I called Foothill Fence after seeing the great reviews on Yelp. I have about 300 ft of fence I need replaced. I contacted the number from the website and made an appointment with whoever answered the phone. He didn't say his name or the name of the company when I called. I made an appointment for last Saturday, but he called me on Friday and he was at my house for the appointment. I reminded him that the appointment was Saturday and his response was,"Oh today is Friday?". We reconfirmed the appointment for the next day. Should have known at that point to cancel, but I wanted to see what kind of estimate he would give. Well, he was a no show for the appointment on Saturday. This week I started yelping fence contractors and accidentally called Foothill again. I forgot the name of the company when I previously called. The same guy answered, again not saying his name or the company name. I gave him my address and he said he needed to check his calendar and call me back in 15 minutes. No return call. Not sure how he stays in business treating customers that way. Total waste of my valuable time. Well, that's 10k of my money that will be going to his competition. read more

We had Foothill Fence put 2 fences up for us, each with a gate. They came out and did it in a reasonable period of time. The 2 guys Carl sent out to do the install were not the sharpest knives in the drawer. One smoked and left his cigarette butts in our plants. He also made no eye-contact, which was kind of creepy. They made a mistake on one gate and drilled holes in the wrong place and patched it with some glue-like substance, saying it was "hard to get it right." We called to complain to Carl and he said he'd replace it. I cannot believe that the 2 guys installing the gate were under the impression that it was OK to install it and leave it patched like that. We asked for different guys to return with the new gate. They also left detritus around both areas where they were working - clumps of cement and gobs of what belonged in the garbage can. Carl had someone come out straight away to clean all that up. Then the same 2 guys returned to install the new gate. It didn't close correctly. We emailed Carl to tell him and he had someone come out to adjust it. It still doesn't close right. I'd say NO to Foothill Fence. No way. read more

This company was referred to me by my designer who also had some work done and she is picky. Carl is the only one who showed up to give me a quote on a building a wooden gate. It is very wide and so he created posts.I showed him a picture of what I wanted and he emailed me a quote in 4 days. It was reasonable. He was busy and explained he would get to me in 2 to 3 weeks. We agreed to have he and his crew install the fence. They scheduled us two weeks out and said they would complete the job in two days. Tonight I'm enjoying my new 8' fence. It's 70 feet and beautiful. I checked out 5 fence companies. Went thru the process. Foothill gave me what I felt comfortable with. Brian was a mellow fellow who knew his fence. They were just what I needed. JOB: Redwood fence. Used gal steel 4" posts x 8". Bolted 3-11/2" horizontal ribs to attach redwood to. This design is super strong. I ran my wants and wishes to Brian. He understood what I wanted. He even made a side trip and dropped off a sample of the hardware he was planning to use. He knew how important the pieces were to me to see in person. Brian was very patient with my ideas and we came up with a great design. Our plan was to dig 3' of footing but this house had super large cement footing left over from 1950. These homes built just after WWII were built very quickly for the returning soldiers. They didn't put much re-bar in the block wall probably because we hadn't caught up from the war with materials. We had just finished building tanks and bombers. A lack of metal but no lack of concrete I guess. Joe has been building fences for 17 years and never saw such heavy foundation. It ran down over 3' and 2' wide. Digging a hole was impossible to keep the property line correct. But Joe and Jesus didn't give up. They actually chipped away at the old footing but it was like granite. It cost them plenty of time and sweat but we needed to re-thing the plan. So we decided to core drill the existing concrete and use that super hard foundation in our favor. It went perfect. I recently contracted with Foothill to install 650 linear feet of wood split rail fencing. The work was competent and the two men installing were both polite and seemed to understand what needed to be done to compete the job well and communicated with me, the client, well. HOWEVER, they broke several sprinkler lines and two landscaping lights. This was no big deal and I was happy to take the responsibility of the cost to fix these items as the workers informed me of the issues timely. However, they also cut through a main line of the sprinkler system, thereby turning off an entire acre of water -- this was not communicated timely and, by the time we figured out the water problem, landscaping damage was done. I was out a total of $800.00 to fix all the issues (labor and materials). In an open minded spirit and in consideration of how well the fence turned out, I asked to take off $300 of the final invoice to cover the cost of just the last issue - the main line wiring which they could not have damaged without knowledge . I was told that the owner did not agree with the deduction. I twice requested that the owner call me. Instead, he refused to call me and sent a long and threatening letter misquoting the law and trying to bully me into paying the outstanding $300 of the $10,000 contract. He thereafter filed a claim for $300 plus $100 of alleged expenses without trying to contact me first. He never called me or apologized for the damage to my property. If I had received a simple phone call with some sort of customer service, I would have paid the entire bill instead of holding back 3 percent. It is a shame bc the workmanship was good and I have several other fencing projects to do on my farm over the next year, but I would never deal with someone who will not discuss issue on a construction project, and I highly recommend that you not use Foothill Fence for this very reason. read more
