a pizza on a plate
Corey D.

The exterior is quite impressive with a huge outdoor terrace. Wading pool with tables, plenty of sun umbrellas, fire pits etc... I've driven by plenty of times always saying to myself "I gotta try this one day". We met a friend that works nearby for their lunch break. Arrived at noon and our lunch arrived at 1:25! 85 minutes to make a pizza and a tartare even when we were the first to order! We also ordered a white wine sangria and I've never seen a pitcher of sangria arrive with no fruits in it. It was on the sweet side, tasting like white wine and a lot of white cranberry juice. Adding some lemons, limes, grapes, green apples and litchis would have made it more presentable. The pizza was a "BLT pizza" (very odd) and it came with a tomato boccocini appetizer. I've never seen tomatoes cut so un-evenly in my life. A 5 year old could have done a better job. Super thick on one end and disappearing to nothing halfway through. Odd clumps of cheese with 2 squirts of what seemed to me like Kraft Italian dressing. The pizza tasted like a BLT, generous with bacon, shrivelled up salad and slices of tomato. Crust a little undercooked. Our friend had to leave at 1:15 as she was already late for work and didn't get to eat. On top of it all after an almost 90 minute wait nothing was offered besides a sorry. Will I be back? ...What do you think?

Hands down the best speakeasy or cocktail bar we visited while in MTL. It's behind a hidden door…read morenext to the smallest bar in Canada, which is so fun. You want to be brought in and it's dark and moody with the BEST craft cocktail list. The theme is duck - which is so fun. Our bartender was OUTSTANDING. He gave not only the best drink recommendations, but also gave us a hand written list of his favorite spots in MTL (drinks, dining, activities, etc). I wish we would've gotten his name because I cannot praise him enough!

The first time, the music was extremely loud, and it seemed like they were short-staffed. The bar was completely packed, and there was only one bartender making drinks, so the wait was a bit longer than expected. We decided to give it another try, and I'm so glad we did. The second visit was amazing! The bartender working that night was incredible--she clearly knows her craft and made our drinks quickly without sacrificing quality. Every cocktail was delicious, and the overall experience was much more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend The Coldroom. My only suggestion would be that, with a space that busy, the bar could really benefit from having an additional bartender during peak hours. It would help keep wait times down and make an already great experience even better.

First of all, the lounge is laid out well with different types of seating from bar stools to booths to cushioned seats. It's also kept clean of clutter. It looked spotless when I went around 8 a.m. on a Monday in July. Every table/place to sit comes with a QR code you scan to order made-to-order dishes. For breakfast, they had toasts, avocado toast, eggs, breakfast sandwiches and more. The sausage breakfast sandwich was hearty and comes with potatoes. At the bar are fruit cups, yogurt, and fresh fruit. They have an area for to-go boxes if you're in a rush. There are alcoholic drinks at the bar and several coffee machines that make lattes, etc. They also have orange and apple juice for breakfast. Many tables have magazines on them, outlets nearby, and strong wi-fi. Staff are friendly and attentive. One thing to note is that there are no restrooms inside, but there are nearby.

For all others (aka Priority Pass), the hours are from 2pm to closing. It was very clean, however there are no lounge bathrooms. This lounge is more of a restaurant feel with QR code menus that you can order off of (but only 2 food items and 1 drink item at a time! probably to prevent food waste).

You walk in and there's a clothing store on one side and black curtains straight ahead. I just stood there confused for a second until someone suddenly appeared and escorted me through the curtains, down a long dark hallway, and into this intimate, dimly lit bar. Turns out, I had accidentally stumbled into a speakeasy. The space is tiny--maybe 6-8 seats at the bar and a long banquet along the wall for 10-12 more people. No menus either. They ask what you like and don't like, then craft a cocktail specifically for you. The pours are generous and the bar is stocked with top-shelf liquor. About a drink and a half in, I realized I needed actual food immediately and had to leave. The staff was friendly, personable, and chatty, and because the space is so intimate, you naturally end up talking with the people around you. Definitely more of a solo or date-night spot than a group hang. Such a cool, unexpected experience.

I'm a fan of cocktail bars, and after reading up on this spot I made it my intention to check it out. It just so happened that it was a short walk from my hotel, so we decided to check it out one night before heading to dinner. The Cloakroom is a speakeasy, nestled behind a hidden door in a men's clothing shop. In the line of being a speakeasy, the space is small - there are only 24 seats but since we got there right at opening we were seated right away. The space is dark and intimate, with the bottles of liquor lit up behind the bar providing an attractive focal point. One of the more unique features of the bar is that there's no menu; we told our server the types of liquors we wanted along with the flavor notes and they crafted a cocktail based on our tastes. We ultimately had two rounds; my first drink was vodka-based and fruity, while I went with something gin-based and dryer. Both were very good - there's little fanfare with presentation; the bartenders let the drinks speak for themselves. Service was great; due to the setup, each patron is given extra attention which really highlighted the experience. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at The Cloakroom Bar. This was definitely a unique experience with excellent curated drinks. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Montreal.
