If you are looking for a memory card, they do not have them here. But they were super friendly to me and the store was very clean. They had good deals on fruit at the front of the store. Overall not bad at all

This is a very nice and huge Safeway, even in Los Angeles terms. They had plenty of food and drinks and accessories you might need on your vacation. It seems more tourists frequent this grocery store, as Islanders seem to go to Foodland along Kihei Road. My choice is Safeway, as I want some familiarity with the stores I normally frequent.

Deli case of seaweed salad, shrimp, squid

We were staying in condos in Kihei and needed provisions. Prices are a bit more expensive such as waters, soda, beer, produce, proteins than Foodland (half a mile away), less local bakery and deli items than Foodland. Fair variety of poke (but imported from California), some local - look at their signage!! Deli local specialties from seaweed salad, shrimp, seasoned squid (look at labels a lot of the ahi poke has been previously frozen and not fresh).

I have a friend that recently moved to this side of the island. So we've been shopping here about once a week. It's been fun watching the remodel come together. Plus the guys working are super helpful when it comes to hunting down items. As for my favorite part about shopping here is all the beautiful flowers when you first walk in. Plus ordering either a hot or cold matcha from Starbucks. Pro tip: download the Safeway app to add on coupons & to earn rewards for doing your grocery shopping. Xoxo, ChelsieFletcher

Probably the best Safeway I saw while in Hawaii, but let's be honest, the real reason this gets five stars is that it has a POKE BAR.

I cannot tell you how top tier this place is. My group of 9 visited Island Gourmet 3 times in our 3…read moredays here in Maui. In the back, you will find a food court with endless options, whether you grab what is already laid out or order fresh off the menu. I had the California roll twice, and the rice was so soft with a perfect rice-to-filling ratio, easily the best California roll I have ever had. I also tried the BBQ flatbread, which was pretty good. Ordering off the menu was also a great option. I got the fried rice and galbi, which came with sides and were all delicious. One thing my friend could not stop talking about was the poke, which was slightly on the spicier side but fresh, soft, and very tasty. This place has it all, and you really cannot go wrong. It might be a bit more on the expensive side depending on what you get, but it is pretty in line with the rest of Hawaii's pricing. Do yourself a favor and check it out. You can also grab groceries and snacks while you are there.

The shop sells mostly liquor, but upon entering and making a left turn, you will encounter the poke station. I grabbed a 1/4 pound of the spicy ahi and then bought a bag of the Maui onion chips to go along with it. The poke is $26 per pound and you can get it in 1/4,1/2, pound serving sizes, which is quite nice. They also had bowls that you could get that came with rice, but I really wanted to try the poke with the onion chips. The fish is really fresh here and I was super happy to find The person working at the counter was very nice and patient as we were deciding what we wanted to get. I highly recommend stopping by here for poke. While you're at it, you can also go grab some Maui pie after eating here.

This review is for the poke experience and service we had back in April 2026…read more I have been super excited to try Tamura's again since I haven't been back in 5 years and had a great experience with their poke last time. I especially remember their sunset poke and how good it was, so I knew I had to try it again when I came back. My husband and I arrive a little past noon and waited a little behind a group of young adults. It took a while since it was only 1 person assisting 4 people, until another man arrived to help us. I ordered the sunset poke, and my husband got the shoyu yellowtail. After receiving our fish, we lined up behind the group earlier to pay. As they were leaving, I noticed they were given sets of forks and chopsticks from the cashier. When it was our turn to pay, the cashier didn't say anything, and we had to ask for a fork to eat the poke (which we didn't mind asking). But she gave us attitude, turned around to grab the utensil and handed it to us without saying a word. We waited a little since we wanted to make sure the payment was completed, but she just stared at us and finally said "you're good" when we stood there awkwardly. When we got to the car, we realized the forks she gave were broken and missing some tines. My sunset poke was a little underwhelming for mine. Maybe it was the scoop I got, but the fish had so much tough muscle fibers that I actually had to spit some out since it was so hard to bite through. The sauce was so good though, so it was a bit disappointing from the past memory I had with how buttery the fish was. My husband's shoyu yellowtail was delicious though. It melted in the mouth and really emphasized the sweetness and freshness of the fish. I actually ate it with the sunset sauce, and it paired so well with it too. Overall, the poke is still good and maybe I got a bad scoop, but Tamura's was a lot better in my memories. I would still come back next time I visit but hope for a better experience, since they do have delicious sauce and fish.
