Today was my second time at Haruko Craft Ramen. It was my first time back before the ramen menu…read morechanged so I was excited to try it again. When walking in, you order on a large screen and seat yourself. Unfortunately to order on the screen it charged us a $3 "NYC online ordering fee" which was very odd (in addition to sales tax) - in addition the screen also asks you for a tip before you even sit down! But we weren't given any other way to order besides the screen which was a turn off with an extra fee involved My date and I ordered the creamy tonkatsu and creamy broth with pork. Overall, the ramen wasn't terrible, but it really lacked a home style ramen flavor and was not hot. This may be something I've never said, but they brought the ramen out in less than 5 minutes which makes me think the ingredients aren't fresh. There were no additional sauces or anything at the table to add flavor to the ramen. I also wouldn't describe it as a creamy broth at all. We also ordered the takoyaki which to me seemed like a frozen variety. We also each got a bubble tea which was not anything special. It was surprising they didn't have a taro slush option. The server did bring out the food to us, but the extra "online" fee when ordering was a bit of a turn off in addition to the lackluster ramen. Overall I probably don't see a compelling reason to come back.

TLDR: Go get the gyoza and pork bao and skip the ramen if you live 5-10min away. Skip it altogether…read moreif you live further away. We walked in on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm after seeing all the hype Stepout Buffalo gave this place on IG. We were greeted by someone quickly where she tried explaining how it works - order on a giant touch screen which was simple enough. Didn't love the fact that they ask you for the tip before you even sit down but that's the way this country works these days (spoiler alert: the service was not worth the 20% aka $20 we tipped) The seaweed salad was a bit slimy but generally not bad. The gyoza were excellent, would def order again. So was the pork bao. The meat was perfectly breaded and seasoned and cooked to perfection, and the sauces that went with it were delicious. This is kind of where the greatness ended. Onto the ramen (the main reason we were there), the noodles were honestly not bad but that's pretty much the best part. The soup was non existent and cold by the time you get to it - I think it has to do with the fact that all the vegetable toppings are mostly cold. The broth was also super salty (with no real flavor), I think to make up for the fact that the toppings not being well seasoned (my bean sprouts were completely flavorless). The breaded pork again was good, but I didn't like how it sat in the soup and got soggy, perhaps it should have been served separately on a plate? The grilled sliced pork belly was good and flavorful. I've had ramen all over Japan so believe me when I tell you the broth is not authentic nor is it good, which kinda ruined the entire dish. Our drinks were overpriced and very average tasting. The boba was too mushy but I am from Taiwan, so I guess I have high standards when it comes to boba. All in all, a VERY expensive lunch where neither of us enjoyed our entree (ramen), and given that we live in the southtowns, it's unlikely that we will ever return, even if the gyoza and pork bao were very tasty. As a final note, the atmosphere sucked. The workers talked and giggled very loudly the entire time as if no one understood what they were saying (unfortunately for them, I understood every word). FYI - This place is NOT Japanese despite its Japanese name.

They also have a large menu (some might complain its too large, lol). They have a variety of Thai, Japanese, Chinese, and other Asian dishes. They also have samosas, which was unexpected. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Curry Ramen, which was phenomenal. I also appreciated how the chicken was marinated and cut as they do in Japan. They also have the three major kinds of Ramen (Shoyu, Miso, and Tonkutsu). This place looks far from fancy, but its great to stop by for a nice authentic meal.

We came here because we wanted to try somewhere none of us had been before and everyone had a fantastic meal. The inside was larger than we expected and very clean. We were greeted by a friendly server and told we could sit anywhere we liked. We ordered soft shell crab bao and papaya salad for appetizers, both of which were crowd pleasers. Our entrees included chicken pad Thai, red curry duck, Massaman curry and tofu pad see ew. The portions were large enough for all off to have leftovers even after we had eaten our fill. I wish I had ordered the Massaman curry for myself, but I guess I'll just have to come back for more!

I met up with my friend here for lunch and we were the first ones here before the lunch rush. We ordered our drinks and food and the service was quick and friendly. My glass was a little dirty but I just drank out of my can anyways so not a huge deal. The food is the real deal here. HUGE portions. The pad thai towered over the plate and it was so good! I usually get chicken but I wanted to try the beef and I was pleasantly surprised. The beef had a really good flavor and tenderness to it. Everything was cooked and assembled beautifully on the plate. This place is tucked in a little bit and you could drive right past it. It is definitely worth the trip over and you'll have plenty of leftovers to take home.
