2 years ago I came here for an eye exam and prescription glasses. It was great. No problems. Staff were professional and efficient. They scheduled an appointment for my eye exam within 2 weeks. Now? It's all changed. Wow!! It's so obvious these guys really hate money!! They hate customers! No appointments for months, nobody picks up the phone when I call, and the stupidest, most ridiculous part: They force you to have an appointment just to get damn eyeglasses which they never told me about when I spoke to them on the phone. I wasted my time driving to the office on my day off hoping to order glasses. I tried to call before I left but nobody answered the phone. When I arrived the rude, judgemental valley girl sitting at the front desk rudely and condescendingly told me they only do eyeglasses by appointment. When I asked why she made up excuses about how they're "short staffed." LOL. Oh honey! Eyeglasses aren't rocket science. Any receptionist at every clinic can do them. Those two bored receptionists were just sitting on their ass not doing anything. I know they could've helped me. I used to think very highly of this business. Now it's obvious they hate money and hate customers. I hope they go bankrupt. It's very clear that they will considering how empty the store was and how they turn away paying customers. Unfortunately my prescription was wrong. After an adjustment it was still off. I went to a different optometry and got an accurate and more comfortable prescription. People are nice when you can manage to get their attention. They do have frames to select from which provides added options. read more

Visited this doctor's office in two occasions so far; the first was with my and my husband's annual eye exam coming in as new patients. The second time was for my daughter's (4yo) first eye exam as a new patient. We were greeted both times by friendly staff and they were able to get our exams started right away. All three of us were seen by Dr. David. He is very friendly and very engaging. I was worried my daughter would not be comfortable with him, but he was able to get her engaged in conversation and able to go through the exam with no issues. Definitely recommend this office for families. They have a great variety of frames needed and explain every step of the process. read more

I would like to a -5 star review if I can. This is a VERY Unprofessional business. We made an appointment for my family a month ago. No one mentioned that they will call or text for a mandatory confirmation. We never received any confirmation from text or phone. Needless to say, we went to our appointment and learning it got cancelled. I shown my text and phone history that proved we never got anything. They didn't try to make things right like offering us to see us next. We had to pay for someone's mistake. I would avoid this horrible place and find a better clinic. I've been a patient of Milpitas Family Eye Care for 3 years and the glass has shattered for me. Initially I was so impressed by the frills of the place: cozy office, wide selection of frames, little gift bag with my glasses, doctor knows his stuff.. I rated this place a 2-stars because I didn't have great experiences with the doctor. The kicker is that 1-year later found out that my prescription was wrong when I got a 2nd opinion. Here's the deets: I had noticed that all of my eye exams had always felt a bit rushed. The doctor came in a hurry, checked my eyes, scribbled down some notes, tried to upsell the 1-day contacts but I denied considering they are much more expensive. Then off to shopping for the lenses frames section! My trust broke when the doctor handed me contacts to try on, I tried them on and felt very off. I checked the numbers on the tab and they were the wrong prescription. I asked the doctor what's wrong and he said it must be my astigmatism but I pointed out it was actually the wrong numbers for my contacts. He quickly checked and gave me the right contact lenses. What stood out to me was that he was rash to suggest the issue was with my eyes, but didn't think to ask clarifying questions. I already didn't have much trust established in my doctor and this moment cut it off completely. And to boot, I got a 2nd opinion from another eye doctor and learned that my eyes hurt because they were overcompensating and my previous prescription was too strong. I write this review to share the truth of my experience so that this business can improve and take time to listen and educate their customers. I have been seeing Dr. Schymeinsky for a long time, and I think it's safe to say he's the best optometrist I've had. He's kind, attentive and smart. I've been coming here for years, and at some point, my insurance changed it up on me, and told me that I had to go to another optometrist. BIG MISTAKE. That other optometrist really tried to milk a minor issue I had, and had me paying out of pocket for each visit, probably like 7-8 visits..... At some point, those appointments were just the doctor lecturing me about my life choices instead of the issue with my eye. I had enough with that doctor, and came back here. Dr. Schymeinsky was able to solve my issue in ONE visit. Smart and honest Dr here. The front staff is pretty great too. They're attentive and effective. Several years ago, I went in for my annual eye exam and Dr Shymeinsky found an area of concern on my eye exam. He told me that I needed to see an Opthalamologist for assessment. Long story short, I am now being monitored by Stanford eye clinic for an unusual eye problem. I credit Dr Shymeinsky for noticing that something was not right on my exam. I had been seeing another Optomoterist for years and he never noticed this issue. I think we are lucky to have such talented and professional people in this area. read more

I had an eye exam here a last month and was given a prescription for reading glasses. I was happy because the Dr was nice and fast with the eye exam. How ever , after purchasing my first eye frames ever! I had for almost 2 weeks the lens fell off the frame. I phoned the clinic brought the incident up to the receptionist and requesting a refund. The receptionist said well it says here on your notes you are aggressive with your glasses wait put a break on it! I had no idea our conversations were being notated in the lobby. I never owned a prescription eye glasses or bought frames in my life the only glasses I have been wearing are reading glasses from the dollar store or TJ max. If you want to call that sturdy frames I aggressively mis handles a problem come on now seriously we can all agree that dollar store frame are not reliable. Yet, I can say they lasted longer than the ones I had purchase from the clinic. So, I placed my reading glasses on my night stand every night and take them off after reading. I woke up and grabbed my glasses off of the night stand and the lens just popped out and landed on the floor at first I thought they were my dollar store glasses and as I was ready to toss the eye glass lens in the trash I stopped and looked at the frame in my right hand and noticed it was my new frame! When I called the office this first time they told me to bring them in so they can pop the lens back into the glasses. Well, damn I can do that myself. The 2nd phone call the receptionist was rude and her customer service skills are whacked who tells a customer that they are aggressive with their glasses I was offended. I called my insurance and it's a process to get my refund back. Yes, the doctor called me and is willing to resolve this situation with my insurance. I don't want to put myself in an uncomfortable situation where I have to go back to this clinic and see the receptionist that insulted my integrity and not have anything nice to say. read more

Came here mid-June during the pandemic and they had very organized logistics on sanitizing, temperature checks, etc. It was by appointment only, which made me feel safer, too. I needed a new Rx for new frames as well as contacts, but didn't have my old contacts prescription on hand. I believe there is a fee to examine eyes from scratch as opposed to adjusting the Rx based on your old prescription, but Dr. Contos said it was alright and that I could just stick with the same price. I contacted my old optometrist anyway and the staff was extremely patient with me. I enjoy asking all my doctors questions and Dr. Contos was really nice about answering all of them. Overall, I had a wonderful first experience here and hope to come back in the future! read more

I have had my eye exam with Dr. David A. Shymeinsky for more than 6 years, he is a professional and nice doctor, however, his staffs are very rude and have communication problems. In 2020, they gave me a prescription with the exact same power on both eyes, which is an obvious error, and called/emailed them for a week, the front desk insisted that is the correct number. God, they ended up coming back to apologize to me and said they is a typo...I didn't want to go back until 2023! I am so regraded now. In Jan, I went for a medically necessary contact lens exam, after a week, I got my 1-year supplies, and after finishing the trial version, I asked for a recheck appt. On that appointment, they asked me to bring my 1-year supplies back and appreciated me kept the boxes unopened. In Feb, I got another material trial version, the receptionist told me if I feel good, they then will order the 1-year supplies for me. On March 6, 9:08 am I called the office, I told them I still like the previous version and would like to pick up the original box back. They told me, there is no record showing I returned the box, and they insisted that I still have the box!! I was so mad, this front desk, can they do their job better than this!! Where are my 1-year supplies? I asked the lady on the call, should I call the police? Do you have a security video? Now what? No contact lenses?? They already got paid from my insurance and left me no supplies... @9:54, they called me back and said they found the box They should have not said, "You still have the box" in the first place. No trust in their long-run customer. The front desk on today's call and the one who admitted the typo is dishonored and unprofessional. read more

After having a horrible experience with another eye center, I've decide to give this place a call. The staff was very polite and set up an appointment about 3 weeks when I first called. They followed up a day before my appointment. My doctor was very easy going and super polite. He asked direct questions which was easily answered. My glasses were available in about a week. read more

I'm so pleased with my experience at MFE that I'm actually yelping about it! They have generous hours to accomodate us nine-to-fivers, and they've even let me in to pick up glasses or picked up the phone to schedule me an appointment after closing! There are always baked goods to snack on, even though the wait is never too long. Their frame selection is excellent, and they're official vendors for brand names like Fendi or Ray-Ban. Exams are quick but thorough, and the turnaround time for lenses is super fast. I recently broke my glasses and stopped in without an appointment, and they fixed it without charge! read more

My recent move to the area had me scrambling to find a local optometrist when I realized my contact lens prescription had expired and I couldn't get new lenses. I called these guys to set up an appointment and made it clear several times or was for checking lenses. Fast forward to the day of my appointment. I finally lug my newborn and all his things into the doctor's office for the exam. Anyone who has an infant knows that leaving the house is challenging to say the least. Suddenly you become obsessed with someone else's peeing and pooping schedule and their eating habits, and whether any one those will detail even your efforts to get to an appointment on time. When I get to the office, I'm told that I need a full exam in order to get contact lenses and can I reschedule for that exam? Since I made it clear on the phone when making the appointment I was coming in for lens fitting, why wasn't that communicated to me? As if coming in on time with a newborn the first time wasn't hard enough, I have to come in a second time? At the second appointment, Dt. Schmeinsky was courteous and conducted the exam quickly. I don't have any complaints about the exam. At the front desk, I ordered my lenses and left. I was puzzling over the fact that the cost of the lenses I asked for was twice what I usually pay, when the front desk called me and said they charged me for the wrong lenses. They would order the correct ones, and process the refund when I came in to pick them up. I suppose this was an honest mistake, but one that cost me close to $300, that wouldn't be refunded until I came back. Well that prescription wasn't exactly right. A minor change was needed that I ran by the doctor and that he approved. So I told the front desk people that I needed to exchange the box of lenses I received for a different lens power. As long as the box was unopened, it wouldn't be a problem I was told. That was Tuesday. Today, Friday, I called to set if my lenses we're ready, and they were not. In fact, they were never ordered. I suppose that's yet another honest mistake, but that's two mistakes in a row. And to top it off? I didn't get an apology. No, "Oh I'm so sorry about this. I'll put in the order for you right now." Because of their mistake, I have to open the next box of the wrong prescription of contact lenses, and wear them until next week. Which is another $60 lost. I can't complain about my doctor, but the front desk staff simply does the bare minimum and doesn't pay attention to detail. Or remember what common courtesy is. Doctir is great & ladies that work here are nice, however when I called and inquired on my glasses they never follow up with a call back. Terrible customer service. I have been seeing this doctor for years and support small businesses, however the service is so terrible. I been calling each week never recvd a call back. I threatened to cancel my order yesterday. I finally recvd a reason today (which I called again) they back order on the frames, however I provided frames for 1 of the two pairs purchased and those are not shipped. Mmmmmm DOESNT MAKE SINCE. Being in cust Svc/ Sales most of my life that is not how business is conducted. Extremely disappointed. You can get better service wt a better customer svc. Oh and I ordered a pair through China wt my prescription recvd a pair 9 days. Whats that tell you. read more

He is very patient and made sure to answer all the questions I had. I visited this place on February 15, 2018 for the first time after moving to Milpitas from Cupertino, Doctor mentioned that my power changed from -1.25 to -2 in past 12 months. I was shocked and surprised because my glasses were fine. As I was skeptical on buying glasses with new power, I visited another doctor in June 2018 and confirmed that my power did not change. My new doctor mentioned that the axis of my eye changed and that provided me a new prescription with a difference in "Cyl" and "Axis". On another note, I have a problem with lattice degeneration. I am fine but I need to get dilated every time I go to eye doctor. This doctor refused to dilate and asked me to take another appointment. I went to eye doctors in 10 different cities across the country. No one asked me to take a separate appointment to dilate. Finally and the most important one. My doctor's white apron is yellowish at the bottom. Looks like he did not wash it in the past few months. I would avoid this place in future. read more

I chose this place because of the location and all the good reviews here. Came here yesterday to see Dr. Contos. It was my first ever comprehensive eye exam and I was super anxious because I hate things near my eyes and I expected to feel a lot of discomfort. He was super kind and explained everything to me and the appointment went very well. It was quick but not in a rushed way. The front desk staff were friendly and I ordered a pair of frames. I saw that there were fresh baked cookies in previous reviews so I was looking forward to getting some but they didn't have any when I visited lol :( read more

I moved to Milpitas 7 years ago, then proceeded to squash my glasses, so I had to look around for a new optometrist. I read some reviews and realized these folks must be in that special category. I went to have my eyes checked, picked glasses, picked them up a few days later (they're perfect) and then went back for dilation exam. I've been back every year since to see Dr Contos. Every time is prompt, friendly, knowledgeable, efficient. And yes, they do have cookies on the counter... :-) read more
