I came in earlier this year to fix the bottoms of some vintage Ferragamo's and was very satisfied with the job and how they fixed up the velvet exterior as well - plus, I forgot to mention when I dropped them off that I wouldn't be able to pick them up and they shipped it too me no problem (obviously I paid a fee for it but duh). I have so many of my grandma's vintage shoes to bring in and know that I can trust them to do a great job on every single pair. Is it expensive? Yes, a bit. But are you paying for skill? Absolutely. The guy that helped me out seemed very annoyed that I needed help. I felt like i was being rushed to tell them what I needed. Whatever product they used or method they used it changed the color of the leather. It made them way darker in certain part of the boot very inconsistent. You can see in the pictures the different shades in the leather. It gives the impression that only one part of the boot was cleaned. I wish they would have giving me a quick run down of what they were going to do to the boots. Not cool walking around with half tan half brown boots. They charged $35 for this color scheme. They messed up my Thorogood boots. Not a cheap boot. I don't recommend this place. There another Cobbler in town that did my other work boots for half the price and they didn't change the color on the leather. STAY AWAY. read more

I have a love for all things vintage which naturally brings me here. Found a pair of darling leather cowboy boots with ornate details that needed some tlc since the heel was detached. Also brought in a pair of white kitten heals that needed some repair. Both pairs were ready to pick up in just a few days just in time for my trip. I planned to wear the cowboy boots for a concert in La. The kitten heels held up well and looked good as new. Unfortunately the heel of the boot fell off the first day I wore them and I was counting on wearing them for the show. They lasted through the airport but as soon as I hit the cement sidewalks of West Hollywood my heel detached. I live locally and cal ave is easily accessible. The service is fairly priced and the shop itself has some cool unique items. They also have polishing services so I may try that in the near future. Only complaint would be that the boot did not hold up. I had to resort to guerilla glue for a fast fix. Also pro tip, hold on to your tags bc they have so many shoes in the shop it can be a challenge to locate what you've dropped off without it. (Btw I lost my tag) so I would know but they were able to quickly locate my shoes despite my misplacement of the tag. read more

I want to say that I support our local businesses and that I'm really sad I have to wrote this review. I brought my bag in for a closure repair and was quoted $45. I asked if they could also clean it, and they said "of course," without ever mentioning that it would cost extra. When I came to pick up the bag two weeks later, I had to wait 20 minutes while they rushed to clean it on the spot. The repair also wasn't complete because a part was missing, but I was never notified. At pickup, the staff suddenly told me the total was $85, including a $40 cleaning fee I never agreed to. When I questioned the extra charges, they offered to reduce the price to $65 and asked what I thought about the repair and cleaning. I explained the repair wasn't finished and that I was unhappy with the rushed cleaning. In the end, the staff became upset and told me to leave without paying. Overall, my experience was unprofessional and frustrating--poor communication and unexpected costs. read more

I really wanted to support a local cobbler, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. I brought in a pair of shoes to be repaired, and they told me they would fix them. However, when I went to pick them up, it was clear that almost nothing had been done. What's frustrating is that no one mentioned at the time of pickup that they weren't really able to make the repairs--it appeared that they just handed me the shoes without any changes and charged me. I would have appreciated some transparency. If the repairs weren't possible or would only be minor, I wish they had told me that upfront or at least when I came back. Same day shoe repair on water damaged / salt damaged pair of loafers. Came out quite well, not perfect, but good for the money and timing.

There was a loop on the back of one of the shoes that tore the first time my husband put it on. It was perhaps a few stitches. They charged $18 for that. So I think the prices are too steep for me. I had a pair of shoes that needed to be re-soled and I took them to Amparo's in Redwood City and paid $45 to get two shoes re-soled. I hate to think what it would have cost at the Cobblery read more

My feet and gait cause the heels of my shoes to wear out unevenly. I've gotten two pairs of shoes re-heeled at The Cobblery. Their service is skillful and efficient. In my experience, they've been able to complete the job in 4 days. Birkenstock Sandals - I had almost worn out the heel of the sandal until the cork portion was exposed to the ground. The Cobblery replaced the heel section only and treated the cork to re-seal it. I got to wear this pair of Birks for another summer instead of having to buy a brand new pair. Yay for repairing rather than re-purchasing to replace! Ankle Boots - They glued in a new heel panel onto each boot and shined and polished the leather. I'll continue to trust The Cobblery for my leather items and shoe repairs. It also makes me happy to get to continue supporting this friendly small business. read more

Used to be good, but things changed recently. After very unpleasant experiences and very mediocre jobs, I had to go somewhere else. They messed up my order twice, and probably overcharged me. I feel the jobs were rushed, and they didn't care much. If you do go to them, pls double check if they marked your ticket correctly. (I was quite unhappy when I received my shoes but I didn't want to be mean) It's good to support local business, but I won't be back. They've been there for many years for a reason! Rarely do I need specialty shoe or garment repair, but The Cobblery is my go-to place when I do. One of my motorcycle boot's stitching had come unraveled and I really didn't want to start shopping for a new pair, since these have broken in perfectly and the soles were still at 50%+. Good motorcycle boots aren't cheap either. I figured that this would be a pretty easy fix for the Cobblery and I was right. I dropped off on a Tuesday and picked up on that Friday. The repairs were done perfectly and you can't even tell they were ever damaged. And the bill was only $15! The staff are very professional, friendly and they do great work. Last time I was there they replaced a zipper on a favorite motorcycle jacket for me. That was many years ago and I still wear that jacket today, and the zipper works flawlessly. So as usual I used yelp and that was a best decision. Recently bought a channel belt from Nordstrom ,but unfortunately due to lost of weight , it was not fit properly. Find the Cobblery from yelp and bingo that was a right place to come down from east bay. The guy who answered the phone was truly nice and as walked into the store and gave him the reminder that I came for my new belt ,with no hesitation he grabbed , fix and I have been charged in less than 5 minutes. I've passed by The Cobblery multiple times as I wine and dine along California Avenue in Palo Alto. They feature comfortable, well-made shoes and hats. During the summer, they had a sidewalk display of wide-brimmed hats, and I honed in on a straw hat with an elastic brim to keep the hat on your head. It was reasonably priced at $35 and I was quite pleased with my purchase since California summers are no joke and I've been looking for alternatives to having to slather on the sunscreen multiple times a day. But when I brought it home, the stitching on the elastic brim immediately started to fray and the elastic became detached from the straw brim. I called The Cobblery, and they told me I could definitely return the hat and they would try to repair it. The return process was easy-peasy, and they were nice enough to take down my phone number and offered to call me if they were able to repair it, since I expressed interest in purchasing the hat if it was repaired. They did call me a week later, and I was able to purchase the hat again. A+ customer service! (I should also add, they resole shoes and repair/restore other leathergoods!) read more

There is no other place to go unless you just want to pay for a bad job and then need to go here for them to fix it. They can really do everything. I had a pair of show boots they stretched out. I had a Helmut Lang purse they told me the handle couldn't be reattached and they turned it into a clutch for me. I've been going here for so long, like at least 15 years. They never let you down. For the uptown girl, they can even put a red sole with traction on the bottom of your Louboutin's (the correct shade of red!). I know a woman who who does it to all of her pairs, lol. I personally don't know how anyone else can walk around in life with 5 inch + heels and no traction... Well, you don't need to live your life that way! They have all of the cute socks, cashmere, wool, compression... All the fancy socks. They have all kinds of cute stuff in there. I have a cute blanket I bought 10 years ago... I have a tyvek wallet I like... I have the cutest pair of Swedish clogs I got 15 years ago and I still wear them. Sooo cute, I feel certain no one else carries them, I've certainly never seen them and I have shopped in my day. They have all the stylish shoes that are comfortable. They had Camper before it was carried mainstream. They have all sorts of stuff to make your shoes more comfortable. I can't say enough nice things. I drive a half hour from Burlingame to get stuff done. They always have stuff on sale. A true staple and a Palo Alto institution, if you ask me. read more

When Wikes Bashford sends their men's/ woman's shoes, belts etc to the Cobblery their is a reason. Yup. Quality. I've always been very pleased with their work. A1. So when I accidentally stained my loafer with oil I immediately brought them to the Cobblery. I really thought there was no hope given the oil penetrated the leather and left a 1 1/2 irregular circle on my shoe. I learned they had a new process that worked most times ( no guarantees) on these type stains. It would take about two weeks since there was a specific process required. The charge is $45. A ridiculously inexpensive solution especially if your shoes are in good condition otherwise when you bring them in. Based on the price of the shoes it felt more like a shoe shine price to save them. Long story short// it worked (see pic). I love these folks and highly suggest you use them for anything that needs refurbishing. It will look new when they're done! read more

I did not have a great experience with this shop. I will relate what happened and you can make up your own mind as to whether or not you will trust them with your footwear. I have a pair of shell cordovan Alden boots and the tongue in one of the boots would slide to the side while wearing. I brought them into the shop, and the cobbler suggested that they could put a couple of stitches through the tongue and the upper to hold it in place. He assured me that they would pass the needle through existing holes in the upper so that it wouldn't even be visible. I tried the shoes on and he carefully measured where the tongue should sit, which is important since I lace the boots up pretty tight. I felt great about it. I came back the next day, at the agreed upon time. The shoes weren't quite ready, so they did the repair while I waited. A different cobbler in the shop did the work. You can see in the photos what they actually did. They used a different color thread, punched all new holes, and marred the upper with the foot of the sewing machine. The tongue was also way off center relative to what we agreed. They did both boots for me, and on the right boot, the tongue wasn't even stretched out so that it would lie flat. They didn't even bother to trim the thread before handing the boots back to me! In response to the damage to the upper, the cobbler complained that if he didn't use the machine, it would take too long, and that Alden uses a machine too. Well their machine doesn't mar the upper! He also claimed that he did reuse the holes because the new holes that he punched were close to the existing ones. He offered to redo the job, but there was no way I was going to let them do more work on my boots. I asked him to remove the stitching and give me the boots back, which he did. The cobbler was somewhat indignant about how upset I was about the damage. When I announced my intention to leave a negative review, he gave me my money back. My view is that the shop did not do at all what they promised and damaged a $900 pair of boots. The whole thing was very unprofessional. I certainly will not be trusting them to work on anything valuable in the future. read more

Recently I destroyed my light pink suede Jimmy Choo pumps by packing them in a bag with a bottle of hairspray. I was extremely gutted since there is no hiding the stains (see before picture). The timing of my accident was not ideal since I was going out of town for a month, so I delayed having them cleaned (making it harder to get the stain out). When I brought them into the store, I asked to see if they could clean the shoes, but honestly, I didn't expect them to be able to do anything. A week after dropping off my shoes, I went back and they were so apologetic about not being able to get the stains out despite trying to multiple times. At this point, they suggested that I dye the shoe black. Since I already had a pair of black suede pumps, I asked if they could try for navy. They said they couldn't guarantee that the navy would come out the way I would want and it might come out very close to black, but I said it was fine at least we tried. When I finally came to pick up my dyed shoes, I was so impressed with how they turned out! The navy is beautiful and my shoes don't look destroyed at all. They gave a new life to my most comfortable pumps and I'm falling in love with them again in a different way. The staff were so friendly and helpful during this process and really wanted to find a solution that would work for me while being realistic. Even though they did 2 steps: cleaning then dying, they only charged me for the dying of the shoe. I'm not sure how much the cleaning would have cost, but the cost of the dying was extremely reasonable, especially given how pleased I am with the results. I will not hesitate to bring back any pair of shoes for repair here! I'm sad that I had to discover this store because of my carelessness, but I am really happy to find such a great cobbler in the area. read more

I brought in a Louis Vuitton pouch with 2 broken zippers, the main zipper at top and a zipper on an external front pocket. I gave them the two original LV gold zipper pulls to place on the repaired zippers. They replaced the gold zippers with brown zippers and did not place the LV zipper pulls, which wouldn't have matched the brown cheap looking zippers anyway. I had also dropped off a Chanel wallet with a missing zipper pull on the outside, I had bought a gold Chanel charm for them to place as the zipper pull. They gave it back to me with a gold rectangular zipper pull on it. Very, very disappointed. I paid $325 (I think they quoted $250 when I brought the items in) and did not get quality work or the work I asked for. Never again. read more

When I picked up my item and asked how much I owe, the guy behind the counter said $30 and in turn I said "I thought it was $25". He looked at the ticket and said, "$25 you're right". Completely ruined my Gun Metal shoes by Jessica Simpson, and ridiculed my intelligence in the process. I took the shoes in for new heel stoppers and elastics, and they irreparably broke the focal point detail of the shoe and Stephanee (one of the owners), would not reimburse me the repair fee ($45.00), and I didn't even asked them to replace the cost of the shoe- when I could have. She kept saying that I had not noticed this damage, that the shoes are old and have wear and tear. This is not wear and tear. This is an obvious one time damage - they were simply not careful w the shoe detail. Further, had in reality the shoe been so badly damaged when I dropped it off for repairs, why would they not upsell me on an obvious fix that was worse than what I was taking the shoe in for? They are are the "experts" that have been there since 1940, why would they not point out such a blatant damage ? Completely unprofessional behavior- plain lying. No emotional intelligence whatsoever in dealing with conflict and customers. And no process in place to an issue they say "often happens to them" (apparently customers are a pain in their butt). They may have survived since 1940, but welcome to the Era of Yelp. Customers will not be pushed around, lied to or mistreated. Shape up or ship out. read more
