I have been going to FC ever since I moved to Elizabethton from Texas. Almost all the employees have bent over backwards to accommodate my needs. I needed a special Margarita mix in large quantities. I met Kim there who told me she would call me when she got some in. Sure enough, she stood by her word. I never got service like that in Texas. Placed an order for a small, square birthday cake two days ahead of time on April 1st. On April 3rd I was in a hurry and didn't examine the cake closely in its container before leaving the bakery. The decorations on top were pretty but when I took the cake out of the container, it appeared to be sliding off the base it sat on. It wasn't. The cake was lopsided...by a lot. Almost everyone (not me) laughed. Anyone ordering a cake from the Elizabethton Food City store be warned: Don't be the person who brings an expensive lopsided joke of a cake to the party. This location is always clean. They seem to have a slightly higher rate for certain things than the JC or Kingsport locations. Not quite sure as to the why. Great thing about this location is that the customer service is the best and always consistent. I love coming here to shop because ALL employees are soooo nice and they are consistent in assisting you. This store is always well stocked as well. Pretty good for what I need. Meat is always why I shop at Food City. The great customer service is why I always go back. read more

Unfortunately I live super close to Food City & When I'm in the middle of cooking & realize I'm out of something its convenient to run in & get it here. But it's gonna cost me almost double. I use to love FC when we first bought our home. They were WAY more reasonable then Ingles & way friendlier. However, the prices keep increasing ever few months to the point they are just as bad as Ingles. And the customer service isn't that great or friendly either. Sadly it's the older ones that work there that are the snottiest. FC is just plain GREED & taking advantage of people!! Their prices are ridiculous now & it has zero to do with inflation b/c Walmart is way cheaper & I have noticed Walmarts prices are dropping while FC Greedily keeps raising prices. Taco shells that I love cost OVER $5 a box at FC & Walmart I paid $3!! Chips @ Walmart $2.76 & Food City $4.99!! I don't know WHO can afford the meat there. I have a couple of HUGE issues with them. One being the stupidity & GREED again of all the self check out registers they just installed. Paying double & even triple price on some items & forced to use self checkout at night when I shop cause nothing else is open & during the day only a few registers!! Most people DO NOT wanna ring their groceries up. One it's NOT their jobs!! Two, who wants to be "watched" like you're gonna steal something?! And then when installing all the new self check out registers they are too greedy to install the hand scanners to make it easier for guest with heavy, bulky items. I struggle with water, drinks, every time I go.. I mean trying to ring up a case of water at a scanner it's obviously very ridiculous & I get pissed off every time I have to do it. Especially since I'm not even suppose to be lifting items b/c of a medical issue. I can imagine some elderly people really struggle with this!! Another example that customers convenient isn't cared about!! Don't even get me started on their RIDICULOUS, stupid "sales" they have... I get so mad when I go to get "sale" items. EXAMPLE this week, they had their Little Debbie cakes on "sale" but they only put certain ones on "sale".. even if they're the same price. So you have to take time to read the tags & find which ones are on "sale". Who in the world does this??? Especially, being the SAME price!! This is by far one of the dumbest, air brained, ridiculous things I've ever seen in a grocery store. I hear others complain about every time I'm in searching for varieties of those on "sale".. it's should be ALL of them at that price level. Few weeks ago I go to buy the juice that was on "sale" & get up to the register only to realize Grape wasn't one on "sale" even though it's the SAME price originally as the others. I'm guessing the most "popular" flavors are the ones they aren't putting on sale. Whatever Moron thought of this either is so greedy there's no help for them or they just aren't the smartest person. I go for greed based on all the factors. Then Gosh forbid you have to go in the last hour they are open. Which due to my job, keeping my grand children, and busy life seems to be the time left for me in a day but from about 10:15pm & on ALL you hear LOUDLY every few minutes is "FOOD CITY WILL BE CLOSING IN 45 MINUTES....FOOD CITY WILL BE CLOSING IN 40 MINUTES...FOOD CITY WILL BE CLOSING IN 38 MINUTES!!" (You know the rest about being final items to checkout blah, blah!!) It's so loud & obnoxious. And it's always the one manger blocking off one side of the doors so you can't go out or come in the far side even if you parked that side. He has to stand at the door making People feel awkward " You have 5 minutes before we close".. I get they close but it's obnoxious with the steps they take. I mean what you might have to stay a minute or 2 past closing?! I went from spending over $1000 a month here to my last choice (besides Ingles. They would be my very last choice) & I don't spend any where near that now... And everyone I talk to feels the same way I do .. it's sad that we don't have anymore competition in Elizabethton. We need a Kroger, Aldi, to get Food City to wake up and STOP being so Greedy!!! read more

Working there is great the coworkers are very helpful..The front end manger are great except for a few they don't want to hear what you have to say..Management don't know how to keep good employees when there is a problem so then they quit plus low pay ... read more

Apparently, living in the northeast has completely turned me into a spoiled princess. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED Tennesse... I could see myself having my morning coffee on the porch listening to the lowing of cattle and watching the mists burning off the verdant Smoky Mountains as the sun rises. The people are seriously friendly and housing is cheap. I really liked it. I even looked at real estate and job postings. But... one trip to the grocery store convinced me I could NEVER live in Tennessee. All I wanted was fresh bagels. FRESH. BAGELS. Huh? Nonononoooo not Thomas' in a bag... (they're ok in a pinch) but I want a bagel with some heft, ya know? NO DICE. Exotic produce. Forget it. Falafel mix? HA! Whole grain breads? Nuh-uh. No, there is no way in hell I could live being deprived of the diversity of northeastern restaurants and grocery stores. Even if I only go to the Asian or Mexican or Russian grocery store once or twice a year, I NEED to know that it's there, just within my reach. Food City was perfectly respectable. Clean, friendly staff, a little bit of everything. Hell, they even had beer (YAY! that's one thing I HATE about Jersey, no beer at the grocer.) But by my standards, Food City fell WAY below my expectations. They didn't even have Strawberry-Banana Juicy Juice. Nope, just grape, apple, orange. Sorry kids, but that's just too much of a white-bread world for me. read more

Put the 3 for12 coke mellow yellow all together on shelf next to floor and a sticker Nuneaton that read e for 12 then tried to charge me 5 each, supposed to be family owned but food city has gotten so greedy, the that's smart brand fast nasty,the mac and cheese iss slimy and brand cost twice as much. All you can smell is rotting fish and meat, the milk jugs are elderly and child proof which is a shame. They have more beer and wine than anything, putting up from where they used to keep my little one's drinks.potatoes are always rotten, you have to buy all name brand or get something nasty or spoiled, the trying to cheat me today and I had tell them 3 times before they would check was last straw, my family friends and I plan on just shopping at Wal-Mart from now on.every time you see someone in parking o parking lot they are mad about something food city has done? I went in for a few things took my basket to the self check out and proceeded to check out and I put my bags back in the basket and the old lady out the register stopped me and made me take out all my bags out of the basket and leave it with her she was so rude!!I guess I gathered that she thought I was stealing the basket LMAO! I like this store but if I go back me & that lady is going to have a talk I should of not listen to her but I did.I didn't want to be mean but get thinking about it makes me very mad! read more

Every other grocery store around has a seafood department. Why does this particular store, when you walk through the doors, does the seafood smell just about knock you down. It's enough to make you want to turn around and go somewhere else. I usually only go here for the deserts. The deserts are far better than Ingles. but this store needs a facelift.
