Deceptive Pricing and Poor Customer Service This article is about my repeated experiences at the Food Bazaar supermarket location I've been shopping at since 2022. I originally left a detailed review, but it was removed for unknown reasons. Since then, I've continued visiting this store, and unfortunately, the same problems have persisted--along with some new ones. The biggest and most consistent issue I've experienced is deceptive pricing. This isn't something that happened once or twice--it happens every single time I shop at this location. For over two years, items regularly ring up at a higher price than what is listed on the shelf. I've reported this issue to cashiers multiple times and asked them to notify supervisors, but nothing has ever been resolved. Most recently, I went to the store to buy beverages for a group. The shelf price clearly listed the item at $17.99, yet at checkout I was charged a higher price for so-called "beverages of 12 pack." This was never disclosed beforehand. This problem also happens frequently with produce. For example, mushrooms were advertised as two for five dollars, but I was charged six dollars for Bella mushrooms instead. When I returned to the cashier and pointed out the incorrect charge, I was told I had to go to Register One to receive a refund. The issue? That line was extremely long. I ended up waiting 27 minutes just to get a refund--because the cashier rang up the wrong item. This situation has happened again and again. When I point out pricing errors, staff often respond with an attitude instead of accountability. I wear my city credentials around my neck, which is when I decided to start documenting these experiences. Each visit feels the same: rude staff, dismissive responses, and no real customer service. Security is another concern. There is a lack of English-speaking security and poor observation overall. I've personally witnessed people stealing food while security did nothing--yet I've been stopped or questioned simply for carrying my own shopping bag. This is especially frustrating considering the store frequently lacks enough shopping carts and baskets for customers. None of these concerns have been properly addressed in over two years. That's the main reason I stopped shopping at this location and now prefer the Long Island City Food Bazaar instead. Even so, I recently returned--and once again experienced overcharging. This kind of deceptive pricing should not be happening. Customers should not have to carefully monitor every scanned item just to make sure they aren't being overcharged. In my experience, this reflects a serious lack of customer service. Another recurring issue is that the express checkout line is often closed for no clear reason, even during busy afternoons. Customers with only three or four items are forced to wait 10 minutes or more just to check out. Cashiers frequently talk among themselves and don't pay close attention while scanning items, which likely contributes to the constant pricing errors. The store itself is overcrowded and appears to be more Spanish-oriented. There is also a noticeable lack of Asian ingredients compared to other Food Bazaar locations. Again, the Long Island City location offers a much better shopping experience if you're able to make the trip. When I first visited this store in 2022, I thought it was a great place. I even recorded video of my shopping experience and left a positive review at the time. Sadly, since then, the quality has gone downhill--and that original review has since been removed. Cannot believe they are opened for 24/7. Now I can go out in the middle of the night to buy stuff I need without worrying about looking for a deli. It's just very convenient now. There is now a Rok Star in the back of the supermarket. Hot food station closes early and they pack up remains in boxes for 9.99. They are mostly yellow rice or white rice with chicken stew, beef stew, and fried tilapia. This supermarket has more Asian products now so that's a plus! read more

Big big big supermarket that has it all plus more, they are now open 24/7 which is incredibly convenient. There is always parking available if you are driving and lots of specials and promos to take advantage of. The checkout lines move quickly and their fresh produce is stocked consistently. I used the catering service for an event. The quality of the food and presentation was just right. The portions were ample and the price point can't be be beat. The items were ready according to my time frame. I will definitely us this service again read more

HORRIBLE! GO TO BK HARVEST! I came on a early Sunday afternoon (Sunday being the busiest day). Bottle service at 3 bins completely full, waited over 30 minutes for the staff to come back from lunch. It was 35 degrees and pouring rain and all customers got wet. There were only 4 cashier lines open. When finishing on the self checkout I was rudely told the self check out is only for 15 items or less. Again only 4 lines open on the busiest day and the busiest time of the week. When speaking to Micheal the supervisor not only was he filled with excuses for the lack of organization (I just got here) but was very very DISMISSIVE of my concerns. The only sliver lining in my over hour and half shopping experience was the LEAD CASHIER, she was extremely kind and patient. But that supervisor and lead on self checkout were TERRIBLE! No empathy for customer experience or understanding of the standing on the day with employees. I'm not sure why it took me forever to finally shop here since I live in the area and pass by it a lot. But I needed to find beef short ribs for a july 4th party and didn't want to travel to Hmart. To my surprise, when I searched on Instacart, it said this place had it and since it was walking distance- I wanted to check it out in person. This place feels like Hmart had a baby with a south american store. They have everything I could ever need and so much diversity too! I grew up in SoCal and there is NO store like Food Bazaar. The supermarket is a hit or miss, depending on what you get. They have lots of spanish and some asian goods. Sometimes the prepared cold-cuts, that are out, are not good, other times they are. The fresh fish is not of the best quality, and is often overpriced. The fruits, especially the grapes and berries, show signs of spoiling. Some of the meat on sale is alright. The quality of the meat is better than Bravo. The lines at Food Baazar can be long and chaotic. Some people do not understand the concept of the line, so they will happily skip. The people at the self checkout counter are very helpful. If you want good quality meat, fish, fruit or vegetables, you're better off going to Wegmans or Whole Foods. read more

I never write bad reviews for a grocery stores however the cashier her name was Alicia tixilema sold me a bag for $5.99 after I asked her for the $1 bag. The whole time she spoke perfect English but after I looked at my receipt she started to act like she didn't speak English and was acting dumb when I told her she charged me for the wrong bag with a smirk on her face. The manager on staff had to get me a refund for the bag. She knew what she was doing. I spoke English to her then once the other guy came she was pretending to not understand anything. Biggest grocery store in the neighborhood. I usually only get odds and ends here and use the self check-out machine. Staff usually circulates in case you have an issue with the machine. There is a fairly decent amount of items in the store, not too much. Service is somewhat okay if it's needed, with the exception of maybe bag check-in upon arrival. Atmosphere is not the worst compared to other places but could use some tidying up. 2 solid stars for now and that's me being generous, maybe one day they'll fix the way they operate. read more

Appalling customer service. I came to exchange smoked salmon that I bought 2 days ago, on Jan 6th, that I found out expired on Dec 31st (sure, I should have checked when I bought it). They told me I can exchange, so I went to the aisle, all 3 remaining ones were also expired (now 8 days). So I took 2 packs of 4oz (instead of the 8oz I brought back). At customer service, the lady told me I need to pay the difference of $2. She then called a manager who said I have to pay that difference. I told them that I'd be fine with a replacement of 8oz and it's not my fault they don't have any (i.e. not expired), and I am definitely not going to pay a difference. I find it pretty appalling that they would ask me to pay for the difference, but doing that when I just pointed out that they have 3 products that are also expired by more than a week - is just disgraceful. read more

This is big supermarket its located in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn . the lines can get very long here . the prices are mid range , not expensive like ozzies supermarket couple blocks away ( all dough I like ozzies supermarket ,lol) and key food supermarket next to ozzies is pricey as well . there do have a rewards program if you join which I find pretty cool , I wouldn't mind coming back if I'm in the area !!! very convenient by the mta transportation: Subway : J,M,Z-Trains. I visited FOOD BAZAR FOR THE FIRST AND LAST TIME, I just stopped there to pick a few items, I was impressed throughout my visit, everything was easy to find... my preference is self check out, which was quick. i thought wow.. I think I can make this store, my goto, whenever I don't feel like going all the way to WALMART. Unfortunately, I bought 2packs of bagel(plain) that was oddly on bottom shelf in the back, I remembered that because I saw every flavor but plain and asked an employee, who was stocking that section, he reached way back on bottom shelf and handed it to me. Once I got home I saw that one pack had a hole in it made by a rodent. I was so disappointed. I threw both packs away. my friend said you know they gonna say " why didn't you see that, when you checked out, or how do we know you got it here" so I just threw them way and vowed not to go to FOOD BAZZAR ever again, I'm sure they won't miss me. read more

I love this grocery store because it's so organized and neat and clean . I have a food bazaar that's 10 minutes away from me but I travel the extra 20 minutes because I trust this store. They have a good variety of choices on everything! They also have a hot food bar . I'm very impressed with the store because the price is reasonable and the value is excellent! This Supermarket FB is usually very good. But as of lately it's gone totally downhill. The fruits aren't as fresh as they used to be. The vegetables the same. I even tried ordering on their website and that was a very bad choice. I don't understand how you advertise items on a website and then send a message saying out of stock. And. When I walked into the store, the items are on the shelf. So it's either lazy and poor trained workers. Or a website that just doesn't work properly. Sad to say I won't be going to FB anymore. I'll just go to Wegmans... Everything is fresh and in stock. And their online website always processes the orders correctly and with proper stock. And also the ambiance at Wegmans is Wonderful.. This location is great. They actually have a decent-sized parking lot unlike some of the other locations. Not too far from the Williamsburg Bridge, I like coming here when I don't want to go to Queens or when I am coming back from Nana's house. Of course, I came here Thanksgiving week and the store was BUSY. There was barely a spot to be found in the parking lot and ZERO carts available. I had to wait about 5 minutes before I could track down someone that had finished shopping so that I could get their cart. As crowded as the outside might have seemed, there was still plenty of space to maneuver through the aisles. They have a grand variety of products. Store brands, name brands, bulk sizes, small sizes. The ethnic(Caribbean) aisle was small but still adequate in the selection of products that I was going to get. Once we were done shopping, I expected to wait in line for 30 - 45 minutes. The line moved swiftly and I was loading my items on the belt in about 15 minutes. I was also able to take advantage of their FREE turkey deal when I spent over $250. Been here doing grocery maybe once every few weeks. We also shop at the LIC location. This place has good selection of grocery and decent prices. The store is always busy so it get chaotic during the weekend. It is mostly well stocked. What motivated me to write this review is a the big disappointment I encountered recently. And the store rep was not helpful and gave us BS reasons. We bought a piece of chilean sea bass on Saturday 3/10/18 pm from the fish section. The fish was half frozen. We love Chilean sea bass so we got a large piece and wanted to make a nice pan fried sea bass steak for dinner on Sunday. Paid $21.23 for the fish. Did our usual shopping and went home. Put this precious baby in the fridge and can't wait for dinner the next day. Dinner time on Sunday 3/11/18, we started cooking. Took the fish out from the fridge and prepped it. The completely defrosted fish STUNK the house! Our house smelled like the Chinatown wet fish market! This fish is not our usual Chilean sea bass okay. My husband cooked it anyway, he took a bite and it tasted worse than the Icelandic fermented shark meat we recently had in Iceland! WORSE! So we took the sticker on the package and the receipt and called the store on Monday. Here's their response (dun-dun): "Sorry you have to consume the fish within 24hrs otherwise it's not our problem and there's nothing we can do about it." Me: Really?! Where on the receipt or the packaging sticker says this? The package say packed 3/10/2018 and sell by 3/13/2018. We bought it on 3/10 and tried to consume it on 3/11 - IT TURNED BAD in condition at it was properly stored. It is supposed to be good till at least 3/13. Just logically speaking. I am guessing with the so-called 24hr rule-- it would not be their problem even if we called last night because we shopped at 4pm the day before and cooked dinner at 7pm the next day?! Please tell me that's not your best argument. The fish was not edible. As simple as that. And it's not a cheap piece of fish. This store has been overcharging on a consistent basis for the past year. I was told that the price is the price which was way off of what the sale price was. I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and The NYS Department of Agriculture. Hands down the best grocery bargain I've seen in New York. Solid variety and quality of food and produce. Has a rich market's feel for a relatively low / fair price. I can typically get 1-1.5 weeks of groceries (chicken, vegetables, bread, eggs, butter) for $60, and I eat a ton. read more

I don't normally do reviews of supermarkets but this Food Bazaar seems to be a polarizing place to shop based upon the reviews. On the one hand people seem to love the location and size and selection of the Food Bazaar. On the other hand, there are negative reviews about overcharging. Both perspectives I seem to agree with. The store has a vast selection of items that you wouldn't find elsewhere in the neighborhood. But also often times they will have things that are marked as "Manager's Special or Weekly Special" where if you look under the price label or just do some comparison shopping elsewhere you will find that the discount is greatly exaggerated. Like what they say is a discount of a dollar off, is actually like 25 cents off what the price was the previous week or whatever. Unlike the 1 star reviews that are mentioning price gouging and overcharging, I do think some of this "overcharging" is simply a product of inflation. read more

This is ONE HELLUVA Supermarket. If Whole Foods moved to the ghetto, surely this would be it. Its like a mecca of Spanish grocery Stores. When you walk into the giant grocery store, there are flags hanging from every corner of countries like Spain, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, etc... and of crouse an american flag. Fair warning, this place gets CROWDED! like ridiculously crowded because they have everything here. The fruit and vegetable section is the size of the entire grocery store in Kew gardens! They have a respectable fish market. A butcher, an entire Room for all things meat! A deli counter. Aisles and Aisles of product and last but not least, a post office. Previously known as Big R - until Food Bazaar bought it. *Avoid their Food Bazaar toilet paper - it costs 9+ dollars and it is the crappiest crap paper - ever. When you pull a sheet, sometimes it grabs the underneath - on one side. Thus, making a mess of the roll. Food Bazaar of Manhattan Ave totally made it's use of space, as the aisles are cramped as hell(Big R was a spacious supermarket), and 3 meters of checkout waiting space. So when it gets busy forget about moving your cart through the main aisle. Outside, by the entrance you may encounter a huge crowd standing there. Some are trying to make a buck by carrying your bags into your car. It is a dirty supermarket, the entrance is full of litter and what was once a gray cement floor it is now black. Their carts are small, made for small aisles, but not made to hold alot of items. They don't really have any good deals at all - and many things are overpriced. Their fruits are not really fresh at all. I don't even want to try their meat. One cool thing about these markets is that - they have an entire cool room - ultra cold air blowing at you. So on a hot summer day, this is a place to visit. They have an awkward, triangle parking lot. The pavement is lopsided and uneven. Expect a lot of bumps. If you want to recycle - you have to walk to the end of the parking lot as their is no entrance convenient to enter. I love love love this store. There are complete aisles of international food that make me feel at home. Whether Dominican, Korean, or Peruvian, you name it, the food is there. I found even creamers that I could not find anywhere else. The prices are very reasonable and there are over 20 cashiers BEFORE self-service. read more

The produce section is awful and the salespeople and managers are even worse! I purchased strawberries from here. I got home to cut them for my lunch and noticed they were molded and mushy. I returned them to the store the next morning. I showed the cashier and the manager and they didn't want to give me my money back because I started cutting them. Mind you, I cut 4 of the 20 something strawberries! I explained how I noticed they were gone bad because I started cutting them and that doesn't excuse the fact they were moldy. They offered me another batch before giving my money back. The produce in general was sub par so I dare get another batch. Will never return here again! read more

I like their wild caught fishes. I might go to other supermarkets that might be close to me in the moment that I need something, but Food Bazaar is my favorite. The fruits and vegetables section is HUGE ! almost anything you can find here. Even veggies, fruits and items from other countries so this is a big plus. I like the dark Colombian Grapes, the Korean sweet potatoes and the fish department is quite good. Their wild caught fishes taste really good!, not to mention that I can cook ! ..lol If you are looking for the Pam is on aisle #2 and it might be in a display right in the middle of the aisle. Of course with all the recent "changes" in the neighborhood, the grocery store had to appeal to these "changes" and now carries healthier items, fresher foods, and more organic products. They also have a nice seating area that looks like it's supposed to resemble another, more expensive and wildly popular grocery store but o shall say no names. Anyway it's pretty nice. "Intensity.com" This place reminds me of those super huge amusement parks where you need to use the big bright and colorful fun map for the location of the super fun rides. For me, a person who is not a big fan of large crowds, the Food Bazaar can be a little intimidating (especially, when shopping the Sunday before Thanksgiving). But, it gets a little better once you get into the flow of things. One of my main issues with the place is that none of the aisles was labelled, so you essentially may have to visit every aisle to look for a particular product. In my case, that product was vanilla extract, which was located in the FRONT of the store rather than in the baking aisle. I think that I will return to purchase groceries in the future. For this adventure, I was there to purchase ingredients to bake a tres leches cake. Many of the things that I bought were of the packaged food and canned good variety, so I cannot speak of the freshness of the seafood, meats, and dairy products. I worked for this store and found it hard that the Spanish manager pulled me from patrolling the store and dragged me out in the freezing cold without heat nor shelter. She was cruel to me. I stood out there for hours till my body started breaking down. I didn't realize how much this chain is cruel to their employees. Standing in Cold and can't move from that one spot is cruel. Spanish manager was cruel to me because I was black. More and more of this is evil and evident. For the 3 blacks that was murdered in Mexico, I morn you and pray for your families. I know your dirty secret against blacks and I will not let it slide. If we're working side by side then you will respect the human order. Have a warm place for your security guards. Used to like this place. They have a good selection of ethnic foods for anyone who enjoys cooking. Their service leaves much to be desired. Purchased 2 cans of what was supposed to be lump crab meat for $22/each. Opened the can and there wasn't a lump in it nor was I convinced that it was real crabmeat. Never had an issue with anything I bought here so I made a reasonable assumption that I'd at least be able to return the unopened can. Not here. These crooks are selling some chopped cat food looking crap in a can and calling it lump crabmeat and charging customers $22 and had the nerve to treat me as though I'd not purchased the crab there and would not offer a store credit. Great neighborhood supermarket filled with local large variety of Hispanic food items besides the normal stuff. Goya, coconut soda, guayaba juice. A little cluttered with stuff overflowing into the aisles, with a little patience you'll probably find what you're looking for 2 cashier's for shoppers with 15 items or less, this is a lifesaver as neighborhood shoppers go full out which creates some long check out lines read more

I don't live in this area of BK but my friend has a car and shops here so whenever she extends an invite I am there. They have a fresh produce section, many good weekly sale items, and best of all a really large and clean seafood section. The staff in the back will weigh your seafood and also clean and debone your fish if you would like. I wish they had a Food Bazaar closer to me :o( read more

i love this store ive been coming here for years. it has a great selection and very good prices and sales always well stocked. the other day i purchased some pre sliced deli meats and when I took them home I served them to my family for lunch and they were un editable. I returned them the next day and complained about the terrible taste to find out that they had just changed brands and that's why they tasted the way that they did. It is very deceiving that they aren't marked properly. that is the last time I will buy the pre sliced cold cuts at Food Bazaar. read more
