Some negative reviews are very surprising & I strongly disagree. The pub is an old fashioned pub. It's a local place where, when I enter, I see & say hello to neighbors like John, Mike, Dan, Patrick & others. In other words, it's a local place where you're welcomed & treated very respectfully. Flynn's embodies the very definition of a local pub and is one of many in the "Little Dublin" string of Irish Pubs stretching from Woodside to Sunnyside. Away from all the bustle of Queens Blvd, Flynn's is a drinking locale situated along the much quieter Skillman Ave. They boast affordable drinks, friendly bartenders, and a very charming outdoor patio space. The vibe is very much a drink and enjoy the game kind of feel and there are plenty of regulars here, at least before the pandemic started. The interior feels a bit tight when there are a lot of people inside, which I gather is not much of a thing anymore given the current times. Make nice with the bartenders and they'll poor a nice stiff one. When there are sports on TV, this place isn't such a bad place to catch a game. It's sort of fun to watch the crowd get riled up over everything from pitiful Knicks basketball to an international football (aka soccer) game. The real draw is that back patio, which despite being small is easily the greenest in the neighborhood. I remember back in the day they had a grill for folks to use. As my pub crawl pal was scurrying hither and thither in his old stomping grounds, I assumed the choice spot at the bow (ship term) of the bar. After a bit of choice time yucking it up with the owner and partner in crime still MIA, my attention turned to the back patio area and thustly I proceeded to the rear. Events and food consumption being what they are, food will not find a place on this review but my eventual update most certainly will. Echoing my sentiments from previous Woodside Irish bars, there is no higher level of service and care for the customers experience. Every soccer game imagined on the Telly's. Mets and Yankees fan sit side by side as we debate the DH rule. The staff here are great and can be considered unemployed comedians. Truly a great time. The first time I went to this place I honestly wanted to walk out but I gave it a second chance.I ordered a drink. The bartender Chris was what made this establishment. HONESTLY. She was AMAZING, and they will never be able to find anyone better. She poured like a champ and her drinks were delicious.I recently went there and found she no longer works there. I've stopped by a few times during pub crawls. It's a real quiet, local bar. No food, only drinks. But there's a lot of seating and a few televisions up as well. There's a small back patio, and I think the bar lets you use the BBQ if you bring the food. Pretty sure there's also some boxes of Scrabble and dominos laying around as well. Very fun place to hang out. The garden out back is lovely and there's a grill they let you use. It's a not a huge space (4 tables) but you can have a really nice BBQ with a group of friends. Inside was nice, but maybe a bit off-putting. We were there on a sunday afternoon, so it's not the ideal bar time (for some). It was very quiet and just a few locals at the bar. The bar selections are standard and classic. Stick to the basics and you'll be fine. read more

Remember Cheers, "where everybody knows your name"? That is our Flynn's! A bar full of regulars, but always welcoming to newbies as well. If you are not from Sunnyside and want a feel of the local atmosphere, you will find it here. There is a beer garden, (closes at 10:00pm), and plenty of room for parties, which is perfect and where we will be for this year's Superbowl. From a lazy Sunday to New Year's Eve, we've always had a wonderful time, and have been coming here for years! I am not sure about some of the bad reviews, there is not a bar in Sunnyside, or anywhere, that does not have people smoking in the front, that is where people have to go, and as for fired bartenders, the bar is doing just fine without them. Having been out of town on business I returned to my favorite haunt on July 4th to find the character and charm was sadly missing from this place. A disastrous and ill advised staff change has pulled back the curtain on what was once charming and quirky to what in reality is just an old man gin mill: - the AC is never on...when I walked in there appeared to be an actual "London Fog" in the place it was so steamy - the chairs are wet and damp, the floor in disrepair, the bar sticky - the stench from the seldom cleaned men's room (with the dollar store toilet seat always broken and on the floor next to the throne) is like a right of passage to get to the outdoor garden. Hand-soap, who needs hand-soap... - one of the bartenders (maybe the owner) who always gives you the wrong change (always in the houses favor you understand), gets your order wrong, and won't spend money for a lime or two... - wet coasters used over, and over again, only thrown out when mold appears... - Christmas parties generously catered with 3 "$5 Foot Longs" and some chips...not even a salad... When I find out where that former employee lands, I'll let you know. For now, go a few blocks up the the Globe...at least you don't have to worry about Jack the Ripper when having a pint, and at least it's clean. read more

Absolute liars! They advertised they were playing EVERY game of the rugby world cup and they didn't play ANY!!!!! My husband went in to enquire and the old guy behind the bar was so ridiculously rude!!!!! I see other people have said in their reviews how rude he is and yet he still has a job!!!! What a joke. Pitiful and would not recommend to Satan himself to go here. The place itself stinks and a lot of times when we walk past we are accosted by all the revolting smokers out the front so even if you wanted to actually go here you get a lung full of acrid cigarette smoke as you walk in. A simple extabishment, this is an Irish bar with no pretense. Day time was full of regulars sitting and talking at the bar. The back was perfect for me to sit, write, and be left alone. Drinks were reasonably priced, $6 for a Guinness. They have a back yard area where you can smoke, or just enjoy some sunshine. I have no need to be treated as special, I just want a beer in a quiet ish space. I'm sure if I sat at the bar, I could have engaged in a pleasant conversation. read more

Came here on a Friday night looking for a chill place to have some drinks with friends. We passed by several Sunnyside bars that were loud and busy, and found this just as we were giving up. Cheap drinks, super friendly bartender, and games! Love Flynn's! It is the perfect local bar, a great place to head to after work to see my Sunnyside buddies, have a drink, and catch up. I moved to this quaint neighborhood, Sunnyside, about three years ago. Very charming. My friends from the city like to come out to visit, and stroll around, watching the squirrels frolicking amongst themselves, enjoying LIFE! It's so much fun to be able to show them these wonders. I live on 46th St. between Skillman and 39th Ave. A luscious block! So full of so many interesting people. We all say "Hi" to each other when we get coffee in the morning. The street is full of these beautiful trees, like a canopy over Wonerland! When I first moved here, I visited many of the restaurants, which have delish food. I also trolled around for a nice bar or pub to relax in at the end of my day. I tried several places, But my favorite was right down the street. It's called Flynn's Garden Inn. Everyone is so nice in there. The Irish girl who gave me a pint of Guiness, was so nice, and funny. a very witty girl. She had me chuckling. Also, the gentleman bartender, who I think runs the place, has so many amazing stories. Engage him if you get the chance. I wouldn't call the place "chic", but it sure has atmosphere! So many nice and interesting characters. I read a few negative reviews on the place, but I don't know what they were thinking, or if they were thinking at all. These three sadsacks must have had a bad day. I feel bad for them. I have only had wonderful times in there. Fun! I feel bad for these distraught souls, for they are missing out on a good time.
