugar, Bitters, Orange), Twist of Fate (Old Forester Bourbon, Campari, Averna Amaro, Jamaican Rum, Bitters), and the Blush & Brimstone (Cook's Mill Bourbon, Pink Peppercorn Grapefruit Syrup, Lemon-Ginger Juice, Rosemary Peppercorn Bitters). By far the Blush & Brimstone was my favorite as it had the right level of spice and it was just a good drink. Definitely check out Whiskey Kitchen if you are in the Downtown Raleigh area. We have been to Whiskey Kitchen before and normally have a good experience, but today was disappointing. We ordered the Lamb Burger and the WK Burger with bacon. The Lamb Burger was incredible the last time we had it, but today it came out closer to medium-well and was overcooked and very dry. The WK Burger was much better. It was juicy, flavorful, and the bacon was a good addition. The collard greens were also delightful, with just the right amount of spicy kick. Unfortunately, the entire experience was overshadowed by the flies. There had to be at least 20 houseflies constantly buzzing around and pestering us throughout the meal. It was difficult to relax and enjoy the food. Whiskey Kitchen is normally a solid experience, but the excessive number of flies completely killed the mood today. If bourbon and whiskey choices were a personality trait, The Whiskey Kitchen would definitely have commitment issues...because the selection is massive. Seriously, if you can't find a pour you like here, you may just need water instead. Started with the biscuits topped with crackling and house-made preserves, and honestly, that combo alone made me question why I don't eat more biscuits in life. Sweet, salty, buttery chaos in the best way. For the main, I went with the pork chop and greens. The chop leaned a little overcooked for me personally, but the sauce helped bring things back together and added good flavor. The greens had a nice little kick of heat, but I kept waiting for that deep smoky ham hock flavor to show up like an old Southern grandma entering the kitchen... and it never quite arrived. Overall though? Still a solid meal, strong whiskey program, cool atmosphere, and definitely worth checking out if you're in Raleigh looking for a bourbon-forward dinner spot. I like the environment and the wait staff is always phenomenal, however this last time I couldn't eat my favorite thing on the menu (lamb burger) like so many other they amped the spice up. I originally thought it was the sauce which the waitress voluntarily remade but no the current chef is apparently fallen into the current dining trope of spicy is better to the point. I stopped by on my road trip from NJ to FL, having had plans to spend the night in Raleigh. My main criteria for a place to go for dinner was proximity to my hotel and something unique to the area, followed suspiciously closely by fantastic, perhaps southern-focused food. I let the bartender do his thing since there were far more rye and bourbon choices than I had time to absorb, and the balance of what was put in my glass was A+. + Hazy IPA - always a beautiful sight and it was a great second act to my old fashioned. It was local and delicious. + Crispy Chicken Sandwich with side salad - generously sized, incredibly crispy, and exactly what I was craving. The place itself is huge (with a nice outdoor space as well) but since I was a solo traveler I found a nice spot at the bar just fine. There's plenty of other menu to look over and by the looks of the other reviews you won't be disappointed. Please do take the time to absorb the enormous selection of lovely brown liquids. Wow! I said I'd come back but I didn't realize it had been 8 years! My husband Dan H and I had a great lunch with some friends today. We all shared an order of fries for the table, which were amazing. Then I got the grain bowl with shrimp, and everything was perfectly prepared and delicious. My husband enjoyed his biscuits and gravy with fried chicken- so tender and decedent. Our friends enjoyed their meal, too, and enjoyed the apple custard for dessert. Had such a great time at WK - and it lived up to the hype! I wish I could give this 10 stars! We've lived in Raleigh for about a year now and only visited once before making the move. While here visiting we were looking for a unique experience to end our trip. Per usual, I took to Yelp for some recommendations and Whiskey Kitchen's reviews caught my attention. On our first visit the weather was a cool early summer evening so we sat on the patio. We asked our server for her recommendations and she suggested the lamb burger or the fried chicken sandwich so we got both. I got the lamb burger was out of this world, it is now what I get every time we go and we go often! My husband got the fried chicken sandwich it is was ok, not bad I just think the lamb burger outshined it. We both got the Flores de Jalisco cocktail which is sooo yummy! This has become our favorite restaurant! There is not a bad seat in the house, we've sat at the bar, outside, in the dinning area and in the little enclave next to the hostess station. The space is filled with gorgeous murals from local artist, the service is ALWAYS stellar and well the lamb burger speaks for itself. The Anejo Old Fashion has become my new favorite drink although the Flores de Jalisco is a perfect summer cocktail. I'd also recommend the hummus for a light appetizer. Cheers! read more

A staple for me and late night cravings before heading home for the evening. I had the CBD Kaya Huckleberry a refreshing nightcap for a good nights sleep. I enjoyed eating here twice while visiting downtown Raleigh and absolutely cannot speak highly enough of the atmosphere at Whiskey Kitchen. It really adds to the meal and the gathering. I dined here once inside and once outside, and both were good experiences. Some of the dishes were a little salty, but I would still recommend just about anything here. Service was good both times, though I felt the inside service was even better, and that was with a much larger group of two combined tables. Outside was just three of us. One night I enjoyed the Pork BBQ Sandwich ($17) with the house BBQ sauce, creamy coleslaw, and a brioche bun. I had fries as the side. The other night I had the Lo-Fi Beets Salad ($14) with local greens, NC goat cheese, figs, radish, carraway, candied orange peel, toasted pecans, and a maple beet vinaigrette. I added a Crispy Chicken Breast ($7), which absolutely made the salad. This rating is based off on my first experience here for a wedding reception. I got the chance to try this place because it was one of my closest friend's reception in NC. It was very impressive! The cocktail drinks that they had were amazing! I can't confirm if it's on the regular menu or if it was specially made for the reception. Beautiful location and the restaurant was actually closed due to the private event. They did a fantastic set up where we ate on the outdoor patio, but they had the tent up and heaters on and we were definitely comfortable. The staff were fantastic and made sure that the guests were taken care of and if we needed anything else. I will definitely be stopping back here to try their regular menu. The catered food that we had were like Southern food and it was delicious. Anyways, left a really good experience and will have to stop here for a date. read more

Whiskey Kitchen is a staple for me, but I also wish some things were better... First, I found them capable of handling my party of 6 better than most places for brunch. Though sometimes we were seated outside, it still worked well. They also are one of the few places you can get w hot meal that's not fast food late. The downside is that they only cook half their menu after 10:00 pm. They make an excellent whiskey sour and the other drinks are good too. The food is ok. Hubby and I stopped in to Whiskey Kitchen for brunch a couple weeks ago. It was a Saturday afternoon and the place was busy but not packed. We were seated immediately upon arrival. The ambience of this place is lovely! I would call it garden rustic. There's a skylight panel gives the place wonderful natural lighting and the massive ficus trees add a nice home feel and brings seems to bring the ceiling down a bit in the very large space. The food was amazing! There kitchen is open next to the bar and you can see them prepping food. We watched so many delicious looking plates being passed to tables all around. When it was our turn, we were not disappointed by our choices. Hubby got the burger and fries and I got the biscuits and gravy with chicken. Everything was top notch and seasoned to perfection. Stopped in here right before a concert at a the Red Hat Amphitheater. One of the most amazing selections of Bourbon you can find with a huge book detailing each one. I've genuinely been to many top tier restaurants that didn't have even near the quality of service (and I'm very critical coming from the service industry) the server Ana greeted us within 2 min of seating with water... both our cocktails were perfectly balanced in every way. My wife had the Botanist and I had "I'll have another" and both drinks were perfect... the appetizers were incredible (again so perfectly balanced) we shared the Brussels sprouts and cracklin' biscuits... and again we were over the moon... finally our entrees arrived... Settled on burger, didn't ask how I wanted it cooked, came out way bloodier than I like, bread was extremely dry like the pack was left open (bartender said baker sends them like that lately), fries were delicious so I ate those and my holiday cocktail was amazing. Bartender took care of my food since I hated it. Previous to this one experiment I've always LOVED the flavors and care they put into their dishes. Hadn't had a disappointing plate up to this point. So I'm still giving them 5 stars unless I see this becomes their new normal. I love the ambiance of this place as well. It made me fall in love before I even put fork to mouth.
