This park is so charming. It has grassy fields, the classic southern trees, and oyster shell paths. It is not a huge park to set the kids free in, but a nice stop to have a picnic or a cup of coffee. The southern most point of the Charleston peninsula, it is within easy walking distance from waterfront park. It will provide a nice greenspace overlooking the harbor once the construction (which currently blocks all water access) is completed. The five year project is slated to finish by end of 2025. One is still able to walk the greenspace during this time, and is the site of many statues and memorials. read more

White Point Garden is a nice old, historic park near the water that borders the Battery. It has historical statues and monuments and cannons dating back from the Civil War times, old nice trees and a cute gazebo. The place must have suffered some damage because it was under renovation when we visited and couldn't fully check out all the areas and some views. When you visit a place, you 'd like to be able to see everything so I was a tad disappointed. Otherwise, cute shady place off the water with a nice neighborhood near by. read more

At the southern tip of the Charleston peninsula sits White Point Gardens and the Battery. It's where the Ashley and Cooper Rivers meet to form the Atlantic Ocean (according to locals), and is a must-see for visitors. It is a nearly 6-acre historic public park located at the tip of the Charleston Peninsula overlooking Charleston Harbor and Cooper River. The park entrances visitors with its beautiful water views, graceful live oak trees, and historic monuments. formerly known as Oyster Point - it is a lovely spot to sit on a bench and enjoy the view under the shade of live oak trees. Amazing history: Originally, the park was used as a fortification during the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and several cannons from both eras remain on site as a reminder of the city's military past. it hasn't always been as pleasant as it is now. It's the first point on peninsular Charleston reached by ships heading up from the harbor entrance. As such, White Point Gardens served military purposes at various times in its history: a watch tower was built on the location in the late 1680s and locals added cannons and entrenchments in the early 1700s save time for a break beneath the old live oaks in nearby White Point Garden where several Civil War relics and memorials commemorate the city's role in the battle. Ocean views, gentle breezes, large shady oak trees, and oyster shell pathways are enough to make anyone want to pull up a blanket and have a picnic on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Nice public park near the water. Lots of pretty trees, a gazebo, statues, and old cannons. There was some construction going on in the area so no view of the water from the park unless you walk around. It looks like they are expanding and adding a walkway which will be cool once it's all opened up. The trees are beautiful, I'm sure it's even prettier in the spring. Great place to stroll around when you're looking for some peace and quiet. read more

Located at the bottom of Charleston, it's a beautiful park with amazing views. You can walk past historic homes. I wished they had more shops for eating and drinking, especially on a hot day when you want to have some ice cream or water. The pile of cannonballs are worth checking out. read more

This park is at the edge of historic Charleston. On the grounds are many huge trees, a pavilion, and a few nice gravel dirt trails. Parking will be tough. There is free parking along the edge of the waterfront, but in the neighborhood you'll need a permit to park. You can probably best enjoy the park by sitting and watching the water. Otherwise it's going to be a very very short visit. read more

It's a free public park to visit, with nice towering shady trees, benches, a gazebo, defunct Civil War cannons, and statues. What I really loved was all the unique birds that live in this park...birds that do not exist in my native Southern California. I just love birds. read more

We loved hiking through Charleston to end up at this commercial free park on the tip of the town. It's nice to have a place / space zoned free of commerce. We enjoyed the breeze, this history of this fortified, defensible trading post. The sea wall has picturesque views of the sea. Have you ever been to The Battery? Than you have been to White Pointe Gardens. It's such a relaxing and peaceful place to get away from it all. It's one of the most photographed spots in Charleston. Drive around and hopefully you'll find parking right along the streets. Then get out and walk around or sit for a spell and enjoy the views of the harbor and a cool breeze. There's always people walking, jogging, playing with their pets, or looking for a scenic spot to take pictures. I come down often to just clear my head. It's one of my go to spots for a little selfcare. Visitors and locals are plentiful and the vibe of the area just seems to relax everyone because everyone is always friendly. read more

White Point Garden turned out to be quite a beautiful place.  We came here recently to enjoy the grounds and soak up some history and had a very enjoyable visit. The view of the harbor from here is exceptional, and you can even see Fort Sumter in the distance.  This highlighted the general sense of history and Charleston's rich heritage for me; I definitely need to visit Fort Sumter soon :-) Despite the beauty of the site, the crowds were pretty minimal on the day we were there, so we spent a leisurely time strolling the grounds and enjoying the shade under the numerous heritage trees. Noticing a large number of birds during our visit, I checked on Google and discovered that Battery Park is a rookery for Black Crown Herons.  This is a definite plus for bird watchers; it also means that you need to watch where you sit to avoid the droppings ;-) read more

Very well maintained and clean park. Lots of shade from the oak trees and a small gazebo. A great place to take the dogs (I believe there is a off-leash dog area), take photos, exercise, or just go for a stroll. The view here is beautiful. read more

White Point Garden is a great activity to incorporate with your visit to the Battery and Rainbow Row in this historic city, it's a short walk away. The park is open from dawn until 11 PM. Pets are welcome, but they must be leashed from 9-5. This is first and foremost a waterfront park, but there are a couple of things to see as you stroll through. We spotted military memorabilia, a gazebo and a couple of statues. I enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful homes surrounding this park too! read more

Such a cool place! I stopped here briefly when passing through Charleston. They have magnificent trees! It would be a great place to have a picnic. I like that you are close to the water, so you can take a stroll along the coastline or sit down on a bench and birdwatch. Definitely recommend! read more

We stopped here before we headed back home, so the kids could run around and play some first. It is such a nice little area. You have beautiful views of the water and several statues to see and appreciate. Also, many of the oak trees are really big and beautiful. If you've seen touristy pictures of Charleston, like kids sitting on fountains or people playing on a stack of replica cannon balls, you've seen White Point Garden. It's one of the most photographed areas of town, but still worth visiting if you're in the area. The carriage tours pass by here, and in the afternoons, you can find people sightseeing, sitting on the benches, or walking their dogs. The big oak trees make for a shady park to cool off and enjoy the breeze on the Battery. If you're lucky, you can snag a street parking spot too! read more

Whenever I am showing friends around who have never visited Charleston, I always make sure to stop at White Point Garden. It's truly a beautiful spot to soak up the lovely harbor views as well as the history of the city. The space is lovely and looking at the huge mansions on the street is always fun. I have fond memories coming here as a kid and playing on the cannonballs and cannons that line the water. Definitely a top 5 spot for those visiting the city. read more

The land overlooking the water is full of locally distinctive trees, well-manicured grass, a gazebo, and some small artillery. It's quite a beautiful area that conveys a bit of history while being a stop for a variety of people in the present. Because of the location, you're likely to get a good breeze off the water, which combined with the shade from the trees means that this is about the coolest outdoor spot in the city. read more

I love bringing visitors here, especially the ones with kids, because they love climbing on the cannons. Most of the park is shaded too, which is especially nice in the summer months when it is super hot. There is a large gazebo in the center of the park which would be nice for an engagement or wedding (or just the photos after). There is also parking along here, though more difficult to get a spot when it's busy. My most recent trip was on a weekday morning and there were several spots available since most people there were locals walking their dogs or going for a quick run. read more

We were in Charleston to do a family photo shoot, and the photographer recommended White Point Gardens. It was the perfect setting, lots of old growth, southern trees, the water along the battery, and the historic Charleston homes. Lots of different backdrops to pick from! The park is gorgeous- tons of live oaks, plenty of shade and space to just plop down and enjoy that breeze coming off the water. In the tops of these gorgeous trees you should glimpse Yellow-crowned Night Herons- they are nesting here and there are little signs posted about protecting them and their habitat. There is a beautiful gazebo just off center of the park too- I imagine popular for weddings. Fun fact is that during pirate days (early 1700's), Charleston held pirate executions here. There are an assortment of monuments around the park- one large one on the point, it's a beautiful statue but dedicated to the confederates. We had seen protesters out on Saturday (from the water)- one side of the street had about 20 people with black lives matter signs and on the other side- in front of the statue was a small group of three people waiving a confederate flag. I honestly think it is time to put all those types of monuments in one museum that discusses the history of the Civil War instead of having them out in public spaces sensationalizing a time of unrest in our country. Just my opinion. The park was lovely, maybe next time I visit the scenery might be a bit different. read more

I do believe Live Oak trees are the most lovely trees... short trunks, wide canopy, a light covering of green moss, low hanging branches and synonymous with the Old South. But those Live Oak trees are just one of many reasons I liked White Point Gardens (Park) so much. Beside the obvious that the park is loaded with Live Oak (and other landscaping), the park is maintained meticulously (manicured hedges, no signs of trash or debris and not a weed in sight. The statues, cannons and the gravel walkways leading thru the park give a southern feel and the white gazebo in the center of the park is the icing on the cake. The gazebo is the perfect centerpiece making the perfect setting for a wedding, community event or a public town lecture. As impressive as the ambiance is, something else caught my eye... a pay phone. What is it with pay phones that makes so many of us chuckle. Kids in their 20's don't understand what I'm talking about but for older generations these phones were EVERYWHERE (a public antique on display). Before leaving town, we stopped by for one last walk thru the park. I kept hearing branches shake here and there but no wind was blowing, nothing to be seen.... it was odd. I would hear a noise and turn in that direction... nothing... then another noise over there and I would turn to see nothing again. Then I caught a glimpse of these strange birds. It must be a mating ritual because upon careful observation they were everywhere BUT they were only in pairs. Don't know what kind of birds they were but they were impressive to watch. If anyone knows what kind of bird they are, please let me know. read more

White Point Garden is a nice little park downtown at the Battery; sometimes referred to as Battery Park due to it's location. The park is located between the Battery and the lovely homes that adorn the streets. Pets are welcome at this park and are suppose to be on the leash from 9AM to 5PM; but there really isn't a fence, so I'd suggest keeping the leashed at all times. In the park there are plenty of huge trees providing shade during the hot summer months, statues, memorials, and historical markers. read more

This is one of our main stops when we come to town. We love waking all the way down to the battery. It was a great place to sit, relax and enjoy the breeze. There are plenty of plaques that describe what happened in the area. It's is really a beautiful area. We have been in town when the weather was not so great and the water was splashing over the wall and spraying us with the salt water. The pollen was so thick and I had a bad reaction to it. The cars left on the street were green/yellow and you could see when the wind blew the pollen fog in the air. My eyes swelled up bad. If you have allergies take something before coming to the area. read more

A beautiful park with statues and a central bandstand. You can walk the Battery for a long way and get magnificent views of the harbor. the day we were there the crowds were enormous. You may have to ride around for a while until a parking spot opens up. The streets are small and narrow and some of the parking places are only 1 hour limit so be sure you look when you park. The Live Oak trees are gorgeous and trapped with Spanish Moss. Take some time to enjoy. read more

Charleston is better done by tour where you can learn a little history while visiting the many historical sites. From the reviews and descriptions I read prior to my visit, I imagined a much different picture of this city and especially White Point Gardens. As a visitor, I thought the park was a great spot for reading or walking you dog if you live in the area, but nothing about it would draw me here otherwise. We walked along the seawall (which had an awful smell) and looked out over the Battery, read the signs below the many monuments and took pictures of some of the nearby homes, but that was about it. In contrast, Charleston Waterfront Park and the Waterfront Memorial Park and Visitor Center in Mt. Pleasant were beautiful. We found ourselves revisiting them multiple times during our 6 day stay. The Carriage Tours will help you better appreciate some of the homes, parks and history associated with many of these places. read more

We stopped here while in Charleston. White Point Gardens has beautiful trees that is surrounded with a bunch of exquisitely multi-million dollar historical homes that have been beautifully restored, though as others have stated, no there is not much to see. My children enjoyed playing around the cannons. Sorry, I rarely write political reviews, but it is what it is. I am not a fan of southern history, so of course I did not like the united daughters of confederacy landmarks posted around the park. There is nothing good about the Confederacy of The American Civil War. Thank you Ulysses S. Grant. There is a huge monument that reads "To the confederate defenders of Charleston," defenders of what?
