Flyleaf is a beautiful cafe/bookshop that is stunning inside. The dark wood and carefully thought out decor is very inviting. A book lovers paradise. I was kind of sad to see people on laptops, there are so many amazing books to look and read here. Loved the unique seating arrangements. My friend and I snagged two leather chairs in a nook upstairs. We had a perfect latte, some reading and chatting. The only downside is the way the building is laid out you may have people hovering over you whole trying to browse books. With some reconfiguration that could be worked around. They do have a few food items but sadly nothing gluten free so I didn't try anything. There are some unique cocktails and wines on the menu and I could see coming later in the day for a glass of wine and a book. read more

Reserve the Reading Room on a Saturday morning for our Book Club. We had nine people with multiple orders and all the food was delivered correctly and quickly by Hannah. She was cheerful and efficient. The food was all delicious. I don't get photos of the drinks or the quiches, but they were also amazing. A bit pricy, but worth it for the setting, food and service. The room was a bit tight for nine, but we managed it. Two couches, two armchairs and multiple stools were available for seating in the Reading Room, along with a lovely fireplace. Wowwww STUNNING. The dark wood floor to ceiling bookshelves, the immaculate bar on the first floor, the several cozy fireplaces and reading nooks, and the food and drinks!!! I got a drink (called Mr. Darcy, no less), and it was just amazing to sit by the fire, read a book, and sip my drink. I want my future home to look exactly like this. Actually, maybe I'll just move in here. FYI, parking was a little weird. This was my first time in this area. The meters in the front of the shop only took coins but apparently the ones in the back were pay by app. We came at around 2PM on a weekday, and there were plenty of open spots. It definitely got pretty busy around 5PM though. And there were signs up saying no laptops after 5PM. read more

The wait is finally over! After over 3 years since its initial announcement, Flyleaf is opening its doors. The concept is truly unique, as it's a bookshop, bistro, and bar all in one. There are 3 levels: a nonfiction level, a fiction level, and the rooftop. The interior is beautiful, as it's both elegant and welcoming. All of the staff members were friendly and professional. As for the food, I only tried the deviled eggs and butterscotch pot de crème, but both were delightful. The deviled eggs were topped with whitefish, roe, cucumber, and herbs. The butterscotch pot de crème was both savory and sweet. Everything I saw come out of the kitchen looked delicious, as well. This is a great addition to The Hill in Grosse Pointe Farms. read more

Horrible Manager.. Horrible Experience. Not really for Black people. First of all the iced Macha latte was horrible, it tasted like foam milk.. I was told you can't use your laptop in this store so I packed up to leave, I asked if I could return the latte since I only took two sips & they were kicking me out for wanting to work. The manager tried her hardest to argue me down & not be accommodating .. telling me she was going above & beyond because her employee did not give me a receipt & she didn't have to give me my money back & no other business would give someone money back on a product they bought in front of their eyes while the employee who sold it to the person was standing right there & could verify. I would give zero stars if I could. I'm tired of these micro aggressions. I was not upset & did not exhibit any of the Angry Black Woman trope that they are trying to imply.. The manager refused to return the latte several times before finally returning it with the help of her associate.. she was being difficult & talking very dismissively & down to me. I kept telling her I just want my money so I can go & she kept trying to make me take a voucher to come back. Like.. why would I ever want to come back to this Racist Establishment.. crazy. She's lying under this post saying I said the drink tastes like dirt, I simply said it was disgusting.. there was no attempt at making me another drink.. the first drink they made me was a coffee that I didn't even ask for. Five stars for the amazing concept that flyleaf has brought to grosse point farms - I love the concept of a chic bookstore, cafe, and libations all in one! I truly wish there were more flyleaf locations in metro Detroit as it's a wonderful idea and I loved visiting. The seating here is limited and if you come here in a weekend be prepared to have to wait for a spot to open up to sit or stand. I came in around 2:15 pm ish on a Saturday and there was nowhere to sit down unfortunately but I was able to get a delicious seasonal latte to go which had vanilla, cinnamon and an orange peel flavor in it and was strong and sweet but not too sweet (plus 3 shots of espresso = winning!). When I came in apparently food wasn't being served any longer ? Not sure when food service stops / kitchen may close at 3pm on a weekend is my guess so just know that and no pastries were on display in the window so I missed that also. I loved seeing the cool variety of cups, coffee, cards, books, totes, cookies for sale as it is all displayed in a manner which is very appealing even if you have to sneak behind people's tables just to get a peek as space is somewhat limited here. I did love seeing the cozy fireplaces here and hope there will be another location coming at some point. Don't forget to also bring coins for the street parking as the meters are old school. Anyways I definitely loved this place and would come back, I hear weekdays are better to visit during during the day as they are less crowded. I just would be cautious of coming with a bigger group as I'm just not sure if reservations can even be made. read more

Instagram brought me here..and it was totally worth the drive! The ambiance is a cozy old school with almost speak easy vibes. Theres two levels with floor to ceiling book shelves filled with stationary, candles, bags, and of course books! The books are all new copies and prices are standard retail. Theres multiple various places to sit and read, chat, or enjoy some of their drinks and food. We went during a busy weekend time and only waited around 10 minutes for a 3-top table. I had a Beach Read cocktail which was mezcal, agave, and apricot liqueur. The food during our menu time didn't consist of traditional entrees, but plenty of shareables to try (or keep for yourself!) We ordered the wagyu flatbread, charcuterie board, and house cut fries. We loved everything! Despite having a lot going for the retail, bar, and restaurant, you could tell most everything was house-made and prepared by order. There was a mix up with which board we ordered so we ended up with a complimentary cheese board which was very generous of them! Our server, Lauren, was an absolute GEM! She was so sweet, attentive, and offered so much insight on the various books we picked out. She was a delight to chat with during our visit. The only con is that merchandise is located behind tables and other sitting areas. When you are eating there are multiple people coming up to look at the things around you and vice versa, when you are browsing, you have to stand next to people eating and chatting with their table. It can be a little awkward, but I went with the mindset that this would be the situation and it's just unavoidable. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back! Experienced an odd encounter with staff on 9/6/25 Saturday morning around 11am. My boyfriend and I walked in, were not greeted and ignored while waiting to order at the bar. Customer service was such a turn off, because we eventually noticed it was just us that were ignored as the workers "enthusiastically" greeted other customers upon entry. The selective treatment felt personal and it's so not what I came for. My enjoyment of books will never lead me to spend a dollar at this place again. read more

My friend Betsy told me about this bookstore and I read the review. Immediately, it was on my bucket list. I was in St Claire Shores today for work and realized it was only 20 minutes away. So off I went through horrible construction on Moross, a few detours, I found it in beautiful downtown Grosse Point Farm. I felt like I stuck out like a sore thumb, dressed in scrubs and being a farm girl. I held my head high, went in for an adventure, feeling super guilty Betsy wasn't with me. It is unique. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. There are tables here and there and a bar to the left right when you walk in. There were many well dressed people eating avocado toast, sharing Charcuterie boards while sprawled out on couches. Some on their laptops with their plugs across the floor. Where were the books? BEHIND ALL THESE PEOPLE! I felt like I was intruding on intimate lunches and drinks with friends because you have to go sideways behind them to see the books. Or say excuse me, excuse me to get to the cookbook section that was on the lowest shelf and I sat on the wooden floor to get a good look at the books. Finally, I gave up, grabbed a book on menopause and flipped through it while ear hustling conversations at the different tables. That was awesome! I loved the bathroom. It was beautiful, the toilet paper was individually wrapped in polka dot paper with stickers saying I don't give a crap. No one approached me to see if I needed anything or wanted a cocktail . I did buy a cool cook book, a very unique 5 year one sentence journal and some long matches. It was an adventure all right, I felt like the town collectively gave a sigh of relief when I headed home to the farm. read more

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Flyleaf a year ago. Our first experience was amazing, we booked a reservation by the fireplace, the drinks were good, the service was attentive. Our second encounter, was met with service that didn't exist. It felt selective to tables who were larger and possibly would come with a larger tip? My boyfriend and I sat for 2 hours with only seeing our waitress once. Given we thought it was just a busy day, we gave it another go. We made a reservation 2 days in advance for a reading nook. We got there and they told us there is no reading nooks available and they gave us a "high top" table. We came with the intention to relax in a comfy chair and read. This was not achievable. We then witnessed a solo male be seated at 2 separate reading nooks in front of our eyes. This combined again with service that was non existent. We ended up having to approach the bar to get our check. Where then, the hostess came rushing over trying to smooth over the bad experience. Unfortunately, you won't be getting our business again. I will be letting people know to find somewhere that gives consistent service, to every patron and a consistent experience overall. That was not found here. read more

A beautiful new bookstore/cafe in Grosse pointe. We were here on a Saturday at two and it was completely jammed so if you want to get into this place, you may have to wait a while. We were lucky and got a table pretty fast. But even on the whole second floor, I couldn't find anything at first! We only had a redeye and a Matcha latte. So I can't speak to the food but I did see some people eating quiche and it looked good. Would like to try some of their menu items next time. Friendly staff, and just a great ambience inside. My friends and I went to Flyleaf last year when they first opened and had a great time. We finally came back and were so excited to have another good time (we live 45 minutes away). Every waitress was rude to us, and the customers were even more rude. People were holding seats for their friends that was "30 minutes away" and "parking now" (real comments that was said to my friends and I). This coffee shop doesn't have much seating to begin with, and it's first come first serve seating. The waitresses had an attitude when we finally found a seat and added another seat to our table for our friend, and claimed we cannot move seats around. 20% gratuity is already added to the bill, which doesn't make sense because it is a coffee shop??? They have a wide selection of books and locally sourced book and coffee themed gifts available. The chef changes the menu seasonally, and most ingredients are sourced locally. Love this newish addition on the Hill. The food, cocktails and service are always on point. It's a great place to buy books and I love some of the other items they sell - especially that they stock Detroit Rose candles. I typically stop in mid-day or afternoon. The few times I've been after 8pm, I'm always surprised at how bright it is inside compared to other local bars and restaurants. Granted, it's a book store so it makes sense! But even the 3rd floor patio has pretty bright lights. It's not my preference, but I certainly understand that some people are looking for brighter bar/cocktail vibes. read more
