I was Asian market hopping and I stumbled across the Pig Bun at Maria Grocery. A local restaurant offered the exact item at high cost. If you don't want to pay the restaurant prices, then you can stop by here. I didn't personally find anything to buy here so service was irrelevant but the ambiance was quiet. It was a plus to have free parking. Overall, I don't prefer this place but if you're in search of the bun, you'll find it here.

Cheese buldak ramen with chicken pot stickers

Back when the pandemic happened I watched a lot of mukbangs, I'm talking ramen on ramen on ramen! I seen soooo many buldak noodle videos, etc and I googled where I could find them in my area and DING DING DING it's down the street! I love how it's never crowded when I go. The only issue I have is whenever I go, they don't have the carbonara noodles stocked. I have to get really lucky to even purchase them. Staff is friendly and honestly I just love how you can find everything you need in just one store. The frozen potstickers come in so many different fillings! there's so many delicious snacks that my daughter and I enjoy!Whenever I go here I just love the vibe and I'm immediately in a good mood cause I know im going to walk out with some delicious ramen! they also play some trendy music which is a mood.

One of the older bigger Asian markets in the area. Same model as a 99 Ranch. And since it is around the 20 or so year old mark, it is grimier than new models of Asian markets. But when I do come here, I'm not really lingering around, I'm in and out. I mostly come for Asian snacks like seaweed wrapped rice crackers or garlic corn nuts. Of course, I also restock my Asian pantry as needed, as I can almost find any of that here, whether Chinese, Japanese, Filipino or Vietnamese. It's a good resource to have. For meats, I'll mostly gravitate towards their seafood. Not a polished marketed look at all, but rather very old world. So you kinda have to know what you're getting into. I can usually find a nice find here and usually at a better price than 99 Ranch. Their produce department has really cheap prices. But in those cheap prices there are a lot of produce either in iffy shape or on it's last legs. So you really have to scan and pick through stuff. The good is if you pick the right stuff, it'll be prime and ready to eat as soon as you get home. Don't want a hard/pink tomato, easily solved here. But you have to be willing to use it within a few days, can't hang on to it for a week or so. I have a system for this place, so it works for me. So for a convenience stop because it is close to home, this place gets utilized fairly often. When it comes to groceries, it doesn't have to be pretty for me to warrant its usefulness. #getingetout

Ok I'll update review- variable produce quality & really old carts & cranky service remains problematic, But I'm really happy I can find obscure things I love at good prices here- Frozen fish tofu, & all kinds of stuff u can just throw into air fryer. passion fruit purée & jellies/boba/halo halo stuff for making drinks, and a HUGE selection of dumpling wrappers- coz we make hella dumplings. Also Yakult drinks ( not the knock off brands) , sour cherry juice, and various furikake. They also have random housewares at great prices, kitchen implements, even little stools & tables this past weekend.

We really enjoyed the cheese, meat was decent, and spinach was good as well. As soon as you walk into the store, you smell the fatayer which was very nice. Because you can't get freshly baked Middle Eastern / Levantine pastries just anywhere in the Bay! If you've been to a Yemeni coffeeshop in the Bay Area, especially if it's in the East Bay, you might have seen this bakery's fatayer and manakeesh sold there since they supply a bunch of the coffeeshops. They bake all day and you can stop by at any given time and find freshly made pastries sitting on the table by the bakery section. In terms of selection, they generally have different types of fatayer (spinach, beef, chicken, cheese, more recently potato), manakeesh, lahm bi ajeen (soft flatbreads with a meat and tomato mixture on top), and chicken musakhan rolls. They don't always have every item available but they'll let you know what's in the oven. The pastries are 6 for $15 currently. They freeze well too. I've been here often and the customer service has always been friendly.

It's an older building that used to be another grocery store back in the day, so it has those older vibes. The parking lot is kinda grimey but once inside it fulfills all my Filipino grocery needs. There are a lot of satellite businesses (all Filipino geared, cuz Union City) that can complete a one stop shop. There's a Goldilocks, a shipping courier, a bakery (San Honore) and a few restaurant stalls for take-away. I like the produce here, very clean and plentiful. Slightly better prices than both 99 Ranch and Seafood City. Easily 50% of my baskets here are produce. Their dry/pantry selections are also above average from sauces in bottles/packets to noodles to snacks. Their meat section is okay, almost everything is meant to get cooked long and slow family style. If I want a steak to cook in minutes I'll go to an American grocery store. Their seafood section is also a big draw for me, lots of things from tropical waters. But this seafood area can be pretty hardcore at times as lots of things are out in the open just sitting on ice so things can be exposed right in front of you. Most Americans are used to things being behind glass or wrapped up in styrofoam and plastic. Not here you'll see whole fishes with heads and tails along with cut up specimens. I think they are trying to bring those 'wet market' sensibilities from the old world here but with stricter/monitored temperature controls. This is my neighborhood Filipino grocery go-to. And I'm proud of it.

I remembered a place on Jackson Street that I had gone to 5 years ago that had a tremendous selection - looked it up on Yelp and it was no longer on Jackson, but was listed in Castro Valley. So we went thought we'd go by and give it a try. Great decision! The "new" store in Castro Valley is much brighter, cleaner, nicer than the old location. I think the old location had more stuff from Eastern Europe, but this new location seems to have a broader selection, with more stuff from Western Europe and the Middle East. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - always willing to answer questions and even give tips on how to use the products that they sell. And his recommendations have been great - we asked him about which tahini and zaatar to get (they have many different brands/types of each...) and the ones he recommended have been way tastier than any of the brands that you find in most markets. Especially good was his recommendation on lebnah - he said that the brands they carry are all good, but they have some that they package in-house that was special. I tried it - it was less expensive than the other brands, but was the very best lebnah that I have ever tasted! Richer, creamier, with just the right amount of tang. Wonderful stuff! Anyway, Crossroads is a nice, clean, well-lit place with a great selection of unique products, and friendly, knowledgeable sales staff. Well worth a trip!
