Went here today and despite rain started to drip we really enjoyed our walk in the pier. We even saw a rainbow. Watching the sea and having a slight breeze from the ocean was really great. There are also plenty of benches and chairs to sit on, so probably it's nice to watch the sunset. I will definitely come again.

Folly Beach Pier is very well kept. There are changing rooms, restrooms, a gift shop, and a pier bar, and restaurant. The changing rooms and restrooms were so clean. There are also rinse stations to rinse the sand off which is super convenient! The beach is beautiful, clear and clean. They also have beach chair rentals if you want to rent a chair and umbrella. The pier bar has cocktails, frozen drinks and zero proof options as well. The gift shop is very nicely stocked with all the beach necessities. The pier also allows fishing, by permit only and you can purchase the permit from the gift shop. A great spot!

Clean and ferfect for a family vacation, plenty of restaurants and bars in the area. Changing rooms and very accessible for people with disabilities, beautiful views Enjoyed our visit, looking forward to the next visit.

The Folly Beach Pier is what you would expect from a typical beach town. Loud, music playing and packed with people. Pretty ocean views, but a better scene for younger people or people looking to drink the day away. I felt like I was in a bar. I much prefer Beachwalker and how quiet and peaceful it is. Definitely not my scene.

Beautiful and really well taken care of. It is not as busy as expected on a spring morning but definitely picks up quickly. The shop is cute and has snacks and drinks

I've lived in Charleston for 4 years and hardly ever venture over to folly beach sadly but today I got to explore a little more and I had never been to the pier here, it was very cloudy and windy but so cool still. They have 10 dollar parking or you can find parking around the surrounding areas - which I did. It was very clean and I had to wash my hands so I used the restroom and those were kept up nicely! Those can be hit or miss but it was pretty clean. The board walk its self was also tidy, they had a restaurant and some other things up there but I didn't explore that because I ate at the lost dog. The whole area had some places to wash your feet from the beach and the pier its self was huge. Heads up dogs aren't allowed on the pier but they are on the beach for certain seasons and times. If you are in the area it's a cool spot to check out.

Such a fun pier to hang out on! It is under construction right now but can't wait to see it when it's all done! We always park nearby so we can relax up there and enjoy the views. They're replacing the wood with concrete and it's looking great so far! See you soon Folly!

I love Folly Beach. I came in the summer and i found the water warmer than other beaches I've been to. It felt very nice. We didn't have a car so we took an Uber here from Charleston. The pier itself is well constructed and we saw sea gulls up close. They do have amenities like rod rentals, ice cream, showers, and Pier 101 restaurant and bar. The beach was not overly crowded, we were able to find a spot easily. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a beach towel. The beach was clean.

I love the laid back feel of Folly Beach. Just far enough away to give you a break from the hustle and bustle of the touristy downtown Charleston area. Parking is free here with an annual pass, but it does fill up fast so come early. You can park on side rodes, but I'd suggest reading up on that before arriving. A lot has changed over the years and you don't want to wind up with a ticket. They is a restaurant close by a gift shop for your convenience. Folly Beach is a perfect place to kick back and relax. So bring your beach gear, pack some snacks, sit back and enjoy.

The Folly Beach pier is literally on its last legs, as on October 19, 2020 it is being torn down to be replaced by a different pier, one with more respect for the environment and animals and insects that attacked the current pier. Lots more information about the existing pier is here: https://www.follybeach.com/pier/ In 24+ months, there will be a new and better pier, the third one in my memory, as the first one was destroyed by Hurrican Hugo on September 21-22, 1989. As Hugo hit at midnight, it is shown by most as two (2) days. The earliest one had a bandstand and a large dance floor, with PBR the (cheap) beer of choice. I saw Jerry Lee Lewis and the Tams, while others saw the Drifters and the Coasters. All open air with no air conditioning.

Folly beach is such a beautiful little tucked away nook, far away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy downtown area of Charleston. It's got that small town island feel. The pier is impossible to miss. There is VERY limited parking in front of the pier. But they have a little cafe at the top and nice bathrooms. They have outdoor showers as well. You can fish off of the Folly Beach pier. Beautiful photo opportunities from the pier, under and around the pier.

Nice beach area with food, fishing, gift shop & ice cream. Covered pavillion at the end of the pier will give you a break from the sun. There's also sinks to wash, clean and measure your fresh catch of the day. We didn't see anyone catch anything but saw multiple people & birds waiting patiently for something to bite. Parking lots immediately in front of the pier. $5 weekdays/$10 weekends. There's an attendant at each of the lots. BONUS: We found over 60 sharks teeth in the span of a few hours in the shell beds immediately near the pier.

Beautiful and welcoming Beach and pier for all to enjoy. Free access with ample parking @ a nominal fee (wkdays $10 & wkends $15). Extremely clean which is enjoyable in and of itself. I'm one who tends to be very picky about beaches and usually will only visit the ocean when traveling internationally and in the states only if I'm forced. Folly Beach is a beach I will visit without any arm twisting required. A great family environment for those with kids and still very enjoyable for those without. Wonderful sea shell collecting opportunities if that is your thing (I picked up some beauties myself). Plenty of eateries locally located including on the pier itself as well as picnic tables available if you decide to BYO. Thoroughly enjoyed Folly Beach, the ocean and family time even the sand in all the unmentionable places (hard eye roll). Just A Note: Jet Ski available $59 for 1/2 hour and $109 for 1 Hour.

Sooo--- it's not a question of IF, it's a question of how big and --are they man eaters--?

For me, the check-in process was very easy. There was some miscommunication with the staff however because when they started going over the instructions I was left out while they addressed what looked to be a bachelor party. I assumed they were tackling the party first then would address me but instead started addressing a group birthday party. I had to track someone down as it was twelve minutes past my launch time and they were only focusing on the groups not me who was solo. They were pretty quick about grabbing me a kayak and told me to take a life vest from the birthday group, handed me a map, and then let me be on my way. I like that people with their own gear are allowed to pull up and launch. This worked out great for my friend who didn't need to rent anything. They're located on Bowen's Island that is in the marsh. It's quiet and relaxed and fortunately for us there weren't many boats in the water when we went. Overall it was a good experience. The staff were friendly, the location convenient and easy to access. (Though the road down is littered in potholes. Be mindful and drive slow or you'll be smacking your oil pan.) Ubers were coming and going all morning and dropped guests off right at the front door. COA also offers fishing off their dock for $3. There is a launch fee if you bring your own kayak or canoe but to be honest I can't remember what it was, though I remember my friend saying it was very affordable (so maybe $5/10?). There is a shark toothing expedition as well that I know is a longer paddle and a bit higher of a fee. Tours are offered if you don't feel confident paddling out in your own. I'll definitely be going back!
