We brought my daughter in a stroller and a dog on a leash and found the crowds manageable, and a nice family friendly ambiance. The vendors had quite some variety - olive oils, dip mixes, fruits, veggies, coffees, bakery, food trucks, local ketchup, flowers, etc. They also had some live music which was fun. I get there right at 8am and beeline to that stand. They give you a pager while you wait which gives me time to do a lap or two around the market. This one was mostly vegetables with few fruits and flowers compared to the other farmers markets that I have been to. There was none of the soaps, honeys and specialty items either. There is very little prepared food with a Chinese place that had egg rolls and crab Rangoon while the other end had roasted corn and shaved ice, that's as good as it got. No food trucks or carts of any kind, there is plenty of people traffic to warrant one. My hot pepper hunt fell flat and a basket of jalapeños for $2 was as exotic as it got while lunch was one egg roll and one crab Rangoon for $2 so it was mostly a bust today on this trip. This Farmer marker ended up being mostly vegetables so if that's what you are looking for than your good. If your looking for a grander Farmers Market with excellent variety than try the Greenfield one, way better.

People in Milwaukee are lame and never go out of the 2-3 "hip" areas, so since this is literally my front yard - get your chicken shit butts over here and get some red beets. If you were not such a bunch of lame-o's Milwaukee, this area would look like Humboldt Park, Chicago, or Williamsburg, Brooklyn now! Get on it! I've never seen it crowded which makes it quick in and out. Parking in the area can be tricky, but there's usually a spot somewhat close to the one block market area. Recently there's been a killer biscuit maker on site and a cool mushroom seller, as well as a cheese booth with lots of options on hand. Worth checking out.

There are usually at least half a dozen food trucks lined up along the park, and other vendors if you want to purchase lunch at the market. There are another half dozen plus vendors for fresh produce, flowers, and other such things. For a lunchtime downtown weekday farmer's market, I would say there is a nice variety of seasonal vegetables usually available, and the prices are good. Other stands with baked goods and crafts are also present. If you have a half an hour to spare on your lunch break and you work downtown, I would recommend stopping by. Sometimes you'll even find live music.

Food trucks, food stands, tents full of fresh vegetables and fruits, a florist making bouquets to order and even a live band on the center gazebo stage. I had a clear plastic container of nachos loaded with chicken and sour cream and tomatoes and onions and even a couple jalapenos. Yummy. For dessert, I went with the fresh-made Nutella crepe but that was a little disappointing actually. A small spread of Nutella and then a big squeeze of chocolate sauce. The big handful of slivered almonds was good though. Really enjoyed the opportunity to get outside, get some fresh air and some sunshine. Not much for seating though unless you want grass stains on your butt.

I recently stopped by Pete's Fruit Market for the first time after hearing about it. As soon as I…read morewalked in, I saw buckets of vegetables: peppers, tomatoes, squash, you name it. Most buckets seemed to be about 6-8 inches in diameter and prices ranged from $1 to $5. I only wish they offer smaller buckets instead of such a big bucket. It is hard to buy in bulk with smaller household and I don't like to freeze produce. I was curious about the quality of the produce, but I wasn't too impressed. For example, the apricots looked a little banged up--kind of like the "misfit" produce I've seen before. There was upbeat Mexican music playing, which gave the place a fun vibe, and the store itself isn't that big. A security guard was stationed outside. They had yellow-flesh watermelon at $0.99/lb, and giant seeded watermelons for $16 each--which felt pricey, especially since I had just come from Costco where I got a decent-sized watermelon for $6 (though admittedly smaller than the ones at Pete's). I also noticed mangoes going for $2 each, which again felt steep. I had been hoping to find some Mexican pastries, but nothing really stood out, and there weren't any prepared foods available. However, I saw they got a catering menu which I thought it might be good to have a food court selling those items. I was expecting something more like La Michoacana or Fiesta stores in Texas, but this wasn't it. In the end, I just picked up a few Mexican candies like Pulparindo and called it a day. I was a bit disappointed with the fruit selection, especially the lack of tropical options. On the plus side, they have a fairly large, gated parking lot, which is convenient. I'm glad I visited, but not sure I'll be rushing back anytime soon.

Was also hoping for a fresh produce seller, and I'm sure the neighborhood families that flock to this market would eat it all up. Sadly, we missed the memo that there were other food trucks there besides Heirloom - behind the church in their parking lot. But that just gives us a reason to return.

2021 is the first year for the Washington Heights Night Market (held once a month on Thursdays) and…read moreit's a nice little event! The location is between 54th and 55th on Washington Boulevard, so right in the middle of the neighborhood. This was the first market day and it was great to see how well attended it was. There were roughly 20 stands, mostly local crafters. Vennture was pouring beer, Charles Fromage had wine and snacks and Heirloom brought the food truck. There was even a fashion bus which was fun. I left with a few candles from Fern and Leaf and had a good time. I'd love to see some produce suppliers at future markets, and maybe another food truck.
