Came here to do some grocery shopping and the meat doesn't look as fresh which is concerning. During check out the lady that was at the register was rude to every customer. We get that you turned off your light and closed your lane but there's no need to answer to customers rudely and yell saying that your lane is closed. It was 20:20 13th December 2024. I was waiting in line to pay my groceries all of a sudden I heard a rip sound in my back, my North Face Jacket got caught in a sharp claw thing attached to the conveyor belt table and damaged my Jacket really bad. I told the cashier about it and she doesn't seem to care about what happened, she told me to tell the Supervisor which I did, same thing the guy doesn't care either. I asked the cashier the name of the Supervisor she told me, why don't you ask him! The Cashier told me that maybe my jacket was damaged somewhere else, I felt really bad, I was just asking at least fix that sharp thing because someone might get hurt on that sharp claw thing. Both 2 cashiers at noon on 4/24/24 were very rude to a tiny Asian, me. It happened at the Union City store. When I went back to buy 1 item after I had finished shopping there, I was sent to join another line at my turn. Then the next cashier got mad with my complaints and refused to serve me by closing her cash register, then she left her register. This place is a crap shoot. I always go on a weekday around noon to avoid the crowd. However, sometimes they will only have one or two people working the register. The wait can easily be 20 minutes. If you only have a couple of items, too bad. There are no self check outs. I keep coming because they have the best prices for steaks and ribs. Not the best price on sodas however. read more

Last month I saw a woman cashier at Foodmaxx in Union City, CA, bullying a customer, calling him by names. The scene was more like a racial hatred. The cashier looked Indian with a red dot on the mid forehead and talked rather rude to him, loudly calling him "Asshole". I was thrilled by the wild behavior of the cashier. This thing can only happen at Foodmaxx!!! I have never seen a cashier so rude. Something must be very wrong with Foodmaxx's employee management. Even if they were arguing over some issue, a cashier must NEVER swear at the customer. CUSTOMERS ARE ALWAYS RIGHT!!! Folks, if you shop at Foodmaxx in Union City, CA, you had better check out at other register, and avoid that rude cashier, so you don't become the next "Asshole". I'm in Fremont a lot lately, so this Food Maxx has come in handy when I need to get some grub for the family. It's close to 880, easy to get to, and its prices are the same as other Food Maxxes that I've been to. Not fancy or trendy at all; hey, the street address is Industrial Blvd, and that says it all. So far, so good. I did find the layout a little different from the others. Most have the stand-up freezers where you can get frozen food, and this does not. As a result, it doesn't have as large a selection as the others. The produce looks fresh, though. Deli? Fuggetaboutit. This is a low-price joint. Basically, Food Maxx is a basic grocery store big enough to sell lots of the basics you'll need. read more

This foodmaxx is a hit or miss and that's mostly because there is only ever 1 or 2 registers open with more than 10 people in each line. If you want a quick grocery trip, this is for sure not the store to come to. read more

Not my favorite supermarket but if nearby good values to be had. Low price is the highlight and good store hours are appreciated. Annoying store layout and things are a bit messy here and there but the service is friendly. Usually I'm next door at Home Depot and my visit to this supermarket was one of convenience. I suppose it compares best to Smart and Final. Both stores are price focused and neither have club discounts tracked with a phone number. The store layout is something I really dislike. It seems unique to Food Maxx to have this forced perimeter walk - I've never seen this at any other supermarket and I really don't like it. For one thing it makes for difficult evacuation in case of an emergency... And this place is built very close to the Hayward fault. (Minus 2 stars). Parking lot is a bit messy but the people are friendly and service fast. I usually shop late at night and perhaps this is a factor in my pleasant experience. read more

So I want preface by saying that this review is not directed against FoodMaxxc itself but for the specific cake made by Signature Kitchens. The cake in itself was pretty damn tasty but that isn't the point. They are advertising this cake as a Boston cream cake. The cake looks like it is filled with half an inch of Boston cream. But when you cut into the cake, there is barely a sliver of Boston cream on the edge of the cake. If I wanted a sponge cake then I would have bought a sponge cake. read more

Employees are nice and there's usually a good selection however they're severely understaffed for the traffic they get. Lines are regularly huge with maybe 3 registers open at max (usually 1-2). What's the point of having multiple cashier booths if you leave them unoccupied!? Instead, get prepared to wait half an hour on average... Next to that, their pricing labels are terrible. Stuff stocked with the wrong label on it and is seemingly never corrected. Hell, they put "not available" stickers over some prices despite there literally being stock on the shelf, so now you can't see the price at all... Poorly managed. read more

Took the FoodMaxx Customer Satisfaction Survey recently and left comments regarding how the store can improve. Impressed that the manager of the store contacted me back about my experience and told me that they are addressing each of my concerns. She went ahead and addressed each of my concerns. Firstly with the shopping carts, she stated that the company as a whole has approved the usage of GateKeeper Systems for there shopping carts, to prevent people from stealing them off store property. They are just waiting on the property manager's approval so that they can install the lines throughout the lot. Secondly, they don't currently have hand baskets but she stated she will bring it up to her boss (upper management) and see if she can get hand baskets brought back to Food Maxx. Thirdly, she stated that I am right and I shouldn't have to be waiting in long lines when shopping here. She said she will be implementing more registers open and they are working on having monthly cashier meetings to make sure there is more than 1-2 lines open. If you like FoodMaxx and you want to Travel to Union City this is way better then the one in Hayward. Is is in the same lot as Home Depot it's a bit more of a Drive for me. But It has less homeless people outside and way less human waste. So this place is way better then Hayward location. It still suffers the same problem as not staffing enough people as cashiers. This tends to be most grocery stores issue. It's just hard to know how busy you are going to be. It makes sense to staff less people then having way to many. But as far as location goes it's fine; tons of parking. The section is fine and the store tends to be stocked with foods of you choice and priced right. The store layout is pretty stupid tho, they have you go in one way and you have to go around the store or cut across the check out stand. It makes it for getting in and out fast a nightmare unless you go around everything. Just know if you shop at any foodmax there will be lines. I'll keep coming back if I have the extra time for the lines but I guess that's the price to pay when you have good deals. read more

Food Maxx is perfect for boxed groceries that you know will be the same quality here vs any other place (Digiorno pizzas or cereal boxes, etc). Items like this are usually priced better here than other grocery stores (EXCEPT I did notice the Gerber baby food is about 20 cents more expensive than at Target which I found interesting). Food Maxx has great prices and are constantly making changes to their pricing, which can sometimes be frustrating when you buy something and the next time you come it's cheaper... But I do go here every so often to buy boxed items like I'm describing. Their produce on the other hand, can be less consistent. I'd say about 50% of the time there is absolutely nothing wrong with their produce. I buy tons of stuff for making salad and other dishes and am happy with my purchases. The other times however, they're either totally empty and have almost nothing left or the stuff they do have is not very good quality. You kinda can't blame them for being sold out, because I'm sure that means they're getting great business! And also that people are able to take advantage of their great deals. But it definitely can be a little disappointing if you're trying to run over there for a quick pick up. The other thing that can be quite a bummer here is the long lines to check out. They are usually low on staff during the various shifts and it shows from the lack of open tellers. I pretty much can always assume I'll be waiting in line for at least 10 minutes when I am going to Food Maxx. They have a 10 items line, but it's usually twice as long as the other lines! It's hard to tell what is faster. I did have a really great interaction with a young African American male who was the manager during that shift (I believe). He was really thorough and fast. He was also very polite and professional. Unfortunately, I didn't get his name. I had another good experience with Jenny, who works the check outs. She has helped me in a number of visits. Always very nice and helpful as well. There are more lackluster workers there that don't seem to notice the lines are super backed up, and that can get very frustrating! This place is cheap for groceries, but be REALLY careful about your selection. I was about to buy turkey deli slices and noticed that they still had Santa Clause on the label. Let's just say it was expired. But I can't poo poo this place. They have an awesome jingle... "FoodMaxx. Take it to the max. Maximizing shopping power. FoodMaxx." They do have great deals, it's a matter of how you utilize this place. I come here when I can't go to Trader Joe's or if I just need something cheaper or my Cool Whip Free...it's the only place where I can find it. Better than Ice Cream I tell you! read more

Cheap prices but bad customer service. Went sometime in December and my friend pushed the cart and accidentally hit the plastic barrier in between checkout aisles. My friend apologized repeatedly but the lady at cashier was pissed off and started muttering under her breath. It didn't hit her, break, or cause harm to anybody. I reiterated it was just an accident because there was no need to make it bigger than what it was. I felt uncomfortable checking out at that point and just wanted to get out of there. No need to make anybody feel bad because of an accident. We're all human. The cashier that was actually ringing us up said it's happened before and I'm wondering if everybody endured the same reaction we did. If it's happened before maybe the other lady should take it up with management instead of out on the customers. I'd rather take the drive to Newark's location. No stinking scanners for checkout. The checker told me it would be at least 2 years before they would be installed. They would have to remodel first. In the meantime, over half the registers are silent and the line is ridiculously long. They finally opened another register after 20 minutes. And another after another 5 minutes.
