The owner/receptionist is very friendly and welcoming. The place is clean. There is very limited parting in front of the unit. It is a single room (studio) with curtains for limited privacy. Therefore, you can hear everything from the front door opening to every patron getting a massage, and any other noises as the front door opens. I can imagine it getting drafty in the winter, as there is no barrier at the front entrance. There is a single restroom that opens directly into the massage area. Try not to get a massage chair in front of it. I tried both a 1 hour foot and 1 hour body massage. The cost is competitive: $25 for a foot massage and $40 for the body massage. The therapist was competent and had decent massage techniques. Be aware that the style of massage is the harder, rougher style typical of most Chinese massage places, just in case your looking for a more relaxing type of massage. My problem was the entire massage was performed on one of those massage sofa chairs that are common to Chinese foot massage places. This proved to be a problem for me neck the next day. There wasn't enough support in the chair for this long a face down massage. I still gave the therapist a good tip as she doesn't have control over the layout nor massage furniture. I did, however, reduce the number of stars from four to three because you should end up with more problems than you went in with. Remember, my rating is always relative to the area. So the idea of a four star rating is comparative to this city, not what may be available in other areas in the San Gabriel Valley. I would return for a foot massage, but probably would spend a more to visit a place with actual massage tables for a body massage. read more

Several years ago, a friend took me to a "foot clinic" on Valley Blvd. For an hour, I sank into a comfortable chair as a fellow with strong hands, a soothing cadence and tone to his Mandarin whispering with a colleague, and the faintest eau de cigarette, worked me over from head to toe for an hour, all while Faye Wong sang on one TV and "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" blared on another. It was, save perhaps the births of my children, the greatest day of my life. Within a few years, I started to notice many neon signs for FOOT MASSAGE popping up all over town... and not just along the Valley Blvd thoroughfare. One such sign appeared very close to my work on Foothill in Arcadia, and I resolved to give it a try. After reading a few good Yelp reviews, I ducked in here a couple of weeks ago, and was glad I did! A quiet, comfortable setting, complete with soft music, dim lighting, and a peaceful aquarium of silvery fish created a tranquil experience. I opted for the $20 deal, and was soon fighting off heavy eyelids after a long day at the office. My masseuse probably weighed half what I do; consequently, he used every advantage of leverage he could-- at one point, he was literally kneeling on my back, but in a way that was not unpleasant. To a casual observer, it might have almost appeared comical, but this guy genuinely earned his money from me, working each knot out carefully with the right amount of pressure. Some citrus lotion kept things moving without pulling any hair or making anything too weird. I ended up doubling-down with an extra Andy Jackson tip for this brave fellow that took on the muscular manifestation of my stress with his bare hands (and knees.) All told, I've probably had better massages, but not many. As a bonus, the location is a lot easier on the commute home than heading down to Valley and Del Mar during rush hour traffic (aside: such sacrifices also make a big bowl of Pho an easier proposition, so I suppose there is SOME opportunity cost with staying closer to home...) I will definitely visit again, and you probably should give it a try, too. read more

I NEEDED a great foot massage... what I didn't know is that my back was in pain as well but HELLO! I found out I have some thoracic pain when they WWF-style massaged my back. It was about $25 for the hour long massage. Seriously, that's so worth it!! They had 90 minute massages as well.. for an extra $10, which next time, may be what I will try! Recently, I've gone to some massage places where I felt like they were just feeling me instead of it being therapeutic but this place literally hunter-seeker style hunted down all the knots in my back and elbowed the sheez outta them. There are many of these inexpensive foot massage places in the San Gabriel, but what makes this one special is the personalized attention, and its close proximity to hotel row in Monrovia. The day before, my friend and I went to Joyful, which was good but at least 8 miles away; the rest are about 14 miles from hotel row, so we didn't even bother. It is $20/hr for a foot massage (about half of that is spent on your back and other area unless you tell them otherwise), or $30 for 1.5 hours. It is a small place, only about 10 chairs. There were 4 masseuses available when we arrived. It was 8:30 p.m. on a Sunday night, and we were the only customers there, so it was very peaceful (I asked them to turn on some relaxing music and they happily obliged with some classical). They don't speak very much English (if you know Mandarin, you'll have no problem communicating with them), however, they make a good effort to understand your instructions and personal preferences. The amount of effort they put into making us feel comfortable and asking whether they were massaging too hard or too soft was much appreciated. I even mentioned that my friend had a headache and I had a stomachache, and they used some reflexology techniques on us which seemed to work; we definitely felt relaxed and refreshed after leaving. Let's face it, for someone to spend an hour on your feet or any other part of your body for $20 is a great deal no matter what! read more

Today was my first time. I chose their biggest package, 90 min body & foot massage. It cost $35, which is an excellent deal for a relaxation massage. My therapist was Raphael. He was very good. Great pressure and didn't hurt me at all at any point. I really enjoyed it. The reason they are short one star is because they do not have private areas or full body massage tables. So if you opt for one of the packages that includes body oil massage, it gets done in the massage chair, which limits a lot of the massage and also they can't Undress you at all they just maneuver around your clothes. Such as pulling your shirt up to do part of your back then pulling your shirt down to do your shoulders. It's not the greatest but even then I just enjoyed relaxing and being massaged anyway and the price is right! There's a few parking stalls right up front and other street or shopping center parking close by. It is right on the corner of 5th & Huntington. Off of Huntington headed west you make a right on 5th and the driveway is immediately to your right. They run the ac which is great. No one wants to be hot or start to sweat during a massage in this closed up small facility. It's pretty cleanish and it seems their laundry is clean and smells washed. They have a bathroom. And they play relaxation music and for the most part they limit their talking and whisper which is nice. I'll definitely be back. I think it's a darn good deal. And shame on the other guy for not being prepared and tipping them decent. Massage therapists work hard on your body and the massages are pretty dirt cheap. $5 is custom but if it was good $10-20 I'd say. I tipped $15 today. I have to chime in here to all of the cheap Yelpers who think they can give paltry tips that are below the standard living wage and exploit workers. Most massage places are like Uber. The driver/massage person does the work, and Uber / the massage establishment takes the fee for providing the platform/real estate. These humans survive on tips. That's their real payment. If your massage is $30 and you give a $10 tip, then it's still massage that costs only $40. That's about $60 less than fancy, bougie massages and about $110 less than a hotel/resort massage, not even including tip. If you go to a hipster coffee shop and the spin around the Square screen, the tip options are usually 18% to 22%. And that's not even for waiter service. That's to place your order at the counter and to pick up your order at the counter. Masseuses have to work hard for an hour to up to 75 minutes for their tips. Touching your not-so-pretty bodies.... I have been enjoying a massage for many years. No one asked me to write this review--I just felt the need to do so because of the petty and small-minded people posting reviews on the platform. If you are paying $30 for a massage, don't expect a $150 resort massage. Not going to happen. But sometimes, you can get pleasantly surprised. read more

I usually go to the foot massage spot by 7/11, but decided to give this place a try. I came with two other people and we made an apt so we can all get a massage at the same time. We were greeted when walking in and were given a menu of the services. I thought the one hour foot massage was $20 because that's what I saw on their Yelp from a couple months ago, but this menu said $25. It's only $5, but still wish I checked the reviews better because I didn't know they increased the price. The three of us were seated and I noticed the massage started on the two other people in my group, but I was laying there still waiting for mine to begin. I'm also short so when I slid down the table to get my feet in the water bucket it was at a weird angle and ended up causing me lower back pain for the entire duration of my massage. I also told my girl to go easy on me because I bruise easily and don't like rough massages. I'm sure she toned it done, but it was still more of a painful experience than relaxing. They start at your head and do some scalp motion that end up fucking up your hair. Then doing your face, arms, hands, and your feet. I found it weird she wore gloves when massaging my feet. It didn't feel relaxing at all and felt more like wrinkly old hands were touching my feet and it felt odd. Then when she got to my back she just pushed hard and it was really painful. Location also sucks. Foothill is a busy street and during most of my massage there were cars honking and speeding and it was kind of annoying. I can get over all that, but what annoyed me the most is that during my massage they received 2-3 phone calls for appointments and the woman massaging me was the one answering them. So she would have to get up in the middle of my massage and answer the phone and talk on the phone while massaging me. And what also sucks is my groups massages began before me and I ended at the same time as them, so I felt jipped from that and the fact that she kept getting up to answer the phone. So I walked out of here more annoyed than relaxed and now with bird's nest hair. The staff was friendly and they give you some warm green tea after the massage which is nice, but I didn't have such a Sunshine experience and will continue going to my other spot from now on. read more

The 2 guys massaged my boyfriend and I and we both left so relaxed. We were basically falling asleep on the way home. Only gripe I have is there is no privacy. Terrible! The massage place I usually go to was fully booked for the night so I looked on yelp and saw that this place had 4 stars with a lot of reviews so decided to give it a try. I called at 8:15 to make an appointment for 9:30 and the lady on the phone made it clear that they wanted to go home exactly at their closing time and said 9. I was eating and wasn't sure if I would make it at that time so I told her 9:15 and she said 9:10 so I said ok. We got there at 9 and as soon as you walk in you smell BO. I know it's cold outside but they had the heater on high because it just felt really warm and musty and smelled like BO. She quickly rushed me and my sister in and as we were walking to our curtain room ( they do not have closed off rooms here) she called for us back and asked us to pay first. I asked her why we had to pay first and she said because she wanted to go home. I understand people want to go home but you're working and if your hours are a set time don't make your playing clients hurry and rush them and let it be known how badly you wanna go home, it's just rude. We had two men do our massages. The man who did mine all his strokes were just super quick or simply just pushing down on me very hard. Nothing about the back massage was enjoyable. It felt really rushed and really aggressive when I asked for SOFT. Also when he was reaching over to do my back massage his knees kept pressing up against my hair and pulling my hair ...The stones they used weren't very warm and it was once again just quick hard strokes. The only enjoyable part of the massage was the face and arms. He did not massage any of my legs barely and just felt really rushed and no effort. Towards the end of our massage you hear all the lady workers in there taking amongst each other and cleaning up. They sprayed or used a bunch of alcohol and then all I could smell from that point was alcohol. What happened to the spa massage aroma smells!? I'm not sure what other reviewers had done but this place has people giving massages that shouldn't.They don't help you relax it intensifies what ever hurts. Never will I ever go to this place again. If I could leave a lower rating I would. Incredibly disappointed in this place for the reviews it has. Let me start off by saying I paid for a massage. Not the opportunity to be in the middle of a kitchen. The massage I can't complain about other than the guy was weak. I could live with it. But the ambience is what slaughtered this place. Massage itself: wish I wouldn't have given this place a second chance. I came here back in September and was extremely disappointed with my massage. The guy massaging me was using his elbows the entire time he massaged my back and it was not relaxing at all. I decided to give it a second chance and left even more disappointed than the last time. I had to tell the guy massaging me three times to not massage me so rough. I was in pain most of my massage. He also loved to massage really really fast where my whole body was being shifted from the top of the couch/massage bed to the bottom. My face got pushed down into the head piece so hard that I couldn't breathe a few times. He massaged the rough towel that has probably been bleached 100 times so deep into my back that it turned my back and legs red. The inside: bed sheets separate little massage areas. Everyone gets massaged in a single room. The carpet in my section didn't look like it had been vacuumed in a few days and the blanket he put over me had hair all over it. Not the cleanest place, but hey I guess that's what you get for what you pay over at that place. I will never come back here again. I'm surprised this place has 4/5 stars. This place is kinda like right off the street, with parking right around that corner on 5th. Everyone is really nice, and attentive. I got the 75min combo massage with hot stone and oil. The man that I had was very sweet, and continued to tell me to RELAX during my massage (because knowing me, I tend to tense up a lot hah). Overall the experience was nice. It was quiet, dark, soothing music. My favorite was the warm oil and hot stone! It was just sooooo relaxing and enjoyable. One critique is that the door enters right into the massage space. This place has been my go to massage for years. I've even recommended this place to my friends. Tonight however I experienced what other reviewers experienced when it came to tips. I typically tip $10 every time I go and have no qualms about it. My bill was $40 and with added $1 for credit card use. May asked me if I wanted to charge $50 so I said ok . I found out later that she put $15 tip on top of my bill. I probably would have been ok with it but really disappointed that she did this. I'm probably not going back. I am genetically inclined to question everything, am tough to please, and despise change when I've found something I am comfortable with. That being said I have driven way out of my way to Master Wong's in San Gabriel for years. Hadn't been in a while, drive up to MW's to find it's something different. Now, I HAVE to find a new place. I've visited several other foot spas, but never liked them as much. How do I find a place that equals Master Wong's in terms of quality of working out my stress knots, that also doesn't feel sketchy? Twenty bucks for a full hour massage? The price is certainly right. Girlfriend went to a foot massage place in LA with her cousin and came back extolling the virtues and benefits of reflexology. She suggested we try the place up the street and around the corner. It was 8:30 on Sunday. I was bored, so why the heck not? There were two middle-aged fellows running the place--one was outside having a smoke when we arrived. Only one other customer was inside getting the treatment. She was reclining in one of several large chairs, covered with towels, and appeared to be comatose. A flatscreen was tuned into a Chinese language TV station. We were greeted with warm smiles and pleasant waves but it soon became apparent that neither man spoke a word of English. Although Girlfriend's mama speaks a Chinese dialect or two, Girlfriend never learned to habla the lingo herself, so we had to rely on the tried and true American method of international communication: SHOUT REALLY LOUDLY! Of course, that never really works. Somehow we figured out that only one of us could start the massage right away and the other would have to wait until 9:00. No biggie. We didn't have appointments. The guy went to work on me and I really had no idea what to expect. OUCH! OW! After several minutes, I feared he would leave the room and come back wearing a Lucha Libre mask, hellbent on delivering a spine-shattering pile driver to my delicate lumbar region. He didn't, of course, and I soon got used to the pain. Girlfriend and I left at around ten, just as another couple arrived. Does this place ever close? THE SATURDAY FOOT MASSAGE ODYSSEY - A review in Two Parts - This is Part 1 PROLOGUE I was tired as b@lls last Saturday, what with J.U.M.A aka Judy M.'s most excellent Happy Hour UYE @ Shakas Hawaiian Flavors and then poker with a bunch of shady characters afterwards the night before. I should've just taken it easy the whole day - which for me would've been watching the whole gamut of PBS cooking shows from "America's Test Kitchen" in the morning to Rick Bayless' "Mexico One Place at a Time" in the evening (although watching Bayless' dynamic with his hot daughter is becoming more and more disturbing to me, so I might start skipping that show). However, I had made plans to get a foot massage with a cutie in San Gabriel Valley, so I had to get my slothful @ss out of bed and get the show on the road. ACT I ("The Call To Action") The day didn't start off well. First of all, after I had eaten breakfast at The Dive (my usual spot - which is closing since the space is being taken over by the chicks who run La Ciudad and Border Grill - more on this later), I discovered that I left my wallet at home. I felt like such a deadbeat as I asked the waitress to let me pay her "later." Thankfully she didn't make a stink out of it. So I drove home and picked up my wallet and headed to Monrovia.* (*At least I didn't leave it in El Segundo, right?) In case you didn't catch that, let me repeat it. Monrovia. Sounds like an Eastern European country with an epaulet-wearing inbred potentate as a leader, doesn't it? Of course it felt like I was driving all the way to Eastern Europe on Saturday since Google maps gave me directions to get to the city east of Pasadena via the 101 South, then the 2 through Alvarado, then to the 134 East. As some of you know, the 101 is like a parking lot on the weekends. Had I been lucid, I would've gone thru Burbank to get to the 134, but I wasn't lucid, so there I sat in traffic for almost 45 minutes on a trip that would've taken 15 minutes usually. I finally got to Monrovia, ready for the $19.99 foot massage I was promised at the Foot Spa -- but unfortunately the joint had effed up our appointment and told us to come back an hour later. The cutie, her friend and I were incredibly annoyed, so we bolted. The cutie said that she knew of another spot where we could get service right away. In summary, I don't know how good the Foot Spa's service is, since we didn't get one. This is the first time I've ever considered giving a business zero stars. (To be continued) read more

Things I like about this place: 1.) $20 for a full hour massage! 2.) $20 for a FULL HOUR massage! 3.) $20 for FULL HOUR massage! Hehehe. So the place isn't the nicest of massage places I've been to that cost $20, but it's the closest thing we have to our work, so it'll have to do. It's a bit smaller than normal too, but I can overlook that since it's only $20 for a full hour massage. Haha. We came on a Tuesday afternoon and there was only one other customer in there. They sat us down quickly and began in less than 5 minutes. They start out with your head and your arms and your neck. Then they move down to your feet and they massage your feet for a good long while. (I fell asleep and even snored!) They massage your legs too. And turn you over to massage your back. The lady I had was really nice and didn't press too hard like some other places do. The only downside to this place was that it was difficult communicating with them. They had a hard time understanding us. We tried our best and I know they were trying too. Another thing was we called ahead of time to say that there were 4 of us coming in. We didn't have much time since we were on our lunch break and so when we walked in, they could only give 3 of us massages. My other coworker wasn't able to get her massage because we didn't have enough time. One last thing, they say they take credit card, but their machine was down because of the rain. That's a strange reason, but I had to borrow some cash from my coworker. So to be safe, just bring cash!
