Imperial red ale from prohibition brewery!

I had great luck finding some awesome spots in Jackson on my last trip....Fondren Public was no different. Sure, the server seemed like she could care less about me...but she wasn't outright rude - just not as attentive as I found everyone else in Jackson to be. Not a huge deal - I'm from Miami originally....ANY customer service is GOOD customer service for me. FP has a GREAT beer list! I was on a mission to try some local brews (drank a lot of Lucky town on this trip) but this time went with the Imperial Red Ale from Prohibition Brewery - it was super solid! I had a pickled plate which came with carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers. It was a great little snack and I imagine getting a few of these for a table - sipping some beers - chatting with friends. And the highlight was the fried cheese - pepper jack cheese, battered and fried with candied bacon and a sweet Tabasco glaze! WOW! A nice kick...a nice sweet/salty flavor...and they were great. Nice size to share for an app! Everything was reasonably priced - and because I was there midweek it wasn't that busy. I hear on the weekends this place gets SLAMMED. I'll be back on another trip to Jackson - and look forward to checking out more of the menu options (yes, you know that means mainly more of the beer options!)

What a fun spot tucked away almost out of sight! Drinks were excellently made and price wasn't bad. They have a great patio with a bocce ball court. Music playing and TVs placed in perfect spots. If we lived near we would totally come here often. If ever back in Fondren we will be back for sure!

Fondren Public has quickly become my favorite bar for hanging out in Jackson. Most of its appeal lies in the space itself-- it's a huge, open plan with tons of seating, big, tall booths, a huge bar and a gorgeous, covered patio area that's heated in the colder months. (Well, this is Jackson, MS, so I should clarify that we only actually have a few weeks of cold per year.) Inside, patrons can play table shuffleboard. Outdoors, cornhole or bocci ball await. The atmosphere is casual and chill but still young and lively. While the crowd can get a bit "bro"-heavy (you know what I mean), it's usually a super interesting and diverse crowd. The bartenders and servers are cool and friendly, and I've never had a negative experience as far as service. There's also televisions throughout the bar, which makes it a great spot for catching the game. I watched a couple World Cup games here as well as some Mississippi football games and it's always a good time. The crowd is super fun, but never rowdy or overbearing. The rare occasion I've seen some sort of conflict arise (which is simply bound to happen every now and then in a bar), FP's security has handled it swiftly, safely and subtly. The drink selections are excellent. With TONS of beers on tap, including plenty of local variety, as well as a great selection of well made cocktails, there's something for everyone to sip on. I haven't tried all of the food selections, but everything I've tried has been delicious. I highly suggest getting a plate of the sliders. The pulled pork is particularly yummy. Just a short walk from everything in Downtown Fondren, Fondren Public is a go-to spot for my friends and I whether we're looking for a casual afternoon drink or a big night out. It's great to see this bar do well for itself because I think they're a fantastic addition to the Jackson scene.

This is a great place to watch football, and have a couple of drinks! The only suggestion I have is to keep improving the quality of food.

Is this a good place for hosting meetups? Do they have any private or semi-private rooms available? Is it very loud for such things?

Great for meet ups but it is an open room time space. If you are looking private you should try renting the entire space.

Rustic little spot near the corner of West and George St. I always thought it was strictly a bar, which probably accounts for me never eating here before. Only one guy worked the dining room but he did a good job for the most part. I ordered the Old Tavern Burger with the house cut fries. I asked if they really were house cut and he told me they cut them when ordered. My food didn't take long to come out and everything was piping hot. When I saw the shine on that bun and felt how soft it was, I knew I was in for a treat. This was one of the best burgers I've tasted. The patty was fresh and well seasoned and not dry at all. The fries made me super happy, as they were not only fresh cut but seasoned as well. While I was eating, two guys from the kitchen came out to check on everyone to ensure everyone was enjoying their food. My first visit won't be my last!

Anyway Amie very kindly sat us near the window and wished us good evening. The interior is quite nice and clearly a very old building repurposed into a dining area and nice looking bar. Almost forgot Amie did offer to seat us in the air conditioned patio however we chose to sit near the windows and battled flies to boot! lol. Fortunately I had our trusty fly repeller thingy which kept them at bay. Although I do think the restaurant should invest in those wall mounted fly gizmos as I did see a wasp or two as well. Be careful out there! Now as to our friendly server Allie M , she was kind , quick , and attentive. We each had the brewery's Mr Sippi pilsner was tasty and more importantly cold! I followed that with an excellent Malbec. My wife had a chicken salad and I had a pizza. All were good. Oh and their fries ? Excellent!

We ordered takeout from here on a Saturday around 2pm…read more Cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza, and an order of buffalo wings. Everything was ready in about 20 minutes as estimated by the employee who took our order. The restaurant itself, while we didn't dine-in, looked nice inside with an indoor/outdoor setup. We were with our dog and had just finished doing some sightseeing so we wanted to get back to our rental to eat. All of the food was awesome! The wings were absolutely delicious! Wings are a staple of my wife's diet when visiting a pub/bar and I will say confidently these wings were the best I've ever tasted (across the country). If all wings tasted this good then I'd eat them all the time too. Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and plenty of meat on each wing. They literally didn't need sauce. The pizza was equally as good, and I'm unashamedly snobby and critical about pizza. Admittedly, the only thing that may put people off is how greasy they are. I literally had a grease stain on my pants after resting the box on my lap for a couple of minutes on the ride home. But that aside, the flavor of both pizzas was fantastic! Perfect amount of cheese, a great tasting sauce, and a perfectly charred crust that wasn't too thick or too thin (although you will need to fold it to eat it or the slice will flop downward from the weight of the cheese). If you love pizza and wings, then eat here. As an aside, I've also had their beer, which is served at the property we were staying at, in Vicksburg. The Mr. Sippi is a very drinkable Pilsner. So all-in-all, you can't go wrong here!
