I purchased a touring bike there 14 months ago. Just before a multi-month bike trip the inspection revealed that my rear rims were cracked due to manufacturing defect. The manufacturer did not have a replacement wheel ready in time for my trip. They ended up sending a replacement rim to the store instead. The bicycle outfitter guys then built up the wheel and replaced it on my bike for free. This was above and beyond what I was expecting, so many kudos for great service. read more

I bought my first road bike at this place (Trek Domane) and have pretty much upgraded every single component on it apart from the original frame, Ship of Theseus-style (entire drivetrain, handlebars, stem, saddle, wheelset, tires, tubes etc.). Throughout it all, I have kept coming back to this shop even though it's a bit of a ways away from me because they have always been honest and straight with the things I needed and didn't, never tried to upsell me, never treated me like a novice asking all sorts of dumb questions (even though I clearly was/am still a newb at cycling), and were perfectly happy to advise against and simultaneously still entertain my ridiculous upgrade requests regardless of whether I bought my parts from them or myself. Very happy with their work both in sales and service and will keep coming to them as long as they stay in business with the same great folks! read more

Great experience overall, love that there's a local cycle shop with friendly, knowledgeable people and good inventory on hand. I ordered some mineral oil online to bleed my brakes. It was really easy to order online and pick up from the shop (ready same day). They were really efficient and friendly during pickup and didn't give me a hard time that I was trying to do my own maintenance (yes, some shops are a bit snobby about this). I even joked that they may see me in there for a brake bleeding job if it goes poorly which I appreciated. I ordered a large container given several of us will be bleeding the brakes, but I appreciate the caution he gave me about storing the mineral oil and making sure air didn't get in it. This is a great neighborhood shop, and I'm happy to support them! There's also a ton of parking which makes me like them even more. read more

Best bike shop I have ever been to. I have extremely limited knowledge, they were kind enough to inspect my bike right when I brought it in, notified me that it's just an elongated chain, swapped the chain on the spot, and only charged me for the chain. I'm new to the area and they then offered to lend me a local trail book and just asked that I bring it back. No upselling, very honest and kind work. Can not recommend enough. read more

It's time for another big shout out to TBO: two weeks in a row I had bike needs that only the professional techs at TBO could fulfill. Week 1: showed up with bleeding knuckles after a failed struggle to get drive-side pedal off. It took two techs with their gigantic wrenches to get that sucker off. YAY TBO!!! Week 2: rear (powered) derailleur sluggish moving to smaller cogs from the two biggest. A super TBO tech did adjustments and I was off on my ride. These guys are the best. Unlike other shops that try to sell you something, the crew at Outfitter is "old school" and focused on helping the customer without any purchase pressure. They also really understand bikes (and bike fitting) and will take the time to explain all the relevant factors to you. If you want a great customer experience, these guys are the best. I particularly want to mention Johnny (who helped me choose the right bike and made sure it was set up right based on my specific requirements) and Chris, who is a PhD in fitting - whose patient explanations of the critical factors helped me improve my form and experience, not only on the bike he fitted me but on other bikes at home as well. read more

A nice bike shop with a great selection of bikes, gear, and miscellaneous accessories. I came here mid-ride once to check it out (it was right along my route to hop onto Foothill Expressway weeee). Jesus helped me with test riding and talking shop about bike fitting for a new road bike. I was 1000% pleased by the customer service and knowledge of the team out here. Since I was mid-ride, I was not entirely ready to make a commitment to a new road bike, but I definitely did not feel any pressure to buy or do anything of that sort. I'm writing to recommend the fitting services of Chris Norris, although he tells me he's so busy doing fittings he's not exactly wanting more business! I am a casual bicyclist in my 60s, and went in to get my road bike position adjusted. I don't use cleats/cycling shoes, my bicycle is over 10 years old, and my preferred position is fairly upright. I wanted to be more comfortable on my bike, but was concerned a fitter might try to have me in a much more athletic position (low handlebars etc.). I needn't have worried, Chris adjusted my saddle height and position, changed the tilt of the handlebars, and suggested actually raising the handlebars and moving them slightly closer with a different stem. A+ experience, and Chris is highly recommended. read more

My brakes were squeaking when I was riding down hills so I took my bike to the bicycle outfitter for a service. When I got there they put it on the stand and promptly advised me- "you don't actually need a service for this, I can see your back brake is just misaligned" he quickly adjusted it and told me to ride it around the block. Less than 30 seconds. Worked perfectly and he said to just come back when I need a real service but the adjustment was on the house. That kind of good neighbor help to advise you on what you need and not overcharge you by doing work that isn't needed meant instead of leaving my bike there and getting it back next week, I got to ride home saving time and on a safer ride. If you need any bike parts, a new bike, gear, or a service their team is friendly and I'm so glad we have this local store that makes keeping your bike riding well easy. If you ride your bike so often that it feels like part of your body, you'll know when it needs some TLC to make it feel new again. That's how I felt when I brought my nine-year-old carbon fiber Trek Silque into Bicycle Outfitters yesterday. They have fixed it several times over the years, and each time they do, they make it feel even better than it did the day I bought it. This time I had many worn parts that needed replacement. Hollister took it in, and he knows his job so well that he immediately figured out what the problems were, found parts to fix them, and gave me a fair estimate. I knew it was a big job, so I wasn't surprised that it would take him a couple of days. But he was able to get the job done by the next day. I was so happy that I left a $20 tip, and I was even happier after I took a ride when I got home. That nine-year-old bike feels like it is flying now, and it's also much more comfortable to ride it. Hollister isn't the only great technician at Outfitters. When Cognition Cyclery closed in Mountain View, their best mechanic Ryan, who completely renovated my Shimano bike components, moved to Outfitters. In short, this bike shop has the technical wizardry you need if you love your bike. It's worth taking a trip to Los Altos - and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a bike their either. I went in a few weeks ago to ask questions about my wheelchair tires, Hollister answered all of them and told me to come back when I got my new tires, and they'd be happy to change them. We went back today and even though it was complicated, Hollister and Andrew were awesome... checking on the new tires, figuring out how to get my old solid ones off, and making sure I was happy with my new ones. It's nice to see a bike shop that still carries a good selection of accessories. You have a better shot at being able to source stuff locally here than at many of the other bike shops around IMO. They are always staffed up well to help you when you enter and it appears that they have a pretty stout service wing although being a DIY'r I have not required service. There is always a customer over there at the counter being helped. Their bike selection appears to be a good mix of mid to high quality bikes. Their name and logo reminds me a bit of the 70's bicycle renaissance that took place back then and the location is an inspiration as you pass by it to the on-ramp to the Valley's premier bicycle boulevard, Foothill Expressway. read more

The repair shop is outstanding. They go beyond even the service that you would expect from a high-end bike shop.

My wheel was woobly. Since I bought it at bicycle outfitter, I brought it to the mechanic shop for them to take a look. The mechanic checked the truing. He told me the wheel was straight, and so that it didn't have a problem. I told him that even if the wheel was trued, it was still woobly. Neither my tone or attitude was agressive, but somehow, he became upset and irritated and told me that without the bike, he couldn't tell me what was wrong. This was weird, but ok. I come back with the bike. Another mechanic approaches me, and I start telling him that my wheel is woobly. The first mechanic interrupts, and tells him: why don't you take the bike, and pretend to fix something, because if you talk with him, it will take you half on hour. This was rude and uncalled for, since I had talked less than two minutes with him the first time. All I did was telling him (once) that even if straight the wheel was woobly. They ended up asking me 20$ for brake adjustment, which I didn't ask and didn't need. It's bad enough that you don't want to provide service, but requiring me to pay for a service I didn't need or ask just adds insults to injury. I am surprised because in the past I had been happy with the service and products of this shop. But apparently, you should never insist that gears have a problem otherwise they will (literally) make you pay for it. PS: it took one minute for the mechanic at another shop to figure out the probem (the bearings were loose). So no, it would not have taken half an hour talking with me. All was needed was to look at the hub to figure out what was wrong. ~ read more

I've done several century rides, several full Ironman races, many bike to work rides, and I can put together a bike. However, I just need a good bike fitting. Called about a partial bike fitting. The lady on the phone sounded rude, annoyed, and just had that old timer mentality vibe. Just wasn't welcoming or nice. Teaching a friend to ride a bike so I thought tandem biking would be a fun way to get them used to pedaling and moving with a bit more speed. The bicycle outfitters staff were helpful in explaining how to ride tandem vs regular bike, adjusting one to accommodate both of our heights, and were very enthusiastic about our mission..cute! I've purchased three bikes here and had a fourth one built by their service department. I regularly bring our bikes for any repairs (I have two teenage boys, so we're regulars) and am never disappointed. Today Andrew and Victor helped me out. They diagnosed a problem this afternoon that I never would have found (I spent hours googling it) and if not for their resolution the bike would have been unsafe to ride. A neighborhood corner store induces a feeling of nostalgia mixed with a casual desire to make money. The two guys behind the counter bantering about how many jay walkers are going to get run over by cars because the city won't add a stop light. The bearded man diligently working on a bicycle, which possibly cost thousands. All of this house in an aging strip mall with a broad selection of everything you might need for your road, mountain and electric bi-wheeled mode of transport. The folks who helped me seemed to know a lot about cycling and answer questions about the most minute details of my needs for a bike and accessories. They pull from their own experiences which strengthens their credibility. This is the opposite of what you get from walking into a big box store with a corporate curated experience or trying to buy something online unseen. The experience is worth supporting the neighborhood corner store. read more

Because we didn't finish the fitting that day, I left my bike shoes and socks there overnight. When I came back, they lost my socks! I bought a fix kit online but the damage is too bad and I can't fix it by myself. I searched online on Apple Maps and saw the good reviews for this business. I called to a schedule a stop by. I wanted to give my wife's old Trek mountain bike to my daughter as a gift. It had been sitting in our shed since her birth 9 years ago (raising rambunctious kids somehow made us forget all about cycling) and looked pretty sad. I called up The Bicycle Outfitter to see if they could get it back into good shape, and spoke with Ken. Ken told me that a basic tuneup started at $125, and there was a lengthy backup in service because of Covid-19. However, Ken thought that from my description the bike may only need some TLC, which would cost considerably less. He told me to bring it in before closing at 5:00 and he may be able to service it himself. I rushed in right at 5:00, still in my hospital scrubs, but unfortunately Ken had left for the day. However, Justin stepped right in to see if he could help. He hoisted the bike up on the stand and did a careful inspection of the parts, checked all the moving components, did some cleaning of the chains, inflated the tires and then gave me even better news - he felt that the bike only needed me to give it a good washing and lubrication, and it would be as good as new. He then took the time to tell me in detail what I needed to do. I left the store feeling great. Final cost for all this - $0! I am not used to seeing service from a business where at each step of my interaction, the cost is lowered rather than raised, until the final cost is zero! This speaks to the INTEGRITY of the business and its employees. It also makes for a good story to tell my buddies, which may help to improve their business (not that they need it!). Thanks again, Justin & Ken! Giving you guys and The Bicycle Outfitter a shout-out is the least I can do. read more

My wife and I came here to purchase a bike (first time fyi) and not only were they super helpful but they didn't push us to buy more than we wanted and they went way out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable during the whole experience. Ash was super patient and very helpful when picking out necessary items for our bike. And wow... David... when we found out something didn't quite work for us David went way out of his way to be super helpful to get us what we needed with absolutely no hassle. They did a great job on my bike tune up! They were fast friendly and affordable. I would use them again.

I emailed the store after hours to find out if they are familiar with Speedplay pedals and cleats, and got a response almost immediately from the manager, Dave. He told me that they are and that I should contact Chris. I called the next day and made an appointment with him. They were very busy when I got there on a Sunday afternoon. I waited outside due to Covid, but 2 employees came out at 2 different times to let me know that Chris knew I was waiting and to thank me for waiting. When I got in to see Chris, he was knowledgeable and helpful. I had shoes that work with the Speedplay cleats/pedals but wanted to see if they might have a better or more comfortable pair. Chris brought me several pairs to try on, and I decided to stick with the ones I already had. Even though I bought nothing from them, Chris installed my cleats on my shoes and didn't charge me anything for it! Everyone I interacted with was friendly and helpful even though they were overrun with customers. I will definitely be back for any other bicycle related needs. read more
