The rotisserie chicken was raw!! Looks raw, smells raw and it's absolutely not edible!! I had a hard time cutting it, but still offered it to my children which spit it right out saying it tasted like rubber!! Most food items I shopped were advertised as on sale, but at the checkout counter the discounts were not applied. The employee I asked about this issue was very rude and offensive and did not help at all. I had to go back through the isles and take pictures of the discounted prices so that same employee could apply the discount to my receipt. Not planning on shopping there ever again!! I really don't understand where all the customer service went in the world today. When going to a grocery store we shouldn't as customers have to ring our purchases up while employees stand and watch. One register open with a line. While employees stand around and just watch it happpening or outside smoking(the manager). There is always something wrong with self check out. It's never a smooth transaction. I worked at grocery stores for 15 yrs and customer service is out the window these days. Your supposed to do whatever you can to get customers in and out. And then to get your food home and it's moldy, that just topped it off. I can't be the only person that hates the self checkout process. Its just sad. read more

I grew up with Food Lion stores in central Virginia, so I know people are not as rude as the young man who was checking out our groceries for us tonight. First off, there was almost no one in the store as it was 9pm. I get that as the night winds down that you just want to go home but that's no excuse for rude, unprofessional or lazy customer service. The store was still going to be open for 2 hours. We were separating groceries from our cart (And it was a small cart not one of the big ones). I was moving as fast as I could and turned to ask the other person with us if he was going to cover the rest and I would pay for what was on the conveyor belt. The clerk said to me, "Can you hurry up there's someone behind you." I thought he was talking about my friend. I said, "He's with us." Then he said to me, "No, the person behind him." Mind you, the person behind my friend was a Food Lion Employee. So, basically this clerk was being rude and crappy to us because a fellow employee was going to have to wait a few minutes to buy his drink. Horrible customer service and an employee that shouldn't be in the service industry if this is how you talk to customers. The store was clean and well stocked. We found everything we were looking for. Just sad that our experience was marred at the end with the checker. Maybe Dean should find another job where he is less snippy and doesn't have to deal with people. read more

Visited Food Lion in Fenwick/Selbyville (Route 54) Friday morning March 20 around 8am. When I got there, produce shelves were 80% empty and meat shelves about 95% empty. However, their staff was unpacking many pallets of recently arrived product. The men in produce dept kept asking me "what do you need?" And I told them no problem that I'd stop back. But they insisted on serving me immediately. They found lettuce, onions, cabbage and were SO happy to meet my needs with a smile. How delightful. The women in meat department were also working hard to bring out pork, beef, chicken (not as friendly as the produce guys, but they were under a lot of stress, so no complaints here). This is a great store, clean, well stocked with friendly attentive staff. The produce department is the very best in the area, and the meat department is excellent as well. Deli is fresh and fast and courteous. Well managed, well run, I am happy to call this my Food Lion. I did some curbside pickup since the pandemic and that went well too - It is easier and easier each time you order, and YOU get better too - like how many lbs is 6 Bananas. (You do have the option to write in six.). The groceries were well packed in paper bags, not too heavy and everything was correct. I love my Food Lion. read more

While traveling to beach towns, I usually like to do my grocery shopping at Food Lion. This is not a negative review for the quality of the grocery store, rather poor customer service that I received. My mother & I bought 2 packs of muffins for our family, that had a sign in front of them that said $2.99 each for bonus card users. When we arrived in line, we asked if the discount is only applied to card users. The cashier, who's name was June, replied, "Yes." Usually while traveling, grocery stores apply a courtesy discount for those who don't have bonus cards. My mother asked, "Do you have a courtesy discount?" June simply replied, "Yes." When she scanned all of our items, we saw that the discount of $2.99 each was not applied. When we asked, she said "Well $3.99 is what they scanned for." When we said that the sign said otherwise, she reluctantly told us to hold on while she waited for another associate to help her. She then proceeded to take the scanner back to the section herself. When she returned, she said nothing. My mother asked if it worked or if we were going to receive the discount. She abruptly responded, "Yes." She did not apologize for her rude attitude about the whole situation at all. It is already uncomfortable to have to ask or question something as a customer, but to have an associate be rude to you about the matter is worse. We apologized to the customers behind us while she was away scanning the item (because we felt responsible for holding up the line), but they responded that they do this too when trying to apply a discount and said, "And it's worse & uncomfortable when they almost accuse you of lying." I felt it necessary to post this negative review of not the grocery store itself, but the poor customer service that we received. June should probably check her attitude at the door the next time she comes into work. read more
