I visited Lisbon, Portugal, for the first time in November 2021 and stayed at Fontecruz Lisboa! It was a WONDERFUL experience. All the staff we encountered was amicable and welcoming. They offered many suggestions for things to do in Lisbon. We booked a tour of Lisbon in a sidecar through the hotel; I highly recommend this activity. The location of this hotel is conveniently located by shops (Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Mango, and many more) as well as cafes, restaurants, and parks. All in walking distance. At the time of this post, there is a happy hour daily from 4 pm-6 pm. I would gladly return to this hotel again! read more

I have nothing but good things to say about the Fontecruz Lisboa. My spouse and I stayed 3 nights at this posh hotel before departing for an Iberian cruise. I requested a room upgrade since I had Marriott perks to burn, and I honestly wasn't expecting much. My jaw dropped upon entering the room. The suite was huge - we had two balconies, two TVs, a vanity and a fancy ass chaise. The Fontecruz really came through with the room upgrade. Another huge perk was the free breakfast buffet every morning. There wasn't much in the way of vegan fare, but I managed to get a decent plate of random stuff to feel satiated. Besides, the free champagne kept me happy. The staff were awesome, too. We arrived earlier than check-in and dropped off our bags at the front desk. When we returned to pick up our bags, we were informed the bags were waiting for us in our room. Sweet! A staff member even walked us directly to our room once we were handed the room keys. Beautiful modern property. The staff is multi-lingual ( for us lazy Americans). The check in process was easy and were quickly greeted by the bell hop. Our rate included breakfast. It was a great variety and included champagne. The bar and restaurant staff are outstanding. They open at 0730 but let us in 19 minutes early to accommodate our schedule. Marco was great in the bar and creates the best craft cocktails!!! Our only problem was the heat wave, which this country is not accustomed to, so be ready for struggling AC (hotel , cats, subways, etc.) This is worth the stay for a 5 star experience! read more

The positives about this property are the location and the amazing breakfast, which is included for elites. Sadly their customer service is simply terrible and the hotel is old. My room (king balcony overlooking Av Liberdade) has a sewage smell. The hotel is aware of it yet told me there is nothing that could be done about it as the hotel is "old". And yet they charge extra to book this room. They also wouldn't honor my rate even though I had a confirmation email form Marriott. After speaking with Marriott CS they agreed that is the rate that should be charged. And yet, the Fontecruz charged me a higher rate. Be very careful before booking this property. read more

Recently stayed at the Fontecruz for a week long vacation in Lisbon. While I enjoyed my stay, I have to say that I agree with those who say it's not really a 5 star caliber hotel but with the "Autograph' properties it can be a bit subjective. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We never encountered anything but smiles, but as others mentioned the amenities are lacking a bit. If anything, what makes this hotel worthy of staying here is the location. It is very centrally located on the Avenida de Libertad - walking distance to almost everything. It's also a safe and lovely location to take an evening stroll or just hang out on the avenue in the evening. We really enjoyed the location. The rooms are quite nice but not what I deem 'luxurious'. Also, the bathroom has a glass wall which when anyone uses it in the middle of the night or if someone gets up earlier than the other it lights up the entire bedroom which was quite disruptive. That said, the servicing of the room was fine and prompt, we never had a problem with that. Also, we faced the back and didn't have a problem with noise as a few others mentioned. Would I stay here again? Definitely but I would tamper my expectations and truthfully it was a smidge on the pricey side for not being as luxurious. However, we were there during the high summer season so that could've played into it as well. read more

from their sister co: 1. I bought an adult soccer shoe and a baby shoe from Adidas Sevilla on February 02, 2023 (thursday) for EUR133.50 = $145.88 USD. We left them in the unopened adidas boxes in the room. On saturday February 04, 2023, we realized that it was missing. We went to the front desk to ask about it and they said they will check with the housekeeping team. After some time checking with multiple employees, they've deemed that it might've been mistakenly discarded. We were told that they were discussing reimbursements for the missing shoes but the front desk team were told by the management in Madrid that they had a procedure in which they needed to deep clean the room to check and make sure that it's not somewhere in the room. We were then told that the reimbursement will not gonna be paid by checkout but that they're waiting for management in Madrid to approve. We were then asked to give the receipt, which we told them that the receipts were in the bag that consists the two boxes. In lieu of that, we sent them the credit card transaction statement and that they were going to reimburse promptly. However, until today and after numerous attempts to ask for updates, reimbursement has not been made and communication by management has been poor. This is frustrating and unacceptable! I understand that the hotel has only been newly branded as part of Marriott's Tribute Portfolio but I believe that. we've given them plenty of time to figure out what the course of action should be. The issue was first raised on February 04 and it's now almost 10 days and they've mostly been ignoring the case, providing no updates. I can elaborate much more in detail if you need me to. I can also send you the copy of the credit card transaction statement and screenshots of the correspondence with the property. 2. Wifi was pretty much non-existent. Max wifi speed i've recorded with speedtest.net was about 3.95mbps, which is unacceptable in this day and age. People (us included) have to work remotely these days and having a wifi speed of less than 4mbps is just insane. We had multiple meetings and zoom calls that we couldn't use the hotel wifi and we scrambled to find another solution. We had to buy a prepaid simcard for about 30EUR and do a personal hotspot tethering to get our wifi. We can't get anything done with the hotel wifi. At the very least, a Marriott hotel should have AT LEAST 25-30mbps. When we asked the front desk team, we were told that yes the hotel deliberately max out the wifi at 4 mbps. Seriously? 3. On the first morning of our stay, there were active construction on the kitchen area and toilet of the breakfast area. Construction workers were drilling and hammering things and we could hear extremely loud banging noises while eating our breakfast. This is just unacceptable. 4. Similarly, on January 06, starting. around 8am, we were woken up by loud construction noises. 5. The hotel is not accessible for anyone with a wheelchair or a stroller or anyone that cannot climb up/down stairs. We had a baby with a stroller and couldn't access the main entrance. There was no ramp. Every time we had to enter/exit the hotel, we had to use the back entrance by calling the front desk to open the door. There was a time when calling the front desk, that the lady asked us why can't you enter through the front door, and we explained that we had a stroller, but she seemed insistent that we go from the front entrance. On Los Seises Marriott hotel profile, the hotel is listed as "Accessible Areas with Accessible Routes from Public Entrance Main Entrance is Accessible", which it's definitely not! 6. There were two instances when the housekeeping team came in without knocking the door. These were some of the concerns we had with the hotel. The way the management team handled the situation has also been terribly disappointing. This must be the worst response provided by any hotel management team I've ever encountered. I would recommend avoid staying at this hotel at all cost. read more

We stayed here for one night for an overnight layover in Lisbon, so we just had a small room with two twin beds and a bathroom. We still had a great experience, and the hotel is wonderful. The sliding doors make it a bit tricky to find when you're walking down the street, but it opens up to a gorgeous lobby with black-tile floors and ceilings that make it seem like you're floating in space. The neon lights and signs throughout the place area also a nice eclectic touch. The reception was helpful, kind, and were all around great people. The whole place has a modern, yet homely feel. After an afternoon sightseeing and an evening out in Sintra, we came back a little before midnight for a snack. The restaurant/bar, surprisingly, was still open and fairly busy. The food and drinks we had were amazing and tastefully reflected the local cuisine, all for a price that was very reasonable for a hotel restaurant. Definitely check it out. They also have a beautiful, neon-lighted courtyard in the back. Location-wise, the hotel is on an avenue with a lot of upscale clothing restaurants and is less than 1km away from one of the big plazas, which has a bus stop, tons of cafes and bakeries, and events in the square. read more

As a Marriott's silver elite member, I had high expectations...and I wasn't disappointed. From the modern lobby, sizable rooms and central location, it's obvious why this is a 5 star property. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived from NYC but the hotel happily took our luggage and gave us a reasonable timeframe to get lunch and have a room ready. When we returned, the bellman not only showed us to our room but also gave us a quick tour to acclimate us. The staff was always happy to provide advice, directions and help with transportation. After returning from a fabulous dinner on the night of my birthday, we stopped at the bar for an extra drink. When we mentioned that it was my birthday so I wanted a special drink, the bartender came through! His initial drink slightly missed the mark but he quickly recovered and made it right...because the bartender is always right! He also knew what room we were in by mention of my birthday because the staff had arranged a nice surprise to be brought to my room! What a nice gesture that moved me to add to the reasons this is one of my favorite hotels! I have to reiterate that the location of this hotel is worth every penny! It's walking distance around this beautiful city and close to all the swanky shopping anyone could ever want! I can't wait to return! read more

This is a part of the Marriott Autograph collection. Absolute boutique hotel that's rather chic & swanky...not recommended for traveling with children, as I did. My son said "this place is not kid friendly". Having said that, it's a fantastic location near all luxury shopping & not far from major sites & in the middle of everything. The accommodations are nice, very unique & contemporary. The staff is very attentive & willing to share their ideas on what to do & where to go. I'd recommend this place for couples, but not for families, or single parent with a child. read more

The people who work here appear to be very nice, but if you travel from USA, bring your expectations at least few levels down. Housekeeping is mediocre at best. This particular location is still in learning process of how to provide boutique-hotel experience. I do not know how they got together with Marriott. It says that it's a 5-star hotel, but it's not even close !!! One star for the location and one for availability of the breakfast, witch you would expect these days from any, more or less, decent hotel. There is nothing else. Had a wonderful 5 night stay here with extended family. The hotel is in a fantastic location, close to shopping, sightseeing, the metro, and a multitude of delicious drinking & dining options. The decor is dark & modern and our room was spacious & comfortable. The bar & outdoor patio are cozy & inviting. We had a few issues with room keys & maintaining a consistent room temperature, but all issues were addressed by staff in a timely manner. The breakfast buffet was tasty & filling, if a little bit pricey. The real stars of this hotel are the staff. Everyone was very friendly & helpful & I can't thank them enough for their assistance making birthday dinner reservations, researching several bakery options for a cake, making car rental reservations, and lots of general help & advice on navigating the city & surrounding areas. I would specifically like to thank David, Veronica, & Diego at the front desk for going above & beyond! I would also like to thank Ohana & Fernando for serving up many refreshing beverages after long days of exploring the city and for their kindness & attention to my family. I wish we had spent more than one night here. Our room was very large -- gargantuan by European standards -- with a separate living room area and an oversize bed. It was the most comfortable bed we had during our two-week trip through Spain and Portugal and had the best shower. The hotel is hip and trendy meant more for adults than kids. The service was excellent, and they provided us with a great tip for lunch. It's near many swanky stores but a short hop to most attractions, and there's a metro stop less than a block away. You can't beat the value for what this hotel provides. read more

This was an exceptional experience. Alejandro and Margarida and all the front desk people were amazingly helpful. We arrived from NYC before check in and had a lovely lunch on the terrace while waiting for the room. The food was incredible--risotto with mushrooms was outstanding as was the salad with goat cheese. They got the room ready early and it had an amazing view of classic Lisbon rooftops and a park in the distance. They sent up cake and sparkling wine for my husband's birthday. They were so helpful in suggesting what to see and how to get there. We're returning in April because it's such an exceptional place. I seriously want to return to Portugal, Lisbon specifically to stay at this property again. It's perfectly located near most everything you'd want to do while visiting Lisboa; a ton of amazing great places to eat (snacks and dessert to sit-down 7 course meals), the most premium shopping area and it's just a beautiful part of the city. The challenge is that when you stay at the Fontecruz you are tempted to stay in. I had an amazing room with it's own patio which was perfect for sipping port and eating cheese or sweets. The breakfast has something for everyone. The lobby is comfortable to hang out in and they have their own outside seating area that is quite enticing as well. Specifically, I was quite impressed with Marta, the Manager of the hotel, as she was there to great me when I arrived AND was always quick to make it right if I had a request or question... not to have someone make it right, she jumped in and handled it. And then there's the amazing (and my new crush) Margarita at the front desk. Not only was she sweet and accommodating, but I needed a haircut while I was there, so she make a great recommendation and now I'm looking fly while I was exploring Portugal. She also made great food recommendations for my party up in the north (we went to Porto for 2 days). The type of service that makes you remember a place. Just to show I'm not doing a complete snow job here, I will say this... their workout facility is lacking. Not even a decent set of weights and the machines, not so much. This could be an American thing, working out while on vacation, and I'm not trying to start any cultural stuff, it was just the one thing I'd like to see improved. This, too, forced me out of my hotel room and to jog for exercise, around the city. I will go back. I will stay here. And I will bring a date! I would recommend this hotel over and over again. My husband and I flew into Lisbon from Barcelona minus a bag (Air Berlin lost my suitcase) and when we asked Joao from the front desk to assist us with calling the airlines (we were having trouble getting ahold of anyone) he insisted on getting all of the pertinent information so that we could go out and sight-see (and buy some clothes and toiletries) while he took care of calling. For almost 2 hours he called various numbers for the airlines trying to track down my bag, freeing us to explore Lisbon. Joao eventually found my bag and helped make plans for them to deliver it to Porto (where we were headed next). I have never had such excellent service and such a wonderful attitude from a hotel. Joao and his front desk staff also made excellent dinner recommendations for us. (Pinochios was delicious!) He even ran outside to check the metro schedule at one point since we wanted to go to the airport by metro to save money. One night we wanted to watch an NBA basketball playoff game (Go Warriors!) and he started calling bars and other hotels for us to find out who would show the game....turned out Fontecruz had the channel in the bar area, so he set up the TV on the correct channel and made sure we were comfortable to watch the game. I could go on and on about the service we received...it was well worth the money we spent to stay there! Logistically the hotel was in a great location - on the main drag and walkable to all of the areas of Lisbon we wanted to explore. The room itself was very nice, modern and in great condition. As a Platinum Elite member I wanted to try this hotel during our visit to Lisbon. I have tried many Marriott hotels and other brands all over the world and quite a few in Lisbon. This hotel is rated as 5 star Hotel. I wonder by whom and why? We got a room on the third floor facing the street. One of the two big rooms on the third floor. It was a big sized room which was appreciated. One chair and an arm chair, a closet cabinet a small table and bedside tables made from old fashion travel boxes. There was no "no disturb sign" in the room. We had to call for one. The corridors are black. The rooms are very dark/black and very difficult to light up. The restaurant is black. The bathroom was black and at arrival a bulb did not work and made it even more dark and black. We had to wait for a new one as it was a holiday. One bulb in the closet cabinet was also broken and was not fixed as requested. We requested and explained again to the room service staff and finally got it changed. Only one bathrobe and one pair of slippers in the room! There was a sewage stank from the drain in the bathroom, we did not report this. When we checked in the staff informed us that we could adjust the temperature in the room by the setting by the control on the wall. Some days later when temperature dropped we could not adjust the room temperature as the central unit down at the reception was off!! Why? When it was then centrally put on , 30 degrees were set! Why 30? 22 C is a sufficient setting to make it comfortable. A coffee brewer was available in the room. Only one coffee capsule per person was included free for the whole stay and after that EUR 2 per capsule. I suggest that the room rate is increased EUR 10 and have free coffee and tea. In the refrigerator water in small bottles 0.25 lwere available for EUR 4.5 each. Only the first day only one bottle 0.5 l was free,after that the small bottles were available and charged as above. I suggest that you increase the room rate EUR 10 and make two 0.5 l free bottles of water available every day. For a KitKat - EUR 5.5 is charged. Tea bags were missing. Tea cups were missing! The prices and coffee policy are weird. Very stingy indeed. Go around the corner and buy 5 l water for EUR 2.5 You can also buy coffee capsules outside the hotel for EUR 3.0 for 10 pcs. I have never experienced such an expensive minibar ever and such a policy in any other Hotel including all Marriott brands we have stayed in especially the 5 star ones. We came back to the room after 5 hours out the first day - and the room was not made up. No amenities as shampoo, gel etc. were replaced! We asked the room service staff many times before she finally got back with some amenities. No small towels in the bathroom and when requested we only got one. We got two bathroom mats instead of medium sized towels and all the towels were very worn. One bathroom towel was dirty. Not a 5 star hotel. We contacted the room service manager who promised that she would see to that the room would be served as it should. A list of what amenities are expected was given to her. She kept her promise and the room was served according to the list presented. We had to ask for a note pad! Why not an exhaust fan in the bathroom? Why are all walls so dark? What is the idea behind this? Trendy? Why is the lobby and restaurant so dark, why? I have never beside twice seen such a black and dark hotels in any part of the world. One time was in Lisbon and that time the Hilton Hotel! Why in Portugal and in Lisbon? The other one we have experienced was in Indonesia at Banyan Tree Bintan. I do not really believe this is a 5 star hotel. The fourth evening the WIFI pin access No. was suddenly changed. When I contacted the front desk they said that the first PIN was to last our whole stay. I informed them this was not the case. Very irritating indeed. There was no explanation. The Buffet breakfast is not a five star breakfast. The display of the food is questionable. Cold bacon, cold pre - made egg liquid omelette and cold fried mushrooms every day! Some days cold powder pancakes are available! There are heater boxes for the food but the food in there is cold? Also at 9-10 o'clock. The toaster should be changed as it is more than slow. At least three times to have a good toasted bread. The coffee quality and taste very doubtful. The flowers on the tables were dead! The bread and the croissant are old not fresh! Who is responsible? Is this 5 star in Lisbon? Learn a bit from Lisbon Marriott Hotel which is a 4 star Hotel. They also have lounge for members. One day when we came back after many hours out we had received one glass of juice in the room, as a compliment, I guess? One glass for two persons and not covered? Who rates this hotel as a 5 star? Can not be Marriott. If it was a Fairfield Hotel then you do not expect anything but a reasonable stay but this. is somehow by someone rated as a 5 Star Hotel! Then it should be 5 star. read more
