I came here looking for an excellent pair of walking shoes. I was greeted promptly and had a quick look around. I wanted to check my arches etc. and stood on a really cool machine. We found a proper insert and then went to work finding the right shoe. After several misses we landed on a pair of Hoka that fit my thinner feet just right. We added the insert and it was instant love. The lovely lady that helped me even brought them in my favorite purple color. I bought them and the inserts and am very pleased. I have been a loyal Footwear Etc. customer for over 10 years. I started frequenting their Los Altos store after their Palo Alto store closed. I am still wearing shoes I bought from them 10 years ago since their shoe quality is that good! This location has a good selection of durable, comfortable, and stylish shoes as well as accessories like insoles, socks, shoe cleaner, purses, etc. Customer service here is always excellent. Having gotten accustomed to shopping for and buying shoes online, it is refreshing to find an honest-to-goodness old-school shoe store where you can try on different brands to see how well they fit your foot, your gait, etc. They also offer accessories (insoles, for example). Over a year ago I hobbled into this store in desperation looking for a good shoe to ease my plantar fasciitis pain. Kevin took care of me and introduced me to my first pair of Hoka shoes. What an incredible difference wearing Hoka shoes make!!!!Today I went back and Kevin helped me again, and I came home with 3 pairs of new Hoka's and a pair of Wooloomooloo slip on shoes. If you are like me and do not enjoy shoe shopping, I highly recommend this store! They will fit you and advise you on what will best suit your needs with zero pressure. Excellent customer service that exceeded my expectations. Erin is friendly and attentive. I had been looking for the style of these sandals for a long time that matched the pair that had worn out. I decided to look at Footwear, Etc. online, and to my surprise I found Earth Sassy sandals on sale. Footwear, Etc. is so honest. The company noticed slight fading on one shoe, and Erin sent me a photo, and if I bought the shoes would discount the shoes by an extra $10. Sending the shoes to the Cupertino location was no problem. At the Cupertino store, Caesar took off the shoes I was wearing and put the new shoes on, adjusting the laces. I did not have to lift a finger. All in all, quality shoes and excellent customer service. read more

My husband and I went into the local store as I knew we needed a good pair of walking shoes as we were going on a tour around the British Isles. My husband hadn't had his feet properly sized in years (he's 74). We got Kevin, a fantastic employee to help us. He spent over 30 minutes with us and measured our feet AND watched us walk with a number of different shoes on! Turns out one of my husbands feet was a size larger than the other! And my arches had fallen a little and I needed half a size larger. (I'm 72). We bought some great Hoka's and my husband got an insert for his that will help with 1 flat foot and 1 high arch! UPDATE: I got a wonderful response from the store that returns my faith in Footwear, etc. I'm changing this rating to reflect the way the store treats its customers. We'll chalk this one up to those occasional mistakes we all make. Original: Normally, I am a big fan of this Footwear, etc. But... we bought a pair of Tempur-Pedic slippers about 3-4 months ago, and they started falling apart. I took them back to the store, not sure what I was expecting, but what I *wasn't* expecting was... The salesperson looked at them and shrugged. He suggested I go to the Tempur-Pedic web site. When I asked if the store could help in any way, he shrugged again, and said "not really for such a low end product." I'm sorry, but I don't consider $80 slippers to be low end anything. With this kind of customer service, I might as well shop on-line. I certainly hope this is an anomaly. Everyone can make a mistake or two. Let's consider this the first one. read more

This is my favorite shoe store. They have all of the brands that actually make my feet feel good: Merrill, Dansko, Naot. But what's different about this place is the people who work there really understand their shoes and can make all sorts of useful recommendations. My feet are wide across the toes, but slender in the heel, and they know exactly which shoes will work. Plus they were really nice about me still deciding which shoes to buy as they were closing today! read more

Last week, I visited the store for the first time (I had to get a pair of Hoka shoes for my Plantar Fasciitis). The woman who helped me (she has been there 16 years) was very knowledgeable and helpful. I went back yesterday because I had a issue with one shoe rubbing 2 of my toes. This store is great!! If parking were easier, rating would easily, be 5 stars - lets compromise - 4 1/2 stars. Her Ladyship is a fan too : ) Warning, this is not a discount, payless type shoe store. Not all the shoes are particularly stylish, but it will be a long time, before you need to replace a pair of shoes, purchased here. Always found the service to be superb. I like it, that I also, never felt "hounded" here. "She who MUST BE obeyed," has a bit of a problem finding shoes that fit hee properly. So, she shops here frequently. Selection is not huge, but pretty good, geared a little bit more for the ladies, but guys are well represented, and well served. Prices are on the cheap side, for the quality. read more

I've been here 3 times now, and if I'm in the neighborhood and in need of supportive shoes, I'll be back. The first time I visited, I was browsing, and nobody came to help me. I waited a few minutes, but the sales people were were more preoccupied with the older customers (I'm in my early 30s). Understandable, since most of their female shoes do cater to the older population, but I walked out without being helped. My second and third times in the store were much more positive. A sales woman helped me right away. I was trying to find sandals for summer that were flat, with support, but also cute (and not so old-persony looking). I had a back injury that doesn't allow me to wear the cute heals anymore, so finding this store (Footwear, Etc - not just this location) has been a saving grace for me. I found 3 pairs of really cute sandals! So I'm all set for summer, now. My third trip there was because I discovered I bought one pair a size too big. The same sales person helped me, was really friendly, and exchanged the sandals I purchased for the next size down (after I tried them on), no questions asked. (I did, of course, provide the receipt.) They have a pretty good selection of women's styles here, and the sales people I interacted with on my 2nd and 3rd visits were really great. One morning, I woke with gout and the podiatrist recommended Footwear for the insoles. I had gone in before as I thought the shoes were too expensive. After trying a pair of walking shoes, I buy all my shoes from Footwear from dress to causal. For their casual shoes, I feel like my feet are wrapped in marshmallow and filled with air. I have purchased several pairs of shoes from various Footwear Etc locations. I appreciate the quality of their shoes and, in the past, the excellent service. However, my latest visit was very disappointing. I described what I was looking for and the salesperson showed me a couple of styles of Mephisto shoes (definitely one of the most expensive brands in the store). That was ALL he could recommend in the whole store. On my own, I found a couple of others that were possibilities. It was like pulling teeth to get his help at all. Maybe I didn't look like I was going to buy, but I expect more thoughtful service, better suggestions. So disappointed. read more

I have been a customer at this Los Altos location for several years and usually find exactly what I want and need. The fellow that helps me often is named Kevin and he is excellent. He is very patient, willing to show me many shoes and as I am rather hard to fit with foot problems, he seems to know what will work and what might not. I am always happy to see him when I go in and usually wait for him to help me. The selection of shoes is good and they are willing to find you a needed size. This review is primarily focused on the salesperson Isella, who works at a few "Footwear etc." locations. However, most of my business with her took place at the Los Altos location, so that accounts for this review being under the Los Altos listing. Wearing shoes that had been too tight around my toes finally took its toll on my feet, and my podiatrist recommended Footwear etc. Since I live closest to the Palo Alto store, I started there. I found Isella to be very knowledgeable and accommodating, and her approach was completely "no pressure," which I greatly appreciated. For my knock-around/workout shoes, we found a pair of New Balance sneakers that work very well with the insoles that she also recommended. (I should have been wearing insoles a long time ago. Thanks, Isella!) When a pair of Danskos and Vionics turned out to be too narrow, she ordered wider versions that worked out much better. (By then, I had begun coming to the Los Altos store because it was easier for me to work with her at that store over the weekends than trying to get to her at the Palo Alto store on a weekday before closing.) And when we were unable to find dress shoes in my size, which is difficult because I wear a small men's size that also needs to be wide, Isella helpfully suggested other retailers that might provide a wider (so to speak) selection. That suggestion was not lost on me, and it provided further proof to me that Isella places the customer first. So even if I do find those dress shoes elsewhere, I'll still be coming back to Footwear etc. Oh, and last but not least, when I mentioned to Isella that I was planning to buy a couple more pairs of insoles, she let me know that if I could find them for a lower price elsewhere (i.e., online), the store would adjust their price to match the other lower price. In addition to the overall superb customer service, that was just icing on the cake. :-) read more
