I have been going to this store for almost my entire life. If you live up country you know what I mean. It is one of few stores left in makawao or Pukalani that has decent prices. It saves you from having to go downtown. They have pretty good poke and the poke bowls are affordable. They also have a pretty good offering as far as the deli and hot food go. I feel like this location is better than most of the other Foodland's on the island. I can say for sure that the Kailua pig Friday special is better from this Foodland than the other. I have tried it from almost all of them and it tastes better and they give you decent portions. Plus the ladies are a lot friendlier than Kahului and Lahaina. Only the Kihei location is as friendly. I feel like they have more offering in the meat department. My only complaint is that they closed the pharmacy and now I have to go to Longs for my prescriptions. They just redid the store interior recently and they did a good job with it. Definitely looks newer in the store overall it is nice to have a decent store upcountry. read more

I've been to this Upcountry Foodland numerous times over the years when I lived on Maui and whenever I go back 2-3 times a year to visit my 'ohana. I laugh when people say Kahului or town is "too far". Huh? It's a mere 12 to 15 minute drive. That's nothing especially if you've lived on the Mainland for more than a decade and a half. What? Oh no! Time to think about moving back home. The workers for the most part are not friendly. At all. They barely crack a smile. My husband always goes and buys a pound or two of poke nearly every day when we're there. That's his thing since the "poke bars" here are not "authentic" poke. It's more like a salad bowl with a side of poke. This past visit, we went there one time and we were done. They moved the poke station closer to the produce section, Starbucks, etc. However, I swear the ahi was spoiled. It was so gross. The tita (yep, I said it) was hella rude and she probably gave me a few days old poke. Seriously. I wasn't paying attention since their poke has always been okay in the past. It was disgusting and we threw it out. We were rushing to drive to Lahaina so we opened it in the car to eat it. We tossed it at Costco when my hubz gassed up since there was no way we were going to hold on to the poke and have it sit in the car for hours to show them how gross it was. My husband got scolded (embarrassed and lectured according to hubz) by a large male cashier in August when he bought a few items. Many times, I have told my husband to either enter my phone number or my mom's phone number (priority) so they can get their Maika'i points and he can get the slight discount. That employee told him he's not allowed to enter my or my mom's phone number so instead of his total being $20, it was nearly $30. He was buying a couple of cleaning items for my mom too. Oh heck no. I immediately called the store and grabbed the car keys and my mom and I went straight to CS. I was there within 2 minutes and on the phone as I approached the CS desk. The manager was apologetic (my uncle worked there as store manager for many years back in the day; but, I didn't even bring that up and probably never will in the store). Actually, my mom stood on the side as I marched my 'okole straight to their CS/manager area. Lol. Yes, Foodland is very convenient for Upcountry peeps. However, so is Longs and Puk Sup. Why did i delete this review... ugh. I love coming to foodland is near my job so it's easy and convenient. Huge parking lot but done stalls are tight and usually packed in front of the store. If you park facing the pool be careful of the wagons some people don't give a rip of it hitting your car. Trust me it happened to me a huge dent on my bumper. Well enough about that. Foodland has produce, fresh meat, poke, sushi, dessert and a pharmacy and so much more. Prices are a little bit higher here then some grocery stores. They have a maikai card which you can save even more and they are partners with Hawaiian airlines so every time you spend you can earn miles. Perfect for me. For every 250 points you earn you can get a makai certificate which you can use for miles or save 5%or product of the week. Bring in a reusable bag and you can earn 3 miles or save 5 cents. Cashiers and the rest of the staff are always nice. On fridays and Saturdays this foodland usually sells steak and chicken plates. Perfect for a plate lunch 9.99 for steak rice and a green salad. read more

This Foodland is located at the Pukalani Terrace Center, which is one of the last (and best) stops on your way up to Haleakala National Park to catch the sunrise/ sunset. My husband and I came by this Foodland on a Sunday afternoon, a little before 4 pm. We headed towards the back of the store, to the seafood section for the poke. The employee helping us with our poke bowl was not very friendly and didn't seem to listen to us as we had to remind her what we wanted in our poke bowls. Anyways, this is what we ended up purchasing on this visit: 2 Choice Poke Bowl- Ahi Poke & Limu Poke, $9.99 prior to tax- I picked my bowl to have brown rice and 2 choices of non spicy poke. Both choices of poke was fresh tasting and the brown rice was perfectly cooked. A pretty large portion that can feed 2 people. 2 Choice Poke Bowl- Spicy Ahi Poke & Shrimp Kim Chee Poke. Each $9.99 prior to tax- My husband also picked brown rice for his bowl. Because both of his choices were spicy, I did not eat any (I don't eat spicy foods), but my husband enjoyed it. Since the portion size of this poke bowl is rather large, my husband saved the leftovers for another day. Spam Musubi, $2.19 prior to tax- Had to pick up one spam musubi to share with my husband as we drive up to Haleakala National Park to see the sunset at the Haleakala summit. This spam musubi was delicious and also unique from all the other markets (especially the other Foodlands) that we had been to on the island, as the rice had furikake seasoning (love adding to my rice). -------------------------------- (Total= $22.89, after tax) When I had asked to use the restroom, the employee at the register told me to head to restroom, next to Farmacy Health Bar. She gave me the restroom codes (ladies- 234. Gentlemen- 345. Please note that these codes are also written in black permanent marker in case you forget). However, I do not know if there is a restroom in this market for customers to use because I had read from another previous Yelper's review that her boyfriend was able to use the restroom in this market. But anyways, overall, we enjoyed our food purchase and would stop by here again (especially for the furikaka seasoned rice in the spam musubi). read more

We have no complaints with the grocery store but the parking lot is always a challenge. Seems like people just forget common sense and logical parking and driving skills. We went on Christmas Eve and it wasn't so bad in the store. The deli has a good supply of hot and cold items and plenty of desserts in the bakery. The 8 items or less had a long line but it went fairly quick despite the person in front of me that must have forgot 12 is more than 8 . We just kept the Christmas spirit and let them finalize their transaction. I love that the Starbucks is attached for a tasty treat too!! read more

Despite being an older location, this 24-hour store still holds their own, in terms of size and offerings. When they opened back in the 80's at the Pukalani Terrace Center, they were the largest Foodland in the state per square footage. At the time, Safeway was expanding on the rock, so Foodland went large to take control of the growing Upcountry population. The most recent renovation added a Starbucks counter inside. The aisles are wide and well-stocked. Other highlights are an in-house American Savings Bank, pharmacy, floral department, a deli that serves cold and hot foods including sub sandwiches, fried chicken, potato wedges, BBQ ribs, and sushi, a seafood counter (the pokē selections aren't as plentiful as Oki's in the Kahului location,) a bakery, olive bar, and Icee machine. Parking is plentiful and service is friendly. As is common knowledge of Foodland stores, they have a larger selection of Asian and local groceries than competitors. And, their Maika'i rewards program can't be beat, offering compensation of 5% off your bill, free/discounted groceries, or 200 Hawaiian Air Miles. read more

Just tried to order a cake from Foodland Pukalani for a birthday - ordered a cake off of the pictures on their website just to be told 2x that they don't have the colors to prepare the cake - then I was told I need to come down in person to tell her exactly what I want and what they have available and also because I have to prepay the order which I had no problem doing over the phone - but again - you need to come in in person. Feels weird giving 5 stars to a grocery store, but this Foodland gets a solid 5 stars for the Spam musubi and coffee bean selection. We came upon this market by accident but man am I glad we decided to peep in. The musubis here were probably the best I've had because of the rice. It was so well seasoned and not just your plain average white rice. It had black sesame seeds inside that REALLY added a great kick of flavor and texture. So sad I didn't buy more to bring home with me :( We stopped by a Foodland at a different location and they did NOT have this kind of rice! So sad! Aloha. I'm saddened to write this review. I understand we are post Covid but a $3.99 to $10.99 increase for a soggy pie that sits out is over the top. Prices have gone way up. The Makai Rewards Program has changed away from coupons and doesn't work. To more than double the price and then offer 5 or 10% off is bad practice. In the past year I bought a fruit plate that was dry for a family event and I was told by everyone at the event who shared their Foodland Pukalani Stories why I should never shop at Pukalani Foodland for that reason. Many times the cooked items upfront on the table for outings have been spoiled. The affordable Bread racks at the door are no longer there making bread $6 and up. Everything is much higher. I mention to the store manager at the register no one else is charging for paper bags. He flat out said if you don't like it shop somewhere else. I can live with the higher prices. Dry and limited produce and spoiled noodle plates. The discontinuation of a reward program that worked great. But the clear disrespect tor clients from the Manager is disappointing. The Foodland Lahaina, Kahului and Kihei are all Fantastic. Pukalani Foodland should be avoided at all costs. Pukalani Superette is Fantastic and Loves their customers. Safeway CostCo and Wholefoods have Great Produce, Pricing and Selection and all value their clients. AVOID PUKALANI FOODLAND AT ALL COST. Customers and Team Members are not happy there. read more

The largest supermarket upcountry, with a chaotic parking lot that seems like the stalls are extra narrow. They will mark down the leftover deli items like Mac salad, watercress salad, etc towards the end of the evening, but that being said, be prepared to pay more here than any other Foodland I've been in. Just last week I seen a large pkg of butter for $15. I'm not kidding. They recently installed new flooring, which is pale grey, therefore showing dirt, and is already badly scuffed. This Foodland usually has the most cashiers working at one time, especially the busy times like Saturday afternoons, beginning of the months, and evenings. Much better than Safeway, where you're lucky if even two humans are posing as cashiers. Their produce is expensive, for claiming to be so "local", why does that mean it costs so much more? Since the store recently underwent its makeover, I've seen waaay more costly rich-hippie kine items and less local items. That's great, good for them if that's the kind of direction they think their store needs to go, but I only shop there when I absolutely have to, and don't want to drive downhill to not have to spend $15 on butter. And yes I believe it was mentioned in a previous review: CHECK THE EXP/SELL BY DATES on all foodland's perishable items. They will sneak the close- or expired dates items in the front and hope that you aren't noticing the $7 container of yogurt (although basically soured milk anyways) is a week past its shelf-life date. And always make sure the cashier rings up your loose vegetables and greens properly. I was twice charged an arm and a leg for "organic baby romaine" lettuce when I'd really purchased butter lettuce (half the price!) The store restroom is at the top of the little stairs on the right when you first walk in (from the laundromat side, not the Starbucks side). I wouldn't recommend using it; esp without permission. It's basically for employees only. I seen this mysterious toilet mentioned in other reviews so that's the truth about the restroom. The bakery section is basically over-sugared or extra stale. Avoid. Seafood dept is nicely stocked, and if you don't already know, foodland's edamame/soybeans with the magical sauce is UNREAL! Get a pound of edamame & have them weigh it for you . Then ask for a few spoonfuls of extra sauce dumped on top (for bumbai, can eat um over rice, etc). Happy shopping! read more
