​I am very disappointed with the lack of professionalism and follow-through from Foothill Fence. I had someone come out for an estimate, and the initial meeting seemed perfectly normal. However, that was the last positive part of the experience. ​After waiting a week with no estimate, I sent an email that went completely ignored. A week after that, I called the office; the staff seemed confused but promised the estimate would be sent by the end of the day. It never arrived. I called again the next day and was told they would "figure it out" and call me back. Again, no call and no estimate. ​Being flakey is one thing, but the total lack of communication is what's most frustrating. I was really hoping to work with them, but now I'm back at square one, and my project has been delayed by weeks because I was waiting on them. I used Foothill Fence to install a new fence around 9 years ago. Recently one of the posts broke from strong winds. At this point I noticed the entire fence was very wobbly and falling over. I dug around multiple posts and found two with no concrete and most with very little concrete. I called and Erik came out to take a look. He said the fence was installed properly (even though he found one post with no concrete!) and recommended using braces to fix it. They gave an initial estimate of $1900. I disagreed that the fence was installed properly originally and asked for a discount because the initial workmanship was so poor. I took responsibility for not noticing this when it was first installed and I didn't blame their poor craftsmanship on the broken post. I was just hoping for them to take some responsibility and give me a discount. After some back and forth Erik agreed to come out again and meet with me to look at the fence. He never showed up. I called the office and no one answered. I then texted him and it turns out there was some miscommunication. I asked him if he could still come out that day. He didn't respond. I texted if he could come one day the next week. No response. At this point I gave up and got someone else to fix. My new contractor was hoping for a simple fix, but recommended replacing some of the posts instead of just using braces. But after he dugout every post he told me almost every post needed replaced and that none of them had anywhere near the amount of concrete needed and the concrete wasn't mixed properly. So he ended up replacing 10 of the 11 posts and rebuilding the fence. I do want to say, I don't even blame the current people working there -- Erik and Darren -- for the poor craftsmanship. The person I dealt with 9 years ago no longer works there. The crew who put in my fence probably no longer works there. But not only did they decide to ignore me and not work with me, their plan of how to fix my fence was totally inadequate. I also want to say I have never written this type of review in my life. I'm not a vindictive person and even after they ignored me I wasn't going to do this. But once my new contractor told me how poor everything was done initially, I had no other choice. read more

Brian came out to do an estimate a couple days after calling, and was very helpful along the way with any questions I had before he started. We had a redwood gate installed around our swimming pool pump and the workers who showed up were very friendly and asked me questions as they proceeded to make sure they built it just how I wanted it. Worked with Brian at Foothill fence. He came by and measured my fence, sent us a quote to build and equivalent fence. Returned a week or two later to do the work. Upon finishing we realized he only built us half fence, that means our neighbors side looks like our old fence, our fence looked like the back of a fence. We approached brian, asked him to keep his promise to build us a fence as he promised, of the same quality and design as the one he replaced. He said "no, that is what I told you, I never wanted to build you a fence and you made me do this" and "I explained this to you and you agreed" I said to him, you accepted the job, do your work and keep your promises and that there was a misunderstanding, "why would i ask you to build half a fence???" The contract said nothing to that effect that i would accept a replacement for a fence that looked the same on both sides then replaced with a one-sided fence. So he comes back and says you have to pay an extra $1600 (40% extra) for us to make the fence look like your old fence and you should have known by what I told you verbally that the fences would not look the same. Then I told him, the fence, as is, is damaged, needs repair work, asked me for pictures that I sent him. He came in looked at it and said, no that is "industry quality" we cannot make it look better "sorry". Then he demanded payment, said that if I don't pay for the fence 'as is' he will put me in collections. This has been complete nightmare. It is impossible to talk to this company, they don't explain the details, don't help you understand. They knowingly build something that was not of the same quality as what was built before and they want to force me to pay for it. Update on this fence: the vertical slats had spaces in between and we could see right thru to the neighbor's side (had to have them caulked). The fence was built in its entirety the same height, did not account for the slope of the property at all, so it looks shorter in some areas. The crew left a pile of dirt and a box of screws in my garden and did not clean up. read more

I was in a real jam: My new dog learned how to escape from my yard by climbing over my six-foot cinderblock wall. My previous dog had lived with me 11 years and never figured out how to do that. Needless to say, I couldn't let my (new) dog out into the yard unattended until the wall got a 4' fence extender put on top of it. I called Foothill Fence and they came out that Saturday to do the work. They did a great job, and they used screws to hold the fence together. Rigo's, another fence contractor I have used, uses nails, an inferior way to build a fence (or anything else). I am thrilled with the work done by Foothill Fence. I was very indecisive about the shape of the pickets and Carl worked with me to help come up with the most lovely fence. The quality of the fence is obvious---I have gotten so many compliments. I think this fence might hold up for 100 years!! The wood is gorgeous. Keep in mind that a quality fence with quality craftsmanship will cost a pretty penny---but it is certainly worth it and I found the cost completely reasonable. If you wants a cheap fence go to Home Depot, if you want a beautiful and quality fence that will stand the test of time, foothill fence is a superb choice. Brian was wonderful! However, we had wrought iron fencing replaced on our property and the crew was stung by bees. Charged us for the first day they did not work. I had an exterminator come out and they could not locate any issue. they came back the next day and stung again. again charged the day for no work. had a bee specialist come out, found a nest, removed. came back the next day, worked half a day because they ran out of material. I did not charge them for leaving half day. Mind you I also paid for two companies to come out regarding the bees. We were charged !,500 extra because of the bees. Gave suggestions and also *listened* to what I wanted. - PROFESSIONAL - provided a detailed quote via PDF attachment with project cost split out into line-items. He was courteous and didn't pressure me to sign the contract with him right away. - Quote for the fence was actually one of the lower ones that we got, so he's reasonably priced too! County Fence and Gates, for example, came in $2800 HIGHER for literally the SAME job. Insane. I only decided not to use Brian & Foothill Fence because it turns out my landscaper can also build the same fence, and when it was bundled into the overall cost of re-landscaping our front yard, the cost was significantly lower. Foothill Fence installed a fence on my property yesterday and did a great job. The fence is 60 feet long with vertical redwood slats and galvanized steel posts. The fence was installed very quickly (started around 9am and completed before 2:30pm the same day) and the workmanship was great. The fence is perfectly straight and solidly built. The estimator came over and measured, I told him the fence must be built from my side at the request of the people next door. As the existing fence is entirely on my property with a foot on the other side I did not think that was a problem, especially chain link with those small posts... Foothill Fence did, however, they said by email that workers could drop their tools and they could roll down on to the neighbors. My property is on flat ground not much rolling going on.
