It was really convenient living close by as kids, and we always had generally good experiences with Dr Choi and Tran. However, since they moved locations, I've noticed a huge dip in their customer service/selection. I recently went in because my glasses broke (purchased a year and a half ago at Focus). I made an appointment and arrived on time and waited a bit, then was told I could go look at glasses and someone would be with me. Soon, one of the associates arrived and she had a sheet for my insurance. I told her multiple times that I had new insurance under my husband, and I insisted on seeing that sheet as well. She got another girl to print it out and then barely explained anything to me before walking away to help another customer. Regardless of the insurance, I felt like I wasn't a customer that they cared about. Not one smile, how are you, how can we help you. Instead they talked down to me and had no empathy for the fact that this was the THIRD pair of focus optometry glasses that have broken in the past ten years. I ended up selecting a frame that was cute and one of the associates told me those were no good. I ignored her and went to a different associate and asked for a price. Without telling me the price she told me those frames were discontinued and they no longer make them. I asked why they were on display and she shrugged and said that's why she put them up higher so nobody would grab them. So I asked alright, can I see glasses similar to these then? And she immediately points me to a locked case of Tiffany and Co / Gucci glasses like girl I know what you're doing. I ended up grabbing my broken glasses and I just left. Focus Optometry is simply the BEST. They used to be by the McDonald's on Dixon, but now they're right off of Montague. They've taken care of my son's eye needs since he was in the 1st grade! He's 17 now, and we wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. Their customer service is amazing, and they have a great selection of designer frames. This review rating is for the optician. The optometrist was fine. I got eyeglasses from Focus. Trying it for a few seconds at the store felt OK, but wearing it for 16+ hours daily everyday was painful. Went back Focus for adjustments several times with little improvement. The eyeglasses kept slipping down nose within hours of adjustment. Pushing nose pads closer caused deep marks on the nose. Besides, I could barely read certain words on TV screen. I searched on-line to find the root cause. I reviewed the frame sizes of all my old eyeglasses (I have many) and evaluated how each fit my face. I concluded that the frame I got from Focus was way too big for my face. The optician did not point out anything when I selecting the frame. I thought the frame could be adjusted to fit my face. It was not. I went to Costco and looked for those frames that matched my specific frame size. I got a new pair within a week. Once wearing it, I felt relief immediately. My nose no longer felt burdensome. I can read the TV display fully again while sitting at my usual spot. In fact, everything becomes clearer and sharper. I have no nose pain/marks since I started wearing the new Costco eyeglasses more than a month ago. I paid much less at Costco with no insurance than I did at Focus with insurance. The service of Focus optician is not worth it. read more

Don't get me wrong, the service was good and people were nice. But when it comes to pricing, I got really screwed, even with my insurance. I did the full service, eye exam to purchasing glasses with all the bells and whistles... ~$500. Months later, I was curious and decided to visit another optometrist to ask about the exact service and glasses with all the same bells and whistles... $120. How the hell did this place overpriced me even with insurance? I feel stupid coming here. If you want to save money, stay away from this place. Never again will I be going back here. read more

As someone who never really writes bad reviews, I felt that it would be a disservice for the public to not be aware of how terrible the service was at this office. When I first walked in, I was not greeted by the staff. However, I decided to overlook this because the staff was still friendly to me during the pre-test for my vision appointment. Things quickly changed after I began to talk about pricing with the assistant. Not only were they rude, but they would constantly talk over me as I tried to ask them questions. They never cared to explain anything, and everytime I would inquire a question, they seemed to become irritated and annoyed. It was difficult to get anything figured out because not only were their accents heavy, but their attitude towards me was extremely displeasing. One of the assistants told me that I would initially have time to do the contact lens service and pick out a pair of glasses, but by the time I found a pair of frames that I liked, she complained and said I took too long to pick it out, and I would not be able to have the contact lens service today. It would have been nice if she had informed me earlier about the time issue, instead of waiting for me to find out after I picked out a lens. On top of that, while I was picking out frames, the assistant would get annoyed easily when I asked to see frames, and ended up just walking away to her desk towards the end. Really recommend going somewhere else for your vision needs- the optometrist was overall nice and informative, but the assistants with poor attitude overall made the visit extremely unpleasant. They belittled my questions and overall left me feeling dissatisfied. read more

Great doctor and stellar customer service from both Dr. Taylor Tran and Christie. I have been going to Focus for many years since they were on N. Milpitas Blvd for my vision exams and contact lens fitting with Dr. Tran. I feel that she was very thorough with my exams each time and took the time to answer all my questions. I am so impressed with the stellar customer service from Christie. She's so nice and really listens to your concerns. I called in yesterday because my contact lens Rx was written in error for AirOptix HydraGlyde clear lens when it should be for color, and Christie was able to resolve the problem for me and literally within mins I received the correct Rx via email. She's now my other main reasons aside Dr Tran, for continuing to use Focus for my vision needs because I was not too impress w/ the other staff members' customer service (and you know who you are...poor explanation of charges and not responsive to emails). read more

I've been going to Dr Taylor Tran for many years. I have had many issues with my eyes over the years. Taylor has always been patient and thorough. The last major issue was retinal detachment in 2022. Taylor identified the issue and immediately found a specialist to see me the same day. The issue was so severe that a day and half later i went into emergency surgery. I believe her thorough examine and quick action contributed to saving my eye. I recommend Taylor not only for her professionalism and skills, but also her friendly demeanor. read more

5 stars for Dr. Tony Toy. I recently got my eyes checked out here and was very happy with the visit. Tony is very knowledgeable and extremely sociable. He knows his stuff and is more than happy to explain things to you. I also like that peripheral vision test they always give. It's the closest thing to playing a video game while at a doctor's appointment. They have a wide selection of stylish frames and even better, they have up-to-date sunglasses. I was more than happy to get a new pair of Polarized Ray Bans since my other pair got scratched up. :( Focus Optometry is located inside of a mini mall of sorts. I think most, if not all of the surrounding stores are Asian. I thought that was pretty funny. There's at least one, maybe two drink stores there that sell teas and bobas. So go get a mango iced tea, get your eyes checked out, and get some new shades so you can look like a rock star drinkin' them bobas. read more

I have nothing but positive things to say about this place. Dr. Toy is a fantastic Optometrist and the staff is very welcoming. I recommend Focus Optometry to everyone. He really takes his time to answer my questions or concerns and explains everything he is doing during the examination thoroughly! You can choose not to ask questions and be done quickly, but I like to know what is going on with my eyes. I personally find it hard to find glasses to fit my face right, but Dr. Toy walked me around the office and showed me all the eyeglasses that are best suited for my face-type and was not shy about telling me when something didn't look right! It came to my attention after the last review that my insurance actually does cover the contact lens fitting and I have to just pay the copay for it which is 25$. I have been paying them (85+25$) 85 for fitting which is included in the 25 copay and then 25 copay as well. I have been going to them for past 3 years, I am just wondering for how long was I being duped this way? When I called to ask about the same thing, receptionist told me that whoever helped me with billing will call me back. The person who called me back was half informed + rude, I repeatedly asked to speak to the doctor and she kept avoiding that, trying to justify the 85$ charge. While doing so, she said my old insurances also covered fitting, this is where I was like then why was I charged 85$ every year. The staff here is just awful, least you can do is provide transparency about what is charged and what's covered instead of just being concerned about swiping the card. read more

Originally, I was going to give this place 4 stars due to the service I received when I purchased a pair of Gucci frames in November 2015. In fact, I was impressed with the selection they had and the prices were fair. Also, they are open Sundays, which I found very convenient. The only issue I had (back then) was they didn't call me when the glasses arrived. I actually called to ask if they came in, but that wasn't a deal breaker. Fast forward to November 2016 and I came in for a simple adjustment as my frames were a little loose. The front desk lady (I believe her name is Mindy - who sold me the frames) called someone in the back to come out, so this other lady came out to greet me. She checked out the frames on my face, took them to the back to get them adjusted and and after about 5 minutes came back out. She handed my glasses to me to try them on, so I did. I noticed that my glasses were "foggy" and felt warm, so I just assumed that whatever treatment they did was temporary. I told her they fit much better and she told me to always come back for an adjustment anytime and walked away. The "foggy-ness" never went away, so I asked this other young lady at the desk if I can borrow their lens cleaner. I was there for quite awhile trying to clean my lenses. In fact, I actually asked for the cleaner cloth a second time. I then went outside and took off my glasses in the sunlight and noticed they were all scratched up! I immediately went back inside and showed Mindy that my glasses were scratched up. She actually asked me "Did you bring these in like that?" I'm thinking to myself, "of course not, I wouldn't be able to see or drive." (my eyesight is the 600s) Long story short, the lenses were fixed under warranty by the lab. What if it wasn't under warranty!? Would they not fix it? They were lucky this time, but I'm not never going back for a minor adjustment again. I was also thankful that I had my gym bag with me that day (which had a pair of contacts). read more

This is probably one of the most fun places to get my eye exam. The doctor is just GREAT! Such a sweet personality and definitely likes to get to know her patients. I truly felt comfortable and had that "home" feeling to it. The staff is super friendly, always smiling and not one of those forced business smiles. Like they're really happy to be there. Unfortunately they didn't have my contacts so it was special ordered. (I have rare eyes) not sure if that's a good thing? Haha but the doc broke it down to me and told me the why's and hows and definitely knows what she's doing. This is definitely my new place to go. read more

My family and I had the worst experience here. My dad got his eye exam around a month ago, and the people there except the doctor and this one Chinese girl were all very rude and unprofessional. The glasses took about 3 weeks to get here, not to mention they didn't even call is when it arrived or so. When we received the glasses, we were even more disappointed. The lens and the frame was not even in a good condition. There were clear dicta all over the frame and lenses, and the lenses were very blurry, like it was just a toy. We also found some scratches on there. And again, customer service was extremely bad when we pick up the glasses. I will eventually have to try my best to return the glasses or at least get it fixed. This is NOT the service and outcome we paid to get, extremely disappointed. What an AWFUL store! UPDATE We got even more disappointed going back today. Their customer service was most absolutely NOT acceptable. The Vietnamese women consisted that it is our problem that the lens weren't good. They argued that because we didn't add extra payment for the lens, so therefore it's blurry. Seriously, the Chinese girl admitted that it is the company's problem and they were still arguing. We will NEVER come back to the store. So HORRIBLE. I hope the owner know that they had such horrible staffs there. Totally unacceptable! SECOND UPDATE So about two weeks ago, we went back to pick up the glasses one last time. The boss was very nice and welcoming while promising they will fix the attitude problems. At last they finally fixed the glasses and apologized for the poor costumer service from earlier visits. Honestly, I would like to explain, that this isn't the store, or the boss's fault. Most staffs were very sincere and nice with us. I am glad they are willing to accept opinions from costumers and try to fix things up. I hope they can somehow improve more on the service problems next time so there won't be another costumer like me feeling unwelcome. read more

I didn't do a business with them since the people here just want me to get out of the store quickly so they can close early. I came here at 6:05pm on Thursday and no customers are there. I thought that I can get the time to talk to them until their closing time at 6:30pm. But I was wrong, they told me that there is NO doctors available and they're closing early. Great!! I spent so much times in the traffic to get here and they want me to get out. I talked to an old lady and she didn't care to help me as she just rushed me off. She wanted me to call them back the next day... Boy, I had enough and walked out of the store immediately and WON'T come back. This review is for the owner to keep your eyes on your staffs. I came here for my usual yearly check up - lo and behold my prescription has gotten slightly worse. To my surprise, the entire office is changing, they redid their floors, changed doctors, THREE NEW ONES! and because my eyes are so particularly picky and the timing i had, i got the pleasure of meeting the three optometrists! I had my initial visit for my new prescription, and contacts fitting with Dr. Christine Choi. She did a really thorough exam, explaining about my what my prescription meant, and the new changes (i had no idea my left eye could correct itself of its small astigmatism). she asked if i wanted contacts, i have been very annoyed of my contacts so i wear glasses on a regular basis, so i was interested in finding something that would suit me. First she got me fitted with Air Optix, but unfortunately after a day or so of wearing, my toric lens was not fitting correctly on my right eye (but otherwise, they were SO comfortable! [vs my original proclear]) I came back and got another trial pairs for Oasys, which did not help with the dry eyes part. I constantly felt them. So she ordered once again my proclear lenses with the new prescription, i was OKAY with this idea but it seemed like so much trouble finding a new brand :/ I came back after a week for my contact lens fitting with Dr. Anthony Toy (Dr. Choi was married and on her honeymoon- congratulations!). I told him my concerns with the proclear, which was basically they were drying out and it wasn't working out. He then suggested Bio Infinity contacts, and when i put those ones in, it was amazing. they were so comfortable, i had no idea i had contacts on! My second contact fitting was with Dr. Taylor Tran. (Now, Dr. Toy was at his bachelor party - haha - congratulations!). Dr. Tran was really fun talk to! I asked her about late night dry eyes, and she gave me samples for Systane Ultra and Blink. Overall every optometrist are sweet, friendly, and talkative! They each addressed concerns I had. Everyone was very thorough with their examination, and explaining each process. The front end office staff are very helpful in finding glasses. Though I have to admit, their pricing for lenses and such for NO INSURANCE are probably higher than other places. So search around. Their stock of glasses do have a good turnover. They can often order glasses for you, but there is no RETURNS - so that is the problem, how do u know if a pair of glasses will be compatible with you when you only see it in a picture? read more

I normally don't like giving out so many 5 stars, but let's be honest here, this is one of the best offices I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of. The entire staff is wonderful, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. They go out of their way to ensure that you have a great visit, and the doctors are equally as helpful. It's really great when you have doctors that aren't just there to do their job and kick you the eff out, but they really do care about you and the general health of your eyesight. They'll always remember the small details of your life that's not part of my medical records, and they always have such great attitudes while in the office. Conveniently located in a strip mall housing Lion's Supermarket and a variety of Asian-related restaurants and services, I've been patronizing Focus for contact lenses and glasses for about 8 years now, off and on. With Dr Pham departing, now replaced by Drs Toy and Choi, I've been very pleased with the affable service. The front desk staff have gone through a good degree of attrition and turnover over the years, but they have remained quite organized with my records so I feel confident returning year after year for comprehensive eye exams and lens fittings. With business quite busy (I've mostly been there on Saturdays), it sometimes takes a bit of a wait to be serviced. Further, glasses procurement sometimes have taken as long as two weeks, but Focus has been great with free adjustments, providing contacts lens solutions, and other free goodies that have appeased me over the years. I recently had the opportunity to undergo examinations and follow-ups with both Drs Toy and Choi, and both were incredibly hospitable and helpful, spending generous time to address my concerns. Contacts and glasses may be a bit overpriced compared to lower-overhead stores like online shops, but given the years of pleasant experiences, I feel fortunate to be able to patronize Focus Optometry. read more

5 stars for Dr. Anthony but had to minus one star for the difficulty of setting up my appointment. As a person who has 20/20 vision, I didnt think there was a need for me to visit the optometrist often. But then several people told me it's a healthy thing to do because even if you do have 20 20 vision your eyes still could have some infection or something. So I decided to give focus optometry a call. I havent been to the place in probably 4 years so the woman said she didn't have my record on file. But then minutes later she goes and tell me who my mom is and my sister. Lady.. if you dont know who i am or see me in the system at all how you going to tell me who my mom is.. Long story short she made it really difficult to set up an appt that could have easily taken 2 minutes but ended up being 15 minutes of non sense. So about my visit. Dr. Anthony is extremely knowledgeable and helped inform me about the whole process. He carefully explains why he does certain tests and what everything means. He always makes sure that you're comfortable and aware of what is going on. Overall I had a good experience and left a happy camper! read more

My world was turning into a blurry mess, but Dr. Toy made it all better! First things first: when you walk in you are immediately greeted by the staff inside and asked if you need assistance - love that! I went straight to the staff to let them know I had an appointment, and they got me settled in with my paperwork right away. Shortly after, Dr. Toy came out to introduce himself to me and get the exam started. I have to say, he is by far one of the best optometrists that I have seen so far! He was very patient and explained everything that he was doing and what he found out was going on with my vision. He's incredibly personable and made the entire experience an enjoyable one. Since I have an astigmatism the contacts are a bit tricky, so he made sure I made another appointment with them just to follow up and make sure all was well. Once we determined that my vision was terrible and I needed to get new contacts, the front staff helped me order the contacts that I needed and even took care of filling out all of the information for the rebate I was going to get! They told me if there was any issue with the rebate after a month, to go ahead and let them know so that they can check up on it. I'd also like to add that the store itself is very nicely organized and clean, which makes browsing through their collections a pleasant experience. I went to LensCrafters to order sunglasses and I know they usually take 10 days for special orders, ended up taking TWO MONTHS. My sister called after a month and they told her they actually just ordered their lenses...thanks for the update?!?! I came HERE for my glasses and first and foremost, the staff helps you RIGHT away, secondly, my glasses were ready within a week. Yeah, SEVEN DAYS. The gentleman here also adjusts your glasses perfectly and quickly. I don't know what else to say. I am VERY HAPPY with this place. They have a website that tells you their promotions and what insurances they take so that makes life a bit easier. Being that I'm a typical petite asian, I need my glasses a bit smaller so I don't have to constantly push my glasses up and find that they have a pretty decent collection of smaller frames for me and a wide range of brands: from high end to basic necessities. I got a Marc by Marc Jacobs frame in tortoise with AR hi index lenses for $305. I have previously gotten Kate Spade rimless glasses almost a decade ago and another pair of DKNY, both fitting perfectly and lasted for quite some time. I didn't get my eyes examined by the current doctors here this time around but I have before and they're knowledgeable and friendly. That being said, I do miss Dr. Toy a lot and I hope to find a clinic he is at so I can go back to seeing him! read more

This is an update. The staff remembered my previous review and took note of it. They made some serious changes, and it didn't come unnoticed. First off, they've been more helpful with the contacts rebate. They fill out everything for you and all you have to do is send it out and cut the tabs out. I still don't trust them with picking them up so now they have an option of having it directly sent to you, which is much nicer. Secondly, the doctors are pretty knowledgeable in their field. I'm a curious person so I naturally ask them questions, and I always expect answers. Third, the staff are more helpful. So, I like the fact that they take yelp seriously and put the reviews into consideration. Good job in improvements. PS. I would also like to say that in my last review, when I meant ACCENT, I meant that this particular person didn't seem happy to help with my problems and she seemed unfriendly towards me. I don't mind accents at all since I come from a family who immigrated from Vietnam. Just wanted to clarify any miscommunications. read more

I was referred here by a friend and for ONCE in her life, she did the right thing =P (JK N.T.) I made an appointment with Taylor Tran and was happy that she was available the same day. She was very insightful and calming (because I came in with blurry vision and freaked out the day before). She was patient and answered all the questions I had. She also mentioned and explained a lot of corrective options for my nearsided-ness. Although it's a bit of a drive to come see her, I do not mind because I dread seeing my last eye doctor. To be fair, I will not mention his name, but I totally recommend Focus for your optometry needs. They also have a lot of eye-wear selections. read more

I've had mixed feelings about this place in the past, but the fact that I keep coming back really says something. A few weeks ago, I really needed to get a contact fitting done because I developed an astigmatism. I made an appointment and when I walked in, nobody greeted me or asked me to check in or anything. I made eye contact with someone but she brushed me off. A man who worked there asked if I had an appointment and I said yes. Then, 30 minutes go by and nobody tells me anything. I had another appointment soon and I was getting really upset, so I just walked out. About 10 minutes later when I was getting ready to eat dinner at home, I get a phone call from the doctor and she asked if it was me who left. She apologized I wasn't greeted by any of the 3 people working the front and begged I come back for my appointment. Obviously, what happened wasn't her fault, and the fact that she called made me feel better. A few days later I came back and a different doctor, Dr. Choi greeted me and was apologetic about the whole thing as well. She was really patient and gave me a careful examination. I paid about $65 for my fitting and got a pair of Acuvue contacts to try out for 2 weeks. Earlier today, I went back for my fitting finalization and met the 3rd and final doctor, Dr. Toy. He is the sweetest guy! He said after everything that happened, I don't need to pay for my fitting and he gave me a free pair of contacts. In actuality, I did pay for my fitting the week before; the receipt was stapled to the back of my file that he didn't see. I didn't say anything though. It wasn't about complaining my way to get the free fitting. I told them it's cool 2 weeks ago but they've kept trying to make me become a satisfied customer, and believe me it worked. I was super ecstatic that I got a free pair of contacts and I totally felt like a valued customer. Dr. Toy knew my insurance didn't kick in for another 30 days so giving me an extra pair really helped me out. I'm so above and beyond satisfied with their service, I totally forgot about the rude receptionists from before and I'll definitely be coming back permanently in the future. =) EDIT: About 5 hours after I came home, Focus Optometry called and said that they realized I paid already during my last visit and that they will put that money towards my contacts once my insurance kicks in.
