I have been going there for years and never a problem until this time. Dr Hillman (5 Stars) however, his front receptionist is not very welcoming to say the least and Kathy who did my ordering screwed BOTH pairs of my prescription sunglasses up. BOTH were ordered with clear lenses when they were to be tinted dark for sunglasses. Took over 3-4 weeks for them to come in and still waiting. I will say I had a terrible time trying to deal with the people at For Eyes Real shame I had went there to get my glasses adjusted and they wanted me to sign a waiver which I thought was weird because I had my glasses adjusted multiple times there and never needed to before. The lady Mattie said there is always a risk when we adjust glasses. Well she does not know what she was doing at all. She tightened a screw which wasn't loose so tight it snapped my glasses. They were just slightly crooked so I have no idea why she thought oh that screw was the problem. She broke it told me you knew the risk. I didn't know she was going to be so rough with them and break them. She said a slight risk. If she would have told me "hey I think there is a high chance of these breaking if I do anything to them" I would have said ok don't touch them. And guess what no other glasses store gets you to sign a waiver to adjust glasses. Costco does not and vision works does not, so never sign a waiver at For Eyes that means they will break your glasses so you have to buy new glasses. The assistant Manager was trying to help me right when it happened but a month and a half later when I could get a eye exam so I could get a new pair she tells me the manager might be able to help you. Well it was terrible dealing with the manager she was on emergency leave, when they broke my glasses and tells me "yeah I take days off" I go no you were gone for a week on some emergency leave. They said the best they could do is give me 30% off a new pair of frames. That is terrible and they could have just told me on the phone that is all they could do. Instead I show up in person to be told 30% is the best we can do for the situation. They find my insurance but then can not apply it, to tell me how much for lens in their system. I don't know what kind of joke this is. Wasting my time tell me they would help with the situation. They did the bare minimum. Never get your glasses at For Eyes the manager is terrible. Mattie will break your glasses if she touches them. You never need to sign a waiver for competent people to adjust glasses. I would give zero stars if I could. I have been going here for awhile. I am a big fan of Dr. Hillman because he doesn't needlessly put drops in your eyes. He is very pleasant and knowledgeable. I wanted to get a pair of glasses too and the salespeople were content to let me browse at my pace or to help me when I wanted help. There was no pressure to buy, and the best part is that when I asked for opinions about how certain glasses looked, I got what I perceived as real opinions, not reinforcements of what they thought I wanted to hear. If you're looking for eyeglasses, you can go anywhere. So I used to love it here, until last week. I bought Kate Spade glasses here just about a year ago. To my fault I had them off & next to me on the floor while playing with my puppy, I sat on them & they broke. NOW, everything was still in tact, just the right arm was a bit bent/loose. I could've still worn them if it wasn't for the fact that they sat on my face crooked then so I just used my back up. I came into the store to see about just ordering the frame since i still have the lenses, or about a repair. The man that helped me, STRESSED that repairs are not possible because a spring is broke & they are impossible to repair. They could not get the frame in because "the style is a year old and on its way out the door" Here's the best part. The guy was messing with the arm so much HE BROKE IT OFF. I said to him "you just broke them why would you mess with them like that." His response? "Oh well they couldn't have been replaced anyway so it doesn't matter." I left. & will never be back. It gets better. A girl I work with, her brother in law owns an eye glass shop in Hellertown. He told me that he can get the frame in no problem. But for eyes couldn't? Even better, when I went to see him he was like okay so what do you want to do? Get new frames or repair these. But For Eyes said they couldn't be repaired?? He told me that a broken spring is one of the easiest things to fix, order a new arm put it on a bam it's done. Don't ever go to For Eyes. I give it one star because I cannot give them a zero. STAY AWAY! If you have to go there, avoid Dan like the plague! He is incompetent and apathetic. I went to get a pair of glasses before going on a long trip. He assured me that I would have the glasses on time. Two days before my trip, he told me over the phone that he had made a mistake when he ordered my glasses and that I could wait two extra weeks or get a refund. I proposed different ways to come up to a solution like shipping the glasses to my destination. He was dismissive and condescending with me and with my insurance agent. He gave me a lot of misleading information. After telling me that he could not do anything for me to fix HIS mistake, I went to the store to get my money back. As soon as I entered the store, he insisted on having me try the pair of glasses with the wrong lenses. I could not see anything and they were making me sick. He told me that it was because "it is 5pm and your eyes are tired, you will get used to them". The last straw is when he told me that he doesn't know how to refund my money and that I should leave my credit card with him so his manager could issue the refund the next day. I would not trust Dan with a piece of wood, much less with my credit card or anything For Eyes. read more

My mother wanted lenses put into her own frames. They lost my mothers frames in the cargo fiasco overseas. Its been well over a month. Finally she got her money back but had to go there in person and fight for it. $300 refund but now she needs to buy frames due to their errors. She lost out on that transaction. There's a part of me that's sad to write this review, because Dr. Hillman turned out to be a very thorough, down-to-earth guy who knew what he was talking about. He gave me an accurate prescription when I knew going in that I had a few uncommon vision issues. In fact, I'd give the experience an A+ if it were based on his part alone. It's what happens after you leave his appointment that's really, well, just awful. I shouldn't be surprised by these prior reviews where everyone else voices a similar complaint. I can't speak for the entire sales staff, as I worked with the same person who is mentioned more than once in these reviews. To call it a "hard sell" is like calling Harvey Weinstein "sorta flirty." It's the most uncomfortable pressure to be subjected to when you basically came in for an annual eye exam and a free pair of glasses. Now, regarding the "free pair" that my insurance affords me (which isn't really free, as I pay for it all year,) I knew that I might have to cough up an additional bit, because I needed progressive lenses. I found a reasonable frame and sat down with this salesman, who for 45 minutes insisted that I absolutely must have all of the bells and whistles with respect to my lenses. I just kept nodding, having no clue what any of these jargon words even meant, but he was well on his way to convincing me that I wouldn't be able to see without them. When all was said and done, he told me I owed nearly $300. I corrected him, stating that my insurance should cover at least the first 150 or so. Then he corrected ME and said the actual total was over $700. Fortunately, I didn't have that to spare. He offered no other alternatives and gave me baloney about how he was surprised I'd been walking around with no glasses all this time and joked about my being a danger to society. Good one, dude. I ultimately went online and ordered a pair that I love for less than a hundred bucks. You're a great ship, Dr. Hillman - as long as you cut that anchor. read more

I have been going to For Eyes (this location) since I was in first grade getting my first pair of glasses. The employees are incredibly knowledgeable about their products and know what frame styles work for your face. I also go for adjustments and have had a wonderful experience with that as well. The employees are super patient as well. I have had a problem with waiting a very long time for services, so that's why I took away one star. Update: Sherri, the ASM had my glasses delivered after finding they were originally mailed to the wrong address and compensated me with a second pair in my actual style I prefer. After all of this I got an 'apology' from Ed, to which my response was 'it would have been more sincere if you bothered to return a single one of my phonecalls while my glasses were missing. " I accepted his apology just to get the guy off the phone..but from now on I will personally avoid him knowing his insincerity and lack of ability to actually follow through considering it was his assistant manager and regional manager who actually fixed the problem as he tried to take the credit for the resolution. Gauche to the end. I have been going to For Eyes almost 20 years off and on- and I had to edit this review 2x to reflect the experience I have had by over a months worth of lies. My glasses broke, I live in Reading, Pa- and my backup pair is from 8 years ago.I was told I could send in my old glasses and mailed a replacement, exactly the same as before...but I was told over the phone they were not salvageable and I needed to choose new frames. The manager, Ed- already had the note that I was coming in because I tried to repair them (horribly) myself with superglue and said my old frames were no longer carried. So I had to pick out new frames. I have kept the same style of glasses since forever and I also suffer from agoraphobia so I don't get out very much at all- I have known the staff long enough that I felt confident in letting them help me pick out glasses however, in this case I was told my style was "outdated" and "This isn't 1998" since I prefer smallish, rectangular frames over anything showy. Ed picked out something large in neon blue which he indicated were more "feminine" and "better suited for my face", I wanted to be out of there as soon as possible so I just settled on black frames in a style I am not accustomed to because of my anxiety issues and my strong desire NOT to be there. I felt like I had to make an unnecessary compromise at the time. But I had no energy to really put up much fight. the manager Ed SAID he would be having my new replacement glasses sent to me free of shipping charge. And pressured my husband and I to leave a positive yelp review. He has earned every shitty review, and now I see that since a month and 4 days later, they have yet to ship and I am suffering migraines because of this. What else can I do? I am literally waiting on my correct prescription. There will be no relief for the headaches of both the literal sense as well as the situation entirely until I have a pair of glasses on my face that are correct for my current visual impairment. My only hobby is playing the viola and I cannot even read music without excruciating headaches. So. I am missing the replacement glasses I carefully spent hours picking out because they are no longer carried, was pressured into frames I did not feel entirely confident suit me, and currently own neither and I am typing this through 8 year old scratched lenses with deteriorated coating. I have used both this location and Rosemont for most of my life (so long as I have been in Pennsylvania) and I have remained willing to travel, despite my anxiety issues because I felt completely comfortable here- my family goes here, and the staff has been usually super helpful, kind, and have always been honest up until recently. My eyes are a -4.5 with astigmatism. Going without glasses is not an option for me. I thought my shopping was done on the day of my appointment with Dr. Hillman. I am on SSDI for this condition, it isn't like in the movies- I can go out, but only if someone is with me and to a place I trust, and then I have medicate my anxiety down to safe levels after doing so. I have anxiety about bothering people, after the first seven days I have called every seven days since to ask for a tracking number I have yet to receive. This is uncomfortable for me for me to write. On account of this experience, I am in the process speaking with higher management and the Better Business Bureau regarding the insanity of being lied to and manipulated and having my trust in the company damaged. In all fairness, all I seek for compensation is a second pair of glasses (perhaps, closer to the style that I have kept since 1998 GLADLY- that I trust the NORMAL staff who has known me 20 years to pick out.) as a back up so if I EVER find myself in this situation again where waiting several weeks for a replacement will not lead to the physical difficulties I am experiencing on account of being forced to rely on a pair of glasses 8 years old when I was informed that my replacement lenses would be shipped "Definitely within 2 weeks" I thought the insurance plan was a Godsend, it has been a nightmare. Absolutely disgusting service here. They are only out for the sale, not to gain a customer. The owner/manager/whatever he is, is the worst of them all. NEVER fall for his line of "oh let's try this new brand out for 6 months, then we'll order more" because guess what? Insurance only allows 1 visit a year so when those first 6 months are up, you're screwed for paying for new contacts. The guy who helped us, his name was Ed and i believe he was the store manager. My mom is in her 70's and he was just so rude and impatient with her. He was trying to get her to buy the most expensive ones. He was ignoring her and what she wanted. With her insurance she is limited to what she can get and he just didn't seem to care.. Bad Bad !!!! I had an eye exam with Dr Hillman, who was very thorough and quick. All I needed was a reading glass/bifocal(progressive)pair of glasses. Recently started a new medical job in which the print on specimans would be too small for me to accurately do my job. Hence my visit to ForEyes. Dr Hillman said my eyesight isnt that bad, but agreed I needed progressive glasses. Sat with guy with ponytail and he said he would order glasses but said if buy a 2nd pair Id save alot of money. So I took 2nd pair. When I went to pick up Sherry was there and she brought my glasses out and I tried on my preogressive glasses........They were reading glasses. Never would of worked because i need to walk on my job and be able to look down and these were BLURRY !!!!!! Completely blurry....I said this is wrong....she said she doesnt do the ordering. I said cant you look at the what the doctor order, she said no...was rude ....said she would get it fixed...one full week goes by i go back and NOTHING. Called today and said they were in.......cool, right? NOT !! Sherry did nothing !!!! So I walk in and my glasses (old One) sill there !!!! OMG I NEED THESES GLASSES ! Went to same ponytail guy who started my original order and he starts lecturing me on how i must of understood, saying NOBODY needs bifoculs.........you must of misunderstood...im like nooooooooo....he just kept talking down to me, probably hoping to chasses me aways ...NOT !!! I wish I read these reviews before going there. I was promised 1 to 2 weeks for my glasses, a month and several phone calls later, I received them without the transition lenses I ordered. Btw, one of the phone calls I made the guy told me he was busy with a customer and told me to call back later. I called and asked about the wrong lenses they gave me and first this guy told me to leave my glasses out in the sun for 15 minutes (huh???)Then after another call they told me they forgot to order transition lenses and told me I can pay more and get them. Next day I asked to speak to the manager and agreed to pay more to get them changed. Anyway, this is almost 3 weeks already and I still haven't heard anything from them. I've been going here for years and never had any problems until last night. I called at 5:30pm to order contacts and they said they were too busy to help me, they needed to call be back in 5 minutes. I never got a call back. I called them back at 5:50pm (the store closes at 6pm). Kim answers the phone, I said excuse me I would like to order contacts please. Her response: were actually closing the store now sorry. I said actually I called 20 minutes ago and no one ever call me back. We go threw the process and I give her my credit card number and she's like ok they'll be here in a couple days. I said excuse me how much was charged to my card? If you are a senior citizen stay away. Got glasses in March, told him I didn't want expensive frames because I was getting cataract surgery in a few months. Oh don't worry, you can have the new lenses put in these frames. When I went back after surgery I was told " we don't work with medicare or your insurance provider. My wife also needed glasses in March and asked to put the lenses in her frames that were a year old to save some money. I REALLY needed glasses so when I received a circular in the mail for inexpensive glasses from them I made an appointment. I arrived ten minutes early (I don't like to keep people waiting), but then I was kept waiting for 40 minutes with no explanation or apology. When I asked if there was a delay, the receptionist said, "she's running late". I left and called America Best and got an appointment immediately, saw the doc and got two pairs of glasses for the price of what I would have paid for one--turns out they really weren't that inexpensive-- at for eyes. Also, the exam at Americas Best was free with glasses purchase and the exam at for eyes is 75 or 125. The worst part of the experience at for eyes was that there were a lot of technicians or whatever running around, but few customers (wonder why!). read more

My recent experience was not a very good one. It took three tries to get my glasses right. I had the scratch protection for the lenses and they were scratched when I picked up the glasses but didn't notice until daytime. Took them back and the first clerk didn't believe me and took over a half hour until I got a little irritated and finally then said ok, we will send them back. Waited two weeks, glasses came back wrong again, no tinting, had to send back again waiting another two weeks. Through all of this Dan and Sherri were outstanding in getting my glasses correct. If not for them two I probably would not be a returning customer and I have been with For Eyes for over 30 years. The male manager is not very friendly or goes out of his way to help and wants to rush you through and not let the clerks do their job. read more

I am not one to make yelp reviews but I specifically made an account just so I could write about my experience with this store. Recently I moved to the area and was in search of a new place to come for contacts and so on. I was recommended Four Eyes by a friend who said she has always had an amazing and positive experience with the store manager, I believe she said his name was Ed. Well my experience was anything but amazing and positive. On Sunday i was "helped" by a lady named Sherry, I told her I was possibly looking for new glasses and she was very pushy when it came to only focusing my attention towards the expensive frames. I told her I couldn't afford that and tried to joke about it, which was followed by a total change in her demeanor and I felt very belittled when asking about cheaper alternatives. She was incredibly rude that I couldn't make up my mind which led to me just leaving the store completely. Needless to say I will NOT be returning there, and I am not sure how this lady thought any form of customer service was the right career path for her. read more

My mother came in to get glasses a few weeks ago and she dealt with a man named Ed, she thinks he's the manager of the store. I am extremely disgusted and more than upset by the way my mother who is 82 years old and is in an assisted living facility was treated by this man. He took advantage of her and preyed on the fact that she was elderly and sold her three pairs of glasses totaling over 1100.00. She does not need three pairs of glasses, she barely keeps track of the one pair she has. I called the store to speak with Ed last week and he was not only rude to me but said he only sold her what she wanted and she could return them if she was not happy. After speaking with my mother further about this she told me that he was very insistent (pushy) about what kind of glasses he felt she needed. Had I been with her that day we would have walked out of the store purchasing nothing. It's a disgrace that people like him make a living preying on the elderly. I was in the store last week and wanted to purchase just a basic pair of bifocals. I was approached by a man who introduced himself as "Ed" the store manager. I told him what I wanted and had a perscription from my eye doctor and just wanted to be left alone to look around. This was not the first time I have been in the store. He kept baggering me about the sales and promotions that were going on and again I told him I just wanted a basic pair of bifocals. He continued to be pushy and insisted that I get 2 pairs of glasses that I did not want. At that point he seemed to get very frustrated and mumbled something under his breathe and walked away from me. I have NEVER been so insulted and upset at the treatment I received by this man that is the store manager. After I gathered myself I left the store and will NEVER come back again.
