They only except cash or debit (Maestro) / pin - not US Debit cards.

To make things worse they abdicated responsibility and left me to rectify their mistakes out of pocket. Please save yourself the financial and emotional expense and go to another salon.

I new at once arriving I was in a wonderful, clean and professional salon. After consulting with Brigette I decided to have her cut my hair as well. I was in dire need of a mani/pedi after a week of yachting in Croatia. To my delight, I was able to book an appointment online with only 90 minutes notice! I arrived one minute early, and ended up waiting only a couple of minutes and was greeted by a friendly face. They offered me a refreshment and I accepted a green tea they gave me on a nice little plate. A friendly black woman with long red braids gave me a pedicure. She did a really good job getting all the dry skin and calluses off my feet - if I was reviewing solely on this she would have received 5 stars. She did an average job with the rest of the pedicure with the exception of burning me very badly on the right side of my foot with the machine polisher thingy. She apologized and we continued. It wasn't a huge deal, and these things happen, so I wasn't terribly upset by it. Overall, for just the pedicure, I would have returned if not for the bizarre behavior of the Bulgarian (owner??). Now on to my manicure. It was one of the most bizarre, uncomfortable experiences I've ever had. I was given to another woman who asserted she had just returned from Bulgaria the day before. Her behavior can best be described as slightly veiled hostility. It was VERY clear she didn't want to be there and didn't care how I wanted my nails. She asked me if I wanted my nails short, and I said yes. When she asked me if they were short enough and I said I preferred them shorter, she told me that wouldn't be good. She eventually filed them slightly shorter, asked me again if they were short enough, and I responded I'd prefer them shorter but whatever. She didn't go shorter. To be honest, I just wanted my nails low enough to get rid of the white stuff at the top of my nails (pictures to follow). Anyways, she continued with my manicure and informed me not once, not twice, not three times, but FOUR TO FIVE times that the way I liked my nail was not good and "she didn't like it." I didn't realize I was paying over 60 euros for someone to insult the way I like my nails. She wasn't really saying it under her breathe, but I feel like maybe she thought that she was. It was truly irreproachable. I like my nails rounded, not straight up like a french manicure (I'm a straight male). Halfway through, she asked me if I liked my nails, and I responded no. She was aghast. I explained I wanted them rounded, and she again told me she didn't like them that way. I politely informed her that this is the way I like it, and I understand that she doesn't like them that way. I then informed her it was "unnecessary" to tell me so many times that she doesn't like my nails. Her hostility was oozing from her body language and words. The final thing she did was inquire if I wanted my nails shiny and I politely declined, adding that I thought they would look a bit feminine. For some reason, this offended her and she again was aghast. Overall, it was a painful experience from the most expensive mani/pedi I've ever received (I've had around 100 mani/pedi's). The hostility of this woman was pervasive and uncomfortable and I got the vibe the other women working there walked on eggshells around her. One last note, she made me bleed in 3 different spots on my nails and blamed my "dry skin" (I have oily skin, always have), and every time I started bleeding she'd get a huff and become angry.

There were not many other clients in the place (but to be fair, I went on a monday afternoon). The stylist I had was very good and new her job very well. She advised me well with what I wanted and I am super happy with the result. As it was my first time in that place, to promote their spa downstairs, they offered me a free of treatment (facial, manicure, foot massage) of 30 min. What I appreciated, is that it wasnt for the next time I come, but it was immediate after my haircut. I chose a manicure and I am ok with the result. The room is not as nice as upstairs. Its definitely not the best manicure I ever had, but it was a nice gesture and of course, in 30 min, not everything can be done. Finally, as I checked in on foursquare, I got a free bottle of shampoo ! What a nice afternoon full of pampering! I think I will return for my next haircut as also, the prices are very reasonable.

Was a bit grossed out that she used a metal spreader (looks like a cake spreader) for my legs and kept reusing in the wax. Unsure why as there were wood sticks next to the wax. Gross but I'm hoping it was my fresh wax and not used again. Certainly wouldn't have tolerated that for a bikini or other wax. The ladies were nice. The hygiene is just not up to my standards.

So points for patience and understanding what you want. Next, his technique takes care of details especially if you have short hair. I have short pixie hair cut and have tried various versions of it with him and they have been great. Moving on to color, again, I have tried different shades of color with him and it's always worked out well. And finally, the prices for both cut and color are reasonable so for a girl who needs a cut every 2 weeks, it works out well. Will I continue getting hair cut & color here? Yes. Do I recommend him? Best thing is that you can walk-in, which I did, and I was told to come back in 30 minutes. When I returned, they took me fairly quickly. If you find yourself in Amsterdam needing a nail salon, I highly recommend Crystal Nails. You should know in advance that they only take cash, and no credit/debit cards.

But in all seriousness, is pretty much a local hole in the wall place. I guess if you've never been to an actual professional salon, some people would think its a decent basic nail place.. Not even decent.. well for one, I am a professional nail tech myself. I gave the place the benefit of the doubt and gave it a try on a whim. I've been traveling for two weeks and needed mainly my foot scrubbed and massaged. There was also a huge language barrier and all I asked for was the pedicure. Which as advertised €20. I also had gel polish on from a prior treatment. (Was an extra €5 to remove.. ok sure.) They had no idea how to take it off except to scrape and file the gel off my nails down thin to where it was hurting and still is. The nail wasn't even buffed. It's rough as you'll see.. the cuticles not trimmed.. but honestly I was scared for her to even cut me so whatever. The skin around my nail beds is sensitive from so much filing, they trimmed my toe nails down very short to the quick, uneven and jagged.. I couldn't even complain. They didn't understand. So much happened and it was almost comical but traumatizing.. I remained calm and tried telling her I didn't need anymore servicing, ended up paying €31 instead of €20. PROS: None honestly.. By the end of my service, one lady there who is Thai did speak English.. (too late for me) CONS: It is an EXTRA €2 for Polish, no base or top coat either (Not included in pedi service) EXTRA €4 for a 5 minute Massage (also not included in the €20 service) €8 for 10 minute foot massage. And no gel/shellac options either. No actual pedicure chairs with tub, just a plastic cleaning bucket they bought, wrapped with plastic and filled with a little warm sink water.. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY unless your a minimalist of such things and just don't care about your toes nails.
