We went for an evening of comedy and here's what was good and not so good. Trying to figure out which line you were supposed to stand in to get in was confusing for everyone. Everyone was asking each other where they should be because it was definitely not clear. While in line we were offered raffle tickets for some prizes. When you make it to the door staff members select a table for you that you share with others which is not a problem unless the people you shared the table with drink too much... The servers are hard working and friendly. The food was meh at best. But it was mandatory to buy. The chips with queso... the bottom of the bag chips were broken and all the salt from the bag was on them. The soft pretzels were ok but I'm not sure what the dipping sauce was supposed to be. The portobello sliders were , and I quote "ok" That food cost $70 with one Pepsi and one glass of one. The comedians were fun and everyone enjoyed themselves. The comedians who perform at Helium Comedy Club are great, but the club itself leaves me feeling thoroughly ripped off. There is a $6.99 fee added to the ticket price, and an 18% administrative fee is tacked onto the food bill--yet you are still expected to leave the server a separate tip. On top of that, each person is required to purchase at least two food or drink items. Parking used to be free, but now costs $26-$30. I was reminded today of exactly why I don't enjoy going to Helium. No matter how good the comedians are, the constant extra fees and mandatory charges make the experience feel unnecessarily expensive and frustrating. I've had enough. I will not be going back to Helium Comedy Club. read more

I was a little put off before we came when I received an email about the 18% admin fee saying we didn't need to leave a tip unless we felt service exceeded expectation because they pay their servers well above minimum wage. If that's what the admin fee is for, we're still supplementing their income so it's not like they're actually doing anyone a favor. I don't mind a mandatory gratuity. Just be honest about it. That said, tickets are inexpensive. There's not a bad seat in the house, but we only had to pay an extra $10 for reserved seating and ended up right up front for Kevin Smith. Service was great (and we still tipped). Drinks and food are fine if overpriced. The venue is intimate. We were able to get free street parking right in front. read more

The drinks were pretty good but I didn't know they would be serving margaritas out of cans...the shot glasses were super small as well. We got the fries and the chips and dip and they were alright but you can pretty much bet on the fries almost every time. I think if they're gonna do 2 shows in one night they should start earlier instead of rushing those of us who didn't pay for a meet and greet out so they can get ready for the next show in 25 min. It just doesn't give a welcome feeling. Also because of how seating is it might also be good to offer a QR code per table for ordering so the servers can just bring your order and not have to crouch down or block the view of the performers. Came here for a sold out show this weekend and it was great! I love the vibe here and feels very cozy for a comedy club. There is a two item minimum in the club which is fine. The servers and host were great and sat us at our table. The only hiccup was when our server came over towards the end to cash us out, we still didn't have our food yet. It was a busy night so no worries but our orders were a little messed up when the food finally came. But this is a comedy club, not a full on restaurant so it's fine. I ordered a drink and some apps. The pizza logs and fried pickles were great and the fries were good too. They have a great selection of drinks and the food menu is a good mix of light and heavy pub grub. I would definitely come back for another show soon. This is a fun spot! read more

This club was hidden on a little brick road set back in Buffalo. The parking was ok as I parked close on the road next to the building. The club says to come at least 15 min early and there isn't much area to wait inside when it's freezing outside. The check in is easy but the inside is very small. They also said they have a two drink/food minimum spend once inside the comedy club. The food and drinks are a little high priced for my liking and didn't look like anything crazy good. Just regular bar food, fries, fingers, sliders etc.. the waitress was very kind and the service was decent with speed. We came here to support a friend who went through the comedy class and had her graduation show on a Tuesday night at Helium. The space is great for comedy, however, not a fan of the two item minimum. I wish they would raise the prices and let you order what you want to order because I always feel so rushed with making sure I drink and/or eat everything I have to before they kick you out of the main room abruptly after the show. On this occasion we ordered a coke, a beer, chips and queso and french fries. The fries tasted great, the queso was surprisingly delicious. I recommend getting the queso. Those were the safe items I could eat, so that is why we got them. Parking on the street outside Helium is paid until 10pm. Luckily we were able to park in the parking lot for free on that particular night because nothing was going on downtown. Funny comedians, fun atmosphere. Came here with a group of 4. We paid extra for reserved seats so we could sit together. Maybe that wasn't necessary, but we had great seats. The server was very good. I had looked ahead at their menu and decided to eat before arriving. That's because I'm vegan and I saw there wouldn't be much for me to eat there. First time here with a friend to a comedian she likes. After the show I was hooked too. The venue was ok, we were up front by the stage. One of the opening acts the sound wasn't great for not sure if it was just where we were sitting or what but the rest of the show, no problem. A comedian who I really like was in town and I was excited to see her in person. I've never been to this comedy club before and wasn't sure what to expect. I bought reserved tickets which was good because we had great banquette seating and were seated before general admission. You can either park on the street (Metered) or pay $5 for the public parking lot which is easier to do. Once seated, there were food and drink menus available. It is required to buy 2 items per person at the club. That was fine for us as the show was at 7:30 pm and we needed dinner. Our server, Isabelle, was great; friendly & efficient. As noted in my other reviews, good service is clutch with me. There were plenty of staff on hand seating people and serving food. There was no idle time for these workers. The show was fantastic! Great openers (loved Liz) and so much laughing. Downside is that there are so many rules - two item purchase/person, only items purchased in the showroom count towards minimum, can't sit down until full party arrives, no pictures (was too afraid to snap a pic of my food, didn't want to get in trouble). I understand that they have to implement rules to make a profit, but also, when I go out, I don't like to have to think about all the things I can't do or have to do. When there isn't an event going on in the area (note: it's very close to the Keybank Center), you can park in the lot across the street for free. Otherwise, you have to pay the meters from 4-10pm on Mississippi. (Never saw this before; always thought parking on the street was free after 5pm in Buffalo). Food, well quite frankly, it isn't great. We heard this from multiple friends before we came to the show, but since I wasn't having alcohol, I thought would take my chances. We ordered the Helium Sampler, which is just a bunch of fried foods. There were two pretzel bites about the size of my thumb, some fingers, fried pickles spears, two pizza logs, two mozzarella sticks, all over French fries. We ate it, but nothing special. The condiments came packaged; shocked that blue cheese wasn't included. Also ordered the Greek salad. Better than expected. Plenty of kalamata olives, grape tomatoes, and toppings. Not worth $13, but it got me to my two item requirement. So overall, really glad we came. Joe Dombrowski is a hilarious comedian. Hope to go to another comedy show, but will look into other options in the area, because there are so many rules here and the food isn't so good. read more

I have a deep appreciation for venues that were able to maintain a presence during and after the height of the pandemic. With that being said, it has to be a mutual give and take for the business and patrons. Tickets to shows are purchased online. There is a surcharge to do so and you'll find like so many others, there is a two item minimum for each guest. No biggie right? Well, there's also an 18% administrative charge. No where on their site do they explain what this covers. If it's for the host and hostesses, then say that but otherwise you should be prepared to tip in addition to the aforementioned. Seating inside is extremely close. We were seated at a small bistro like table that was small for two adults, so imagine if you have two other adults assigned to your table. Reserved seating is an up-charge and in my opinion, not worth it. You're seated in no kind of rhyme or reason and they immediately start asking if you're ready to order. Upon ordering, the food and drinks come out rather quickly. Be aware that if you dine at Elements, the restaurant on their premises, it is separate from your requirement to purchase two items. There are a lot of rules they harp on and it detracts from the experience. The drink I had was decent but nothing that made me say wow, I'd like another. The chicken tenders and fries I had were probably some of the most expensive to date. The comedian of the evening was Michael Colyar. We dined at the same restaurant the day prior and he invited us to attend the show. He put on a good show and I had a good time but the size of the venue and the burden of rules to abide by were a bit much. When I went to will call for my tickets, no ID was requested and there is minimal room to wait prior to entering the space where the comedians perform. You're essentially lining up, blocking the door and standing behind patrons at the bar and those dining. Definitely some room for improvement but it's one of those local hometown places that could be a launch pad for the next funny man or woman. I hope management takes heed of the reviews and concerns that patrons have to apply some improvements. Not a bad concept, but laborious for what you get. Undecided if I'd frequent this establishment again. It'd have to be a comedian that I really wanted to see to endure it again. 3.5 stars overall. read more

Had a great time for my first show at Helium! We saw Rodney Perry live and had an absolute blast. There is a two item minimum in the show room, and drinks and food purchased at the lounge / bar before don't count towards it so go hungry/ thirsty. The food was surprisingly good, nothing crazy and definitely 'bar food'. However the marinara in the packet that came with the pizza logs has got to be the worst I've ever had- it should definitely be switched. Service was great and staff keeps you content and is not distracting at all during the act which is impressive! All in all, I cant wait to return for another show. read more

The 3 stars are only because the comedy is always good, sometimes great. It's almost always an aggravating experience with how cramped it is for national acts, and the overpriced food and drink that you're compelled to buy with a 2 drink minimum. The servers are awesome, I don't know how they work with so little space to move. The overall experience at Asbury Hall @ Babeville is way better. Helium gets most of the acts people want to see, so they're gonna get a packed house whether ppl are annoyed with the experience or not. read more

If you have a lot of money to spend, this is the place for you. Going in order of the experience- there's a little booth to the left as soon as you walk in to pick up tickets at will call. (They didn't ask me for ID) Parking was ample, on street parking requires paying the meter Monday-Saturday and there's a lot across which is payment parking as well. Our show was on a Sunday, so if you can swing it, I'd recommend going then and getting there about an hour and a half early for a good spot that's also free. As long as there's no bison or hockey game, you should be in the clear. There's 2 lines to get in, one for reservation and the other is General Admission. We got seated about 35 minutes before the show started. It was well lit and had warm atmosphere. The seating was a little bit too close together for my liking though. The service was top tier. Everyone working was nice, it's the one thing that absolutely shined through my experience. Morgan- you rock! The food and drinks were... meh. For spending over $100, I'd expect a 5 course meal. It's a requirement to get two items for each person (pop counts as one as well). I included the menus in my pictures, so you can see an up to date pricing (as of Oct 2023). The acts were great but a bit short. I went to see trailer trash tammy, she did phenomenal. Overall, it was a good experience but I cannot justify going in this economy. I spent over $300- between buying the tickets and the extremely overpriced food and drinks. Just please be aware and be prepared for that if you plan on going to. Love coming for the comedy show, hate paying the 20% service fee on top of the 2 item minimum. I've seen a ton of good comedians here and always have a great time. The servers and other employees are all very friendly from my experience. The food is overpriced and not that great, but I'm not coming here for the food. As long as the comedians are good, I'll keep coming here. The parking situation isn't the best but I usually can find street parking and the lot next door is usually free as long as there isn't a Sabres game. read more

Ok I just want to say I'm still having issues with the food here. I came this evening and had an amazing time, alcohol-free. I loved my Shirley temples lol ... and I wasn't going to even order food but I smelled someone with something that had buffalo sauce and caved and ordered the boneless Buffalo wings. I ate most and then I had a piece that just didn't taste right so I left the last 2 pieces on my plate. Well, now I'm not feeling too well if ya know what I mean lol (started about 4-5 hours after I ate them). So I gotta say ... still love coming here (laughed till I cried this evening - love seeing Aries Spears here twice now!), my waitress Morgan was wonderful and my non-alcoholic beverages were tasty but still just a big no on the food from me. i've literally never had a bad night here before, the servers do an amazing job given the fact that they have to run around a tiny space without disrupting the show. I don't know how they do, they're all so impressive. the only reason I can't give 5 stars right now is because just before seeing Patrick Warburton at 9:15 pm on Saturday, the foot traffic in between shows was so poorly managed. the reserved seating line was moved in front of an exit which was not blocked off so people kept walking practically on top of us to try to get out. I'm not sure why they didn't use the showroom exits; maybe they were instructed to and didn't listen but maybe there could be more signage or something indicating for them to go that way? or the reserved line could have moved more toward the Elements tables since it seemed they weren't in use? there wasn't anybody there to really guide folks on where to go which could have been helpful. unfortunately, security was kinda rude, the one guard wanted to see the number on the back of my ticket but didn't ask, just threw his arm in front of me and ripped it out of my hand after I had already shown the other guy. I don't think they need to get forceful, especially with women. even though those things could definitely be improved upon, this is one of the most fun spots in Buffalo, the ambiance is great and there's always a killer lineup of comics booked all through the year. read more

Helium is the main comedy club for Buffalo and it's a venue I truly have nothing good to say about. You're crammed like cattle into the bar area outside before the show and tables are so crowded that there's barely any room to move. Also on nearly every occasion I'm put at a table with other totally random people. Nothing against them but when I go out with my partner I expect to be with my partner not somebody else's and their whole group. The food and drinks are over priced and not worth it but you're quite literally forced to buy things when you go here which is really a bunch of crap. They have a two item minimum for every guest on top of the ticket price! Unfortunately there are no other options in the entire city for comedy shows basically so I guess it is what it is. The food is painfully average and 24 dollars for 3 sliders is just psychotic. Oh and BTW that's without fries or a side. That'll run you another 10 dollars. Parking is a bit of a pain in the cobblestone district but it is available but make sure to feed the meter as they collect until 10pm of course. I just find myself increasingly annoyed with this place with every visit. The staff are great but the prices for just everything are out of control. Most of the acts are people nobody has ever heard of and they're stlll charging 40 dollars a person plus fees. That's on top of the two item limit! Expect a minimum of nearly 150 for a night out here. I'll be back I guess but only because I don't have a choice....this is an absolute lesson in price gouging. It really is a shame because the comedians are almost always great it's just a shame that the venue has to be this bad. So no I don't recommend it and I wish somebody else would get an idea to open a comedy club and do the exact opposite of everything they do here so that I could never have ti come back here again. read more

I was here 17 days ago. My sister's boyfriend won four tickets to see Steve Rannazzisi. The whole night was great. The first two comedians were great!!! Steve was hilarious!!! I'm so glad that I attended the show that night. My friend an I also got a photo with him after the show: he signed a photo for me and I was able to chat with him for a minute!!! I was here on two other occasions. I had food on those occasions and it was good. The drinks are really good here. I hate that they have you squished in there. They put four people at a table for one or two. Maybe they could add larger tables and not squish so many people in there: they also shove you in the wait area, upon entering the building. I've been to Helium quite a few times since it opened. Ordering and getting tickets is a breeze. They have a packed schedule and bring in great acts. But I wish they'd get rid of the "two item minimum rule". Some folks do not drink and others come from having dinner. It's a bit much having to pay for an expensive bottle of water. And I had a bad experience last time I went where the guests next to us were rowdy to the point where I couldn't hear the act. Security gave them a warning and never came back. Verbal confrontations ensued between the trouble makers and other folks in the audience. A family member of mine emailed the club who replied that the guests in question were friends of the performer. Not sure why people paying to be there need to be punished for this? read more

Don't ever go here. It has become a SCAM. Especially the reserved tickets. I've been going to Helium 4+ times a year since 2013 and I will never be back. Reserved tickets used to be great - you were guaranteed a seat in the first two rows and the service was amazing. For the past several years it's just become a money grab. They sell as many reserved spots as they can, and you may end up sitting in the back of the room even though you paid extra. And they don't give a shit. If you ask to sit closer they will either pretend that they don't know how seating works (I kid you not) or they will tell you to just sit in whatever shitty seat they gave you and won't even look at you when they say it. Then the service is horrible. You have to wait 20 min for your required drink, which will absolutely not be the thing you ordered. When you bring it to the server's attention they will say it's correct as they are walking away cause they don't give a shit and then you have to wait another 20 min for them to come around again. This has happened multiple times over the past couple years. They don't give a shit about you, they only want all of your money. I will never be back read more

In need of some laughter in these troubled times of the COVID pandemic, some family and I came to Helium and saw standup comedy. For being my first time here, I had a pretty good time! I didn't realize Helium was so close to KeyBank center but, thankfully, it was a quiet Friday evening downtown so we were able to get there with practically no trouble. We parked in the HUGE lot right across the front door to Helium so that was very convenient! We walked right in and picked up our tickets and grabbed a beer at the bar in their restaurant, Elements, before we were seated. NOTE: When we received the confirmation email about our tickets, they made a big deal about wearing masks, etc., but when we arrived, practically no one had masks on and we didn't need them at our table! Now, I'd recommend keeping a mask handy, just in case things change... We caught a 7:30pm show so we were seated about 30 minutes before at a table about two table-lengths away from the small stage. We had a decent-sized crowd for an early show and it was neat to see some of the Traffic Tracker 2 folks from Channel 2 there! Our waitress was great and checked up on us at the right moments throughout the evening. Each of us ordered a few bottles of beer (I believe each person has to order two items...) since their draft beer system wasn't working. In my opinion, for six bottles of beer, I thought the total seemed to be on the higher-side, but meh, I'm not going to rant about it, just something to note. Also, they were only accepting credit cards when we were here. I enjoyed where we were seated though, it definitely put us in a prime spot to be "called out" during the show (but we weren't, so phew...). :) Overall, we had a good time at Helium! I'd come back again and catch another show here, for sure. I just hope they do a better job updating their policies and expectations in their confirmation email and that they get their draft beer system back up-and-running. read more

I have never ever had a problem with the servers or service, usually a young kid always super nice and smiling. THE BAD...don't get the draft beer. Just don't do it. I can't tell you the last time they cleaned their lines. It's horrible. I'm a huge draft beer guy and I know you're saying "why would you even think about it!" Well because their cans are usually equally warm as the draft so it's a lose lose and I don't drink hard liquor.... They need to clean them and turn down the temp cause man... I was here for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The club is a lot bigger inside than it looks. I paid for reserved sitting which did not put us right in front like I thought it would but we did get a booth seat which I preferred to the tiny tables. We ordered food- we split some nachos (queso was very good), husband had chicken fingers and fries and I had boneless wings. Food was decent but very overpriced for what it is, although portion size was good. I like that they add a gratuity so tipping isn't expected- more places should do this. It took a long time to put our order in since the place was packed but our waitress apologized and was more attentive to us for the rest of the night. Sound quality is good and facility is clean, including the bathrooms. We got parking across the street that was free. I would go again if another act came that I was interested in seeing. This club is out of it's mind with ticket prices and food costs. With just me and my partner with no alcoholic drinks and the 2 item minimum on top of ticket costs we were out almost $100. The service was the only good thing about this place. The staff is very friendly, effecent and mindful. If you like sitting in the middle seat of an airplane or heard the phase packed like a can of sardines this is the place for you. One of my husbands favorite comics was doing a show, so I got him tickets as a surprise. Mind you I have never been to a traditional "comedy club." Most comics I see have been at theaters or arenas. All and all the show was good we had a good time and I enjoyed the small venue with the close proximity to the stage. If you are going to a show, be prepared to drop at least $100, including cost of tickets with the outrageous service fees. There is a 2 item minimum PER PERSON. That's right per person, the the average item being about $10 each. Pro tip: don't eat beforehand,even at their restaurant or bar. Dinner or drinks at their restaurant and bar, does NOT count toward the minimum. The food was really mediocre at best, I would of taken a picture but when the food came out the comic was on stage so lighting was poor. Also, they have a sign that if you check in and write a review on Facebook, you get a free gift. I'm all about reviews and free gifts, so I was in. I showed the waitress my review and she said I needed to change it to include her name, and she had to watch me post it. Light bulb in my head..... I see what they are doing they are trying to encourage positive reviews, to increase their status. I still wanted my free stuff so I modified and posted. I got my free gift, so it was worth it. Overall this is a great place for a date night. They have a few odd rules but I still really enjoyed our evening here. I've been here twice now and really liked it both times. The last visit was to see Ilana Glazer this past Saturday. They asked up to show up at least an hour early or else our tickets were at risk to be re-released to the public. Odd but ok. So we showed up at 6pm for the 7pm show. The place gets packed quickly. We were hesitant to buy drinks at the bar as we knew we were required to make 2 purchases each inside the comedy show. So we kind of stool there looking weird until the doors opened. Inside the show area we were seated pretty close to the stage at a two person table. The waitress immediately took our drink order. We got 2 soft drinks and 2 apps. Everything was good. They are very well organized inside the showroom with seating and serving. No real complaints and we did have a really great evening! read more

Went there for the 1st time tonight. It was a late bday present from my sister. There were four of us, and we were seated at a Itty-bitty round table. Since there is a two purchase minimum per person, we all ordered a drink and food. The menu is small, as is the portion sizes. (If we ever go again, we will eat elsewhere and just order two drinks each). Once the food FINALLY came (all served in small baskets), it didn't all fit on the table. My brother in law actually had his on his lap. The food was mediocre, and chicken fingers tasted the same as I buy for the kids at home (Tyson). There were 3 in each basket, and they were small. One of us got the burger sliders with fries, but when it arrived, it came with pita chips. By the time the fries came out (which is an up cost), we were all done eating. The show, however, was what it's all about, and it was great. Thus, the four stars. So, to sum it up, if you plan on going, just know that you will be cramped. Went for the first time last night and absolutely had a blast! The show started right on time. I went to see Chris Kattan and he was hilarious! Both of the openers for him were funny as well! The staff was very friendly, quiet and discreet when the performances were going on. Food and drinks were pretty good. I got a featured pina colada shot and it was divine! I also got their sampler appetizer which came with a generous amount of food. The pulled pork sliders were good too but didn't have enough bbq sauce on it for my liking but that's just me being nit picky. My husband and I were excited to see Corey B at Helium on 12/21/24. This was my first time at the Club and I was super excited! We were greeted and seated as soon as we arrived. The place was clean and inviting. That is about as good as it got for the rest of the night, as far as the Club is concerned. We sat and waited to be addressed by a server. After 15 minutes I approached a server who was leaning against the wall and asked him how long it normally takes to be attended to and was told 5 minutes. I asked him to please find our server because we were waiting for a while. The tables near us that we sat after us were being served and still no one came to our table. After waiting another 10 minutes I walked up to the gentlemen at the front seating everyone and again asked for our server. It took over 35 minutes for anyone to come to our table. Once our server came she said that she didn't know she had our table. As a former server I could tell that was untrue based on the tables she was serving. It was very obvious how the tables were split between servers. We spent $90 in food and a couple of drinks- we had to call her over to order refills on our drinks! Good thing you charge 18% automatically because we did NOT leave a tip! To say we were not impressed is an understatement. I was hoping for a better experience and was seriously disappointed. Helium gets away with overcharging for drinks, service, and "administrative" fees because they are the only comedy club in town that gets national acts. How is this not a greedy shakedown on their customers? - Handling fee when buying tickets through the website, typically a $6 charge per ticket. I have to imagine that the website has been paid off a long time ago, so what is that money going towards? - Overpriced sodas, water, tea and of course alcohol with a two item minimum no matter what show you go to. Food is ok, but is now served in wasteful to-go boxes. Hardly an upscale experience for the cost. - ANOTHER 18% administrative fee on your bill for anything you order on the two item minimum you're forced to buy - WHY? Where is this money going? Why are the ticket prices not inclusive of that fee? After a show you just feel dirty for all the money they've taken you for throughout the night between tickets, drinks, food, and the additional administrative fee. Love the acts and the atmosphere, but the greed by the owners Is really sad and disappointing. read more
