Really nice pier! There is parking right in front of the pier, we went in October so it was off season and only 10$ a day. Not sure what it is during peak season. There is a restaurant right when you walk up that has outdoor seating, live music and a separate bar area. There are public bathrooms but they were pretty dirty when I went. We have not tried the restaurant yet, but the food smells good we will try it next time. The bar looks awesome but it closed early at 8pm on a Saturday so I was not able to try it. The views are beautiful and the pier is huge. Lots of seating and benches, you can also fish on the pier but you need a license. Definitely visit the pier if you are in Folly! Perfect place for sunsets, tourist and surfer spectating, and special events such as the Moonlight Mixer. The Charleston County Parks has dance socials programming. Recommend going to their website to learn more. The pier has public restrooms, showers, a small gift shop, and snack shacks. Folly Beach Pier is very well kept. There are changing rooms, restrooms, a gift shop, and a pier bar, and restaurant. The changing rooms and restrooms were so clean. There are also rinse stations to rinse the sand off which is super convenient! The beach is beautiful, clear and clean. They also have beach chair rentals if you want to rent a chair and umbrella. The pier bar has cocktails, frozen drinks and zero proof options as well. The gift shop is very nicely stocked with all the beach necessities. The pier also allows fishing, by permit only and you can purchase the permit from the gift shop. A great spot! read more

I've lived in Charleston for 4 years and hardly ever venture over to folly beach sadly but today I got to explore a little more and I had never been to the pier here, it was very cloudy and windy but so cool still. They have 10 dollar parking or you can find parking around the surrounding areas - which I did. It was very clean and I had to wash my hands so I used the restroom and those were kept up nicely! Those can be hit or miss but it was pretty clean. The board walk its self was also tidy, they had a restaurant and some other things up there but I didn't explore that because I ate at the lost dog. The whole area had some places to wash your feet from the beach and the pier its self was huge. Heads up dogs aren't allowed on the pier but they are on the beach for certain seasons and times. If you are in the area it's a cool spot to check out. read more

I love Folly Beach. I came in the summer and i found the water warmer than other beaches I've been to. It felt very nice. We didn't have a car so we took an Uber here from Charleston. The pier itself is well constructed and we saw sea gulls up close. They do have amenities like rod rentals, ice cream, showers, and Pier 101 restaurant and bar. The beach was not overly crowded, we were able to find a spot easily. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a beach towel. The beach was clean. read more

I love the laid back feel of Folly Beach. Just far enough away to give you a break from the hustle and bustle of the touristy downtown Charleston area. Parking is free here with an annual pass, but it does fill up fast so come early. You can park on side rodes, but I'd suggest reading up on that before arriving. A lot has changed over the years and you don't want to wind up with a ticket. They is a restaurant close by a gift shop for your convenience. Folly Beach is a perfect place to kick back and relax. The Folly Beach pier is literally on its last legs, as on October 19, 2020 it is being torn down to be replaced by a different pier, one with more respect for the environment and animals and insects that attacked the current pier. Lots more information about the existing pier is here: https://www.follybeach.com/pier/ In 24+ months, there will be a new and better pier, the third one in my memory, as the first one was destroyed by Hurrican Hugo on September 21-22, 1989. As Hugo hit at midnight, it is shown by most as two (2) days. The earliest one had a bandstand and a large dance floor, with PBR the (cheap) beer of choice. I saw Jerry Lee Lewis and the Tams, while others saw the Drifters and the Coasters. All open air with no air conditioning. read more

Folly beach is such a beautiful little tucked away nook, far away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy downtown area of Charleston. It's got that small town island feel. The pier is impossible to miss. There is VERY limited parking in front of the pier. But they have a little cafe at the top and nice bathrooms. They have outdoor showers as well. I've had the pleasure of visiting Folly Beach twice now in the last five years and have enjoyed its laid back and somewhat hippy vibes. The pier itself is conveniently located a few steps from the Main Street of Folly that is filled with shops and restaurants. I especially enjoy this beach and pier in the off season of thanksgiving when there are few people out and the weather calls for a light jacket. It's a relaxing spot to take in the waves and admire the massive circular beans that make oh e up the pier (great for photo opportunities too!). If you enjoy a low key beach and island vibe, this is the spot for you. All conveniently located 20 minutes outside of Charleston and about 30 minutes from the airport. read more

Beautiful and welcoming Beach and pier for all to enjoy. Free access with ample parking @ a nominal fee (wkdays $10 & wkends $15). Extremely clean which is enjoyable in and of itself. I'm one who tends to be very picky about beaches and usually will only visit the ocean when traveling internationally and in the states only if I'm forced. Folly Beach is a beach I will visit without any arm twisting required. A great family environment for those with kids and still very enjoyable for those without. Wonderful sea shell collecting opportunities if that is your thing (I picked up some beauties myself). Plenty of eateries locally located including on the pier itself as well as picnic tables available if you decide to BYO. Thoroughly enjoyed Folly Beach, the ocean and family time even the sand in all the unmentionable places (hard eye roll). Such a great place to take a quick stroll alone, with your significant other, your family, your dog, or the whole gang! There are so many places to sit and take in the sites and at the end of the pier and throughout, there are places to sit and catch some fish. There are so many great places to stop to take a quick picture or two with a gorgeous backdrop. A well equipt pier that is kept in tip top shape from bow to stern. There is running water to clean your hands, clean your fresh catch, or clean your hands of that smell of your fresh catch. Signage will tell you what's allowed and what is not, so read it all first before you try to land JAWS or another big kahuna, or decide to jump off the pier into the water. Get your daily fishing permits, shop at the store for tackle and anything the horizon viewer to the weekend warrior fisherman. Have a drink at the outdoor hut, soak up some rays -- let the sun kiss your cheeks. Walking to the end and back is a therapeutic little stroll as gills pass above and waves crash upon the structural pillars. This was a nice spot and I love that it is FREE! We ate at a restaurant down the street, but then took a stroll to visit this pier. I did spot some parking here though, but you will have to pay for it. We saw a sign that there is a daily fishing fee required, so keep that in mind before you bait your hook. I spotted sinks for washing your catch off right on the pier. We took a nice walk out to the end of the pier to take in the gorgeous scenery, but it was quite cool and windy when we visited in March. I see that there are movies on the beach and fishing tournaments. I also noticed there is a restaurant and bar located on the pier, which would be an awesome place to dine with the lovely water views. I'm a big fan of fishing piers and this definitely is one. Access to the pier is free but parking fees range anywhere from $2.50 to whatever you're willing to part with... since the pay online part of the parking signs was redacted and I had no idea where the pay IRL thing was I figured the lot across the street was a deal especially since I wound up parked directly in front of the guard station. Access to the beach is straight forward: you cross the street and walk straight forward, same for the pier but you go up some steps first. Fancy snack shop to the left, gift shop to the right, facilities further right. Beverages are available for consumption on the pier but it's a long walk back so think carefully. Nice pier, well maintained with plenty of seats along the way and some information kiosks with nets and fish information and shark and turtle warnings. Big two-level shelter on the end with a nice view of everything from both sides. Built in 1995 this version of the pier is 24 feet wide and high and extends more than 1045 feet into the Atlantic Ocean (second biggest pier on the east coast at this writing) read more

First beach in South Carolina for your boy! It was really nice for a September afternoon beach day. Not overly crowded and definitely not empty. The parking situation is what limited my time on this beach. I wasn't aware that they only took exact change and cash at that...so I just parked illegally for some fun in the sun. Everyone drives around in these little golf carts all over this island. Apparently you can rent them, but I never found out how much. The beach was really nice and the water was clear and warm. Probably one of the coolest piers in America. First of all, its free to just walk out on. There is a gift shop that serves concessions and ice cream, a bar, and a full service restaurant at the pier. On a lucky afternoon, you can sip your favorite cocktail while listening to live music and watch a volleyball match happen as the surfers catch some waves. They have various seating arrangements from benches to high top Adirondack chairs. The biggest downfall is that it's almost impossible to find free/cheap parking anywhere near the pier depending on how long you're trying to stay and how far you're willing to walk. read more

The beach pier was probably my least favorite experience during my recent visit at Folly Beach. We ended up going on an early October weekend on a Sunday, and that's probably why it was super congested with lots of people to navigate around. It was a very warm and humid day too so I had to deal with that as well. Walking down the very long pier all the way to the end was pretty cool. We were able to see a pod of dolphins frolicking in the distance which was really nice and also a huge bonus to the experience. We walked around the beach area for a little bit but once again like I mentioned before, there were lots and lots of people and it was super sultry feeling. The sand in that area of the beach didn't seem as clean as some of the other areas we visited in the area like the county park and the area where the lighthouse is located. We ate at a restaurant at the beginning/starting part of the pier called - Pier 101. It really wasn't anything to rave about, as the previous Yelp reviews suggested. If you want to grab a bite to eat, your best bet would be to venture a little farther and closer into town. I'll be sure to add my restaurant review soon regarding Pier 101 on Yelp. :o/ I did manage to get some cool pictures while I was at the pier area. read more

Do I fish? No, not really. I have a $9.99 "Fishin' Pal" rod and reel (actually a red one and a blue one, so I have one for a friend) that I use at home in our neighborhood catch and release lake, but I leave the serious stuff to the serious fishermen and I'll just watch while enjoying my cocktail from my hotel balcony, thanks. Visited Folly recently and really enjoyed the laid back attitude of the community and the funky friendly feel. It's one of those "not too fancy, but not overtaken by trashy rednecks" areas which was the perfect fit for us. My only sadness with the fishing pier? Not pup friendly, while a great percentage of Folly Beach otherwise was. I guess I can understand since it is a fishing pier and there will be bait, hooks, and the like - but even on a off season visit like ours might have been nice. The real plus I will say that is quite ironic is their parking lot had the most green grass for pups nearby, and yes we pick up after our dog. (Evidently others were not always as considerate and had also noticed the availability of green. Signs in most parking eyebrows asking folks to pick up were home-made looking). So I encourage more who enjoy to fish to come here and try your luck - makes for fabulous people watching for the folks at Tides! read more

I love going here to just chill out and walk around taking in the scenery; you got a nice pier that extends out into the ocean overlooking beautiful Folly Beach. From a visualization standpoint, it is a true monument for the Charleston and Folly Beach area. What else? You can fish (Need a permit. Don't forget the permit). It is a nice long walk and when you get a breeze, event better. At the end you can see nothing but ocean water for all the eye.
