I asked our cashier, "Joe," if I could enter my phone number for any discounts or to accumulate points toward membership benefits, and he rudely said, "It's too late." When I asked what he meant, he repeated that it was too late because the store was closing and he couldn't allow me to enter my number, even though it wasn't 7 p.m. yet, the store was still open, and there was still a line of customers checking out. I wasn't asking for anything complicated, just to enter my number on the keypad right in front of him, ring up our items, and check out. I also asked if my mother could sign up for a membership, since I'd been raving about this store and she was excited to join. He said no to both. I was genuinely confused because he seemed annoyed with us, and we hadn't done anything to him. Confused, I asked for a manager. It wasn't a miscommunication, since Joe spoke perfect English. I just genuinely didn't understand the refusal. While waiting, I overheard another cashier explaining the day's color-tag discounts and promotions to a different customer. Joe never offered us any of that information. We were met with rudeness and dismissiveness from him. When the manager came over, she had an attitude and talked over me as I tried to explain what was going on. She said Joe meant "there's no deals on Sundays" and pointed to the sign. I told her I already knew that, I can read, and I've been a member there for years. I was trying to explain that Joe had refused to let me enter my phone number, sign my mom up for a membership, or tell us about the color-tag discounts, claiming it was too late because the store was closing , even though there were still people in the store. The manager's response was that if we needed discounts, we should come back Monday through Thursday, which missed the point entirely and left my mother and me feeling like we'd been stereotyped as customers who were only there for discounts. I've shopped at this store for years and brought my mother because I wanted her to love it as much as I do. Instead, the visit left us feeling dismissed and stereotyped over what should have been a simple, friendly interaction. Joe and the manager were rude and unwelcoming, which made us so uncomfortable. A little patience and basic courtesy would have made all the difference. Please work on your customer service.

When you have small feet and easily wear both adult and kids sizes, it's hard to find most shoes in your size. Imagine that! I became a regular at the store and sadly moved away in the beginning of 2025. But I still purchase items for work through them because the prices cannot be beat. FMJ is like no other military surplus store I've ever been to. The selection is better than anything I've seen. Over the years I've collected many different items. Some for work, others for my home office collection. But every time I enter the store, for better or worse I always leave with something. They stay busy on social media as well and are very interactive. Check them out on Instagram if you have one, sometimes you can see some of the surplus on there before it hits their shelves. Easiest 5/5 stars I've ever given. Next time I'm in the DMV I will be stopping by. It's tradition at this point.

One of the attendants happily pointed us to the the kids section, which also has a lot of discounted shoes. There were a good amount of shoes in various sizes but not a distinct boys & girls area. All the kids shoes seem to be consolidated and organized by general sizes. In the end, we wound up getting new pairs of shoes for our 4 kiddos because the discounted shoes on top of the store's sale was a deal we couldn't pass up. The attendants were also very sweet and offered our kids some free stickers.
