She goes beyond and up for what she has done for our son. Taking the time to hand write notes about special things he does and understanding his situation. She makes me feel as a parent that my child is her only student even though I know he isn't. Words can't express what this women has done for my family and I and our precious little boy we hold so dear. Her Kindergarten teacher was Mrs. Broaddus and the teacher's helper was Miss Amy, who is probably the sweetest woman you'll ever meet! Instead of the usual school supply list, we were asked to bring donations for the classroom. For school lunch she was given the option of a school lunch or to bring her own and we love packing her lunch! Her class of 26 students had so many fun themed days, our daughter's favorite, jammie and stuffed animal day! Always lots of art work brought home and I have them to thank for helping our daughter make so many great friends, encouraging her to read, count and write! And of course you cannot forget music time, PE, recess and free time! They even went on a field trip to the Sacramento Zoo! You cannot give less than 5 stars for schools who are giving your child the gift of an education! Yesterday was the last day of school and we're so proud of our soon to be first grader! But for a number of reasons we had to pull both kiddos out. In a minor panic we looked at nearly a dozen alternatives locally and out of the area. Then we ran into Capital Innovations Academy. Our oldest started at the end of her freshman year (she's a junior now) and our youngest started the following year. There are a few things we have done for our kiddos that have had amazing impacts over the years (California Learning Center, getting a IEP Advocate, etc...). Finding and enrolling them in CI Academy is absolutely one of them if not the very best. Our kids are wonderful but they are complicated and have their challenges. The teachers there are all fantastic, Sarah is incredible (I don't know how she does it) and the programs are so unique and refreshing. I have seen my kids go from struggling and falling behind to blossoming and thriving. They have found new interests (my youngest is in a play and playing the drums!) and have personal and academic growth. We couldn't be happier. There is no school that is going to perfect, it's not obtainable. Where there are humans there will be friction, but this is handled better at CI Academy then anywhere else I have every seen. It allows for a path to grow, I've seen it reflected in our kids. My kids still struggle with their challenges, they likely will all their lives, my oldest still has a hard time making friends. But there is no better place that they could be at for their high school journey. We no longer worry as much about high school, we now worry about them not having the amazing supporting teachers and staff when they graduate.

Be all in because now we're in a situation where we're being harassed by another student's parents. Certain staff like to pretend to mentor the kids (when they're not even qualified to do so) just for whatever concerning discovery made not to be shared with the parent. They gossip about rumors instead of putting an end to em. I'm so sick of this place. The brunt of my negative experience is because of their doing. They put it all in motion for it to happen. My child witnessed something really traumatizing there and the aftercare was non existent. No offers for counseling. No calls to me when the police spoke to my child. Like aren't they supposed to get my permission? I have a daughter at kjms who will be a freshman next year. I signed her up for El Camino so quickly. There is NO WAY I'd let her attend Encina. I want her around competent school staff. If this is your neighborhood school let them only attend for a year and get them out of their once lottery comes around. They also built a new library sometime in my junior year. Both places were pretty nice. I loved all of my teachers (I was in Special Ed, but I took some General Ed classes)! The staff there were also very friendly as well. The reason I chose this school was because my old friends wanted to go there, but I made new friends there too. My absolute favorite teachers were Mrs. Lorge, Mr. Kaul, and Ms. Uno. Sadly, the latter two retired after I graduated, but they were very awesome! I enjoyed spending my four years at this school.

My step-daughter is in fifth grade here and has been since kindergarten. My wife has two older…read morechildren who attended here and she raves about the school, I am not impressed however. My step-son is brilliant but undisciplined and he was allowed to "graduate" sixth grade without doing any work at all and only getting "1's" and "2's" his whole career there. My oldest step-child would've succeeded anywhere anyhow and still does..... My fifth grade daughter has had much the same experience as my son until this year. This year I've been heavily involved and her teacher is very communicative and the difference has been huge. The school goes on wonderful field trips in every grade. The music program is awesome, my daughter has class for 30min 3x's/week and is learning quickly. The office staff are typically rude. The parking lot ( pickup / drop off ) is well managed and there is a great focus on child safety and using crosswalks. There's also a crossing guard and a " lighted?" Crosswalk just for school goers. P.E. is not a large focus but I believe funding is gone for health at most elementry schools. The children do have a large field, two playgrounds, ball courts, basketball courts and a basebal / kickball backstop. The surrounding area is typical for the city except that there is an outpatient psychiatric facility about 1 mile up mission avenue. There are people often in the area that " act weird " but I've heard of nothing harmful from them. I would rather my daughter been in a different school for all previous years but I am happy with her, her teacher and myself right. I wouldn't choose to enroll another child in this school but I'm alright with my daughter finishing out this year there.
